The Sussexes are ‘heeding government advice’ during the coronavirus pandemic

Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex arrives at The Mountbatten Festival of Music

The Queen is finally moving to Windsor Castle for the foreseeable future. She’s cancelling garden parties and appearances and the royals’ public schedules have understandably grinded to a halt in this Brave New Coronavirus World. But what of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex? They both arrived in Canada – Vancouver Island, to be exact – last week, before Justin Trudeau issued some stricter travel rules and social distancing/isolation guidelines. Well, a source told Harper’s Bazaar exclusively that Meghan and Harry are taking all of the appropriate precautions:

The Sussexes are ensuring that they’re taking proper precautions to remain safe during the coronavirus pandemic. According to a palace source, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are following government advice when it comes to navigating life while combating the virus. Both royals are currently back in Canada after completing their final round of royal engagements in England last week.

“[The Sussexes are] taking the appropriate measure of heeding government advice. Like everyone, they are taking government advice, and if and when they are specifically made aware of being in contact with someone who has tested positive, they will act accordingly,” a palace source tells BAZAAR.com. “We are not commenting or guiding further on private medical details.”

[From Harper’s Bazaar]

The reason why people think Harry (in particular) may have been exposed is because he did that event with Lewis Hamilton about a week and a half ago, and Lewis Hamilton had been around Idris Elba and Sophie Trudeau around the same time. Both Sophie and Idris tested positive for the virus. It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if both Harry and Meghan had been exposed to the virus during their stay in the UK – I have believed for weeks now that more people have been exposed than we even know, and that many people (if properly tested) would likely test positive for the virus but be mostly asymptomatic. Anyway, the Daily Mail did a piece about How Dare Meghan Take The Coronavirus Seriously.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are self-isolating in Canada, as Meghan confides in friends that Harry feels ‘helpless’ and is ‘concerned’ about the Queen and his father Prince Charles catching coronavirus, a close friend exclusively told DailyMail.com.

‘Meghan said they are grateful, especially Harry, that they could spend time with his family before all this insanity began,’ the insider explained. ‘Meghan said [Harry] has been in contact with both his father and grandmother. He urged them to stay safe and to take extra precautions.’

The Duchess of Sussex is also taking steps to protect her family, requiring ‘everyone on their team, the people who buy groceries and run errands, to wear latex gloves at all times and are to follow a strict hygiene protocol’, the source said. ‘Only a select few will be able to interact with her, Harry and Archie. She said she’s keeping it to a bare minimum,’ the friend added.

But while holed up at their Vancouver Island waterfront mansion, Meghan and Harry are working with experts on how to best serve the public during this time, believing the pandemic is also a mental health crisis and feel ‘compelled to help’. The friend added: ‘Meghan said just because they are isolating themselves, it doesn’t mean they can’t help. They aren’t just sitting around at home doing nothing. Meghan told her inner circle that what’s happening in the world right now is a mental health crisis. She said they are working with a mental health non-profit to create some sort of online support system for those most vulnerable, like new mothers suffering from postpartum depression. People who lack support systems need reassurance that they are not alone.’

Upon being back in Canada, the close friend said Meghan admitted that Harry ‘feels a bit helpless and isolated out in the middle of nowhere, but is grateful that they are all together as a family.’ The friend also revealed Meghan has concerns about coronavirus but ‘she’s been diligent about not touching her face and washing her hands. She said panicking won’t do any good. It’s just not an option in her household. She doesn’t want Archie picking up on any unnecessary stress and tension. Her home is her sanctuary and it’s a place of peace and calm.’

[From The Daily Mail]

The latex glove detail was added to rile up DM readership, you know. They wanted Meghan to sound like a “mean boss” who dictates surgical-conditions for her home. As for the rest of it… I mean, yes, it just sounds perfectly reasonable. Of course they’re taking precautions and self-isolating.

Under the circumstances and and the crappy way BoJo has handled the pandemic in the UK I don’t blame them. The queen and Charles are taking steps. No word on what the Cambridges are doing since their kids go to a school where four kids may have been exposed. BTW Meghan’s scummy half brother is whiny to the press that Meghan should let their “dying” father see Archie. If Bad Dad is dying that means he is at a higher risk of catching coronavirus . These losers prove again they don’t care about about Archie; they want a photo op to sell to the tabloids.

