I’ve made my peace with the fact that I’ll never “get” Pete Davidson. I don’t get why people think he’s funny (he’s not), nor will I ever understand how he manages to date incredibly beautiful, famous women. First it was his whirlwind, WTFery romance with and engagement to Ariana Grande. Then he bounced back from that with a four-month fling with Kate Beckinsale. They ended in April of this year. Now he’s dating someone his own age, someone on the come up: Margaret Qualley, best known to me for her role in Fosse/Verdon, but some of you might know her from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (the first time I ever saw her was in a small role on Mad Men). Margaret is 24 years old and she’s Andie McDowell’s daughter. See the resemblance? Well, Margaret and Pete have been dating for a few months. Ugh.
Pete Davidson has a new love in his life! The Saturday Night Live star is dating actress Margaret Qualley, Us Weekly can exclusively reveal.
“They’ve been seeing each other for a couple of months and Margaret is really excited about him,” a source tells Us, noting that the pair are planning to make their red carpet debut at the Venice Film Festival together. Qualley, who appeared in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, has a role in Seberg, which will premiere at the Venice festival on Friday, August 30.
Davidson, 25, was most recently linked to Kate Beckinsale. Us confirmed the twosome called it quits after nearly four months together in May.
I’m not trying to be TOO judgy, but how and why? Pete is a deeply unfunny dude who lives with his mom and plays video games constantly. Are these women – Ari, Kate and now Margaret – so fed up with the other guys on offer that they somehow end up with Pete? Is Pete’s pickup line really that good? And before everyone gets all up in arms and starts yelling about how Pete is a nice guy who treats women like gold and that’s more important… like, I don’t believe that. I don’t think he’s a good boyfriend at all. He seems like a massive pain in the ass emotionally, and don’t even start with that BDE sh-t. I think that’s why he keeps cycling through women too.
Update: A lot of people are taking issue with my general vibe of Pete – I’ve never really liked him and that’s my opinion, nothing more and nothing less. Some of you clearly like him and stick up for him, and that’s fine too. There’s nothing wrong with living with your parents or playing video games, or dating while dealing with mental health issues. I just get a vibe that he’s a real a–hole as a boyfriend.

I feel this is a PR relationship for her. Unfortunately for Pete (or fortunately?) He is perfect pr boyfriend fodder. She wants to make her name bigger after OUATIH, hes the dodgy ex of Ariana Grande, the younger man of Kate, “edgy” comedian, for some reason SNL favorite – its classic “girl changes boy into better” PR.
She was great in The Nice Guys (Amelia) & in Fosse/Verdon. She doesn’t need Pete for anything. I sense this is more Pete’s need to be seen with the “it” girl. Look at his past girlfriends. Cassie David, Ariana, Kate Beckinsale (whatever THAT was) I think she had a great future & Pete is the wrong avenue to go down. I wish the best for him as he clearly has issues but she can do SO much better. Her star is on the rise, his? Not so much as I have never found him funny & he has a definite Lurch from the Addams Family thing going on
Her mum is Andie MdDowell. She does not need a guy to elevate her if nepotism was her way to go (which doesn’t seem like it as she did not take her mum’s name). She was the – really good – dancer that Taylor Swift ripen off in her dancing video (cannot remember which as I don’t listen to her music). Also, Qualley was super in my favorite series ever, The Leftovers.
We just need to accept that the ladies dig Pete.

She’s never had a gossip headline and Ariana and Kate’s relationship with him gathered many gossip columns. She wants to be an actress, raising her public profile is one way.
Honestly that’s what she sees in him. He’s probably fun (in the beginning) and gets her headlines.
She already is an actress. If she’s doing this for PR, which I think is likely, then she wants to be a celebrity.

That’s what I thought, too…they kinda look alike. Not in a good way.
I mean – there’s a huge difference between living with your mom in his circumstances than there is someone who doesn’t work and has to stay in mom and dads basement because their band might make it ‘someday’. And have you met men in this age range? I don’t know a single guy who DOESN’T play at least some video games haha.
My husband never played a video game and he is in his early 30ies…. However I know plenty of couples who play games together so sometimes that isn’t really an issue…
We’re 29, and we both play. I don’t play seriously – but I get sucked into the Zelda games. And we’ll play mario party, or mario kart or whatever mindless fun games are popular. I’ll pick up a video game here and there, but my attention span for them used to be great when it was summer and I was a kid. I could put HOURS into games back then. As an adult I mostly just dabble here and there when I have time to kill, or if something I like gets released.

Wow. Maybe he’s a sweet, endearing, funny mess who’s amazing in bed? I’ve worked with comedians before and the thing is, a person who is hilarious in real life can sound flat on air. It takes insane levels of comedy to be funny over the radio or through the screen. Maybe he’s funny face-to-face? He’s definitely a mess though.

What’s wrong with living with mom especially given his mental health condition? He needs all the support. I like that he is close to his mom.
My son is on the spectrum, he’s 27 and lives with us. He’s finishing 2 more semesters of college, he also works part time, pays us rent, and is really helpful around the house. It’s beneficial for all of us. It makes me like PD more that he lives with his mom.
Thanks for your input. I find that we have many preconceived ideas about how people should live and what is healthy and what is not. We often forget context. Kudos for bringing it and for being an awesome parent.

