Another day, another story about how crooked Donald Trump and his cronies are. The New York Times recently published a breakdown of Trumps finances and taxes. Trump is $420 million in debt and ten out of the last fifteen years he has paid zero taxes. But what sent everyone over the edge was the fact that Trump had paid $750 in taxes in 2016. You know, the year he ran for president on accusing Hilary Clinton of being corrupt. He paid just $750 the next year too.
Folks were pissed off so they took to Twitter and began sharing their stories about how they paid more taxes than the Grifter in Chief despite making much less than he did in income. Here are a few notable drags [some via Buzzfeed]:

As someone who takes about $17,000 or so a year after taxes, I have paid more in taxes this YEAR (and more taxes will be paid this year) than Trump did in 2016 and 2017. I live paycheck to paycheck while he lives a lavish lifestyle so yeah. Trump can continue to kiss my ass.

However incensed we may be, we know those who are fans of the Donald will only double down and support him more for getting away with not paying his fair share of taxes which in my opinion is ridiculously hypocritical. Especially since his supporters are supposedly all about America first. I guess America should come first if you aren’t a white male.
It really angered me to see how little he paid in taxes over the years even though I am not surprised. I made less than $40k one year and I OWED taxes. Are you kidding me? I want my money back. The fact that the seemingly uber rich and corporations get out of paying taxes while sucking up all of the government assistance is shameful. We won’t even mention how the Republicans didn’t want to extend the unemployment portion of the CaresAct for another six months for struggling Americans because they didn’t want to “pay people to stay home.” Are you kidding me? You mean the people who overpay in taxes every year?
Hopefully finding out about Trump’s taxes will move some people to not vote for him but I doubt it. He can do nothing wrong in his supporters’ eyes.

With all the screaming going on by Trump family members and the GOP about how somebody committed a felony by releasing those documents, it is notable that none of them have denied that the figures are correct. And it is only a felony if an IRS employee released the documents, none of them know that.
Junior was particularly ridiculous yesterday, blaming all of it on Hunter Biden and doing what appeared to be a coke-fueled, morning interview on Fox in which he claimed that the NYTimes business writers and the lawyers who checked the story have no idea how business taxes are calculated. He was wrong. And visibly high.

And is that a temporary solution, how do you open a bank account,lease a car or a home,register your kids to school?
Noki idk about a bank account. But Iām a landlord and I donāt require SS#, I ask but itās not disqualifying if it is not provided. And in NY at least all you need to register a kid for school is the childās birth certificate, immunization record, and proof a address.

Taxes are typically taken out at every pay check by your employer. There are exceptions of course, such as independent contractors, folks who are self-employed, etc. You can obtain an ITIN number through the IRS, which you can use to file your taxes. Yes, ITIN numbers can expire. Most people I have come into contact with who are undocumented and working do not earn enough money to owe taxes at the end of the year. In most states, if you are undocumented, you cannot get a driver’s license. In a small number of states, there is a “driving privilege card” that is offered to people who do not have a Social Security Number. But it is physically different in appearance, and is not accepted as a form of identification for many things, like buying alcohol, etc. Depending on the state, you can also use a driver’s license from a foreign country that is valid to drive in that state and as identification. As far as I know, schools in my state don’t require a SSN for minors nor from their parents. Some banks don’t either or they give you an option of providing your ITIN number. If you are applying to rent, some landlords require a background check, which means that if you don’t have a SSN then you can’t live there. I had to provide my SSN when I signed up for my new phone plan even though I paid for it in cash. I am pretty sure you can’t lease a car without a SSN unless the business accepts foreign driver’s licenses or a driving privilege card.
There’s a couple ways to do it.
1.) ITIN – Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. You can register for one of these as an undocumented immigrant or foreign national living in America to comply with tax laws. It basically just served the function of linking your tax filing, but it is also very important because it gives you access to the ability to open a bank account, secure a license, or provide proof of residency. However, you cannot use it to claim any benefits associated with SSN except for potentially a child tax credit.
2.) Certain work visa holders, accepted refugees, green card holders, etc. are issued temporary SSN numbers that allow them to move normally throughout the system for the length of the time they are here without major restrictions.
3.) Quite honestly….you buy a fake SSN. š There are channels through which you can get paperwork issued that makes it look like you are a citizen, and you can use those falsified documents to get a lot of that information replaced. Interestingly enough, these people are actually helping us debt-wise because while their fake SSN can be used to pay taxes and be mistaken for valid elsewhere, because it is not on record from the government itself, they can’t actually claim any of the social security tax they pay into their whole lives. We call that *irony.*
Those aren’t fake SSNs. They are real SSNs of people who are often still alive, so the use of their real SSN by someone else messes up their taxes and benefits and credit.
I pay more in taxes than trump (and usually end up owing) and i’m not usually mad about it because I can afford it and I want the government to provide services that cost money. But I AM mad that I’m paying it while Trump isn’t.
This may not change his base, nothing will. But we don’t need the base. We just need enough voters in some of the swing states to cross over to Biden. We don’t know that 30-40% of supporters, we aren’t getting them. And this COULD be something that pulls over just enough to voters to seal his fate.
Let’s hope. Thankfully the media seems to be hammering the $750 figure pretty heavily.
I love that the $750 sum seems to have really struck a cord with people all around the world but so many havenāt mentioned that for the previous 10 or so years before that, he paid no tax at all.

