Hillary Thomas (‘Hilaria’) grew up in a posh Beacon Hill home in Boston

Hilaria Baldwin

One of the funniest parts of this ongoing Hilaria Baldwin/Hillary Thomas scandal is that she spent years – almost a full decade – telling her lies on the record, in TV interviews and print interviews. She also is a constant oversharer on social media – she’s a narcissist who compulsively posts photos of herself in lingerie, showing off how quickly her body bounces back after having her children, or showing off her yoga poses in little more than a thong. She has constantly centered herself as a “victim” in various conversations about motherhood, mom-shaming, fertility and more. And now that chickens are coming home to roost, she whines to the NY Times about “boundaries” and privacy. Chica, por favor.

Anyway, Hillary completely lied – and is still lying!! – about her childhood and family background. She was born in Massachusetts and she grew up in the very posh Boston neighborhood of Beacon Hill.

Alec Baldwin’s pseudo Spaniard wife grew up in a 100-year-old $4million house in the heart of the most desirable district in Boston, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal. Yoga teacher Hillary Hayward-Thomas — who has long pretended she was born on the Mediterranean resort island of Majorca and only spoke English with a pronounced Spanish accent — instead spent almost her entire childhood in the Beacon Hill district of Beantown.

Records show her parents, attorney David Thomas and Harvard Medical School professor Kathryn Hayward bought the five-bed, five-bath house on Pinckney Street in June 1987 when their daughter was just three years old. They didn’t move out till she had turned 28.

‘I don’t know what she is talking about,’ said the family’s former neighbor. ‘She lived here since she was a child. She didn’t call herself Hilaria then – just Hillary. And she certainly didn’t speak with a Spanish accent. Once I was really upset with her and asked her to shut the gate to stop the dog getting out and she just looked at me and said: ‘I’ve lived here for 19 years,’ and stormed away. She was a very entitled young lady.’

The neighbor said she knew that Hillary’s brother Jeremy had gone to Majorca on a school exchange trip and that is when the family started to fall in love with the island, which lies 130 miles from mainland Spain. ‘I didn’t really know them that well, but I know Jeremy tried to live in Spain for a while, but he felt he didn’t fit in, so came back, but then their parents decided to move there after they retired.’

[From The Daily Mail]

The Mail has photos of the Beacon Hill home which the Thomases sold when they retired. They sold it when Hillary was 27/28, and that’s when her parents moved to Spain, to retire. It does seem like Hillary and her family went on vacation to Spain several times during her childhood. But, again, that doesn’t make her Spanish and that doesn’t make Spain her home. It just means she grew up a massively privileged girl in a wealthy American family and she decided that her privilege meant she could pretend to be Spanish. And I’m so curious about whether Hillary’s brother was also inflicted with Fake Spanish Syndrome!!

She is a fool to think her past would not eventually come to light. Especially in age of rapid communication. What I am surprised by is how long it took for her to exposed.

    • Esmom says:

From what I have read — and it is more than is probably healthy, lol — people did try to call her out but she employed a team of trolls to heavily counter any negative comments with positive ones. And she blocked anyone who didn’t fawn all over her. I think it’s still happening, tbh. Seems like an exhausting way to live.

      • Seraphina says:

@Esmom, the ENTIRE story behind this is very bizarre. From her defense of what she did, Alec’s defense of her to her then stating her fear of Alex and the violence he is capable of. I really think there is something wrong with her and it’s not her fake Spanish accent.

      • Bettyrose says:

Seraphina- She says she’s afraid of Alec? Or she’s afraid he’ll punch someone else over this? I missed that piece. (Aren’t we all a little afraid Alec is gonna punch someone, tho?)

      • Seraphina says:

@Betty Rose, I may have it wrong, if someone can clarify……………

      • Sarah says:

It was Twitter detective Leni Briscoe who said she is afraid Alec will punch her, which is a valid concern.

      • Tinnie says:

I looked at her Insta and at least the first bazillion comments on her ‘clarity’ post are all fawning so, yeah, something is going on there. Whereas Alec’s has lots of critical ones. Great comments here. Want to check out Reddit now!

      • Hotsauceinmybag says:

@seraphina. I’m starting to agree with you. I’m on the Reddit thread that’s been started for this topic and I started a sub there discussing her mysterious “broken ankle” from November that she started exercising on 13 days after she “broke” it. I really am starting to think something is wrong with her emotionally and mentally. I am fascinated by this, as we all are, but I also don’t know how to feel about her. Mad? Sympathetic? Grossed out? Idk. Something is off her.

