Rupert Murdoch is an Australian who became a naturalized American, and he mostly lives in England now with his latest wife Jerry Hall. He owns homes all over the world and he owns media outlets all over the world too, including the Wall Street Journal, Fox News, The Sun, The Times UK, the NY Post, Sky News Australia and tons more. He’s arch-conservative and he loves to start sh-t, even at his age (he’s 89). Apparently, as he sits at home with Jerry Hall, he’s paying close attention to the US election, and he thinks Joe Biden is going to win in a landslide.
President Trump’s influential supporter Rupert Murdoch is telling close associates he believes Joe Biden will win the election in a landslide. The Australian-born billionaire is disgusted by Trump’s handling of COVID-19, remarking that the president is his own worst enemy, that he is not listening to advice about how best to handle the pandemic, and that he’s creating a never-ending crisis for his administration, according to three people who have spoken with Murdoch.
In response to an email inquiry for this report asking him if he believes Biden will win in a landslide and his thoughts on Trump’s handling of coronavirus, Murdoch responded, “No comment except I’ve never called Trump an idiot,” referring to a 2018 report that the media mogul called the president a “f–king idiot” following a chat about immigration.
While Murdoch believes the outcome of the election is a fait accompli, his New York tabloid has been doing everything in its power to help Trump’s re-election chances, publishing a screaming page 1 story on Wednesday under the headline, “Biden Secret E-Mails.” The supposed “smoking gun” emails purported to show that Hunter Biden had introduced his father to a Ukrainian businessman when he was vice president, though the Post relied on unverified documents given to them by Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani. (Biden’s team denies that such a meeting took place.)
Murdoch had long prized having unfettered access to the White House, much like the direct line he has enjoyed to leaders in Australia and the U.K. But people familiar with the matter say the two men have not spoken in several weeks after Murdoch grew tired of Trump’s endless complaints about what the president viewed as negative coverage on Fox News.
At one point in the winter, as Murdoch grew increasingly frustrated with Trump, he even considered getting behind another Democratic candidate, having discussions about supporting Mike Bloomberg in his ill-fated presidential run, a Murdoch executive told The Daily Beast. But he is now firmly of the mindset that the next president will be Biden, telling one associate, “after all that has gone on, people are ready for Sleepy Joe.”
Yeah, this isn’t an endorsement, clearly. It’s just a long-time political operative/media baron knowing which way the wind is blowing. I too am hoping for and predicting a Biden blowout. But a lot can happen between now and Election Day. And it’s sort of funny to me that Murdoch is basically side-stepping the glaring issue of the NY Post (an outlet he owns and loves) publishing what we now know was a Russian intelligence plot to dirty up the Bidens.
Also: I kind of enjoy (as a neutral, uncaring spectator) these internecine beefs between Trumpers and Fox News people. There has been a tonal change on some of Fox News’ shows in recent months as even they try to distance themselves from the dumpster fire that is the Trump administration. I think it was that old neocon Bill Kristol who said something like (I’m paraphrasing): when all of this is said and done, no one will admit to going along with it. That’s what Murdoch is trying to do in advance.

All I have to know about the election is that there is record turnout so far and that is always a sign that people are unhappy. Trump will lose worst than Bush did to Obama. I hope the Senate flips Blue too so we can start to undo the massive damage the current POTUS has wrought.
Michael the Senate has to be part of the win. More so than the presidency really. If the civics class of the last four years has taught us anything, it’s that the Senate determines how much power a president has. If the Senate had turned blue in the midterm elections, Trump would be standing trial for his crimes right now, after having been removed from office. The Supreme Court would not be lost to us for decades to come, and COVID would have been handled better from the start.
Bush never ran against Obama.
Obama never ran against Bush, just saying. He beat McCain and Romney.
Bush didn’t lose to Obama. John McCain and mitt Romney lost to Obama.
To be fair, it’s an easy mistake, and I even misread the original post. Bush the first epically lost to Clinton after just one term in office (and gdm if Bush 2 didn’t deserve the same fate).
And if he does win, Murdoch is going to do all he can via his papers in both the US and UK and Fox News to attack the Biden Administration.
2016 2016 2016……VOTE!!!!!
This reminds me of the end of the Dubya Bush years, when the people who’d been aiding and abetting him for eight years (including rioting and lawyering to get him in the White House in the first place in 2000) suddenly tried to act like he’d somehow been operating all by himself that whole time. Whatever happens in November (and I’m not as confident as Murdoch sounds about a Biden blowout), I will not forget either the few Republicans who stood against Trump from the beginning–or the ones who only did it after he’d become radioactive.
My vote for Biden/Harris has already been cast and recorded. Fingers crossed!
I hadn’t remembered he was married to Jerry Hall. Certainly makes me think less of her. Murdoch and Fox News have done great damage.
The optimist in me thinks he’s right, and the turnout is encouraging, but the GOP/Trump is full of liars, cheaters, and traitors, so I put nothing past them. VOTE.