    • Again, I don’t believe one single word of the DM story. It’s another of those click stories that anyone can make up. Of course the Sussexes are taking it seriously and using the same precautions we all are using. But I won’t believe that any friends or source —- so deeply involved in the minutia of their daily lives and emotions would have to be living in home to know that level of detail —- would be sharing any details about how they’re feeling or specifically what they are doing to the DM of all places. And, I agree, Kaiser —- the DM once again portrays poor little scared Helpless Harry stuck in the big bad wild woods with Nurse Ratchet Meghan controlling everything with her bossy little orders and nasty gloves. The DM just won’t stop at anything! I refuse to debate what they are or aren’t doing based on a DM piece of fiction. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Totally thread jacking, but I want it to be up as high as possible: The Daily Mail is forcing workers to come to their New York office during the pandemic. I assume it’s the same in London. They have no right, not right at all, to lecture others about how to behave in a pandemic.

  2. Seraphina says:

Meghan is damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t. She is taking necessary precautions, as we all should. Latex gloves are being used in Italy when handling groceries coming into the houses.

I agree Kaiser, we have been exposed to this and may not know it. The fact that we may have it and be asymptotic throws a wild card into this equation. I went to the doctor last week. Tested negative for flu and was told I could go back to work. But since the test didn’t test for corona virus, I could have gone and infected others. Just sucks all the way around.

    • (TheOG) jan90067 says:

I’m also using gloves to receive any deliveries, putting them down on a towel in the hallway first, then wiping them down with a bleach/water mixture, then opening it, taking items to the sink (still in gloves) to wash the cans/plastics/coverings with soapy water ( 20 secs for each piece, yes, this takes time lol). They dry a bit on another towel, and then I dry it with a fresh paper towel before putting away. Then I put the towels in a bag until I have enough to do a hot anti-bacterial wash. Rinse, repeat.

I felt “extreme” at first, but I don’t want to take chances, as doctors say that the virus can live on paper and cardboard for up to 48 hrs., and on plastics and hard surfaces for up to 9 days!

    • NeoCleo says:

I have come across numerous instances in the food and retail services over the last days where staff have worn gloves.

  3. Belli says:

You’re right, the DM included the part about gloves to role up their readership about “controlling dictator” Meghan, but if true it sounds very sensible. If I had gloves, I’d be using them!

And if it’s true, the part about helping mental health charities and mums with PPD from home is lovely. That’ll rule up certain other people who consider that “their” cause though…! 😉

It’s the DM, so I’m taking it all with buckets of salt. If true though, they need to do something about that leak.

  4. BabsORIG says:

As always, the Fail just continue to pull stuff out of their butt and throwng it out there with wild claims that it’s Meghan’s friends yadda yadda. 🙄🙄🙄🙄. No one from Meghan’s camp is speaking to the Fail, this is all made up, period. I believe the HB article, we all worldwide are taking precautions, not just the Sussexes. Why the BM chooses to make this pandemic all about the Sussexes is beyond me. Again, big eyeroll.

  5. Erinn says:

“feels a bit helpless and isolated out in the middle of nowhere”

Come on DM. IF (and we know the chances are incredibly slim. And if someone did speak to them, it was an acquantence at best ) the friend said that, it’s not even close to reality. Let’s not pretend a mansion on Vancouver Island is out in the middle of nowhere. Certainly no more isolated than palace grounds would have been. It’s like they don’t even TRY to make up believable lies anymore. I mean, it’s nice in a way that it’s SO obvious what the intention is… but at the same time it’s sort of a case of “that’s all you’ve got?”

    • Redgrl says:

@erinn – ha! That was my thought too -while many parts of Vancouver Island are fairly remote, where they are is not. Just goes to show the DM whipping up their xenophobic colonialist base.

    • BabsORIG says:

It seems like everyone at the Fail is that ignorant. Just because you know nothing about Canada or can’t think beyond yr little island borders don’t translate into Canada is a wilderness.

    • Mtec says:

      @ Erinn
Haha, I think the DM knows exactly who their audience is and to them the clear intent of this article will probably go right over their heads.