The blue state thing isnāt quite correct, you can still take property tax deductions, but it was capped at $10,000 for state and local taxes. SALT. Anything above that, you are paying federal tax on money that is state tax. Youāre being taxed on the same money twice. Itās incredibly unfair, and punishes the states who already send more to the feds than they get back.
I think what Noel might be referencing is the overall restructure of the standard minimum deduction, which makes it harder to itemize for a lot of average taxpayers (in part thanks to the SALT cap).

Possibly, but it’s not real clear. But you can still definitely take the deduction up to the cap, if you itemize, just wanted to make that clear.
As a single person who owns a home with high property taxes and has no kids, it’s always benefited me to itemize. The SALT cap really hurt, and is double taxation.

The NYT piece, or any piece anywhere, on Trump’s finances and taxes, was long over due.
You are SO right about his supporters doubling down. I was at the closing of the refinancing of my mortgage yesterday with the attorney and the mortgage broker. There was an error in my property tax numbers (reported way too low) nd I made a crack about them thinking I was on the Trump Plan. They both laughed, and one after the other said pretty much “good for him” and “he’s good for my economy”. I replied that as a lifetime Democrat, I was appalled. They did NOT backtrack at all.
I told them that over the course of my lifetime I had paid several hundreds of thousands in taxes and had no problem with it. But that I expect a fair and equal policy. I have no problem paying taxes, particularly when it helps the less fortunate. Nope. They disagreed. They hate paying taxes and more power to him. I doubled down. I pointed out that MY taxes educated THEIR children. I chose not to have children, but I still believe that it is my obligation as a citizen that my tax dollars aid the next generation with the best quality education possible. They literally looked at me like I had two heads.
It appears to be a mindset:. Look after only yourself OR accept the responsibility to help others. I know I am oversimplifying it, but there it is.
Two things:
1. With this new knowledge of his tax structure (and likely those of other millionaires and billionaires) PLEASE ensure you vote.
2. Where is the fury and outrage in the media over this story?!? Surely it’s not another thing of his that is going to be buried?
I can’t stand people like that. Good for you for sticking up for yourself (and the country as a whole). Those are the “I’ve got mine, who cares about you” type of people, but they’re also the first in line to demand services and scream for help when they’re in trouble. They also probably claim to love the police and the military, but…where do they think those salaries come from? TAXES.

Like many others have already said, I’ve paid way more than that in taxes while working 2-3 jobs simultaneously just to stay afloat and pay All My Bills without benefit of filing bankruptcy, like he has multiple times. In fact I’ve paid so much more in taxes, I had to go on a payment plan for multiple years. But still I paid my tax liability. It’s called integrity.
