As we discussed, Prince Harry made a special request of Buckingham Palace: he asked that someone lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in his name for Remembrance Sunday. His request was denied, allegedly by courtiers and not the Queen (but I don’t believe that). So the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to do their own Remembrance Sunday respect – they went to the Los Angeles National Cemetery to put flowers on the graves of two men from the Commonwealth.
Joined by wife Duchess Meghan, Harry paid a quiet visit to the Los Angeles National Cemetery on Remembrance Sunday, November 8, to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect the freedom of others. In a series of touching images shared by the couple, both Harry and Meghan can be seen wearing commemorative poppies on their lapels as they carefully laid bouquets of flowers that the duchess had picked from their Montecito garden at the resting places of two Commonwealth soldiers—a man who had served in the Royal Australian Air Force and one from the Royal Canadian Artillery.
The couple, who only took their masks off when they were alone, also carefully placed a wreath at an obelisk in the cemetery that features a plaque that’s inscribed, “In Memory of the Men Who Offered Their Lives in Defense of Their Country.” Harry—who wore his 2002 Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal, 2008 Afghanistan Operational Service medal, and 2012 Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal—wrote a message with the wreath that read, “To all of those who have served, and are serving. Thank you.”
A source close to the Sussexes tells BAZAAR, “It was important to the duke and duchess to be able to personally recognise Remembrance in their own way, to pay tribute to those who have served and to those who gave their lives.” Poignantly, the cemetery the couple chose to visit is opposite the Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Health Care System building, which was used by Meghan’s grandfather, Alvin Ragland, after he served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
I think the remembrance of the fallen was entirely respectful and beautiful. I also think it worked perfectly as a f–k you to the Windsors, who denied him the right to even have a wreath laid in his name at the Cenotaph. But of course the royal reporters are turning this into yet another opportunity to criticize Harry and Meghan.
The Express’s Richard Palmer had an absolute tantrum about the fact that Harry and Meghan hired a photographer to capture the images. Palmer actually wrote this with a straight face: “Since they quit Britain Harry and Meghan have mainly done “engagements” at which they seek to control the message by issuing photos and press releases afterwards. Where is the US media at these events? Isn’t a free press one of the western values we cherish and fight for?” Literally EVERY royal family member releases private photos, or photos taken from an organized photoshoot. Every royal person tries to control the narratives around them. And if Harry and Meghan had invited the media, THAT would have been criticized too (and for good reason, that would have been tacky at a cemetery). Plus, Americans spent this weekend in a mostly drunken, blissed-out state following the conclusion of the election. This is clearly something Harry and Meghan wanted to do quietly, but they wanted to be SEEN doing it, and I don’t blame them at all. The story works better with photos.
(Also, yes, maybe it was just a heavy coat, but Meghan does look knocked up. Polo Baby is getting a baby sister, Pandemic Baby.)
Photos courtesy of Lee Morgan via Instagram.
I like the coat. I hate pregnancy speculation and bump watching so I’ll leave it at that.
This was a nice way of paying respect IMO. They’re damned if they do, damned if they don’t so they’ll be criticised no matter what
Agreed.
Either she is pregnant, or she isn’t, and it’s none of our business. I love this site but I would really really like for you to stop bump-watching Meghan. – Remember when for the past six months or so you consistently speculated that she looked pregnant in the Zooms, only for her to come out clearly not-pregnant-looking? So after a little break, here we go again. As I said, maybe she is pregnant, maybe she isn’t, maybe you are spot on this time round, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Back to the matter at hand – good on them to go out, show their respects (and wear masks) and do it on their own terms.
Said exactly that on twitter – they’re damned either way. If they hadn’t done anything, they would have been killed in the british press, and when they did this, people still freaked out.
I thought it was a nice gesture on their part and I definitely think that it was Harry sending a message to the veterans – that he’s still there for them – and to the royal family, that he doesn’t need to them to honor the veterans.
Also, the outrage over this being PR and photographers were there!!! omg!!! its just so ridiculous at this point, The royals are nothing but PR, which is part of why H&M wanted out.