All they’ll take away from it is that SHE dares to live in a mansion, that SHE has people to do her shopping and bidding, that SHE is the one keeping the peasants away from her family, and that SHE is basically the drill sergeant in her home with her demands and her latex gloves sitting around her mansion “doing nothing.”

And I emphasize “she” because of the continuous thinly-veiled sexist references these DM pieces loves to include to make Meghan the responsible/culpable party in everything and Harry (and Archie), the royal family, her unhinged estranged family, always the victims of her doing.

I’m honestly so tired of these.

      • BayTampaBay says:

I am tried of all this too!

We really need a good update on “Rose Who?”! LOL! LOL!

    • Charfromdarock says:

The people who think it’s the middle of nowhere are the one’s whose ancestors thought the entire continent was a tabular rasa just waiting for the Englishmen.

      It’s hardly a surprise.

    • Nic919 says:

That’s pretty xenophobic on the part of DM but what else is new. Also Canada has taken this far more seriously than the UK. Our schools have been closed for days now and several provinces have declared states of emergency. Meanwhile the UK has far more cases and far more deaths and they have way less space on that island of theirs compared to Canada.

Harry and Meghan are way better off in Canada than the UK right now.

    • buenavissta says:

My friend lives around the corner from them but I can only see her once a year as it is an epic trek via ice roads and dog sled.
      Ignorant morons.

  6. JaneDoesWork says:

I actually believe that this is hard for Harry. A global pandemic targeting the old is probably his worst nightmare right now, and I’m sure he’s worried about his father and grandmother. I don’t think when he left England he imagined where the world would be just a few days later.

If something happens to the Queen or his dad I think Harry will feel guilty for the rest of his life (even though he has nothing to feel guilty for) for not being there. I have a very toxic relationship with members of my family, but I’m still incredibly worried about them and when I found out that they may have been exposed (turned out to be a false alarm) I felt extremely guilty and helpless being 5 states away.

The rest is crap, though. They’re trying to make Meghan this villain for following health guidelines during a pandemic. Sorry she isn’t playing fast and loose with a contagious virus, you idiots.

    • La says:

“Sorry she isn’t playing fast and loose with a contagious virus, you idiots”

I’d bet there is a fair amount of overlap between the “Meghan is evil” contingent and people who think Covid-19 is overblown and no big deal.

      • JaneDoesWork says:

Great point! As someone who lives in DC less than a mile from the Capitol, where basically everything is shutdown, it has been astonishing to me to see members of the Firm out and about running errands and conducting events.

    • Tessa says:

The Queen and Charles should not have allowed it to get that far and should have read the riot act to William and Kate. for their behavior. Then I think Harry and Meghan would have stayed on.

    • SomeChick says:

You have nothing to feel guilty over!

Worrying is one thing, but how is this your fault?

      FaceTime them.

  7. Sofia says:

This just seems like an attempt to write about the Sussexes by any means necessary

Isn’t everyone taking precautions now? I don’t see how/why the Sussexes would be any different

  8. maggi says:

That’s funny, I wonder who specified “latex gloves”. Latex has long been identified as a pathological substance causing immune problems in 10% of the general population and 20% of healthcare workers. Latex products have subsequently been phased out of existence.
Small details making my bullshit meter go bingbing.

    • Lady D says:

I really doubt that DM reporters(ha) have the intelligence level to understand words like pathological substance. It’s probably the only form of plastic glove they know of.

  9. Lowrider says:

The DM moved from “palace sources“ to “Meghan friends“.

  10. May says:

Totally unrelated to the gossip, but don’t rely on gloves! All experts advise to wash your hands and don’t touch your face. Gloves can actually be counterproductive, because it means that you are not actually washing your hands (and of course, if you touch your face with the gloves the point is moot).

  11. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

If any of this crap is true, good for Meghan. She’s responsible, she’s taking precautions. And??
You can take all the precautions in the world, however, but they come to naught when there’s just one cougher. I had to wait for a blood test at the local hospital, behind a man who coughed, and coughed. Woke up this morning with a sore throat and a little cough of my own. The cough is getting worse, my throat is full of knives, and my temp is 100. I’m immune compromised and have a heart condition, so I’m pretty scared. Could those Bitchies who do pray send a little one my way?

    • Carmen says:

Get to a doctor ASAP. It could be the flu or a bad cold but a test will let you know for certain. Hang in there and good luck to you.

