The Duchess of Cambridge did a “rewear” for the Wimbledon Women’s Final, yet she wore a new bespoke look for the Men’s final. Discuss! I have no idea what those choices mean, but I think she probably just wanted to wear her pretty blue dress for her “date” with her husband. Prince William and Kate went to Sunday’s men’s final together – they arrived early so that they could do a lot of the VIP-patronage stuff, like meet with ballkids and various tennis legends and All-England Club members. Then they sat front-row in the Royal Box, like always. I feel like this is the new annual thing for Kate: the women’s championship Saturday with the Duchess of Sussex, and the men’s championship Sunday with William. It was also great for Kate because she and her family are such huge Roger Federer fans, although Kate was giving Mirka Federer a run for her money by looking panicked and aghast at the way Federer played some crucial points.
Kate wore an Emilia Wickstead dress for Sunday’s men’s final. In some photos, it seemed to have a violet hue, but I think it’s just a pale blue. The fabric has an interesting texture too, and while I would never wear a dress with that shoulder detailing – I find it fussy – it looks really nice on Kate. Look – no buttons, no doily lace, and no puffy sleeves or weird boob darts. The dress is a success in my book! And Kate looks lovely. William on the other hand…oh, well, at least they “coordinated.”
Even though her fave (Federer) lost in a five-set epic (in which he had and lost match points, YIKES), Kate still went down to the court with the Duke of Kent to do the trophy presentation. I think they’re setting her up to do that from now on, which makes me wonder… why didn’t she do that for the women’s championship match too? Hm.

Was a good look for her and yeah I wondered why she only gave the mens trophy and not the women’s as well – if she’s going to give out the trophies she can’t pick and choose which ones she wants to do. Guess they need to counter the press the Beyonce photo op got, esp as the Fail had a piece about how George and Char went to a local fair with the Middleton parents. Obvious PR!!!
About the tennis, I agree with Boris Becker people need to recognise how great Djokovic is. People are too focused on Federer to notice it.
I am the biggest federer fan. and he is out of this world. just wow. and djokovic is too. they are both the greatest. that match was the best I’ve ever seen.
This match was second only to the Federer Nadal match back in 2008 which was the most epic Wimbledon final ever. I wanted Federer to win, but Djokovic really earned it. He’s at 16 slams now, two behind Nadal, so really he is up there with Nadal and Federer at this point.
She only gave out the men’s trophy because that was all she was invited to do. The Duke of Kent, who usually presents the trophies, is the President of the All England Tennis Club and this year is the 50th Anniversary of his Presidency so it is not strange that he wanted to mark the event by presenting one of the trophies.
Has anyone heard There is a rumour after the polo event William disappeared from PO for several hours? They couldn’t find him, didn’t know where he was and he was not with the family. It was said to be in a blind too, but I haven’t been able to find it.
Sounds like a silly rumor. I highly doubt the future King of England can just get lost at a whim.
Diana use to sneak out , on her own ,so it does happen with royals.
Was there a photo of William leaving the polo event? I’m just asking out of curiosity? I haven’t looked at the photos from the event, just wondered.
Rose who? Lol
For the love of God stop. If you believe the blinds, believe all blinds, not just the ones that support a stan narrative.
This is probably urban legend, but years ago I read something that said that there had been some kind of locator chip implanted in him so that they would never lose him. Don’t laugh!
Are you trying to start rumours?
@Chaine that does make me laugh, but I doubt its true.
I also doubt that he just disappeared from his RPOs for a period of time. I know they can slip away, its not impossible, I just don’t think it happened after the polo match.
@Enn
Yes, this 1000%.
I’m going to say this is totally crazy. You know why, if William was to go somewhere to cheat on his wife as implied the RPO wouldn’t give a crap. They’d take him there and hide any evidence of his visit as best as they could. Obviously, Charles did it. Supposedly, Phillip did it. We know Andrew has done a lot of less than respectable things. Just saying it doesn’t make sense.
It wasn’t Prince William. It was Harry who went missing after the polo match.
Weirdly enough, I saw that same rumor but it was about Harry. FWIW, there are other rumors floating around that both Will and Kate were holding and interacting with Archie in the big tent after the match and there are photos of it that won’t be released because it was after the photographers’ assigned shooting timeframe.