Your last paragraph especially. A lot of what the royals (and public figures) do in general is PR. Now I do want to say that PR itself is not a bad thing. There’s obviously good PR and bad PR. Now with these photos, I don’t think it’s PR in a way that everybody thinks it is, but I do think it’s designed to send a message of “We don’t need the BRF to remember veterans”.
that’s definitely a good point – something being PR doesn’t automatically make it a bad thing. And positive PR is necessary especially when you’re trying to get a non-profit up and running.
The royals literally do nothing without someone there to photograph it but Harry does it to commemorate veterans who died and all of a sudden there are freak outs over the word privacy non stop.
If Harry posted a trip to Trader Joe then sure you can claim privacy concerns, but this visit was memorialized because he knows that it will be transmitted to the public and it will remind them of those who died in service of their country.
(Part of me hopes he gets invited to a local Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday)
I am finding it rather funny. It seems as though the information about the wreath refusal came from Harry, and this was their back up plan. It has attracted the most attention and the Palace will be hopping mad but the Sussexes have every right to do this. This all signals just the beginning, more fireworks to come. The Sussexes will continue to be the most watched Royals wherever they live.
It’s definitely one of those damned if you do, damned if you don’t moments. The only thing that I know here is that Harry has always been proud of his military background and no one should get to dictate to vets how to honour fallen vets. It’s not surprising that most of the criticisms are coming from those who have never served and the support from those who did. It was slightly funny to me that the US media mentioned the BRF’s Remembrance Day appearance as a footnote to the article on Harry.
On a really shallow note, these photos look so much better than the ones of the RF for Remembrance Day. The royals must be pissed. I bet that they didn’t expect H&M to do this which, incidentally, kind of overshadowed their Remembrance Day observance. The RRs and other outlets are only talking about Harry and Meghan. The RF should have just laid the damn wreath for Harry and released a statement (a story without photos have less impact) and got some good PR for once. Idiots.
Nope! They would rather be spiteful! As much as the royal family is a “firm” they really suck at all the aspects of a successful business like PR or strategy. It’s all petty interpersonal grudges and one-upmanship.
They are so bad at the business side of “The Firm” that it’s actually quite shocking. Who is advising them? All of the money they spend on PR, which is their only function at this point, is completely going to waste. If they were a real company they would’ve shuttered by now.
Exactly, JT! I remember Omid Scobie saying at one point, if a business had all the issues that the royal family does, you’d be doing a serious HR investigation!
This is no different than when he marked the day here in the US years ago ( I want to say it was in Arlington) with a photographer *shrug*. Maybe honor his request next time? They’ve been attacking his commitment to the vets all year, being seen marking the day is important.
Going forward Harry should just organize his own military events. He doesn’t need to be a working royal to support the military. There is quite a large British expat community here, surely there are some vets in there as well as our own US soldiers. Our veterans would appreciate a high profile soldier shining a light on issues that effect them. (He would also get more coverage here in America for it.) It’s another failure of the RF. Harry is probably the highest profile vet that I can think of right now and the royals are doing their best to ruin him.
Make lemonade outbof the lemons. There are thousands of people from the Commonwealth nations who supported Britain during the great wars. Shining a light on their contributions would be a kind gesture also.
Yup, I made that point on another post that Harry should consider having a Remembrance Day event for stateside Commonwealth soldiers.
Yup, I made that point on another post that Harry should consider having a Remembrance Day event for stateside Commonwealth soldiers.
I think what they did at the cemetery was just perfect. It simple act of remembrance and resonated more.
Or Harry can just wait for an invitation from President Elect Biden to next years Veterans Day services at Arlington National Cemetary.
The perfect sweet and thoughtful gesture just like his remembrance of his mother’s birthday. No one is going to tell this vet that he cannot lay a wreath on Remembrance Day. Both are understated and dignified, take notes Waity.
what Harry did for his mother’s birthday? I remember he went to kindergarten on the 23rd anniversary of her death, but I don’t remember what he did for her birthday?
Didn’t they plant Dianas favorite flowers at that kindergarten?
Thank you, my mistake. It was the anniversary of Diana’s death.
