I really do try to sit out a lot of the Mommy Wars. I’m not a mom, I’m just a single woman with two cats, judging from the sidelines. Do I think that it’s appropriate for five-year-olds to wear makeup? No, I don’t. But I also remember being fascinated with my mother’s makeup when I was a kid, and I get how some moms are like “okay, you can wear some lipstick and blush today” especially if they have a kid who is fascinated by that stuff. So… this is a photo of Kaia Rose Biermann, daughter of Real Housewife Kim Zolciak. She’s five years old and wearing a face full of makeup.
Taken on its own, the issue of “a very young child wearing makeup” is more nuanced, as I said. But in this situation… Kim Zolciak has older daughters Brielle and Ariana, both of whom have been getting cosmetic work for a while. Brielle’s had a crazy-jacked face since she was like 19 years old. Ariana has looked jacked since she was 17. So… it’s complicated. It’s not just “Kim allows her child to wear makeup for fun a few times!” It’s more like “we have proof that Kim teaches her daughters to undergo cosmetic procedures at a young age for no real reason.”
Anyway, people were freaking out in the comments of Kim’s Instagram posts. She denies allowing Kaia to wear hair extensions and she also said that that the child isn’t wearing eyeliner. But… Kaia is definitely wearing mascara, right? And eye shadow. And bright lipstick. And foundation and blush. Anyway, just another reminder… Kim Zolciak might love her children but she clearly teaches them that they are not good enough naturally. It’s painful.

Wow, they all look fake and ridiculous. I feel bad for the daughters
I’ve seen vinyl blow-up dolls that look more real than these vapid cosmetic procedures worshipers. But this is a woman who photo-shopped her own daughter’s butt, isn’t it? Airhead City.
Much ado about nothing. This is like Jessica Simpson allowing her daughter to dye her hair pink.
Make up can be scrub off at anytime.
However, all the cosmetic surgery is ridiculous.
While it might be ok to let your child play with makeup ( occasionally), its definitely not ok to post their full face makeup photo for thousands of people out there.
But no big surprise here…
I agree. I worry when many people, not just celebs post pictures of their children. I saw an HBO special, and they showed how it’s easy for people to find your location, and g0d for bid, come in search of you. It’s a scary world we live in!
Right, plus there are creepy pedophiles out there looking for pics like this. I would NEVER put my child on display in this way. But this is the same Kim Z. who offered her eldest daughter ‘s “oral services” to John Legend for concert tix so I’m not surprised she is starting Kaia young. It’s disturbing.
“But this is the same Kim Z. who offered her eldest daughter ‘s “oral services” to John Legend for concert tix”
she did that?! How gross, for her, for her daughter, for Legend, Teigen…so low class.
I agree. I actually deleted all of my personal social media accounts (except a basic LinkedIn) after I had my child. Her public persona is her property and she has some basic rights and deserves control over what is handed over to corporations like Facebook.
econdista – I think it’s good that you don’t post your child on social media, but think about this, do you have nothing to post about your life other than your child? Why not use social media the same way you used it BC (before children)?
I so agree! It’s not a question about makeup (it’s really not such a big deal) but the fact that she posted the pic online. That is what I find really disturbing and downright dumb to be honest
I watch a 4.5 year old girl who loves to play with makeup. However, when she “does her makeup” it’s basically just her painting her entire face with blue and green eyeshadow and putting lipstick on her forehead and neck. Makeup is just a fun form of painting that she gets to do on her body. And she knows how adult women like her mom use makeup, so she knows the “correct” places for eyeshadow and lipstick and blush, but she has no interest in doing it the “correct” way because she’s not thinking about hiding her “flaws” or accentuating her “best features” or looking more alluring/presentable/healthy/ professional/young/pretty/whatever other reason adult women like to wear makeup.
There’s such a difference between letting a little girl play with makeup (in the true sense of the word play), and having an adult apply a full face of adult makeup on a child.
kids practice what they see around them. My two year old sees me painting my toenails and desperately wants to do it too.
I do worry about exposing little people to possibly harmful chemicals in makeup, nail polish, and hair dyes but I don’t think this is about children finding their appearance inadequate, I believe it’s performative learning.
Good point about the chemicals.
This woman is a menace. Aside from the obvious, she sells fake stuff on IG, acts like she thinks she 20 and photoshops her young twins!
She has photoshopped Kaia’s nose and behind in photos.
The list is endless.
I really wish I didn’t follow her on IG, but I guess it’s like driving by an accident….
her lips looks stupid. you must have something wrong with you to look in the mirror and be happy with two bloated slugs crawling on your face.
I’m not a fan of this woman buuuut… I always got to wear a full face of makeup once a year for dance recitals and it was the best day ever. EVER.
I don’t know, looks kind of like a filter to me?
But either way, let your daughter have some privacy!
Sheeesh, the faces on these women…
If it’s a one time thing for a short period of time, it’s fine. Otherwise, foundation is a big no for children and pre-teens as it can damage their skins for ever. I didn’t know this until I heard a makeup artist refusing to give lessons to a 12 year old girl.
I just noticed Kaia has her own Insta page with 67,000 followers at 5 years old! You cannot tell me that some of those followers aren’t pedos. Horrible.
WOW. That is concerning. I agree with the poster about it invites predators into homes.
Isn’t there an age limit for social media? Can a five year old really have a fb or instagram account? Are the rules different for celebs?
There should be an age limit. Idk I’m not a parent, just a teacher and cell phones/tablets are very powerful motivators for children and they imitate our behaviors. Kids are taking selfies with duck lips 🙄
The makeup…ehh. I’m nonplussed. BUT I am, however, terrified that she doctor’s her youngest daughter’s photos. Even the picture above, there’s a distinct line on it. There have been some photos where she’s made her nose smaller and her waist more defined.
I’m no Kim apologist and I definitely give serious side eye to the way she behaves with and encourages her older girls to behave… but in this case, it looks like Kaia is on a blue screen doing their reality show, which likely means she has stage makeup on.
I still find the entire concept bizarre. My five year old is obsessed right now with wanting fake nails (I wear dip manicure, which she thinks are fake) and I refuse entirely. Sometimes she wants lip gloss or a blowout and I’ll oblige but it’s very rare. Let kids be little on their own terms.
When little girls play with Mommy’s makeup, they look like little girls playing with Mommy’s makeup. That girl above does not look like she was playing. And she most definitely doesn’t look like she’s five years old. I can talk Dance Moms, stage makeup, dance and acting costumes and girls quickly ridding their faces of heavy makeup after the event, but again, the photo above shows a very adept hand at an everyday look. Where does she go from here being only five? Young ladies being allowed to wear mascara and/or lip gloss used to be a right of passage into junior high or high school. I can only imagine the coming years.
Looks like about 10% organic material between the lot of them.
Hahahaha!
Thank you for that
I just fear this type of behavior puts too much emphasis of a womans worth on whether others find them attractive. I doubt this family genuinely enjoys makeup but instead, as this post points out, are sent the message that they aren’t enough the way they are, which at 5 is such a shitty message to have already received
I let my six year old play with makeup since she was 4 years old. She goes all out but I would never let her go to school with it.
