It took about four weeks for the Windsors to “reboot” in the face of a pandemic which left them all isolated in their various castles, country homes and palaces. The Queen agreed to a public statement way too late in the crisis, Charles and Camilla were in quarantine in Scotland, William and Kate spent weeks pushing stories about how they were basically king and queen already, and the rest of them… well, they tried. Finally, Will & Kate got with the program and understood that they really could “work from home” and do Zoom calls and all of that. I’ve found their efforts rather basic but of course they’re being universally praised, as always, for doing the bare minimum. Still, that’s the name of the royal game and the Queen is reportedly “delighted” with what the Cambridges have been doing:
The Queen is said to be “delighted” with how Kate Middleton and Prince William have supported frontline workers amid the coronavirus pandemic. Her Majesty is reportedly pleased at their efforts, especially given the nationwide lockdown. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have kept busy in self-isolation, and have recently launched a mental health scheme to help struggling Brits. They have also done video calls with volunteers, frontline staff and key worker children, donated to Captain Tom Moore’s fundraiser, and Kate has written to staff at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk, the monarch will be “delighted” with how Kate and William have been doing. He added that following a difficult 16 months, which has seen Prince Harry and Meghan Markle step down as senior royals, the Queen will also be glad to have Prince Philip by her side.
He added: “With a select staff including her senior dresser and confidante Angela Kelly, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are in virtual self-isolation at Windsor. The presence of the Duke will undoubtedly be of considerable comfort to the Queen during this unprecedented period of emergency. After what has been a particularly difficult period for the monarchy it has been clear that it is a uniquely unifying force in times of trouble.”
Considering the Queen and Philip were absolutely living separate lives for the past two years – reportedly barely even seeing each other on a regular basis – I do wonder how much comfort Philip’s presence really has been for the Queen. If anything, I would suspect that she’s not all that happy about it. As for the Queen’s alleged delight… I don’t know. I suspect that there were some calls made between the various households, especially when William began pushing those “coronavirus regency” stories. The Queen and Charles both want the Cambridges to know their place, more than anything else. Anyway, the Queen *should* be delighted with the Cambridges because that’s the f–king deal she and her courtiers made. They put their money on Will & Kate and agreed to exile the Sussexes. W&K wanted to be the only game in town. Now they are. And so this is what we get.

With the exception of Andrew, when I read how the Queen feels I rationalize it as “Queen” = courtiers. The courtiers are happy with the work W&K are doing. The ship is (apparently) steady now that Harry and Meghan are gone.

Richard Palmer tweeted that Sophie’s work at the food banks is being done “ in her spare time” and thus won’t be included in the court circular. Basically confirms that the Cambridges won’t be leaving their home for anything and anything Sophie or others do beyond remote work won’t be counted to make the lazy ones look good.
Too funny. Even someone like Sophie can’t be allowed to look better than the do-nothings of Norfolk. I’d say W&K should be embarrassed by how much basically ever other royal on the continent and beyond is doing compared to them. But then again, I doubt shame is much of a concept for these idiots.

IKR. It struck me as both funny and disingenuous that she pulled the pregnancy card. Girlfriend needs to calm down; all that negative emotion over some gossip can’t be good for the ‘baby’.

@Suzy. Am Canadian, so they are only partly my royal family. Can’t say am too impressed with them. They are expensive and basically want a cookie for every half hearted thing that they do. There doesn’t seem to be much value for the money…and please please please spare me the usual argument about what a bargain they are per British Citizen. I can understand even having a Royal Family that is not tied to politics. Just not very impressed with the house of Windsor. There have been some decent examples, but even they want more praise than they really deserve. It’s a pity as at times have had high.hopes for them. Now it seems to be a good day if they merely rise above being mediocre.

