My mom has been in the hospital for the past week, so I totally forgot that the Emmy nominations were coming out on Tuesday. It’s weird too, because I was really looking forward to seeing how many nominations Game of Thrones’ final season would get in the end. As it turns out, A LOT. The Television Academy was more than happy to give sweeping nominations to GoT actors across the board, in supporting and lead categories. As for the rest… a lot of expected noms, although someone has got to explain how the bonkers fourth season of Billions didn’t get any acting nominations, and it’s missing from the Best Drama shortlist too! BOO! You can see the full list of nominations here. The biggest categories:

I am SO happy for Alfie Allen, I don’t even have words. Apparently, HBO didn’t even put any money or thought behind getting Alfie or Gwendoline Christie nominated, so they put themselves up for nominations and they got them! I would love it if Alfie won, wouldn’t you? He was one of the best actors on the show. Everyone’s jazzed about the Fosse/Verdon nominations, as they should be because Sam Rockwell & Michelle Williams killed it in those roles. And of course, people are excited for Amy Adams, although ten bucks says she loses. Who are your faves?!?
Notable snubs: Julia Roberts didn’t get nominated for Homecoming (lol), Richard Madden didn’t get anything for Bodyguard (boo), and the Emmys decided not to give the primary cast members of The Big Bang Theory any acting nominations for their final season (lol).

I saw on her Instagram that Carice van Houten is also nominated for Game of Thrones, but I can’t figure out in which category?
She got nominated as Guest Actress in a drama series!
I feel like I’m missing out on Fleabag and Russian Doll. I’ll try to catch up this weekend.
Fleabag is one of the best shows ever created. It’s about dealing with grief. Russian Doll was very good, but from the list I think Fleabag is brilliant. The second season was even better than season 1 (and it was amazing).
Fleabag is very good!
Fleabag is really good, I just binged it. I started Russian Doll but was busy and didn’t get far, and want to go back and try again.
Fleabag is excellent and fun. There are only 2 seasons (boo) worth it.
Fleabag is amazing. So obsessed with it.
probably guest star in a drama.
I’m so happy for Phoebe Waller-Bridge! Fleabag is just SO good. Also happy Olivia Coleman was recognized. A little bummed hot priest Andrew Scott didn’t get a nom.
Fleabag is soooo good, Andrew Scott was amazing as the hot priest. You should watch his interview with Graham Norton where it gets brought up – he gets embarrassed.
Ok, I have got to watch this, it’s been on my list for a while now. Thanks!
“Hot Priest” sounds sooooo wrong, yet its pretty accurate. LOL. Fleabag is great.
I thoroughly enjoyed Fleabag. Phoebe is brilliant and hot priest was… hot.
I just binged on both seasons, it’s excellent.
Best show. Best show. Best show.
And yet, Fiona Shaw DID get nominated? I love her, but her role was miniscule. She was fine in it, but not stunning.
Andrew Scott deserves every award ever created for everything he’s ever done. He’s just fantastic.
I saw him in a play a few days ago, playing a narcissistic bisexual actor. He’s phenomenal on stage!
Oh, I’d love to see him in person! I really think he’s one of those rare actors who can deliver lines and make them sound like they are thoughts that just occurred to him. I’ve gone down the rabbit hole recently and have been watching a variety of interviews with him talking about acting. I appreciate how thoughtful he is about his craft.
Alfie Allen should win. Or Nikolaj. Heck Peter Dinklage was really good too; it wasn’t his fault they gave him so many bad lines lol.
Christie should also def win IMO, and for the actresses….I think Maisie. Lena should win overall for her work in the series, but as we have said, she spent a lot of time just smirking this season.
Also, GOT is the only series nominated that I’ve seen, so that’s why my votes are all for those people, hahahaha.
Wait, sorry, my comment doesn’t make sense. I forgot that Christie and Lena et al were in the same category. So I think Christie should win that category.
Lena had the best writing to work with in the early seasons. Some of her acting in prior seasons was so, so superb and it’s a shame she might never get an Emmy for the show.
Nikolaj totally!
Alfie is very underrated, he is a good actor who deserves recognition and I hope he wins. Don’t think Kit will win, he wasn’t great in the final season, Emilia really pulled it out of the bag so I’d like see her get a win.
Alfie’s nom is an amazing clap back at Lily Allen, who has an entire song about what a deadbeat stoner brother he was.
Huh. Never put together that they are related lol.