The damage Murdoch has done to the USA and the UK shows just how much he hates those countries. All for the Iraq war (brings in viewers) – all for Trump (also brings in viewers). He hates any form of socialized medicine so forget about healthcare for all. He has created monsters like Hannity who is probably now more powerful than Murdoch because he has millions of fans. Yes, much damage.
Murdoch is as evil and vile as Mitch McConnell as far as I’m concerned- same agenda just different platforms.
In fact, Murdoch is probably worse because his pull and reach affects more countries.
He is pure poison.
Could this be a ploy to get people to not vote because Joe will win in a landslide so do they really need to brave the pandemic to vote if it’s going to be a landslide?
Could be, for those who do not remember the lessons of 2016.
That’s exactly what it is and everyone needs to ignore it.
Absolutely, he’s just stirring thing up and still trying to help his fellow crony.
I mean, that’s what we heard about Hillary, too, and look what happened.
We need to continue to urge everyone to get out and vote.
‘There has been a tonal change on some of Fox News’ shows in recent months as even they try to distance themselves from the dumpster fire that is the Trump administration.’
This has been the only thing that’s made me crack a smile throughout the summer. And of course nacho man’s responses.
I’m in the middle of an amazing podcast about the Murdoch family called Even the Rich.. the Ted Kennedy episodes are good too.
I just finished the Murdoch season also! Now on JFK, Jr. and CBK
Thank you for the recommendation! I have been looking for something new to listen to and coming up empty.
I voted early and hand delivered my mail in ballot. I decided to do this because my anxiety was getting to me and wanted to get my voting over with. I’m not relaxing until this is over.
Pay no attention to this man. VOTE!!!!!
Precisely. I fear for the US. Studies in my country at least find that young people need to feel like their impacting the overall outcome in order to vote. You have to give them a sense of urgency and importance..
I’ve never been so anxious to get my ballot. Hoping it arrives today.
call your Town Clerk office if not. Mine wasn’t delivered bc they had our house address instead of PO box address. I was able to pick it up.
DO NOT WAIT!!!
Make a plan!!
Fox News is trying to distance now because there’s a threat of lawsuits. They spread the administration’s BS about the pandemic for so long and people actually died because of it. There’s actual talk of lawsuits. The plaintiffs wouldn’t have to win, even a settlement would look bad, and even this getting to court isn’t a good look.
I like to think Jerry Hall has softened her hubby up to pivot from the nastiness and Anti-Americanism of his Fox faux news shows. Jerry, get him to pull the plug on Fox Network!!!
Rupert Murdoch is in it for the money and always has been. He identified a way to make lots of it – by appealing to the far right – and he did it. Many around him have reported that he’s much more centrist than his media empire; but he likes money, control and power. He certainly has pet issues which he pushes; but he is not as far right wing as people might think. For example, many around him report that he believes in climate change. He obviously just doesn’t care.
The scary thing, is that Lachlan Murdoch, who is taking over from him, is far more conservative and right wing than Rupert. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he truly believes he deserves everything he has and that anyone requiring help is weak and unworthy and just hasn’t tried hard enough. He is a terrifying prospect.
Jerry, meanwhile, sold out.
Murdoch is a reptile. And Jerry Hall, really? Him? Anyway, I’m just hoping for the best with this election but the Tea Party right wing mentality is so entrenched in America now it’s like crab grass. It keeps growing back every year and it’s a real fight not to let it take over.
I’m early voting tomorrow here in Texas. I pray that this is true and I also pray that Texas goes Blue. I’m hearing there’s a chance and here in Austin, 97% of all eligible voters registered this year. Hopefully that means we will have a BLUE WAVE!
The line around the building on Tuesday morning in Houston before the polls even opened gave me a lot of hope. I got there at 6:30 am and waited for two hours. The people behind me in line probably waited much longer. No one should have to wait in line to vote, but given how many of us were willing to in order to cast our vote made me proud.
Never have I wanted Murdoch to be right about anything! Let’s hope this time he is.
I don’t trust Murdoch. He’s a slime ball and is likely trying to get dems complacent. Everyone get out and VOTE like your lives depend on it, because they do.
Rupert Murdoch is the devil. He is a kingmaker – he placed Trump in the presidency. He has done incredible damage to the US, and the UK, as a poster said already, but also Australia. He denies climate change and druing our Black Summer of 2019-2020, his mastheads were publishing climate change denials, and playing down the tragedy. He is the worst.
Yep.
Pure evil.
Murdoch is still reprehensible.
Rupert Murdoch is one of the worst men on this earth. The damage he has done to Western democracy is massive. He is utter scum.
Why is Jerry Hall married to him?
She seems to be too good for this nasty, evil man.
Murdoch is not to be trusted. And he stands to live another 10-15 years.
The old saying “Even the Devil doesn’t want him” rings true.
I hope thats what happens. but i will believe it when i see it. look what happened in 2016!
He’s basically abandoning sinking ship!! It’s either a tactic to get voters not to go vote or to distance himself from trump. Either way history will be witness to how he helped him get to office and how to this day his network is spreading propaganda and misinformation