I don’t think The Queen leaves any doubt about who is in charge. The woman has run this family and organization sixty years or so. No one, including Princes’ Charles, Willliam, or Harry is going to dictate what happens in the Monarchy except her. I think she does consult more often with Charles now but, even then, ultimately she will make decisions.
I don’t think that she chose between her grandsons either. I think that she loves both of them and was, perhaps, closer to Harry at one time. The Queen still has left a door open for the Sussexs return. I don’t think they want to or will but I think The Queen wants them to come back.
I don’t understand the notion that the Cambridges forced the Sussexs out. They do not have the power. Just like this story notes, they are not King and Queen. It isn’t required for these Two families to like one another. It would be nice but unnecessary. Two or three major things I think made The Sussex decide to leave. One is simply the press. Those a-holes always pit people against each other especially women for funsies. Moreover, although Meghan got tons of support from the people, many publications, and many t.v. hosts, some of the Daily Mail coverage was horrible including anything to do with her family which was clickbait. The second thing is lack of autonomy. Now this could conceivably be said to because of William but I just don’t think that he has that sway. The Queen just wasn’t prepared to let them have their own court that was not under the auspices of Buckingham Palace. Was that not to “outshine” the Cambridges? I don’t know but it seems more likely that as a couple they were an unknown quantity that she felt needed guidance on how she wanted things done. I can see where that rankled but I believe it is her standard operating procedure. Third, I really think Meghan missed her homeland, her career, and not having to run decisions past anyone for approval. As a successful woman at nearly 40, I’m not surprised that she tired of that quickly. That isn’t a criticism at all because I would feel this way too.
I think there are definate issues between the Cambridges and Sussexs. I believe some to be work-related and some personality clashes. Sometimes people don’t get along with each other. They don’t gel. Also, fights between siblings are one thing but when spouses get involved it takes on a completely different, and sometimes unforgivable, tone. It’s unfortunate.
I don’t disagree that the Queen let the Cambridges power trip over the Sussexes, same as Charles and just as they are doing to the Wessexes, especially Sophie. The Queen lives for hierarchy as it’s what gave her the position she has.
That said, the Cambridges didn’t need to do a lot of things the way they did and they look insecure and pathetic to anyone but the most staunch royalists. Birth order is meaningless to most normal people and it is what people say or do that matter. The Cambridges live in a bubble where the RRs embiggen their most paltry efforts to uphold an archaic out of touch system. And since they aren’t putting in even the most minimal work nor are they showing any leadership skills, it will bite them later on. Many point to the Queen being hands on during the war and that gives her credibility decades later. William did a few zoom calls, despite being physically able to help much more. It will not serve him well in the years to come.
It’s more so to do with future “sway” as you put it. They will be King and Queen. Not Harry and Meghan. And the job of the courtiers and the people who work for The Crown is to ensure it continues – irregardless of who’s head it falls on. So that means making sure the Cambridges are seen as #1 and everyone else has lagging miles behind them. However as you put it, Meghan had lots of people supporting her. And she had a lot more charisma than Kate and she put in more effort in her work than Kate.
If Meghan outshines Kate now, not really a big deal because the Cambridges aren’t King and Queen yet. But what happens in 30 years when they’re sitting on the throne? Can’t have the sister-in-law of the Queen have MORE charisma and personality than the Queen can you? The Cambridges shouldn’t need to worry because the top job is theirs no matter what but I supposed they feared if the Sussexes became too popular and likeable calls would start on “skipping” the Crown over to them instead of the Cambridges – like people do with Charles and William. (Nevermind that’s not how it all works but it still wouldn’t stop people just like it doesn’t stop people now)
And it’s better to get out now rather than later. William doesn’t hold the purse strings now but he will in the future. And getting out while they might still need some money may be a lot difficult under William compared to Charles.