I’m glad they did their own Remembrance event. Harry served. He knows the pain of losing comrades in arms. He shouldn’t have been denied the opportunity to honor the vets in the UK. If they’d have just laid the wreath in his name, the Sussexes wouldn’t have publicized their visit to a US cemetery. I think the photographs were insurance for when the inevitable Harry abandoned the military stories came out this week. Instead, BDE Harry & Meghan stomped all over the BRF.
Good for them: they did it their way, because the Palace wouldn’t let them participate, as usual. Kaiser has a good record on her bump instincts, but I question whether Meghan would have belted her coat if so. Time will tell; I hope Kaiser’s right!
I think she belted her coat precisely to hide any growing bump. That’s what ladies do to minimize looking thick in the middle (pregnant or not).
I too think she’s pregnant and that’s why the court case got pushed to next fall. I’m hoping for a GIRL this time!!! 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
Honestly, first thought seeing her was girl just seems “fuller”…esp. her bust. Her face as well. But, time will tell for sure. A little red-haired sister for Archie would be awesome! 😊
As for paying his respects, the BRF can go suck lemons (they look like they do!) I think they did this tastefully and respectfully. And I sure as hell don’t know why the BRF would give a damn, other than once again, they ^&%$ it all up, and H&M got it “right”.
Top CEO Keen Kate looked downright DOUR on that balcony, cosplaying as usual with those FRINGED EPAULETS!! OMG… it’s literally something you’d see on “Spitting Image” (even “The Windsors” wouldn’t go there lol)
Please don’t. Meghan deserves not to have her body analysed from every angle. Give her the peace to announce a pregnancy when she wants, as fans we should let her choose her terms
I am also a little fuller in my face, bust, and waist because I’ve been eating during COVID and hardly leaving my house. And is Meghan actually looking “bigger” than when we last saw her at the CW service, or “bigger” than the picture we have in our head of Meghan from pre-Archie? I feel like she’s looked pretty much exactly the same for a year now. Maybe she didn’t lose every single baby pound. Maybe she lost some and then regained. Im sure there are many many many women who never return to their pre-baby weight, I am one of them.
I’m so sick of bump watch. People have been claiming for months that she looks about 3-4 months pregnant. The baby would have been born by now. And if she was 3 months pregnant 6 months ago… and there is no baby…. So much can go wrong. And it’s extremely painful for women when your miscarriage or abortion is “outed.” Thats just an “in general” statement, I’m not claiming that happened to Meghan and Harry. But it’s just another reason to not bump watch anyone. We have to stop this. Why can’t people just say things like “I’m excited for if and when they have another child.” Or “I will be so happy when Harry and Meghan have a daughter someday.”
I never even thought of the court case date being changed; you’re a sharp one!
You can still belt your coat while pregnant. I have.
The larger question is why do the UK haters invite Harry and Meghan to live rent free in their minds? They booted them out. Now leave them alone.
Won’t happen as long as the trial isn’t over. DailyFail is going to cash in on their every move.
I saw one journalist refer to this as Harry trying to ‘have his cake’. What a disgusting thing to say. Harry is a veteran and has dedicated his life to lifting up other veterans. Who do these RRs – who have never served and never done anything remotely noteworthy for vets – think they are to insult him over this?
Truly disgusting. If they had wanted the media there, it would have taken one call and they would have been there in DROVES. Instead, it was done respectfully and low key. With the focus on the fallen. To twist it into anything else is sick. I am so glad he wore his well earned medals. He had a right to be there.
To others reading from outside the US, we do our Remberance Day (Veterans Day) on November 11th. I can assure you that it is done beautifully and with great reverence. It is the Veterans themselves that organize and run the entire thing. I know since my own brother is buried in a National Cemetery. The day before the actual holiday, troops of Boy Scouts place individual American flags on each and every grave. On the day of, the service is so very moving, with each branch of the military represented and while very somber, it is also uplifting. It always meant a great deal to my parents.
So shame on the Royal Family for attempting to turn this solemn day into a “gotcha” on Prince Harry. The disgrace is on them. The quiet honor that Prince Harry bestowed in this American National Cemetery is a credit to him, the man and the solider.
Just to clarify – in the UK, Remembrance Day (or Armistice Day) is also November 11, and Remembrance Sunday is the second Sunday of November (So should fall close to November 11). We just use a different term for it here in the States.