I’m gonna put this phone down right now and pray for you. Please call a tele doctor if you have access to one or just your regular doctor and find out what your resources are. Everything is so changed where I live i don’t know my current options, myself. If you can, keep us posted.

    • Lady D says:

You’re Canadian right, Andrew’s Nemesis? You can dial the emergency help number 811 and they will be able to give you all the information you need. I wish you the best.

Andrew’s Nemesis sending you blessings and reiki healing, I pray you haven’t picked up this virus.
Like you, my immune system is down after hospital treatment and I am terrified of catching this disease. I live with 2 brothers who do not practice basic hygiene and one now has a cough and as I type the other has the sniffles and is sneezing. I have to wash everything down with bleach every evening and I’m hoping to move to a new home v soon!

    • Prayer Warrior says:

you got it, Andrew’s Nemesis….take good care

@Andrew’sNemesis, prayers ascending that you recover quickly and that it isn’t covid-19. 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️

  12. A Guest says:

There is a new post on the Sussex instagram today talking about compassion and community. The first response is completely unhinged. I stopped reading.

Notice that poor Harry “feels helpless” while Meghan is portrayed as the one in charge.

If something happens to the Queen or Prince Charles or anyone in the BRF, the sh*tstorm against the Sussex’s will be vile.

  13. Jaded says:

Another article from the fail that we can use for toilet paper when we run out. Don’t use latex gloves, they can cause allergic reactions and a false sense of security. I’m on Vancouver Island and we’ve just had an explosive # of cases so here’s what I do:

    1. Keep lysol wipes in the car and every time you have to drive wipe down door handles, steering wheel, dashboard, radio knob, EVERYTHING you touch.
    2. Keep hand sanitizer in the car and rub your hands with it before you get out of the car.
    3. Carry a purse or pockets size of sanitizer with you into stores and rub your hands with it every time you pick something up to buy.
    4. Wipe down cart handles before before you start shopping..
    5. Wipe down all cans and bottles with lysol wipes before opening.
    6. When you get home fill your sink with cold water and add 4 tbsps of baking soda and a cup of white vinegar. Let fruits and vegetables soak for 15-20 minutes. Wipe fridge/freezer door handles as well as cupboard handles after storing food.
    7. When you return home wipe down door handles outside and in with lysol wipes, wipe off your keys, purse handles and wallet. Try, if possible, not to use paper money as it is loaded with bacterial. Wipe off credit and debit cards, and last but not least wash your hands.

Yes it’s a bit time consuming but I’d rather do that than get sick.

    Stay well CBers!!

    • Dara says:

1a. Don’t forget your keys and seat belt buckle! We handle both so often we don’t even remember doing it.

  14. Lisa says:

Why does the DM go after her so viciously and relentlessly?

    • MsIam says:

Answers: a. For money. b. To break her/them so Meghan will drop the lawsuit. Rupert Murdoch and Co. are totally vile so that is how they roll.

    • Lady D says:

I read an article that stated under British law, victims aka Meghan, are entitled to 1/4 of profits made from her and according to the author that would amount to about $250million for her. They don’t want to pay and they really don’t want to admit they lied. If the Susssex’s win this lawsuit, they will be able to afford their own security compliments of the DM:)

  15. Amelie says:

I’ve been wearing gloves (not the latex kind) every time I go out to the grocery store! People stare at me like I’m a weirdo but I don’t care. My family’s been wiping down the kitchen counter/table every night with Lysol spray. We do what we can and probably could do more but we don’t have an unlimited amount of Clorox/Lysol wipes, everything’s sold out around here.

  16. yinyang says:

Harry and Meghan are such a cute and humble couple, like they were made for eachother. They can do whatever they want, they’re no longer at the mercy of the British public funds, that’s whats great about being free! BTW I know this article is all made up bullshit but incase Meghan keep your group of close friends small please, a lot of bitter people out there.

  17. Awkward symphony says:

THIS is how you do it! I cant believe lizzy and chuck haven’t said anything yet. Normalbill’s last minute clip(posted 2hrs after the Sussexs post) of raising funds for his trust was bland as usual but it at least directed people to help others.
I predict that KP/BP/CH will post something about this or make a joint visit to a recovery centre soon to counter the Sussex’s upcoming posts.