An implanted locator chip?! That is too funny!
@Lexa….l can well believe that. William would not allowed himself to be publicly interacting with Meghan or Archie in a happy fun way because he hates most of them time giving the press the type of pictures they would leap on. This is the reason why he refuses to participate in ‘friendly’ Meghan pictures. I think William hated the press more than Harry but Harry has now been totally apalled by the treatment of his wife.
However, the true extent of whether William really is guilty of throwing the Sussexes under the bus has yet to be. fully revealed.
People don’t like how Djokovic pretends to be injured, makes a show out of it and then starts playing amazingly well. It’s a strategy of his that has won him many detractors. And also, it seems to me that Nadal fans are the ones who don’t like him.
His fellow players don’t even like him. Have a listen to what more of the loud mouthed players have to say.
I cannot stand Djokovic and for that reason l just don’t want to talk about what happened on Sunday 😞.
Yesterday was an epic sports day for Great Britain.
We won the Cricket World Cup for the first time after the best ever match played.
Lewis Hamilton won the British Grandprix for a record breaking 6th time.
And then an brilliant match at Wimbledon.
I have to applaud Kate after handing the cup even when her favourite lost.
Odd sentiment to applaud someone for doing their job on the most basic level.
Indeed but the bar is so low for Kate that people feel the need to pat her on the head when she does something so basic. What was she supposed to do – refuse to hand it over because Federer didn’t win.
Other forums are praising her for this and saying William was proud that she gave out a trophy. It’s beyond ridiculous the way this adult woman has been infantilized.
She does it so rarely that people are just grateful she showed up at all.
I mean, the “Will is so proud” comments are not more OTT than other fans repeating how Harry looks proud of Meghan every time they appear together, even if she’s not really doing anything to “be proud of”. And to be honest, I kind of liked how William was always two steps behind her, giving her the “spotlight”. He did the same at the RHS show, and it’s in contrast with how some people like to describe him.
Hahahaha an interesting take on the cricket world cup! Winning by arbitrary decision (rather than actual runs) is no great win
Or Lewis Hamilton when the safety car was brought on to screw Bottas out of his rightful place in front.
I am Team Novak all the way but it truly was unfortunate that anyone had to lose. They both played so well & had to be exhausted by the time Championship Point finally came around. Truly epic.
Don’t be sore losers, we deserved the win and we won fair and square.
The rules were set and agreed by all countries before the championship started.
As for Lewis, anything can happen in F1 and it’s up to the team and their tactics.
F1 has helped Lewis (who I like but not my favorite as he is too much a diva) all year long. The LeClerc Verstappen rivalry is the only thing that has kept F1 interesting this season
I don’t know anything about Cricket and I don’t follow tennis, but the BP Sunday was AMAZING full stop. Lewis was going after Bottas from the get go and if there hadn’t been a safety car, I think he would have passed him to win anyways. There was so much action on the track, everyone at Silverstone should be proud of the show that was put on.
And Prince Andrew was at the cricket match to congratulate the winner. What a great day for British sport!
If William and Harry are like the 30-something men I know, they would 100% have preferred to be at the cricket to either the Wimbledon final or the Lion King premiere. It was Andrew because everyone else had engagements and that’s the Queen’s role, and the Queen can’t really sit through an 8+ hour cricket match.
that dress was stunning. and she looked so happy and lively. I like kate a lot. she’s my favorite royal for sure.
Kate looks painfully thin. The dress fit was bad.
…the dress fits perfectly, unlike Saturday’s green monstrosity.
really odd fit around the top arms, also Kate is getting painfully thin lately. I don’t get why people think that looks healthy, to me she looks almost frail.
I thought the fit was perfect actually.
Do you think she’s painfully thin?
She looked good in this blue dress, but she looked very thin in the green one from the day before.
I don’t know any frail people with legs muscles like Kate’s.
Megan
Tons of frail people with some muscle can be unhealthy. For years I restricted my diet to an unhealthy state, but worked out daily to maintain that bulk and ton. But it was all I had. It can be characterized as an eating disorder. And basing all the leaks and news and promotions from Kate’s end about diets and smoothies and insane workouts, but still looking so thin with no true bulk… it wouldn’t be a stretch to make that assumption.
