Demi Lovato has had a great couple of weeks. At the Grammys, Demi was on stage for the first time since her overdose in 2018 and got a standing ovation for her performance of her new song, “Anyone.” A week later, she sang the National Anthem at the start of the Super Bowl. (I preferred her performance of the latter, actually, and the National Anthem is not an easy song to sing well!)
Demi is celebrating what she is referring to as her “spiritual awakening” and got a beautiful tattoo on her back to mark this milestone. She shared it in an Instagram post on Tuesday, and explained the meaning behind it. That post is above and here’s the caption:
I recently went dark on social media in preparation for my Grammy and Super Bowl performances but while I was off socials I got this incredibly meaningful tattoo done by @alessandro_capozzi. Getting tatted by him was an experience I’ve never had before.. no idea what I was going to get done, I told him about my life and where I was at in that moment and we created a combination on images that best symbolized the spiritual awakening I was having. Having a fallen angel being lifted by 3, pure, angelic doves (the Holy trinity) as her inner light is being guided by a higher consciousness, and the disintegration of her dark wings was representing the darkness I was shedding. Alessandro – you are extremely talented and I can’t wait for more!! Thank you for this special experience.. the only bummer is I can’t physically see this amazing artwork because it’s on my back! Haha. Also shout out to @scooterbraun for introducing us! 🖤🕊💉 ps. I still can’t believe how life like this looks and it healed amazing as well 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Tattoo artist Alessandro Capozzi first shared the image on Christmas Eve last year after Demi came to see him. He called it “‘Divine Feminine’✨ Destruction Effect XVIII,” writing, in part: “We created this piece together to represent a rebirth of the spirit… Congratulations on your inspiring journey Demi, honored to have represented this for you.”
According to TMZ via People, this took 8 hours to complete. I believe it. I think that the tattoo is beautiful and the detail and shading are incredible. I’m sad for Demi that she doesn’t get to see it unless she looks in some well-placed mirrors or has someone take a photo for her, though. I have a few tattoos now. They all have special meaning, and I love being able to easily see them. That was important to me. In Demi’s case, Alessandro couldn’t have done justice to this image and to what Demi and he wanted to create if it were much smaller, though. I’m glad Demi’s happy with it and that it’s healed nicely. I hope that things only continue to get better for Demi and that she releases new music soon!
I am so tired of her. She will do anything to stay in the spot light.
She made an Instagram post, lol.
Yes. How dare she. The nerve. SMH
That is really pretty, I like it
+1. TBH I expected sth tacky after reading the headline and am surprised how good this looks.
Not my taste but really well made. I almost thought it was Photoshopped
She’s still hanging out at bars and with known during users. Plus I think she was on something at the grammys…the eyes don’t lie. I don’t think she’s sober….no comment on her spiritual awakening. I don’t buy her same old act.
Not really a tattoo fan, but that artist did a great job.
I hope she’s doing ok. She did do a great job at the SB.
I hate it… but the artist is obviously talented. It’s just ugly to me. I think the back is such a beautiful space on a woman’s body, and I’m pretty against tattoos in general there. Personal preference. To each their own.
Agree 110%
That doesn’t look real.
That looks oddly crisp, as if it’s a superimposed drawing, not yet inked into her skin. But maybe the tattooist really is that good. The wings look like butterfly wings, not angel wings and the fabric draping down looks clunky to me somehow. The birds are pretty, though and it’s an interesting concept.