I won’t comment on the mental health side of the question but the only guy whom I dated and lived with his mum… the whole thing killed the relationship after a decade (I am patient), he didn’t feel to move out even after we bought a house together.
He was not a scrounger, he had an admin job, but this fact was impressed on my mind so much that any time I went out with a guy who lived with his mum… there was never a second date.
I feel you’re being a bit judgy here on Pete Davidson. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea & you don’t get him. That’s fine but everyone has different tastes on what they find funny. He can be funny, at times. He’s 25. Most 25 year olds play video games. However, I suspect many people haven’t dealt with anyone who has BDE… borderline personality disorder & it’s a whirlwind for both people. If Pete is still is in therapy & is actively managing it, he will be fine. It’s the people that don’t that cause the people around them the most roller coaster of emotions. Is he supposed to close himself off because he has BDE?

Cycling through women? I mean, he’s 25 and dating. I don’t see anything wrong with that. And who knows how he treats his girlfriends? I’ve never really heard anything negative. And I think it’s more of his mom lives with him situation. Like @erinn said above he’s not an unemployed free loader on his moms couch.
That was my thought too. He’s not cycling through women, he’s dating.That’s what you do at that age until you find someone to be serious with, if that’s what you want.

Buahah! I live in a european country where it’s totally normal to live with your parents if you’re in your 20s.
In my neighborhood, which is 90% Asian, the oldest child is expected to stay with the parents. I have watched two neighbors go through struggles when their sons reached adulthood and wanted to move away although both have now come back, with wives, and they now have grandchildren living in the homes too.
Normal for a large percentage of North Americans too. It’s a global problem for Millenials.
I know a few who are stuck doing that because of how expensive it is to live around here, and there are very few rentals.

Me! Me! (raises hand) I wrote this down below. Living with my dad is simply the most cost-efficient thing for me. I have a job, I pay the bills, and he lets me live as an adult.
My boyfriend and I have come to the conclusion we love each other and we want to be together… just not live together. And living alone would mean living in a much worse apartment while paying much more for it.
Honestly, people thinking I’m a loser is literally the only reason I wouldn’t live with my dad. And I don’t care about that.
Im Muslim. And in Islam it is perfectly normal for families to live together. My Mom lived with me for years before she got sick. And my brother and I still live together. We plan on moving my Mom back with us when we buy a new place. Living with family IS normal in most cultures.

In some European countries there is no way to step on the real estate ladder, so the families are literally forced to live under the same roof.
I could live independently only when I moved abroad and it felt like I suddenly got wings.
Pete, on the other hand, could easily afford a place for his mum and one for himself.
He might do it because he feels better with his mum around due to his mental health issues, yet let’s not pretend it is normal or better….
I find him funny to a certain extent at times, but I get that not everyone does. He’s young, why shouldn’t he date? It doesn’t seem like he’s had a ton of relationships either, seems normal and healthy to me.
I also thought he bought a large house and moved his mom in because he makes a lot of money and wanted to support, he’s close with her and she is supportive in his mental health.
I guess since we haven’t heard anything from past girlfriends that he’s an awful person or bad boyfriend he seems fairly harmless.
For Pete Davidson, Ariana Grande was what I call his start up. Most women would look at Pete and at first glance think he’s nothing special, but guys only need that one hot woman to date him, and then the other hot women soon follow. It’s the curiosity of “whyyyy is she dating him?? What does she see that I don’t?? Let’s find out!” So first came Ari then Kate, and so on and so forth.

She was mainly the girl from the Leftovers, Justin Theroux’s daughter in the show, and was the dance in the commercial TSwift ripped off for her Delicate video. Qualley was also spotted hanging with Theroux in NYC when the first rumors of the Theroux-Aniston divorce were popping up (along with Selena Gomez,) so there’s something shady there. I don’t think she’s a good actress at all honestly, and was not good in Fosse/Verdon (anyone could have done the same job) so she’s mostly just beautiful and graceful.
I think it’s weird the headline here includes her age because the relationship is age-appropriate-both young people in their mid-twenties.

Kaiser- Listen to Pete’s interview on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast if you get a chance. His story is tragic and hilarious. It’s hard not to root for him after hearing it all in his words.
I really like the guy, and appreciate very much the way he speaks publicly about his borderline personality disorder and encourages people to seek help and get medicated, like its “ok” to take medication and deal with your shit because nobody is perfect so don’t stress. He’s a good role model in my opinion getting people to talk about mental health, and I think he’s adorable. Sorry if he seems emotionally needy AF in a relationship, but that might not necessarily be his fault. Dude is a kid, and dealing with a pretty heavy diagnosis that’s stemmed from who knows what. I battle cptsd every single day, and my symptoms are similar to Borderline Personality Disorder. Kid is doing his best, and I appreciate that about him and wish him happiness.
Kate- Thank you for this and I’m so sorry you deal with that. Pete’s stems from his firefighter dad dying in 9/11 when he was 7.
From what I’ve seen, I think she’s really charismatic on screen, and seems to have put the work in, so I hope others don’t flag her with the other nepotism kids … obv she’s had the connections to get a leg up, but I think she could have a good career 🙂