Because someone doesn’t look it doesn’t mean they aren’t.
And to be fair Kate has looked healthier lately. Besides pregnancy weight where she looked her best.
+1, this is a great look, she looks lovely.
I really liked this dress yesterday when I first saw it — but I just saw a comment describing the top as “boob curtains” and now I can’t unsee it!
Really liked the dress, it was better than the one she wore on Saturday.
A tied-dyed T-shirt dress from Target would be than the green D&G dress she wore on Saturday.
😀
It’s a win. Very nice.
I love her, no shade from me. She seems really content and finally more comfortable with her role, and I LOVE the fact she was more important than William yesterday, I could almost feel he is proud of her.
BUT I agree, seems unfair she wasn’t giving out the women trophy! Hope she does it next year.
Also, did you realize how many Croatians are working in the finalists’ teams? Ivanisevic, Ljubicic 🙂 We rock
She’s been patron for a few years and this is the first time she’s presented, right? I wonder if this is a slow handover of duties from the DoK?
It is the DOK’s 50th Anniversary year as president so I expect he wanted to mark it by presenting a trophy.
@lunde – He presents both trophies EVERY YEAR, you even say so upthread so your comments makes no sense. But carry on splitting hairs for Kate. Why would he want to celebrate by only handing out ONE trophy?!?!?! Maybe because Kate wanted to hand out the trophy for the match that normally gets the most media attention.
@Digital Unicorn,
Can you imagine the amount of cattiness there would be if she presented the ladies trophy? I would be insane. It would range from “Oh look, Kate’s trying to be BFF’s with Serena now, she’s sooo obvious” to “Look at that B—- Kate gleefully handing over the winner’s trophy to Serena’s victor, she’s thrilled Serena lost because she hates Meghan!!” Major eye roll.
I was probably better that she didn’t.
*It instead of “I” on two occasions. UGH.
Kate looks lovely. I like how she and her husband coordinated their look.
This dress is almost perfect on her, but again what is it with the weird detailing around the breasts. This seems to be a British royal trend lately, weird bust details on dresses. At least this time its not directly on them, like the darts, but around them. It does make her look a bit more endowed, but it’s still a strange design. The color is great though. Yes I do think Kate is being groomed for the Wimbledon award presentation, as I believe the other royal who has been doing this is pretty old. Yes it is odd she didn’t do the women’s or the doubles, but who knows why. This is a pretty cool gig though.
Now I want to say something nice about William. A lot of people don’t like light colored dress jackets on men, but I thought he looked really good here. He does match, and it fits, plus no weird shoes like Harry. This was a good styling for both of them, and they seem really into it. I liked it.
William was the first thing I noticed in that picture. I was wondering why he was looking so good here. It has to be the suit.
Loved the dress and the shoes. What a match, wow, just wow…you hated to see anyone lose that one.
Another boring dress
The shoes are even more boring. I can take the dress but I would burn the shoes!
Those shoes, just why??
Ha they’re ALDO. She’s been to the mall.
The dress was OK. I’m tired of applauding Kate of the most basic because the bar is set so damn low.
And PW is not looking so hot. What happened to the dashing good looking 20 year old prince that made everyone swoon???? Maybe his inside is seeping to the outside……..
ALL of the royals do the bare minimum. Seems odd to just pinpoint Kate. The Sussex were at a movie premiere, so I find both couples to be pretty much level with each other.
I really think it was a mistake for him not to have saved his hair.
“…the bar is set so damn low.”
For all royals, yes.
yeah… if only we could all bring our looks from when we were 20 years old into our 30’s.
His other option woud’ve been to have hair transplants… rest assured he would’ve been laughed at for that as well.
He looks fine.
I think a lot of women have trouble with baldness. It does age you, but I’m getting used to it on William. I thought he looked good. He’s in good shape too. One thing about the two of them. They are one tall couple.
I think many bald men are very attractive. Will seems to be aging like bad cheese and not like a fine wine. Genetics suck.
I don’t think it’s his baldness per se that’s the problem…lots of bald men are sexy. His head shape just isn’t the best for going bald. It’s kind of long or egg shaped or something. I will say he’s tall and wears clothes well, so he has that going for him. His personality is a whole other thing.