LOL, but to be fair he was like 19 or 20 at the time the song came out, so I’m sure he was a bit of a dick back then, because quite frankly most late teens early twenties kids are at least a LITTLE bit dickish. Especially where they’re so close in age, I’m sure they mutually annoyed the crap out of each other.
TBH I think he was and didn’t he pretty much admit to it as well? He’s def the more down to earth one of the Allen siblings. Lily grates, he comes across quite humble and a nice guy.
But that song was tongue in cheek and I think they’re pretty close actually. She was very happy for him yesterday on Social Media.
Game of Thrones should have been nominated for Best Comedy.
Kit Harrington getting a best actor nod despite having only two lines in the entire season “she’s my queen” and “I don’t want it”. The Emmys have truly become a joke!
Well, similarly Lena Heady (whom I love) is getting a nom for basically staring out of a window with a glass of wine this season.
Ha! I laughed out loud, so true!
I am angry on Gwendoline’s behalf. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was about the best season 8 got. Can’t believe they didn’t put money behind her.
I have to say: The Emmy’s did a great job this year with their nominations. When They See Us, Fleabag, Pose, etc. I am not mad at any of these noms.
While I think that the final season of GOT was a steaming pile of horse shit, it was not because of anything other than the writing. The actors did what they were told to do. some elevated it and then there is Kit.
Big Congrats to Emilia, Ramin, Michelle, the VX crew, Lena, Alfie (finally), Gwen (finally) basically everyone but D&D. I cannot believe they actually got in for writing that finale.
Also big congrats to Phoebe. Fleabag is a wonderful show and I am so happy for all the success she and her show is getting.
Congrats to Sandra Oh as well. Glad she is finally getting the respect she deserves.
also, it would have been nice if Jacob had submitted for supporting actor. I don’t think he really cares about awards but he actually did a really good job as well.
I’m pleased with the nominations too, I feel like they branched out and looked at some other stuff, rather than just the usual, some great quality shows got recognized.
I’ll say that while I know he’s problematic, I think Matt Damon should win for Guest Actor in a comedy series. His portrayal as Brett Kavanaugh was the only positive out of that horror show of a confirmation.
I totally agree – Matt’s Kavanaugh brought the joy – couldn’t have laughed any harder!
Agreed. That was the most memorable skit of the season!
I WROTE IT MYSELF!!!!!!!
Lol at Big Bang Theory being snubbed. Almost makes up for the fact that Game of Thrones got writing nominations which D&D definitely don’t deserve. I’m happy for Alfie! Hope he wins.
Fingers crossed D&D don’t win an Emmy for writing. The rest of the GOT noms are okay…just don’t reward those two clowns for their bad writing.
I actually laughed out loud at that part of the article. I mean, in a fair world, I don’t think any of the main cast should be up for any kind of award outside of it being a very successful show. Jim Parson’s is pretty great, but he’s wasted on a show like BBT.
Jim Parsons was totally wasted on BBT. The show had so much potential because there were a lot of great actors in it but the cheese and bad writing is so freaking awful. I’m cringing right now just thinking about it.
The first 4 or so seasons of BBT were good, some clever writing and actual laughs. Seasons 5 and 6 were still watchable. My pet theory was that once significant others became a substantial part of the show, they moved the writers over from Two and a Half Men, and we got the sophomoric tripe that BBT became. Never checked out if this was actually true though, just stopped watching.
I loved BBT and Jim was the best part of the show. For me BBT lost its spark when they started pairing off the cast, too many characters and plots.
Bahahah such an obnoxiously bad show should never even be uttered in the same sentence as awards unless they’re Razzies (is that right?).
Even thought the final season of Orphan Black wasn’t that great, I still think Tatana Maslany should have been nominated.
Tat should have a million Emmys by now.
Happy to see Fosse/Verdon, Pose, and When they see us get some recognition.
I did excited to see what Bill Porter wears to the Emmys!
Me too! I love Billy Porter and the whole cast of Pose more than anything. I really hope he wins–he is excellent in that show.
Alfie and Gwen have deserved those nominations ever since their first appearances on the show. I’d love to see them win. Same goes for Maisie.
Gwen totally deserves it!
I am soo happy for Alfie Allen! I was always outraged that his amazing work in GOT was never recognized.
I also always thought Lena should win because she’s been amazing and many of her scenes I’m throughly impressive with, but unfortunately she had only like 5 lines in this season. Out of the supporting, and only considering the last season, I think Gwendoline should win.
