Cara Delevingne turned 28 on Wednesday, which she used to promote ocean clean up. Like all popular supermodels, everyone who’s anyone in nepotistic fashion wished her many happy returns. Among them were her very good friends and potential Lockdown Roomies, Margaret and Rainey Qualley and Kaia Gerber. Since Cara and Ashley Benson spilt back in April, Cara has been leaning hard on her friends, particularly Kaia, who attended the LA protests with her and shared the cardigan Taylor Swift sent them (the header photo). Apparently, they have become “matching tattoo” close. Not just any matching tattoos, but clever play on words matching tattoos.

Delevingne rang in her 28th birthday on Wednesday, and her friend and fellow supermodel Kaia Gerber wished her a happy day on Instagram — revealing they have matching tattoos on their feet.
“Happy birthday to my solemate @caradelevingne,” Gerber, 18, wrote atop a photo of the friends hugging feet.
Sharing several more photos of the Carnival Row actress, Gerber shared some more tributes, writing, “the only person who wears my face on a sweatshirt,” and “the best protest buddy,” and atop a video of the duo dancing, “coolest guys at the function.”
Included in the photos was a snapshot of the models’ feet, showing tattoos of the word “solemate” along each woman’s arch of her foot.
I actually thought they were dating, which I’ll admit made me slightly uncomfortable given that Kaia is just 18. But in reading for this post, I don’t see that they have ever said that so perhaps they’re just friends. They do have a lot in common as they’re both models and they come from money. As far as getting matching tattoos, they’re cute and work independent of each other so I’m for it. There’s more chance of your friend relationship working out so it’s a safer bet to sync up friend tattoos. Then again, Cara and Ashley Benson got matching tattoos too.
I have to admit, I am far more curious about Margaret Qualley and Kaia Gerber’s friendship. Like, did Pete Davidson introduce them or did they seek each other out as some kind of Pete Davidson’s Ex Support Group? Now that’s the IG story I want to see posted.

I was also wondering why we don’t hear about CAKE anymore. A Google search says there was a falling out after Kris wanted to trademark ‘CaKe by Kendall and Cara’, putting her daughter’s name first.

Cara is 28 years old and Kaia is 18, young and easily influenced at that age. This reads trouble to me. Cara has 10 more years of experience, less professionally “relevant” than she was. somebody seems to be getting used here. If my 18 yo daughter was hanging out with an almost 30 yo, i would question the intentions the same way if Cara was a man.

A lot of things could be going on here. It could be, like you said with Cara taking advantage. However, something about the way Kaia and her brother’s behavior tells me that all was probably more to it. Her going into runway modeling so young (14!) and being way too thin (she’s admitted to yo-yo dieting, not an actual disorder, but clearly she was too thin to be healthy at times). Cara and Kaia probably have a lot more in common than people think. They’ve never said they were dating.

It’s not the age difference that is weird to me. It’s just that Kaia is so young and Cara is a grown woman coming out of a relationship.

Yes, Kaia has really just been thrust right into the thick of life with very little protection, especially in this age of intense media exposure. There was also her romance with the guy from SNL, who is troubled AND much older.

I think it’s strange for a 28 year old to even be platonic with an 18 year old. The maturity difference should be quite expansive. But Hollywood and the world of modeling is weird; maybe they have a lot in common despite the age difference.
It could easily be a friendship/mentorship… through my work (working with people a decade younger than me) I have a lot of genuine friends far younger than me… though I do see myself as a big sister/mentor type friend to these younger ones, due to that age/life experience difference.
Just as I have friends 10 years older than me.

I’ve never been like that with any of my girlfriends ever. I haven’t seen any other straight women that I know like that either. I’m not against their relationship but it looks intimate to me. In one photo they are in the same sweater.
Is it weird? Kaia has grown up in the industry and been surrounded by people older than her and older than Cara most of her life. Since my early 20s I’ve had close friendships with a number of women older than me, nothing sexual at all. I dunno, all the suspicion here strikes me as a bit bi-phobic, as if Cara couldn’t possibly have a close friendship with a young woman without it being sexual or predatory.
I thought about it being Hollywood, but hollywood people are just regulars and hollywood people can be ambitious and unauthentic. Then I thought maybe we were being bi-phobic, but I dont think i’m being anything phobic. In trying to protect Kaia who is so young, i’d have the same thinking had it been a 28 year old man, or a 28 years old alien from Neptune. A 28 year old women friendshipping an 18 year old is not bad, it’s great to have like a “mentor” thing going on, but the tatoo, the “solemate” meaning, etc etc when we know that Kaia was going through rough times/might be more fragile, doesnt seem like a sister/sister thing to me. It’s too much. They dont have my seal of approval, but who needs approval?
They are definitely dating, look at the body language. They are both legal adults and no surprise babies can come of this (wasn’t there a rumor Pete knocked her up at some point?). 18 year olds gonna be 18 year olds.

The pic of Kaia in a mask is the first time I’ve seen any resemblance with her mom Cindy Crawford.
It could just be an older sister type thing. Cara doesn’t seem to be terribly messy, and Kaia already dipped her toes into the messier side of being a model. And Caras been pretty outspoken about how awful being a model can be. So I’m hoping it’s a good mentor type deal with them.

LA is still a pandemic hot spot. If that’s where they live (which I’m assuming they do) then I can understand and actually appreciate them not having their feet done. I live out outside of LA city but within LA county and I’m not going near a nail salon for a while. I have friends that went during the brief couple of weeks they reopened before swiftly reckoning but even that has been a while now.
If celebrities would just constantly wear masks, we wouldn’t have to see that horrible kissy face duck lips pose ever again.

I dont get the “they are dating” thing with these girls. Hanging out, hugging or even kissing was part of the BFF ritual for ages (between the “popular girls”) and nobody called it dating. Even the more recent matching tatoos is just a BFF routine to show off that they are in the same popular girls bubble.
I think calling it dating what these girls do (every girl with every girl in the circle) is a reach a bit. Just to show:” oh, we are so wake, girls dating girls is sooo okey that we call the BFF stuff these young girls showcase as dating. I am pretence-phobic.
Maybe I grew up in a conservative area, but girls didn’t hold each other and kiss like couples do.
If I had an 18 year old daughter and she was dating someone like that SNL guy, I would lose my GD mind. Not that I think this Cara chick is that great an influence either. Sorry but I think this is too much for an 18 year old. It’s not right.
