Teddi Mellencamp of RHOBH on her 80lb weight loss: ‘I have the tools’

Teddi Mellencamp, John Cougar Mellencamp’s daughter, is a lifestyle coach and has been a cast member of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills since 2017. She looks like so many other women on that show in that she’s white, blonde and thin. (No shade on any of those things, it’s just true.) Four years ago Teddi was 200 pounds at 5’3″ tall. Teddi explained on her website [via People] that she gained over 80 pounds doing IVF and “was thrilled to have my healthy baby boy but was left feeling broken inside” afterwards. She shared a story for her 38th birthday with a before and after photo detailing her fitness and weight loss journey. That photo is above and here’s the caption:

Today I turn 38-years-old. Photo on the left: my birthday during one of the many years I was truly struggling with taking care of myself when it came to health and fitness. I remember having to step on the scale at the doctor— and the tears when the doc said, “Teddi, you’re 5’3” and over 200lbs.” The me in that picture would do extreme fad diets, lose a bunch of weight and then gain it all back again. Picture on the right: Now, going into my 38th year with four years of consistent commitment to my lifestyle. Four years years I have been All IN— no yo-yo. And even when I do get a little “wild” (for instance, you may have seen me on #RHOBH in Provence 😂), I have the tools to reel it back in rather than letting myself unravel for week’s worth of choices that don’t work for me. I am grateful that at this age of 38 I now know that healthy living isn’t a diet— it’s a lifestyle. I am so blessed to be surrounded by an amazing team @goallinbyteddi who have also changed their lives and continue to help me stay committed to feeling my best. This support network is invaluable and one of the best gifts I could ask for. Thank you to my team of coaches, clients, family and friends who have gone All IN with me. 38 is gonna be the best year yet. #thebestisyettocome #allinbyteddi #healthy #committed

Page Six has photos of Teddi throughout her life if you’d like to see more. I also lost weight about five years ago and have kept it off. It’s not easy, but once you know what works for you, you can dial it back when you slip, like the example she gave of overindulging on vacation. That said, Quimby wrote something in her Oprah post today that resonated with me. She talked about how everyone is different and that we should all strive to be our own version of where we feel the best. Teddi is selling her services with this personal transformation story and I’m not faulting her for that. There’s also something to be said about loving yourself where you are and not making it contingent on a specific result, even as you’re working towards that goal.

Teddi was also open about her plastic surgery. People details two responses she made on the post to questions. Someone asked “You look amazing your nose is smaller did u have surgery?” and she said “Not on my nose. I did on my tata’s [sic].” When another person asked if she needed a lift she wrote “mine didn’t need a lift, they deflated after breast feeding and weight loss so they added 210 cc implants.” It’s nice that she wasn’t defensive at all and just clearly stated what she did. Some of the Real Housewives are totally honest about their plastic surgery and injectables, which is appreciated.

Here’s Teddi’s ad for her Peloton class. I got my spin bike from Play it Again sports for less than $200 and I do free spin classes on YouTube. There are cheaper ways to do so many things that seem out of reach.

Ooooo, tell us more about your spin bike! That’s a smokin’ deal.

It’s a Schwinn that used to be in a gym. I found it through Craig’s List at a local PIAS. You can also look on Craig’s List for spin bikes ooh and there’s one on Amazon that’s new and around $359 (it used to be cheaper) https://amzn.to/2LKev8u I talked about my spin bike and the classes I like here: http://ow.ly/27m130p4pZ6

I have a Schwinn elliptical that I bought through Amazon and I’ve had it for more than 5 yrs. It was recommended by a coworker and he was right, they are great machines and they are not as expensive as other brands. I think it’s time for me to start using it more often, I stopped doing it so I could concentrate on other types of exercises but I’m not seeing the results. I bought because before I got pregnant, I would get on that and stay fit. After pregnancy, I haven’t found anything that has worked for me…I’ll just keep trying I guess

I love the way she blames the weight gain on IVF when she’s been overweight since she was a teenage according to the People photos. That said, she should be proud of herself.

    • Escondista says:

Have you ever taken steroids or hormones?
It’s not the same as being an “overweight teenager.” It is NOT eating some extra Doritos. Externally messing with your body’s hormonal and chemical balance is a grueling, depressing, debilitating process.