I actually think Charlotte is the one with more charisma and I suspect we shall see another round of heir v spare between her and George. The heir being protected and the spare being the target. Unless the tabloid media is controlled, they will do what they have done for generations.
The Queen I think just ignored the bad relationship between her grandsons maybe hoping it would go away. I think had she dealt with it earlier on and firmly, Harry and Meghan would not have left. I think she just did not bother and allowed William to try to order his brother around. I don’t know how the Queen just let William treat Meghan coldly and glare at his brother. That I found totally disgraceful. It’s only when things get out of control she acts and it’s too late. Kate supposedly as a commoner would not put on airs. But I think she did with Meghan. I highly doubt the queen had anything to do with this. I’m currently reading the ‘Diana’ book and it describes how she never once received any recognition or a pat on the back that she was doing a good job, not once from no one. All she wanted was a bit of validation. We all know the better Diana was at the job, the more hate she got from the inside, same with Meghan and Harry.
At the end of the day the queen will never really praise anyone.
That is so sad to hear what Diana said about not getting any validation, notwithstanding her hard and impactful work, because Meghan said basically the same thing in her Africa interview. Validation and praise are important forms of support. It says: I see you and appreciate what you are doing …you matter. How sad
In the book it also describes Diana’s frustration at not being allowed to grow and do anything worthy of praise, she hated just being praised for standing there and wearing nice clothes and not for anything she achieved. The sad thing is when I read that I thought of kate and how much she loves being praised for doing nothing but standing like a statue in a nice dress.
It really rankles the powers that be that Meghan gets her props from the Squad – Meghan, Harry and King Archie! Our Global Baby Shower, tree planting initiative, support of the cookbook, Invictus, etc as well as the emergence of several podcasts and blog forums, give the Sussexes multiple platforms that recognize their excellence and publicize it globally. None of the other Windsors have inspired that kind of loyalty that doesn’t just talk the talk but walks the walk with financial support that is measurably significant.
Allow me to put on my pedant pants for a moment (pedpants??), and point out an interesting phrasing of the statement. Fitzwilliam’s said, “(QEII) will be delighted…” Not that she IS delighted, or HAS BEEN delighted, but she WILL BE delighted. Maybe this is a difference within UK and American English, but it is odd to me that he is expressing her future delight.

When you look at the original statements around which these types of articles are written, you will find that they are usually speculative. You are right, in this case the RR is speculating that the Queen will be happy about the Cambridges WHEN she hears about their work. Most of what the RRs spout is pulled out of their a$#es.

The PR work on Twitter; Facebook and Instagram has gone into overdrive the past few days and I have never seen so many posts in one day from the three senior royal’s accounts. Prince Philip even issued a statement. The relevance of the monarchy has come under some scrutiny during this lockdown and the royal machine is pushing back.

Hi, Celebitchy reader and lurker here since 2012 here. This will be my first and last to comment on this site as I am very shy even in the world wide web. But with everything that is going on in the world, and as a nurse, I feel like I just need to get this off my chest.
All of us healthcare workers are grateful and very appreciative of the clapping as a way to show support for us. Thank you!
But, to be honest, we need more than just the clapping. I seriously wish people with influence like the Cambridges would actively work on helping the healthcare workers get PPE to ensure their safety. Are they not allowed to donate? I don’t feel like they are making enough effort. I don’t understand how some people (well they have a lot of fans) think that their clapping with their children is like a heroic act.
I am a nurse working here in the Middle East, we are still lucky with our PPEs as the government ensured that we are protected. But I have friends who are working in the UK with NHS and I cry reading their messages about the lack of PPEs and the management is different there about when to wear PPE.
I know their focus with their foundation is Mental Health which is also good. But I still feel like it’s not 100 percent enough. James McAvoy is doing a better job about supporting the NHS healthcare workers.
If a member of a Swedish royal family can volunteer a few hours doing non clinical work in the hospital, maybe Kate and William can do the same.
Thank you for the essential work that you do. It is a twisted world where the privileged know nothings get the attention and praise for doing less than the minimum whereas the nurses and other health care workers who risk their lives everyday and don’t get the concrete help that they need. This pandemic has brought to attention who and what jobs are actually essential and which ones aren’t. And the sad fact Is that most in the essential jobs are not paid well, do not have the equipment they need to be safe and have to struggle for help.
Clapping is not enough, especially not for the privileged ones who can afford to do more. The real heroes are people like you and not the ones who film themselves clapping.

How will they survive without this constant PR exercise when she dies?!! They are now solely hyped either for child rearing or some fake praise for things they never did. I noticed that William had some connection with Centrepoint recently. When asked to comment on the letter sent by Prince Harry to the 4 tabloids,BP issued a statement by Prince Philip praising the NHS workers. Is it an indication that although retired he remains the head of the family while the Queen is indeed the monarch. Has Prince William returned to work for the Tories? Is it safe to assume that the plan to hand over more responsibilities to the “young royals” has ceased?
Why shouldn’t the Queen be delighted? They are with her and with their country in this moment of need and they are doing their work very well. There are mllions of people doing their work at home using the technology. They are doing the same.
