If I were to pick some sports which I thought Donald Trump would receive the best reception, I would choose professional football, professional baseball and anything to do with wrestling and/or UFC. Those are the sports that seem to have primarily white-dude fans and those seem to be the sports which attract the least “woke” people. But… when Trump went to a World Series game last week, the bitch got booed. Booed by (mostly) white baseball fans, can you imagine. But then it got even worse last night: Trump went to Madison Square Garden for the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) thing and… bitch got booed again. By what felt like the ENTIRE MSG. So what does this all mean? Does it mean that Trump’s go-to demographic – white dudes aged 18 to 50 – are no longer ride-or-die for him? Does it mean that sports fans just hate when a politician shows up? Does it mean that Barack Obama could walk into any sports arena or stadium and get a massive cheer? I don’t know. But it’s certainly interesting on a lot of levels. It also takes some next-level delusion for Trump’s staffers to continue to put him in this position, right? You would think that after the bitch got booed at the baseball game last week, his staffers would have put the kibosh on sending him to any sporting events for a while. But maybe that was the point – they thought Trump would get a really good reception at this UFC match and that a crowd “cheering” for him would stop the story about him getting booed. Well, that blew up in his fat orange face.

That also surprises me as well. I have relatives that go to both collegiate and professional sporting events more than a couple times a year, and the pro baseball tickets are both the most affordable and easiest to get. They also have said that it’s also the most economic when it comes to food and non alcoholic drinks, because the Brewers allow you to bring in pre-made food and water, which saves a lot of money.
Baseball tickets are cheaper because a regular season has 162 games per year. Basketball has around 80, football has 16.
…and hockey has 82. Tickets are pricey.
Also worth noting he visited a World Series game so most people there probably paid more than the standard ticket price.

Also, UFC fan demographics are actually pretty in line with the wider population and it skews younger than “established” sports. I get why people would think this would be his crowd, but it’s not. And, as has been pointed out, it’s NYC. Did Trump’s flunkies think MSG would be filled with folks from deep red areas?
UFC fans are very diverse and include many disciplined martial artists who range from conservative to socialist to anarchist. The level of skill and toughness is almost immeasurable. My ex-husband was a judoka and my son a jiu jitsu player and these folks are complex and hard to situate politically. And of course NYC despises Trump (except perhaps Staten Island).
My parents are NASCAR fans. They believe in equality. They practice kindness. They support and foster inclusion. I’d like to think they wouldn’t be the only ones booing if this idiot showed up at a race.
(Side note: yes, there are big environmental concerns regarding NASCAR. I’ve definitely talked to my parents about them, and I think they’re receptive—it’s just not an overnight change for them.)

Hated in NYC. Everyone knows someone who he cheated, and ended up receiving less than what was CONTRACTED, which makes it all the more confusing in regards to his base. Just got my 401k statements- lost money again. Live in the south now, and everyhing is going up- $. People are working 2-3 jobs and just barely making it- but he and his Goldman-Sachs buddies (who have wisely deserted him), made sure the 1% got their tax break. There are a lot of wealthy people who despise him; not all wealthy people think “taxes are bad”, “taxes are terrible”, etc…..there is a fair level we need to reach of course but all loopholes have to be closed; that’s the problem and always has been. Taxes can be at x% but if there are loopholes to avoid them, people will take advantages of them; that’s what VERY GOOD tax experts are for……….

My family is Italian american and from that area too-and although my parents are Democrats, a lot of the family are staunch republicans. I just don’t get how people who were immigrants- and had to work for years to get equal footing in the states, can deny the chance for a better life to other immigrants. They were only legal immigrants bc of the laws then- under Drumph they would be denied as they came in penniless!

Nope. It won’t protect him from being prosecuted for tax evasion he committed while he was a NY resident.
It doesn’t protect him. Florida will extradite to NY, but it protects some property assets. I think Florida has some homestead provisions that New York doesn’t have so if they seize property, some real estate will be protected

There’s a value cap, but I think it’s obscenely higher than in any other state. The kicker is you can only claim the exemption if you are a legal resident of the state. He got nearly half the vote plus or minus. That means there’s also plenty of white males who didn’t vote for him, plus it’s New York who hate his guts. So, satisfying but not surprising.
Same deal in Washington and the baseball game (where there were also some cheering, to be fair).
He got less than a quarter of the vote- half the people didn’t bother to vote, and Hillary (perhaps the most maligned, least popular democrat) won the majority by three million. I notice a lot of people saying similar things about him getting half the vote lately, and we shouldn’t be buying into that thinking, because it will only make it easier to accept defeat, and if we are defeatist that will embolden him to try to steal the election again.
PS- A lot of Republicans hate him too, but most of them have left the party. It would be interesting to compare GOP membership numbers from 2015 to now (it’s shrunk dramatically), maybe be able to derive some general numbers of how hated he is.
I was very pleasantly surprised to learn this happened. If any “sport” would be Trump fans, it would be UFC – it’s basically for people who enjoy watching poor people kicking each other in the head. Plus Dana White, who runs it, is a big MAGA, and its biggest star Conor McGregor is an alleged rapist who just pleaded to beating up an elderly man in Ireland. I frankly thought they were going to cheer for Trump, and that Trump’s appearance here was designed to counter the booing at the baseball game. They were counting on a warm welcome.

Yes, MMA fighting is indeed a sport, full of complex techniques that take years upon years to master. It’s very clear that None of the shady comments about this sport or UFC fans were left by people who train in kickboxing or jiu jitsu. If any of you did train, you’d see that the gym/fighter demographics run the gamut of ethnicity and political thinking. Are there idiots? Yep. Are there “woke” individuals who frequent Trump-related protests? Hell yes.
The appalling garbage fire that is Dana White, and his former golden boy Conor, is worthy of all condemnation, (and I could vent about them ALL day) but they seem to have confused the fight-illiterate masses into thinking we’re all of that mindset. No, they certainly do not represent every UFC fan.

Co-signing this. When I started training, there were some people who I assumed would be super conservative, but they are some of the most progressive people I know. And I live in a red state with a high number of Trump supporters. I’ve found that, more often than not, politics don’t come up in the gym. In fact, I really only ever talk politics with my trainers during private sessions and that’s because I work in that field (and they’re both anti-Trump).
But you guys are talking about the athletes- it’s the audience that seems like they would be MAGA.

Someone I know told me this story about how, years ago, when Stephen Harper was still PM of Canada, he came to a soccer game somewhere in Vancouver and sat in the audience with bodyguard/security person. The person who told me this story told me that they went up to Harper, said hello, and then said, “Mr. Harper, I don’t agree with your policies one bit.”
That’s a democracy. Being able to go up to the elected leader of the country and tell them, to their face, that you disagree with them. I was really impressed by this. I always try to remind myself never to vote for someone based on their personality, but their policies. Politicians are not hired to be my friend. They are hired to do a job. I also always try to tell myself that even if it is a politician I’ve voted for, there’s nothing that should conceivably stop me from being critical and holding them accountable for what I think they might be doing wrong. I feel like the world would be better served if we stopped voting for politicians based on things like how much we like them or how charismatic they come across. Politics is the last place where those types of things should matter, and yet it’s the one place where things of that nature seem to matter the most.
All this to say, f-ck Trump.