I don’t understand why some shows don’t promote amazing performers sometimes. My award show annoyance is the fact that John Noble never even got nominated for Fringe just because the show was small/very sci-fi. He made me laugh and cry like no one!! Anna Torv was also really good in that, hell, that whole cast.
I am rooting for Chernobyl. The awards attract attention and it is a very important story (fictionalised but still) that needs to be seem as widely as possible.
I was sick for a few days a couple weeks back and so I watched the 3 season of True Detective. Man, I hope they let the series die a slow and silent death and don’t go for another attempt to revive the success of the first season.
Thrilled with the comedy series and best actress comedy noms. I’m really happy that Christina Applegate got nominated for Dead to Me – she was so great. Also love Schitt’s Creek and Fleabag, but I actually wish Dan Levy got the acting nod over his Dad. Have been meaning to watch Russian Doll, and these noms will make me do it!
And what’s with Fleabag getting noms in supporting actress comedy AND supporting actress drama? And I think they had an acting nom for limited series as well. Super weird.
I think that’s a typo—not on Kaiser’s part, I’ve read it elsewhere. Shaw’s drama nomination was for Killing Eve. And Kristin Scott Thomas was nominated for Guest Comedy role.
I wish Linda Cardellini had also been nominated in “ Dead To Me.” And where’s Aubrey Plaza in “Legion?” Is deadpan humor “out” this year?
I’m so happy for Emilia Clarke, I hope she will win!
I’m happy also for Amy Adams and Michelle Williams
I do hope Amy Adams wins, she was excellent in the show, and if they won’t give her an Oscar yet at least give her an Emmy!
Look at all the GOT noms! Emilia, Gwen and Alfie should absolutely win. I miss that show so much.
I wish Chernobyl had more love. I thought it beautifully acted and haunting and I was impressed by how they managed to explain the science in a comprehensible manner without teaching anything from the acting, pacing, or storytelling. Beautiful work, seamless integration of drama and fact.
Chernobyl got 19 nominations, it got a lot of love.
Yes, I see the full list now. So many damned catagories.
I want Schitt’s creek to win, it’s hysterical
Love, love, love Schitt’s Creek! so glad it is finally being recognized! Best comedy on television!
yes! best show on TV!! makes me happy to see Canadian shows thrive!
Ditto! I would love for it to you the respect it deserves. Catherine O’Hare is so great. Love, love, love her!
I love all the comedy noms except couldn’t get through 2nd season of Marvelous MM and after watching the first season of Barry I would not consider it a comedy. Love Henry Winkler character, but way too much death and destruction and very little haha.
ugh the marvelous mrs whatever second season, didn’t finish the first ep in the season.
Alfie Alfie Alfie! He deserves some recognition, his character went through so many ups and downs and crazy turns and he acted them out perfectly, go Theon!
Even his wordless scenes with Sansa this season were heartbreaking, so much emotion conveyed without speaking or crying, just glances.
Jharrel Jerome for the win. Honestly I was thinking he deserves some sort of award when I was watching when they see us. There’s a scene where he was interviewed by the police in front of the camera that really cemented it for me. I will never forget that scene, it was really hard to watch as I could see the real cory in that moment.
I’m actually here for Hugh Grant – he did a great job, Ben Whishaw killed it too. That show was great a actors deserve praise.
They both killed it.
I’m so happy that Better Call Saul got nods but it’s unfortunate that Rhea Seahorn didn’t get a nomination. She’s just as strong as the males. Better, imo, than Bob Odenkirk.
Seahorn should’ve been nominated for the last episode alone. She is brilliant in that role and it’s a shame she was overlooked.
I’m happy for Emilia and some of the actors in GoT, but what a f*cking joke to nominate GoT for literally any other award beyond costuming. It doesn’t even deserve it for the technical rewards after all the editing flubs and definitely not for the lighting mess of the Night King episode. Makes me scream to think what quality performances and writers are being overlooked for that circlejerk of mediocrity.
Music. The music deserves all the awards. It was stunning, amazing, haunting and beautiful.
Jaimeeeee! The King Slayer. Finally. I will see myself out!
Sharp Objects is peak Amy Adams. She deserves it. Such a grueling, intense role – she does it so effortlessly I don’t think these committees care that not many people acting today could or would do justice to the material like she does. Give her a go**am award already!
Jodie Comer! Finally!
Pretty happy for Alfie, Gwendoline, Sophie, Maisie, Emilia, and Peter. I didn’t think GoT gave Kit, Nikolai, or Lena much to do this season imo.