I’m sorry for the loss of your brother, but glad that the ceremony is moving and important to your family. I think that’s one of the things about this move from the royal family that is so maddening – these ceremonies are meant to be about the fallen, not about the royal family’s protocols and pettiness.
They are forever outing themselves. Remembrance day isn’t a solemn time for the RF to remember those that served and died, it’s a time for them to be seen, be photographed, wave from the balcony, and be photographed with the Queen for good RF PR. They are truly disgusting if Harry honoring veterans on Remembrance Day makes them immediately think “this guy is just trying to steal our Royal PR.” I am also flabbergasted at the fact that they wouldn’t lay a wreath for him. Even if he wanted to come personally, there is COVID. He really can’t just flit back and forth to the UK to participate in all the things that are important to him. And for the RF to deny a wreath and what it represents to the veterans and the war dead just because they want to f*ck with Harry is so petty and disrespectful to the veterans and war dead. “Yeah, one of our family really wanted to honor you today and show his support with a wreath and a message but we told him ‘ha ha ha, you can’t have your cake and eat it too!’”
That always say things like “ they want to have their cake” because they want the Sussexes to be grateful for crumbs. Harry is a veteran and will honor his fellow soldiers always. I always thought this first Remembrance Day outside the firm was going to be difficult for him, and you could almost feel that. I found the photos very touching and poignant. As some said, we live in the age of “ pics or it didn’t happen “. If they just released a statement, people would have said they didn’t do anything so now they know they did mark the day. The anger because he refused to let his family be used and mistreated just seems to increase not diminish. I also think they are angry over there because Trump lost and they wanted to use the election to further humiliate the Sussexes for their “ interference “. Notice the noise is always coming from one direction, and it ain’t from the West Coast.
Yes. I was dreading how they would have used Trump had he won to terrorize H/M because you just know that was in the works. This loss really knocked many of them off their game and will cause them to have to regroup. Dummies, if they had played their cards right when it was determined that H/M would definitely leave, they could have still utilize that relationship in the US.
Despite all the negativity and criticism towards Sussexs now… I think Meghan is pregnant and I think 2021 will be a very happy year for H&M🤞🤞🤞🤞
Agree. I think Meghan is pregnant based on the ‘confidential information’ reason they gave the judge for postponing the trial. Wishing them the best for 2021!
Love everything about Meg (and Harry’s outfits). Very somber and respectful with no military cosplay.
This family is so utterly cruel. This man served his country and to deny him a simple wreath speaks volumes about how dead in the water the BRF are. They’re finished when this is all they have to offer. Petty squabbles over whether to present a wreath.
great photos. critiques from the uk press are nonsensical.
This pics are getting more attention than the ones of William & Kate!! Harry and Meghan always overshadow them!! No wonder they hate them!! It must be hard that no matter what they do, they cannot compete with Harry and Meghan!! 😂
Exactly!
The engagement on Twitter is like night and day. Thousands of RT and comments under the HM photos vs dozens of RTs and comments for the royals. Lol! Not to mention the international coverage of the HM photos and story. It’s like the local yokels going up against global superstars.
I know Sussexs are going to be criticized but doesn’t matter if its for all the right reasons. This is how royals need to do it, instead of spending hundreds of millions for fake PR. Anyway, I like Harry’s suit, Meghan should have tried a block heel with this dress.
They both looked nice. She looked good but it’s hard to walk in grass with those heels. Were really lovely photos. Glad they were able to mark the day.
Richard Palmer’s comments were unhinged. Why would Harry and Meghan ask the US press to take pictures of them at the cemetery? They’re not public officials. These comments are on par with Rebecca English’s comments about Meghan and Harry needing the palace machinery for their public appearances. It’s like the royal rota live in the same bubble that the Royal Family live in. They still haven’t grasped that they are not working royals anymore, that they no longer live in the UK and don’t understand how the real world works.
The Royal Family missed a big opportunity to show that Harry is still a well-loved member of the family and that he supports the military. Their actions show that Harry is not welcome anymore and that they do not care about the military.
The RRs are pissed because they had it SO easy in the UK. The royals were obligated to notify the press of their every activity and schedule and to invite them. Everything was handed to them.
