I honestly forgot that Chelsea Clinton was knocked up again, and I totally forgot that this is her THIRD child. Chelsea and her husband Marc Mezvinsky welcomed their first child, daughter Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky, in September 2014. Their second child, son Aidan Clinton Mezvinsky, was born June 2016. And now the third child: son Jasper Clinton Mezvinsky. I kind of like that all three kids are “Clinton Mezvinsky” and without the hyphen, it just sounds like all the kids have Clinton as a middle name. I love that – using the mother’s maiden as a middle name. It’s sweet. With Aiden and Charlotte’s names, we knew that Chelsea was a Sex and the City fan. I surprised she didn’t name the third kid Sam, Alexander Petrovsky or Mr. Big. No, she really did go with Jasper:
This morning we welcomed our son, Jasper Clinton Mezvinsky. We are overflowing with love and gratitude and can’t wait to introduce him to his big sister and brother.

So… thoughts? I like the name Jasper, honestly. I feel like many parents are against Jasper because it’s not “masculine” enough or boyish or butch or whatever. I feel like Jasper is a good third-child name, and it’s a good name for a kid who wants to be an artist or a writer. I don’t think I’ve ever met a Jasper, but I would like to. It’s a pretty name.
Chelsea is 39 years old – do you think Jasper is her last? Or will she go for one more? I don’t know. She seems to enjoy pregnancy and motherhood, so maybe she’ll do it again.

She and her husband look really cute together.
I never thought of Jasper as being… not masculine? I think of Jasper National Park first when I see/read it, and a national park in the freaking Rockies sounds pretty masculine to me.
When I think of Jasper…I think of the British character “Jasper” from the E! TV series “The Royals”.
Albertan here, Erinn, so that is always my first association with Jasper as well!
It also has a lot of other lovely connections – Jasper is also a stone (a form of quartz and chalcedony), and a character on Road to Avonlea (introvert inventor Jasper Dale).
I do feel that it doesn’t quite fit with the super trendy Charlotte and Aiden, but it’s really nice to see her using a more unexpected name.
I love the name Jasper, but I’m from Alberta, so I don’t think i could get away with it.
I think of Jasper Johns.
Jasper just makes me think of a butler.
Same!
Congrats to her. I think of Jasper as being a cowboy / Western name. And the name of the southern dude on Twilight. It feels masculine to me!
I agree with this, my grandfather’s name was Jasper and he worked in oil fields in the west for a living, owned a ton of guns, lived on acreage in Oklahoma, and was about as masculine a person as I’ve ever known, so I definitely think of the name as western.
Congrats to her! I have a soft spot for her. She is such a kind and gracious person.
I kind of like the name Jasper; it is kind of old school but not old sounding, to me. You at least know there won’t be 15 other kids in the class with the same name like variations of Alex/Chris/Jessica/Sarah. I have worked in an office with two men and two women named Alex at the same time. Everyone in the office had to call them by their last names, so we could tell each of the
I like Jasper. I didn’t even realize she had a second child, leave alone was pregnant with her third. Congrats!
First thing to my mind with Jasper is from The Holiday, the guy who was the ex of Kate Winslet’s character.
YESSSSSSSSSS me too! And I kept saying it in a British accent.
I’m also delighted for Hillary and Bill Clinton. They deserve all the joy in the world. They should also have really good security because of the criminal types encouraged and labeled “Patriots” by our deranged, so-called leader.
When I her Jasper, all I think of is Jasper Dale from Road To Avonlea, my fave TV show when I was a kid (not sure if it ever made it to the US from Canada?)
I’m from Canada and I loved the character of Jasper Dale played by the super talented R.H. Thompson. Jasper was a shy, quiet but brilliant man who grew into himself after marriage to the sweet but strong willed Olivia King. What a great pair of characters.
I am from Austria and it was on tv here. It was my most favorite tv show. I recorded some episodes on VHS and watched it over and over. I was so surprised when I found out as an adult that it had been a long running show in Canada, in Europe they only showed the first season!
It was on for 7 seasons in Canada!! you guys missed out on the kids growing up and becoming adults!
I named my son jasper five and a half years ago.
I don’t know how it can be lacking in masculinity if it’s a kind of rock.
This feels like some toxic masculinity celebitchy, I expected better….
Chelsea likes the Canadian Rockies??? Jasper Natl Park
Congrats to Chelsea! She’s been a steady, shining light through the years. And she’s so positive and informative on her twitter account, which I turn to when I’m feeling discouraged.