It’s b.s. That other royals don’t work. William and Kate have been skating by on publicity for ages.
The other Senior royals and also Sophie, Edward, have numbers into several hundreds of outings a year, real outings.
Kate and William are coddled.
I can’t wait to see how they operate once the Queen is gone, not many excuses can be made then, William and Kate will be expected to work on the level of Prince of Wales, but will they? I doubt it.
Williams numbers dropped by 20% this year , he is working less. A person did a report on it but the press chose to ignore the bad Cambridge news , as usual
William has horticultural pursuits that take up his time.
LOL
I like the colour and the shape, weird boob detailing aside. And if she’s being geared up to take over, it’s an engagement we know she’ll definitely show up for and do with a smile, as patronising as it sounds to say that.
It’s odd though. I haven’t seen a single article about Kate visibly supoorting Roger rather than being 100% neutral. Maybe some of the tabloids’ websites are having technical issues and they’re just not up yet?
The detail at the bust is so weird. Like cute at shoulder but why bring it down to bust. Design flaw.
At least the shoes are more interesting than the typical pumps Kate wears 99% of the time…..I wish we had a side view. That said, I think the nude shade doesn’t go well with the light blue dress. Light blue shoes would look better. The dress was a good choice.
There’s at least one side view on IG, they’re a block heel from Aldo.
As I said yesterday, I almost really like the dress. It seems the fit in the bodice is a little off though or something, I’m not sure. And she could have worn some really pretty shoes to liven up the whole outfit. Oh well. No buttons, no lace, no flounces – overall a nice choice for Kate.
I love pleated detail, always have since I was young. I would 100% wear that dress if I could afford it.
I’m guessing the Duke of Kent had his reasons for the presentation of the trophies? I don’t know how that works with transitioning.
I don’t mind the dress. How much did it cost? Bespoke = a lot.
Not a fan of this look. I like the color on her, but I think the dress design would have been better in silk charmeuse, something with more drape so it doesn’t look so heavy in the bodice. I think that shoulder design also accentuates her poor posture. The shoes don’t really go with the dress, they’d look better with some cropped trousers.
I think it would drive me crazy to have such a large wardrobe of ill-fitting clothing. If I were in her shoes (and they wouldn’t be various shades of BEIGE), I wouldn’t be showcasing a new dress or coat dress every time I stepped out to do my job. I think it’s more interesting to mix and match and rewear things in a different way. Same thing goes for some of these fashion bloggers out there, the sheer volume of clothing would bother me.
I couldn’t agree more. She needs a stylist. This dress looks great if you look at it from far away and squint. The color’s great, but all that weird draping around the bodice is just too much. She has some nice dresses that she could wear again with the right accessories.
The dress is simple, but pretty. The match was almost five hours, does this count as work?
i should hope not!
But i think the work behind the scenes does. Meetings/lunches etc etc
Yes, I’m pretty sure it counts as work since she’s the patron. That was kind of the running joke when she got named patron.
I’m asking this seriously, what do you guys think is work for all the royals? People love Harry and Meghan but going to events and doing things like this is really all they do too. You want to see a working royal, Prince Albert, also part American before he became the head of Monaco, was at Wimbledon the other day. What should the British royals do instead though? I’m just a bit confused.
As Americans we seem to have this love/hate relationship with the British royalty, and we are definitely excited by the American addition. We fawn all over them, and then we realize hey we fought a war against these guys, and the monarchy does seem to be a colossal waste of money. I get it somewhat we love the princess dream, the opulent lifestyle, the cute kids, and then we hate the fact they are government sanctioned rich people.
Attending Charles’ birthday garden party was counted as “work” for M&H,like concerts,Cirque du Soleil shows, and I suppose the recent baseball game. So yes,I don’t get the snark if Kate attenting Wimbledon as patron and doing the meet and greet stuff is counted as work.
What Charles, Anne and Sophie do is work. They go to all areas of the country and meet ordinary people. They go out in crappy weather. They make jokes. They attend extremely boring events. They make dull but worthy speeches. And at the end of the day, the people they have met feel special.
i don’t understand why people automatically assume she CHOSE to give the mens trophy? There’s a VP (DoK) that this responsibility falls to and wouldn’t it be HIS decision to choose that she give the trophy?