Now they have no access, no control and are stuck with spinning the seconds they get from the US press. No insider knowledge that they can monetize and sell to get themselves on international news outlets.
The Sussex’s have COMPLETELY cut them out and they will be eternally furious.
Palmer is an ass. What a ridiculous statement. The US press is occupied, as they should be, with the election results and the nonsense with Trump refusing to concede. This was a private visit, not a public event that the press needed to be at. They are not public figures in the US.
Palmer had to make up for criticizing Billy about hiding covid so he’s back to providing fodder for his hateful followers. The UK press is so unaware of how little they matter outside of their island.
class and dignity.
These two are just so soooo photogenic and the frames composed of the white graves, black clothes and contrasting black and reddish hair, against piercing green grass…it’s both very moving and pleasing to my PR heart! Keep going sussexes! Away from living-in-the-past-petty-people, thrive!!
“Where is the US media at these events?”
Mr. Ricard Palmer Person: The US media does not really care, with the exception of People Magazine and Royalty TV, as this is not news nor is it National-Inquirer tabloid fodder.
News is getting rid of Orange “Brokeahontas” Shitler and the latest update on the COVID-19 pandemic. National-Inquirer tabloid fodder is the latest tips on Rose Bush cultivation and Rose Bush gardening.
Does the UK Press not understand that by-in-large the US media does not care one iota about the Sussexes?
Yeah that line of argument about the US press makes no sense. Richard just has his panties in a bunch and is grasping at straws. H&M wanted Remembrance photos of themselves out there to compete with the Royal family’s and to make a point, there wasn’t anything for the press to cover. It’s too bad H&M don’t have a social media account anymore, because these photos would have been perfect for that.
Seemed like Richard was teed off that if the US press weren’t getting the scoop then why weren’t the UK press.
It’s all about the bottom line. In their eyes Meghan messed up their bag.
Yeah, we’re a LITTLE BUSY right now in the U.S. press.
Maybe it is time to have you eyes checked, because there plenty of magazines, online news… that are covering the Sussexes in America. It is all over! On the other hand, I have not seen any pics from the RF Engagement. There is no interest in the RF outside the UK, and that’s why the BM are so mad at the Sussexes. They don’t need the BM, and are still able to get global attention.
Isn’t the line from the Queen all these reporters always trot out that you have to be seen to be believed so I guess Meghan and Harry were just following the Queen’s advice
Glad they went to a cemetery to mark Remembrance Day. It’s shameful that Harry’s wreath wasn’t allowed to be displayed in London. He served and served well.
He looks proper and somber. I don’t like meghans coat. It is bulky and too long. The delicate — and gorgeous shoes— are all wrong for the length and weight of the coat. Plus, it’s just drab.
But good for them for marking the Day. One suggestion: instead of hiring their own personal photographer, which lays rise tone “ controlling narrative” why not ask the Associted press to send a photographer. ? I’m quite sure they AP would have been happy too, and then outlets would have paid nothing or a nominal fee as all media are members to the AP for the photos. Do outlets have to pay the Sussexes or the private photographer to use the pictures?
Of they notified AP then everyone would have known and the press would crowd the place and cause a scene.
They wanted a low key, quiet visit.
I think this way they own the copyright to the photos, too, so that the media can’t make money off of them or use for nefarious purposes.
That too! The goal is to deprive RRs access AND any ability to profit off of them.
If they had told the AP, I guarantee that the BM would have learned about it and sent their goons in to disrupt what is supposed to be a sombre affair. This was done exactly right, I can’t think of anything else I would have done differently in their position.
I believe there is a span of time that news organizations can use the copy righted photos, but then, after that time runs out, there is a fee. Pretty sure I remember reading that when the first photos of Archie were taken, but it’s been a long, long year and I could be mistaken.
As a fellow veteran, good for Harry and Meghan. War forever changes you, & I appreciate what they did. RIP to all those that didnt make it home, and for the all veterans, thank you for your service!
My Uncle is buried there. He was killed when a new plane that was experimental and on a final test flight with his crew on board, suddenly developed unexpected engine failure as they just took off. It was at his base they were all assigned in Florida before leaving for Europe . I’ve been told from his childhood friend, that the plane strafed the airfield while the entire company was out for their noon hour.
