NYT: Jeffrey Epstein ‘hoped to seed the human race with his DNA’

The more we learn about Jeffrey Epstein, the more mysterious he seems, right? Like, we still don’t know how he got all that money. We still don’t know how he wormed his way into royal, celebrity and academic society. We don’t know how many girls he abused, molested and raped over the course of decades. With each new article about Epstein these days, I find myself gasping in horror. This is another one: the New York Times probably started investigating how Epstein ingratiated himself into scientific and academic circles. But then they learned that Epstein actually wanted to create some kind of master race with his own “seed.” And so that became the lede.

Jeffrey E. Epstein, the wealthy financier who is accused of sex trafficking, had an unusual dream: He hoped to seed the human race with his DNA by impregnating women at his vast New Mexico ranch. Mr. Epstein over the years confided to scientists and others about his scheme, according to four people familiar with his thinking, although there is no evidence that it ever came to fruition.

Mr. Epstein’s vision reflected his longstanding fascination with what has become known as transhumanism: the science of improving the human population through technologies like genetic engineering and artificial intelligence. Critics have likened transhumanism to a modern-day version of eugenics, the discredited field of improving the human race through controlled breeding.

Mr. Epstein attracted a glittering array of prominent scientists. They included the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Murray Gell-Mann, who discovered the quark; the theoretical physicist and best-selling author Stephen Hawking; the paleontologist and evolutionary biologist Stephen Jay Gould; Oliver Sacks, the neurologist and best-selling author; George M. Church, a molecular engineer who has worked to identify genes that could be altered to create superior humans; and the M.I.T. theoretical physicist Frank Wilczek, a Nobel laureate. The lure for some of the scientists was Mr. Epstein’s money. He dangled financing for their pet projects. Some of the scientists said that the prospect of financing blinded them to the seriousness of his sexual transgressions, and even led them to give credence to some of Mr. Epstein’s half-baked scientific musings.

Scientists gathered at dinner parties at Mr. Epstein’s Manhattan mansion, where Dom Pérignon and expensive wines flowed freely, even though Mr. Epstein did not drink. He hosted buffet lunches at Harvard’s Program for Evolutionary Dynamics, which he had helped start with a $6.5 million donation.

[From The New York Times]

The most deplorable people in history share a fascination with eugenics and populating the earth with their own seed. I imagine Epstein’s fantasy was that he would populate his ranch with girls aged 13-16 and they would all live as sister-wives as he raped them and impregnated them until they all “aged out.” Like Warren Jeffs without the Mormonism. Just a cult, really. I wonder if… this New York Times article would have been written differently if Epstein hadn’t insinuated himself into the highest levels of scientific academia.

Holy hell. Disgusting and horrifying. It definitely sounds like a cult.

    • KittenHeels says:

The article is disgusting and horrifying for its content, but also for how the article was written.

It initially stated (in one of the paragraphs quoted in this post, in fact) that even after his conviction in 2008, he attracted a glittering array of prominent scientists. It then goes on to list them, as it does above.

As a big fan of the works of Stephen Jay Gould, I can tell there’s one main issue with that – he died in 2002.

The NYT updated the article without noting the correction.

Long story short? Clearly, Pinker and Dershowitz, in attempting to make themselves look better and throw others under the bus, gave a whole bunch of questionably true info to the NYT, who apparently barely fact checked.

I used to love the NYT but my goodness, this is shocking. Access journalism of the most insidious kind. Infuriating, really

      • Tiffany :) says:

Wow, that’s a huge error! Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I never would have known, and that kind of error says a lot about the quality of their reporting.

      • Nuzzy says:

The 2002 vs. 2008 thing is probably bad phrasing based on wanting all the scientists together in the story, but they did know each other.

      • KittenHeels says:

Nuzzy, the point of that paragraph originally was to say that EVEN AFTER 2008, when everyone should have known what Epstein was up to, these people hung out with him.

This is clearly a line pushed by Pinker, who is known to have spent time with Epstein after 2008 and wanted a bit of a buffer.

The fact that this is demonstrably false shows makes it looks like the NYT let bad facts into the piece if it kept a good relationship with Pinker, so he’d provide more details to them, especially previously unreported ones.

That should be considered journalistic malpractice by anyone who trusts the news. I want to pick up the NYT, the WaPost, etc., and trust them. The Post is great but the Times is making it harder and harder.

      • Nuzzy says:

I agree Kitten, and there is a big difference between knowing someone when there have been years of rumors and circumstantial evidence that a person has been a gross pedophile… and continuing to associate with them after a conviction for such. This was sloppy work by the NYT, but I’m not convinced it was more than that yet.

