Over the past several days, there are growing numbers of stories about people who have been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus and, sadly, people who have passed away after becoming infected. We knew this was going to happen, but I’m still having trouble wrapping my brain around it. We’ve had some more positive news as Sophie Trudeau, Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks, Prince Albert and Prince Charles are doing well, among others. But now I start each day wondering who is going to get sick next. Will it be someone I know? Will it be someone famous?
My heart fell into my stomach when I saw that CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, has tested positive for coronavirus. He made the announcement on Twitter Tuesday that he had tested positive and was going to be anchoring from his basement. He was last at work on Friday and was at home Monday, where he interviewed his brother remotely.

Chris’s good friend and colleague Don Lemon got emotional on-air when talking about Chris.
Chris is still working hard from his basement. Last night on Cuomo Prime Time, he shared the news that his wife and children got tested and don’t have the virus. His relief and joy were palpable. While talking with Dr. Sanjay Gupta about how he’s feeling (yesterday worse than the day before), he got a call from Andrew, and said he’d call him back.

Andrew and Chris are two of the five children of Matilda and the late Mario Cuomo, who served three terms as the governor of New York from 1983 until 1994. The two brothers enjoy teasing each other, as is evident in this clip of a chat on Tuesday night.
Here’s part of the interview between the brothers on Monday:
Chris’ concern for Andrew’s wellbeing as both his brother and his governor is moving. I was thinking something similar the other day about both Andrew Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio of New York City, both of whom are delivering honest briefings without any theatricality. They’re taking this crisis seriously, and I feel better when I listen to them. Last week, Business Insider conducted a poll that found that Dr. Fauci and Andrew Cuomo are the two most trusted leaders in the U.S. on the coronavirus. A certain orange baby is not.
Here’s video of Andrew talking about Chris’ diagnosis on Tuesday. Andrew takes some gentle swipes at his brother, but it’s evident how much he loves Chris, his “best friend”:
On Wednesday, Andrew talked about being “frightened” by Chris’diagnosis.
He also said that he sent Chris a book on striped-bass fishing. He praised Chris as “gutsy” and “courageous,” and said that they talked about Chris being ill and decided that he could let people see what it’s like to live with coronavirus. He told Chris “I love you, little brother.” He also commented on the still photo that was being shown of Chris on-screen, in which his mouth is open mid-sentence, saying that he “didn’t pick it,” and that it’s not “flattering,” but, “It is suitable, in some ways.” The second I saw it, I thought that Chris’ colleagues at CNN are lovingly trolling him, as is Andrew, every time he mentions that “Chris is in his basement.” I’d love to watch Chris and Andrew chat more.
Andrew Cuomo is my new boyfriend. My husband doesn’t have a clue. Watching him on tv is the highlight of my day. I hope his little brother recovers soon. He really is a meatball.
Same here – and my mother’s too, lol.
And love Chris too, watch him every night and enjoy the exchange between him and D Lemon after his show into Don’s show.
Love him and ‘D-Lemon’ together
Since we don’t have a President in Washington I now think of Andrew as President Cuomo.
Yes! You could really hear the concern in Andrew when he announced that Chris’s had tested positive. I’ve been watching him and he never really stumbles or pauses and he did a lot of that when he was talking about Chris. You can really see the love he has for him.
Lol, you are not alone, my friends are fighting over him. One loves Chris (as do I) but the others are all in for Andrew. Even my mom, who isn’t a Democrat (although she hates Trump) and doesn’t like New York, seems to have developed a big soft spot for him.
I think he’s become America’s New Boyfriend. And possibly President, lol.
I think he’s become America’s New Boyfriend. And possibly President, lol.
Yep, I’m in for both lol.
I love him, watch him every night…it appears that he is doing well through this, holding my breath for the next 12 days or so for him.
I got hooked watching CNN when we were in the US 2 years ago for our honeymoon (feels like a lifetime ago now). My husband loves Don and I love Chris (and Jake Tapper).
I watch it a lot now from here in Australia and was so upset when I read about Chris. The love between him and Andrew is so sweet and I love that they’re not afraid to show it.
I can’t even fathom what Andrew is going through. Watching NY experience this horror is heartbreaking. Things aren’t great here either, but we aren’t anywhere near where the US is right now. I wish you all the very best from the bottom of my heart. I can’t wait ‘til the day we can all look back and think ‘wow we actually got through that’! Oh and there’s a flippin’ new President!!!!