This friend, who has now also passed, said he saw my Uncle, frantically at the cockpit controls, valiantly trying to pull up to clear all the soldiers just below him. He managed to get past them all, saving their lives, before crashing into a wooded area . He had been married only one week.
I really doubt that Prince Harry and Meghan were anywhere near my Uncles grave, but I’m so touched they cared enough to come to see the Veterans Cemetery. Thank you.
What a brave soul. Your family’s sacrifice is remembered and honored.
How brave and honourable of your uncle. I can’t imagine the panic and fear he must have felt in those moments for his own life and yet he was still thinking of others. What a wonderful example he left for all of us.
Thank you to all vets for your service.
I think Harry and Meghan would have done this regardless of the BRF placing a wreath for Harry on the Cenotaph. They had to have coordinated with the photographer in advance so this was definitely not last minute. And Harry would have wanted to do mark the day privately or publicly, he was in the military for a decade and for years attended Remembrance Sunday in London. I feel like maybe they wouldn’t have released the photos on Remembrance Sunday right away had the BRF agreed to place a wreath though, so it’s their loss. But the BRF said no, so Harry and Meghan went ahead with releasing the photos.
And they are lovely pictures, very somber and moving. Also I read that it was in the high 50s/low 60s in LA so hence the heavy-ish coat for Meghan. We have speculated since March that she’s pregnant and each time we’ve been able to see her stomach, it’s very clear that she’s not. So I’ll wait for the official confirmation, if we ever get it.
I knew they would do something. As a daughter of a career Marine who served in wartime I am so proud of Harry’s service and continuing support of the military. Remembrance Day is not about the BRF. It is about remembering and honoring the sacrifices made. When did it become about the BRF?!? That’s what people should be angry about. Harry served and continues to serve the members of the military. As Harry said over the weekend, “For me as a father, a husband and as a human being, it’s about how we uphold these values in every aspect of our lives.” He is living his code. Good on him. The media should be ashamed. Don’t use the military to take out your issues with Harry. They have made enough sacrifices. Disgusting.
Also just noticed that Harry is only wearing his military medals and not the honor he was given by the Queen that he normally wears with his medals. It is sad it has come to this, but Harry doesn’t need any royal title. He has earned his respect through his service and commitment to the military community.
Bless them. A beautiful way to remember those who have and are serving.
What a lovely gesture. It’s so touching that Harry is keeping his British traditions alive in the US. That is what this nation is supposed to be about; we are (supposed to be) a nation that celebrates immigrants and guests and honors and respects the touches of their cultures of origin that they seek to preserve here.
This remembrance was beautiful and dignified. They both look perfectly dressed for the occasion and are comporting themselves appropriately. There is no legitimate criticism to be made of this, but haters are gonna hate, so forget them all.
And look at them, still holding hands, still a picture of unity and grace after all they’ve been through. This warms my heart. The slight against Harry was the only splotch against my exultation that the infestation is about to be fumigated from The White House after 4 blighted years.
I don’t know if Petty Betty truly knew or didn’t know about Harry’s request regarding the wreath, but I have to say that the outcome puts to rest all of the tabloid fan fiction I’ve seen which alleged that Charles and the Queen are watching Archie via Zoom calls and pining for him as they wistfully note how fast he’s growing.
That has to be pure fiction. If they were all granting Harry that much access to their personal time, he could and would have asked one of them during a personal call. From over here in the peanut gallery, it seems Harry doesn’t even have a direct way of reaching his own grandmother and has to take a number and wait for it to be called by a courtier.
I’ll never forget one of the less sycophantic reporters remarking how he’s sure the Queen wasn’t slighted that Archie wasn’t available for some holiday or other because she just doesn’t really notice little children and babies anyway. Her own children could and have attested to that!
Keir Simmons is the one who said the Queen doesn’t like babies.
I think this is lovely. And a great way to say “Fine. Screw You’ to the RF. They are petty a$$holes.
Harry has met so many veterans with his work through the Invictus Games. And to me, Remembrance Day isn’t just about those we lost. It is also about the people who gave up years of their lives to help others/keep our countries safe. Perhaps, Harry feels the same I do.