In the comedy series, those are all amazing shows. I think (and you know I say this all the time) The Good Place is the weak link in that list. TMMM is also weak compared to the others on the list. Barry, Fleabag, Russian Doll, Schitt’s Creek, and Veep – all brilliant. It’s like they went into my lists and picked out my favorite shows I watched in the last year.
I’m so happy for This Is Us! I’m so proud of Sis Duvernay.. and The 5 INNOCENT guys..
Beautiful doccie.. Hope they win
I am SO glad that Joey King was nominated for limited series The Act. It was on Hulu. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. It was one of my faves this year. The performances by her and Patricia Arquette are unbelievable.
Also, all of the other awards need to go to When They See Us. That series gutted me but it was incredible. The performances were brilliant. I’m here for Jharrel Jerome for the win.
Lena Headey, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams are not supporting actresses. They are leads. Is there some sort of other criteria that you have to meet to be considered a lead actor/actress that I’m missing here?
There aren’t any leads on the show, they are all supporting. However they bumped up Emilia and Kit to leads last year due to their characters emerging as the most important players in the show.
I really hope Jodie wins her category! She was fab in Killing Eve. Glad Fleabag and Marvellous Mrs Maisel also got nominated.
Jodie is really great, I’m glad to see her nominated.
I enjoy Maisel, but I’m kind of over it winning everything.
Did someone on Billions do these guys wrong? Ssn4 is the best piece of TV i ever watched and i cant believe they were not nominated for even the writing. Smdh.
I feel like a lot of somewhat weak actors are nominated. Emilia Clarke, Mandy Moore, Kit Harrington? Meh. Okay. I also don’t get the hype around Alex Borstein. She’s fine, but not great.
I don’t understand how Justin Hartley was snubbed for This Is Us. He’s not on the level of Sterling’s brilliance, but I think he’s a much better actor than Milo Ventimiglia and Chris Sullivan.
Tbh I haven’t seen escape from donnemora, Russian doll or when they see us but out of all the ones I’ve seen I hope Michelle Williams takes lead actress, she completely channeled Gwen Verdon. Anybody but Amy Adams. A lot of actresses would have been better cast in that role and her acting was an unfortunate distraction for me. Fleabag should win all the awards, especially lead actress. I hope Jared Harris wins for chernobyl and I hope Ozark wins nothing because I can’t stand Jason Bateman. These are my opinions and I’m sticking to them!
Hope your mom recovers fast! Would LOVE IT if Alfie Allen won; he broke my heart several times.
So happy to see Pose get recognized! Kind of bummed none of the women in the show were nominated, but I am thrilled for the exceptional Billy Porter. No question he will win the red carpet.
I’m really happy for all the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel acting nominations. The quality of acting talent in that show is incredibly high and well… marvelous! I cannot wait til the next season.
I’m looking forward to GOT jokes on stage.
Jharrel Jerome’s performance as Korey Wise in When They See Us was one of the most evocative I’ve seen in some time. They had to devote the ENTIRE fourth part to his story alone and thankfully so. To see him as an adolescent to a young man…. the NUANCE
I LOVE Schitt’s Creek and I’m so pumped to see it getting some recognition, but bummed that Dan Levy wasn’t nominated. He’s my favorite part of the show! I’ve been wanting to start fleabag…maybe this weekend if I get through Queer Eye quick enough.
I am ever so pleased for Ms Ava’s – When They See Us. They deserve all the awards!! Asante and Jharrel were incredible as Kevin and Korey. A very strong cast and powerful storytelling. I was sobbing and heartbroken for the Exonerated Five whilst watching this.
My partner got nominated!! Crazy excited.
Hope Alfie Allen wins! His character was my favorite in got and Allen played him SO well that it broke my heart watching his scenes. I feel like he had such great character development that continued to the finale…while the show really messed up other characters’ growth. Love Alfie! Also, I watched the latest Predator installment that featured Alfie…what a waste of his extreme talent! Haha but I think the movie was supposed to be cheesy.
I am SO happy for Catherine O’Hara and the Schitt’s Creek nominations.
Moira Rose is my all time favourite character on tv and Catherine is perfection in that role.
Sooo bummed Andrew Scott didn’t get nominated. He was awesome in Fleabag. Kneel indeed.
Black Monday (all the cast was great!) for Comedy, & Pose for Drama, should have had more nominations. Pfff !!!
IMO, Pose is THE drama of the year.
Dead to Me was a great show. Glad to see Christina Applegate get nominated