      • pottymouth pup says:

I think you missed the point of pollyv’s comment – she wasn’t saying doing IVF doesn’t impact you she was commenting that Teddi is making it sound as though she suddenly became heavy due to IVF when she was a heavy teen and supposedly had a “weight problem” well prior to the IVF. (she’s also, previously, made comments about having been overweight as a teen and when she first moved to LA).

      • Spicecake38 says:

Seriously asking-HOW overweight was She as a teen, like did she have a weight problem that got much worse with aging and IVF.I have been on and off of various doses of prednisone much of my life and the weight fluctuations can be very difficult to deal with, and sometimes going back off steroids the weight falls off easily and other times it comes off at a snails pace.
At least she acknowledges that she has the resources which make it easier for her to get in shape and stay that way,no, money can’t buy a thin body or a faster metabolism, but having the best at your disposal doesn’t hurt, and kudos to you@ CB And so many others who lose weight, get healthy and do it with lots of work and a smaller wallet 👏👏👏

    • Dani says:

This is mean. Does it matter what made her over weight? Maybe she was comfortable with the way she was before starting IVF – and the weight gain from that was what made her dislike the way she looked?

  3. Kimmy says:

I never thought of looking there for spin bikes! Great idea. I would love a peloton, but they are so expensive!!

    • insertpunhere says:

They are expensive, but you can finance them at 0%, and I have to say it’s the best investment I’ve ever made in myself. I’ve never been a regular exerciser and hate exercise with a passion, but I like getting on the peloton. Something about it just sparks joy.

Having said that, I realize it’s out of reach for many many people (I bought mine with a combination of financing and my tax refund because I am a social worker; we make teachers look well paid), but I always like to tell people how much I love it because I think it has a reputation for being this unattainable thing for only the superwealthy. If you’re paying for a gym membership for your family, the peloton costs about that much each month, and it is more than worth it if you can swing it. Plus, they resale well, and their return policy is decent, so if you hate it, you can either sell it or return it (depending on when you decide).

  4. Harryg says:

Let me just say that I can’t stand those stupid Peloton ads. They are like “you’ll get an orgasm riding this bike!” And maybe some people do.

  5. Anon33 says:

Legit thought that was Christina from Flip or Flop.

  6. Lucky says:

If you look at her wedding pictures from 8 years ago, she’s pretty thin. I think she has always gone up & down with her weight. That being said, 2 of my sisters did IVF and both gained a lot of weight during the process.

  7. Erinn says:

Lol, this reminded me that I’ve only used my machine to turn my mountain bike into a stationary bike like.. once. I need to order some cheap slick tires so I don’t destroy mine – which is probably why I forgot all about it.

  8. SJR says:

When I saw her name, I assumed she was an Ex-Wife of John Mellencamp.
I must be in denial about my own aging since my first thought was “What? John Mellencamp has a daughter who is 38? What?”
Plus, all Johns wives look the same to me.

Teddi is very pretty. Good for anybody who is trying to be more healthy. Zero judgement.

  9. ChillyWilly says:

I’m happy she loves how she looks and feels now because that is what truly matters but I think she is prettier in the before photo. She should go back to brunette.

  10. sammiches says:

As a RHOBH stan, I have to say that Teddi Mellencamp is kind of an ahole.

Can’t stop the ravages of time.

    — Well said. I’m a big time foodie and can’t help but have the 1.5 sized servings rather than a 0.8 or 1 sized serving. So for most of my life I’ve been 3 to 10kgs over the normal weight range, often losing the weight only to put it back on. The thing is, as much as I love food, I like feeling fit and looking good in outfits and shopping without worrying about clothing that’s flattering. Also I didn’t like the sluggishness that comes with eating three meals a day every day (probably something to do with having a slower metab) and used to drink copious amounts of coffee and green tea to speed up my metab). So motivation was key to me eventually finding out intermittent fasting is totally my thing (rather than working out like crazy, since if I exercise a lot I end up eating a lot) for staying in the health weight/BMI range. I fast moderately most days, enjoy my 1.5 sized meals, and 20 minutes of brisk walking a day is my only form of exercise.

Supposedly the “accountability program” that she sells is scary though. Like she’ll expect her clients to live off less than 500 calories a day.