I’m glad he was able to lay his wreath in the US. Notice how the US didn’t stop him, they didn’t say he couldn’t because he wasn’t American. The RF wouldn’t let him because of their “protocol” and he wasn’t a working member. I’m glad he is in the US. He seems to be getting the respect he deserves. Harry is a veteran plain and simple. He deserved to do this, it doesn’t matter which country he is in.
He’s a private citizen, or at least Meghan is, so they can go to a cemetery and lay a wreath. I’m sure by this point he has his green card or whatever permanent resident paperwork is needed, so no permission needed. As long as Harry is not interfering with the government or breaking any laws he’s free!!
I saw plenty of twitter posts screaming about “RULES!” and stuff. Like the entire royal institution isn’t a bunch of made up rules on the fly that serve whoever is in power for the last several centuries.
If they wanted Harry’s participation in the UK, it would have happened. They did not, so he did his own thing, and here we are. So many people flip out over good old fashion PR strategies, and it’s comical to watch.
Last time I checked, “private citizens” can take and release pictures however and whenever they want. And it’s up to the press to decide if they want to run those pictures. Harpers Bazaar decided they wanted to release the pictures and story, they could have said no. But they know Harry and Meghan are popular so they did. If the RR are so pressed about the Sussexes then they don’t have to cover it. But they won’t pass up an opportunity to sniff their noses at H&M.
Her hair is shiny!
Good for them, sorry British press – but you suck.
Maybe you should have allowed Harry his wreath, courtiers/BRF.
Still astonishing to me that the RR can’t seem to figure out that H&M are now private citizens and don’t owe the British press anything but contempt. And it’s their own fault too, as they gleefully participated in the smearing of Meghan and, by extension, Harry.
Do it this way every year, Harry. He needs no permission to honor the fallen.
I’m expecting a report very soon about Will being incandescent over Harry’s request to lay a wreath and this protocol-breaking photo shoot in L.A., where they live in luxury in a $14 million mansion and also have a NETFLIX deal. Blah, blah, blah.
The photos are beautiful and touching and as a fan and supporter I am grateful for them. Their fans deserve photos highlighting their work and moments they wish to share just as much as the Royal Families fans do.
You know.
The British Royal Family is really starting to show their shitty ruthlessness to Harry. I mean. I get that there are hard feelings. I understand that they are still salty that he bolted to save his marriage (and, let’s be honest – his sanity) and fled to California with the woman he loves and their son.
But they are starting to look like the same assholes that expected Diana to put up with a cheating husband and then treated her like shit – even in death. Who can blame Harry for fleeing the mess that killed his mother?
One thing, however, is clear: The more they continue to alienate him, the more they punish and poke him, the more they drive him away, it becomes apparent that Diana was right all along. And I think she would be livid that Dull Bill denied his brother’s simple request to lay a wreath, because let’s face it: It was William who bigfooted that decision.
Well done, Wills. Your mother must be SO proud of you right now. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Truly, the image of Harry standing alone in a cemetery nearly 6,000 miles away was truly heartbreaking.
And the new season of the Crown with a clear focus on Diana is really going to remind everyone just how bad this family can get. It comes out on the 15th I believe.
Well said, anon! Diana would be livid and so ashamed of William. She’d be immensely proud of Harry for achieving his freedom.
I honestly believe if William turned out this way with his mother still around she would have grown to hate him. Because he became exactly like his father which is unforgivable considering he saw first hand what damage that does. But even worse as William’s uniquely vicious and scheming. He’s angry and out to ruin people as well. Not just scheming to make himself look better, he schemes to hurt people.
His mother would have been horrified. William seems so cold blooded.
When Harry participated in the ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown at Arlington, he also specifically laid a wreath in the section where veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan are laid to rest. It had a note to his “comrades-in-arms” and was signed Captain Harry Wales. This man’s military service isn’t even a decade behind him, and to treat him in this way is just so cold. He did the Arlington visit on the literal red carpet, and this visit as a private citizen. In both instances you can tell how meaningful it is for him.