Did you see Anderson Cooper’s show last night? He interviewed a Democrat rep from Tennessee that went OFF on the governor for failing to issue a stay at home order because he’s afraid of “restricting personal liberty and freedom.” Dude straight up said these people that want to control women’s bodies and deny rights to minorities and LGBTQ people are suddenly worried about personal freedom?! It was glorious! I was clapping and shouting. (I live in TN)
I’m surprised that with an official diagnosis & dealing with the symptoms he described, he is still actually working. Obviously his choice, but where should employers draw the line? It’s one thing to film a show or report from home when you’re choosing to self-isolate but are well (as many have) but if there ever was a valid excuse to call in sick, this is it.
Yeah he was talking about fever “rigors” which I had to look up and really intense hallucinations/dreams! It sounded pretty horrifying. So far no one who has been diagnosed with coronavirus has described it that way (that I’ve heard).
Chris and Andrew ‘going at it’ really is a highlight everytime they are on the air together.
And I think Chris is Mom’s favorite.
Not her ‘second favorite son’? (Out of two) they were joking about that awhile ago. 🙂
In my opinion, Chris is certainly Matilda’s favorite male child but according to his big brother, he’s the “meatball of the family and not as strong as he thinks he is”…lol. I love them. Get well Chris…you’re one of the true journalists out there!
I never put it together that these two are related! I guess this explains why Republicans are always taking shots at Chris. He’s on CNN AND Andrew Cuomo’s brother
I love watching the two brothers. And cuomo is one of my favorite shows. I’m glad he decided to keep hosting. But his first night sounds like a nightmare. He shivered so hard he chipped a tooth and was hallucinating. But he says it’s a good chance to use a platform to show an example of living with the virus.
How come his family could get tested and they aren’t sick? In fact how come chris could get tested – cos I hear from friends who definitely have it that they are being refused tests unless they can’t breathe…
I was wondering that too. Nurses and doctors can’t even get tested!!
Chris explained that he had symptoms and that’s why he got tested. I think NY is ramping up the testing process so they are trying to test the people who came in contact with people who tested positive but he was the first one to acknowledge that not everyone has access to testing and that it’s extremely problematic to say the least. I will not be naive enough to not assume that he might have had access….
Um. He has been sharing his symptoms. So clearly there was a reason he was tested. And if the idea is to stop the spread then as Andy says you test as much as you can and identify the spreaders.
Look it up hun, people with symptoms are being refused testing unless they are vulnerable and can’t breathe. There are still testing shortages.
So, it would probably be helpful to test the doctors and nurses on the front lines, right? The ones exposed day in and day out to the virus. But that ain’t happening. But for sure, let’s use some tests on his asymptomatic family that lives upstairs. Plus, he’s so cute, so yeah!
I love Chris… he’s beautiful, intelligent, a real man. I try not to miss Cuomo Primetime, ever! I really hope he can beat this and it doesn’t get worse for him. I’m assuming they put him on the medications that have been doctors have been talking about, hydroxychloroquine? Well, I just hope he gets better! I love watching him interview his brother 🙂
Too bad not many knew how wonderful Andrew was until recently. He should have ran against Trump for President, but it’s too late now!
I love Chris and Andrew’s relationship so much. Seeing them “go at it” during all this has given me a good laugh which is much needed these days. I hope Chris continues to get better and I’m glad his family tested negative cause I know that’s what he was really worried about.
In normal times I don’t like either of them much, but I absolutely have to give Andrew Cuomo all the credit for how he’s been handling things and for his clear and informative press conferences. I don’t think you can oversell how important clear communication with the public is during a time like this.
But even when I don’t appreciate them individually, together they have always been comedy gold. The Daily Show even did a segment on them several years ago. http://www.cc.com/video-clips/ros7v7/the-daily-show-with-jon-stewart-the-hurt-brother
I love them together, but Chris is my fave. Get well soon my tv crush!
CNN is Fox News for establishment Democrats. They’re a bunch of multi millionaires paid by billionaires to lie to ordinary Americans.
Yes, Fox News does lie to ordinary Americans. 100%.
As does CNN.