      • Mac says:

Let’s be real. If a rich white man goes to jail HE DID IT. He is GUILTY. They don’t go around putting people like Epstein in jail unless they really, really, really have to.

Any white man who tries to say he didn’t know the full extent of Epstein’s crimes is lying because they all know damn well it had to be bad for Epstein to negotiate such a sweetheart deal.

  2. Lucy2 says:

Well folks, we can shut it all down now. We have reached peak grossness in 2019.

    • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

The “peak” in this is that Epstein was eyeing 8 yr olds to “bring” to that ranch to groom them to be ready for him when they turned 12-14 yrs. old. The horror of it all…. JFC!

      • Kitten says:

        JFC.
        EIGHT. YEARS. OLD.

        He is so vile.

      • Senator Fan says:

Holy shit! Eight years old! What an evil, vile and putrid POS he is. I’m completely grossed out! I wonder if we’ll ever get the true number of victims at this point. So many lies and cover ups. Bogles the mind.

  3. jessamine says:

    well … ewww.

  4. Christin says:

Sick, sick, sick. Add to that the sheer hubris to think *he* is some genetic wonder!

    • elle says:

JFC, right? Like anyone would want to risk birthing a cranium like his. I guess these guys all have the opposite of funhouse mirrors.

  5. MeghanNotMarkle says:

    No. Just no.

  6. Emmet says:

Wasn’t this the Law & Order SVU with John Stamos as the perp?

  7. TIFFANY says:

So he watched that SVU episode with John Stamos and thought he could do it as well. Did he not watch to the very end…..

  8. Franny says:

If men like him had their way the Handmaid’s Tale would be reality. Vile. Who knows how close he came to carrying out this experiment? I think this weirdness is the tip of the iceberg.

    • Senator Fan says:

I agree with you completely! I bet we haven’t even heard half of this sicko’s crimes. I think we’ll be hearing about his crimes for years to come. And I also wonder too if he has kids out there that we aren’t aware of, yet.

  9. launicaangelina says:

    Gross, sick monster.

  10. AnnaKist says:

Farque me. I thought he was just a lowlife, fecking paedophile with a bulging wallet, but he’s actually a lowlife, fecking paedophile creep with a god complex and a bulging wallet. I wouldn’t be surprised if he mixed in certain circles because he connected with others sharing the same “interest” in young girls. Sick, filthy bastards.

  11. Mignionette says:

This man is a sociopath. Everything about him is indecent.

  12. Lizzie says:

Oh so he’s not just a pedo, rapist, panderer and thief he’s also racist? Consider me..shocked. This is shocking /s

  13. Ex checker says:

I recall some whispers thru the years concerning famous types linked to child rings and sex abuse that was ritualized. Nothing surprises me. Eyes wide open, people.

    • Here In My Jammies says:

Ex Checker. I’ve seen YouTube videos about that subject in the conspiracy section. I’m reconsidering whether or not dismissing these videos is the right move. Maybe there is more there there? The more I learn about the rich and powerful I keep finding they have personality disorders and sociopathy. It’s a persistent theme in the rich and powerfuls’ biographies.

  14. Kiki says:

What kind of sick, demented and gross Nazi @#$% is this? That guy needs to go to jail for life. Lock him up and let him spend the rest of his natural years in prison. THIS GUY IS A PERVERT.

  15. Jane says:

After reading this, I feel like taking a shower. Ewwww

  16. Who ARE these people? says:

Are they starting to angle for some kind of insanity defense or do the sources think making him sound ‘smart’ somehow diminishes the horror of his crimes? To quote a long-ago detective show, “Sick scum is still scum.”

  17. Nuzzy says:

Dude’s got body parts in Tupperware somewhere… just haven’t found them yet.

  18. Giddy says:

Hopefully, this pederast will never spend a moment outside of a jail cell for the rest of his life. I’d like each of his palatial estates to be cleansed with gallons of bleach, priests called in to bless the sites, then turned into counseling centers for abused women and children. I’d like for his enormous fortune to be used to run those centers and give each of the victims a lavish settlement, so that they never have to worry about their security. Finally, I’d like for him to be strapped naked in the middle of a circle made up of his victims. I want each of them to have a plastic knife, salt, lemon juice, and plenty of imagination. When they are through with him, I’d like for him to be staked naked to a fire ant mound in the blazing sun. I wish him long life so that these punishments can be performed many, many times.

  19. Starkiller says:

That headline literally made me throw up in my mouth a little.

  20. Sean says:

A problem I have with the way this article is written is it opens with stating he wanted to “impregnate women at his vast New Mexico ranch.” He wasn’t abusing adults, but children . I wish more outlets would make this distinction.