Another slap in the face. When will this stop? They’re really willing to deny him a f*cking wreath?? My father flew bombing missions for the RCAF and was seconded to the RAF in England. He lost lots of comrades and went through some truly terrifying battles in North Africa. Every Remembrance Day (it’s on Nov. 11 in Canada) I get very teary thinking of him (he passed in 2003) and get out his medals and photographs from the war. I can’t imagine how heartfelt Harry’s love and admiration for the military must be and to told he can’t be part of it, even in a small way, in the UK must really sting. What a truly awful family. A pox on them.
Disgusting they wouldn’t let Harry lay a wreath. He served and it would have been wonderful PR for the royal family. For once it would be nice if the courtiers and Will didn’t make things about themselves. Pulling focus and making things about their own personal feelings on Harry rather than Remembrance Day is truly low.
Harry was recently accused of ‘abandoning the Armed Forces’ and this was published in the Mail. His lawyers sent a letter threatening legal action over this ‘untrue and defamatory allegation’. He remains connected to the Armed Forces in both official and unofficial ways through the InvictusGames, military charities and veterans organisation such as ‘Declassified’.
The wreath was made last year at the RBL factory. A photo of the uncollected wreath has been published. It is clearly very important to Harry that he continues his connections to the Armed Forces. The public statements against him by the likes of Lord Dannatt and the refusal to lay his wreath look like a Palace campaign against him. Publicising his personal act of remembrance serves as a message of support to the Armed Forces and a warning to the Palace.
I like her a lot, but I really wish she wore flats instead of heels in that cemetery with such a well maintained grass
Meg looks great.
Harry, it’s time to shave the head. Sorry.
As an American Harry’s gesture to continue this tradition here when he couldn’t at home is very appreciated and I’m happy to have such a dedicated altruist in our country.
And I’m excited for him to have the chance to become more involved in doing good here as the world eventually gets back to normal from COVID. I think he’ll be a great asset to our nation. (As Meghan already is.)
And I’m so glad to have him in the US!
There were so many awful comments on social media today. Who are these people? It is really scary.
To prince Harry and to all the men and women in uniform, thank you for your service.
On a superficial note, beautiful couple beautiful pictures.
I just want to say that after four years of nonsense from those people, the Windsors have reached another lower than low point in their war against Harry, Meghan, and Archie. This is right up their with their silence when Archie was likened to a monkey by the BBC. They are vile. Absolutely vile. I honestly fear for the Sussex’s safety whenever they have to step foot in England again. I wouldn’t cross the threshold of Frog more if I were them. I mean that. This Remembrance Day stunt Betty and the gang pulled lets me know that they feel nothing short of hatred toward Harry and his wife and child. Hatred.
I wish nothing but failure and misery on that family and all the haters on Brexit Island.
I am scared for them too. It is unnatural for that family to turn against Harry and Meghan and their child.
19k comments on Daily Mail. Almost 90% vile. How has the world become unkind and cruel? Kindness please….
This was Harry’s way of showing support for veterans and people who serve in the Military. Since his request was denied then he and Meghan decided to honor the military , veterans. and deceased military members here in the US because he are in the middle of a pandemic and England is in lockdown for a month-I am really starting to think the royal family is evil with very cold hearts-this gesture on Harry’s behalf was a small minor request that would not hurt anyone to show good faith and goodwill towards the Sussexes. The warmth of the royal family is that of an iceberg. My GOD continue to bless and keep the Sussex family in his hands. I will not look at the royal family in any positive light after this stupid action.
The RF keeps asking for more criticism! Imagine thinking doing this to the only royal who served in the front line! This institution is on a steady pace to self destruction. They keep digging their own grave by continuing their petty attacks on the 6th in line to the throne and his family. I love the huge support harry received from this. Even on daily fail which mostly filled with nazi xenophobic people. People are questioning why they denied harry but not accused paedophile Andrew!
As for palmer, he like every rr is clearly struggling to get work. Looking at how little shares & comments articles about the dolittles get, it’s clear that they are hurting financially. What’s strange is that knowing how being a hater isnt beneficial you’d think they’d reverse their tactics but nope. They are doubling down effectively alienating them even more. What a strange strategy. Especially when they know that haters(&bots) dont spend mone.