Congrats to them!
We named our dog Jasper and totally regretted it when naming our son last month. Jasper would have been the perfect name and for a second we seriously considered renaming the dog!
I adopted a shelter puppy named Jasper, and renamed him Nick because it was close to Christmas. He was a beautiful reddish-brown color (probably where they got the name – from the stone), and such a wonderful boy. I wish we’d kept the original name.
Omg, I was in your shoes last year. I wanted to give my son my dogs name as his middle name but I thought people would think I was weird and I still think of it from time to time. There was no changing the pups name as he was just over a year old at that point and was my first baby. If I ever have another boy, I am definitely using it as a middle name if it fits.
Happy for her. She is a wonderful human being.
I have a soft spot for Chelsea, most of her life she took barbs meant to demean her parents. It is awesome to see her content and happy.
The first thing I think of when I hear Jasper is Horace and Jasper, Cruella’s two goons stealing puppies in 101 Dalmatians (the cartoon version that came first, not the live action with Glenn Close). It’s the first time I ever heard the name as a kid. And of course there is Jasper Cullen from the Twilight series, which hasn’t been mentioned yet but I know many of you thought of that first! 🙂
I think of Casper, the friendly ghost from that movie. I adore the name Charlotte, if my son was a girl, I would have named him Grace Charlotte, I like the name Aiden, both of which have become fairly popular names especially Charlotte but with that being said, I would never guess she would go so off the radar with Jasper. I honestly think I saw it on a few (at most) baby name sites and it only reminded me of Casper, the friendly ghost. I am fond of boy names that are unique, distinct and not wildly popular but this one has none of the appeal to me. My son’s name is only one syllable and still he has nicknames at a year and a half so I think that’s usually inevitable at some point for kids and Jasper being two, I would imagine is even more likely to be nicknamed at some point. Maybe he’ll be Jas or go by J. To each their own. I picked out my son’s name quite literally in my late teens, over a decade ago and went through every baby name book, naming site and possibility to ensure I didn’t find a name that would change my mind but it just stuck and I knew if I had loved it all that time that I wouldn’t suddenly fall out of love with it especially with it now being my new baby boy’s name and having that connection to it, I assumed would only make me love it more (and my presumption rang true luckily.)
If I ever had a girl, her name was going to be Charlotte Grace! I picked the name out when I was in high school. I don’t know why I liked Charlotte so much, but Grace is my grandmother’s name. I was sad when Charlotte picked up so much in popularity, but it seems a moot point since I’m not having biological kids. Although I did laugh because one of my good friends was talking about how he and his wife were struggling with baby names, I shared Charlotte Grace with him, he said how much he liked it…and then they named their daughter Charlotte.
My grandmothers name was Grace also and it is my middle name. Hoping one of my son’s uses it one day…
I like Jasper, but I really do think of Twilight when I hear it. Maybe Chelsea is a twi-hard at heart? LOL
anyway congrats to all of them. I enjoy Chelsea – she seems to have turned out driven but remains grounded and gracious. It could not have been easy growing up in the White House like she did, while your fathers affairs are front page news. To me, it says a lot about Hillary and Bill. They were/are really good parents.
The Italian derivative of Jasper is Gaspare.
Of which, there are plenty. Jay is the most common nickname for Gaspare.
It’s def more popular in Europe.
I like it.
She may very well go for one more. She grew up an only child getting kicked around by the media through no fault of her own. A sibling by her side would have probably made that easier, instead all she had were her parents that the attacks were actually aimed at. I don’t blame her for wanting a bigger family, and unlike the rest of us plebs she has enough money that age and supporting 4 kids won’t be obstacles.
I do quite like the name Jasper. Makes me think of the gemstone.
Congratulations! And I think of Jasper, AL, birthplace of my late husband or the artist, Jasper Johns.
I was really surprised when I read she was expecting #3 so who knows maybe she will have a fourth!
I haven’t seen it mentioned but made me think of Jasper Johns the artist
My son is named Jasper too! My husband comes from a huge family so it was hard to find a name that was relatively traditional, no one already had, and wasn’t too offbeat/ hippie/ old fashioned. I think it’s a great name, Chelsea!
Our cat is a Jasper! We named him after one of my favorite writers, Jasper Fforde.
What does that even mean? “A good third child name”? Are third children lesser?
I love the name Jasper! Thats what we named our great dane.