  21. HK9 says:

Out of all the headlines I thought I’d see on this site today, this was not one of them. Couldn’t have made this up if I tried. Wow.

  22. Whitecat says:

I mean we do know how he made his money – by finding a wealthy financer (Les Wexner of Victoria’s Secret) who basically granted him access to Hollywood and the fashion world. Don’t forget Ghislaine maxwell who is a socialite in the UK and Europe (look up her father’s background and the rest of her siblings – they are involved in DAVOS and many world leaders). It’s very probably he made his wealth through blackmail and got recruited by intelligence – hence his untouchable status… until it wasn’t.
If you go digging on him and his associates, it’s all there.
Jeffrey Epstein is a sick sociopathic pedophile trafficker, but sadly I don’t think he’s the only one. I truly believe he’s set up to be the fall guy.

    • cannibell says:

I keep wondering when Maxwell is going to be indicted.

On a separate note, my brother-in-law is a scientist (and a big dog in his field) and I sent the piece to my sister. Her response? “I read that article out loud to him this afternoon!!!! I said, ‘Be careful who you hang out with.’!!!!!!”

      • Whitecat says:

I keep wondering too! She’s already been named by several of epstein’s victims as well.

    • Gabriella says:

Interesting re: Epstein being a fall guy. Any theories as to for whom?

      • Sean says:

I’m going to say everyone. Everyone who’s ever “partied” with him. The Clintons, Trump and Prince Andrew weren’t the only high-profile players in this. He befriended many people who have the means to permanently ruin someone’s life or worse if they so desired. Frankly, I’ll be surprised if he remains alive long enough to see a trial.

      • Whitecat says:

Exactly what Sean said. Basically anyone whoever partied with him. His case is very similar to Marc Dutroux in Belgium were he was also the ‘fall guy’.

  23. Valerie says:

    What the actual f*ck?

  24. Luna says:

This man and his proclivities are horribly disgusting, full stop. However, this story also paves the way for the rich and powerful with whom he associates to dismiss any allegations or testimony he might give as the account of a bonkers lunatic, almost giving them all an “out.”

  25. NYC_girl says:

Incredibly creepy. I’m picturing the masked ball scene from “Eyes Wide Shut” with this creep.

  26. CC says:

Could you imagine him on top of you? Chills. Chills. CHILLS.

  27. Justwastingtime says:

Given a background in investment management and some reading up on his background I am reasonably sure his money is some horrible combo of : 1) blackmailing people in letting him manage their money, 2) blackmailing people straight up for cash, 3) money laundering, and 4) selling children to predators (remember the child from Thailand that one of his victims was supposed to smuggle into the US before she bailed?)

I need to go take a shower now..

  28. A says:

Here’s the thing–there’s more than one scientist in that group who’s probably in agreement with certain elements of his hairbrained idea. If pressed, they’d probably disavow the parts about impregnating underage girls in a New Mexico ranch. But the whole concept of improving the human race by selective breeding aka eugenics has sadly not died out. There are many MANY scientists, prominent ones too, who probably accept the notion at face value. James Watson, one of the two people who won the Nobel Prize for discovering the structure of DNA, was recently stripped of a bunch of honours and fired because he continues to think, as he has for some time now, that biological race is real and that it determines your intelligence, and that black people are less intelligent because of their race.

I hope people understand more that the societal markers of intelligence actually matter very little. A lot of people who would arguably be thought of as very smart, such as Nobel Prize winners, are actually fundamentally stupid about a great deal of things in their life. There are people I know who don’t have a university degree, who graduated high school through great difficulty, who could tell you right now that selective breeding of any variety, over several generations, causes horrible results and weakens the species as a whole. They know this because they have worked to rescue animals their whole life. They come face to face with pugs that have breathing problems, great Danes with hip dysplasia etc. These people would probably be dismissed because they’re poor, disabled, not wealthy, and without much of an education. And yet, these people know more than all of these supposed bright minds. Funny how that works.

  29. Hoot says:

    Posted above.

  30. Dark and Stormy says:

This is just a conspiracy theory but I’m really starting to think this arrest doesn’t have anything to do with the victims. I’m starting to think it’s mostly related to seizing anything and everything he had on everyone. I think someone or a small group of someones came up with a plan to have him arrested and incarcerated while they collected every single shred of evidence. It will all be buried and the victims will get a little something for their trouble. I don’t get a “do gooder” vibe from this at all; I get more of a seek and destroy vibe, as in seek and destroy all evidence against others while he’s in jail and leave him with nothing to bargain/blackmail with.

  31. Not today Satan…..not today.