That’s my thought, too. I was actually wondering if he just wasn’t feeling up to it after being in the sun for so long. The awards look heavy to me, and he’s been looking pretty frail the last few months.
I’m happy for those who got the chance to go, those tickets paid for themselves! I was the only one at home who wanted Djokovic to win, but that last set… I just wanted the match to be over, it didn’t matter who won.
As for Kate, what makes this dress bespoke? The size?
To me it looked as if she wanted to say a few words to Nole and he was all like “ok, just let the trophy go!”
I think this was a win for Kate. I even like the shoes and her hair looks lovely. Well done.
She gave out a trophy because she wanted to touch a sweaty Roger Federer.
that actually sounds gross.
Sounds good to me. I would have neglected to give the winner the trophy because I would have been too engrossed in comforting Roger.
All the Middleton’s, especially Ma Middleton are in love with Roger Federer. The Cambridge children have had play dates with the Federer children.
Poor Kate must have experienced the same agony as Meghan did over Serena’s lost.
She’s so pretty. But why the purple tuxedo bow? The shoes were not good sorry.
The bow is Wimbledon colors, it’s to signal
She’s a patron, the guys wear ties in the same colors see: Stan Smith (who also gifted her signed shoes for prince Louis so cute)
Ahh. Thanks.
Still not a fan of shoes. Thumbs down.
Like everything about the dress but the detailing around the bust line. The fabric is pretty, very summery. The front of the bodice should have been smoother, it looks bunchy. Other than than that she looks nice.
I watched the match, and granted during the cutaways to Kate and Wills, they mainly showed Kate enjoying and nervous about the match–but I was struck by the lack of interaction between she and PW–he wasn’t smiling, they didn’t laugh–she seemed so much more alive when she was with Meghan and Pippa. I felt bad for them, I’d hate to sit next to my husband for five hours and not been more engaged, let alone touch each other.
Well, there are plenty of photos of them interacting and leaning close to one another. Most of the TV camera shots showed them focused on the game, and any hand holding and most touching would be unseen beneath the partition in front of them.
https://mobile.twitter.com/PackhamGown/status/1150440232099229697
Yet another overpriced dress. However this one was nice. The sleeves could have been better but otherwise it was lovely and she looked great. William looked fine too.
The dress is as ordinary as the person wearing it.
Where are the fit experts who examined every inch of the Duchess of Sussex’ dress. Their exacting standards seem to plummet when it’s someone else.
That isn’t even close to true. See the posts on the green dress she wore to Wimbledon with Meghan—there was a ton of negative commentary on the fit.
But of course I have to add….her posture. So bad.
Will is RIDIC.
Not in love with the dress. The top is awkward at some angles.
I think she looked ridiculous. Not that there’s anything wrong with the dress per se, but expecting women to wear flowing skirts and high heels to outdoor sporting events is ridiculous. Can’t we live in a modern world where women are allowed to be practical, and not forced into impractical, decorative dressing all the time, including outdoor sports arenas?
That’s our culture in the UK for certain sports events during the summer. I wore a dress (not heels, because I hate them) to Wimbledon, Henley (rowing), Lord’s (cricket) and Ascot (horse racing). Sometimes you have to wear a hat. This is not the case for all sports, if you turned up at Arsenal or Chelsea in a flowing skirt and heels you would look very out of place. But it’s not a royal thing, it’s an England in the summer thing.
Yeeeesh travel more. Because she isn’t wearing sweats and a sports bra doesn’t equal ridiculous. Dress codes for events apply to both men and women.
I love flexing my wardrobe when I am able to travel to Europe or NY. Sadly my hats are laughable in Colorado.
Kate looks great. I don’t know why CB takes issue with William; I think he looks good, too. But oy, the body language between them — not so good, especially when compared to that of Harry and Meghan at The Lion King premiere.
Well, ICONOCLAST… don’t believe your lying eyes. They are going to be King and queen Consort and are very much in love. And that’s the end of that!
More in love than anybody else on earth. ESPECIALLY Harry and Meghan!!!
Rose, who???