      • Carol says:

@hotsauce – there is this interesting trend where doctors have patients with broken ankles immediately try to walk on it and do physical therapy. My young niece fractured her ankle and I thought it was malpractice that her doctor had her immediately try walking during the day on that broken ankle – Until I did a little more research and found out about this trend. If a patient can withstand the pain, the theory goes that it’s best to keep the ankle moving so ligaments etc don’t atrophy and stiffen. I broke my ankle in 2 places a couple years ago and had plates inserted so this treatment wouldn’t have worked for me. Anyway, this may explain why Hilaria started exercising soon after her accident.

    • Kelly says:

Same! Social media has been a thing for a while now. I cant believe she could keep up such a ridiculous and poorly-thought charade for a decade.

      • Soupie says:

Wonder how talks are going behind the scenes at SNL, where Alec is a pseudo regular. I’d like to be a fly on that wall. You know this story is perfect SNL fodder!

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Didn’t it all start with a tweet?

    • TriendnTried says:

Yoga teachers mostly have immunity from suspicion- students are so self absorbed, they just want an adept engaging teacher? No one thought to question her “accento” & she had a lot of time to practice her schtick before Alec & celebrity happened. “Guru” might be the one profession where ppl assume honesty. I mean, one of the tenants of yoga is “Satya” meaning truthfulness- but now we’re seeing soooo many of the big yoga teachers are absolute BS and/or predatory etc. Not saying she’s “predatory” because it’s not clear Alec was in on her grift?

    • minx says:

I’ve always liked AB as an actor, loved him as Jack Donaghy. And he champions progressive causes, so the right wing NY Post is loving this story. But it’s the Baldwins’ own damn fault. HB is obviously deceptive and either AB didn’t do due diligence on her or he knew and didn’t care because he wanted the hot young wife. Those videos of AB imitating her “Spanish” accent and of her “how you say cucumber”—ouch. So embarrassing.

      • Anne Call says:

Yes, I love 30 Rock so much and I don’t want this mess to take away that. He’s trying really hard to do that though, especially with the anti vaxxer screed. But my love for that show will endure. He’s a psycho and a moron and yeah he’s liberal but I think also a serious narcissist and I can’t imagine him being hired for anything at this point…Thoughts and prayers to Tina Fey.

  2. Amy Bee says:

I’m curious to know when she started pretending to be Spanish and why did she decide to do it? I guess we will never know because she refuses to admit that she faked being Spanish to begin with.

    • Seraphina says:

Right! She keeps going with the story. But we have a President who keeps going with his reality that he won the election – so nothing surprises me.

      • Julie says:

He did win the election, in a landslide. Biden just stole it. Were you watching on election night the 5 swing states where trump is ahead & they stop counting? Then magically in morning, Biden is ahead with all the phony vote dumping.
Our country is being taken over by China, Trump is just in the way.

      • BeanieBean says:

Julie: if this is sarcasm, it’s not really coming through.

    • pottymouth pup says:

the old neighbor mentioned that family fell in love with Majorca when Baldwin’s brother went there on a school exchange trip – which sounds like he was an exchange student which is usually during High School (most students in exchange programs are around 16-17 years old). Hillary is only 2 years younger than her brother so the family’s love affair with Majorca & family trips over there didn’t start until she was a teenager so even her “I grew up splitting my time between Spain & the US” narrative doesn’t hold water.

In the NYT interview, the language she uses to present the facts to claim she wasn’t lying when she’d previously said she moved to the US to attend NYU when she was 19 shows her continuing the obfuscation

“The things I have shared about myself are very clear. I was born in Boston. I spent time in Boston and in Spain. My family now lives in Spain. I moved to New York when I was 19 years old and I have lived here ever since.”

she’s being very specific in a way you know she’s intentionally misleading people to draw the conclusion that she’s from Spain. She’s intentionally not saying she moved to NY from Boston and ensuring there’s a reference to her family living in Spain prior to mentioning she moved to NY when she was 19 just as she did in the video

Blonde lady: “so you lived with your parents . . .”
Baldwin: “no, no, no, I moved here when I was 19 to go to NYU”
      Blonde lady: “ah . . .
      Baldwin: “and . . . ”
      Blonde lady: “from . . ”
Baldwin: “from , my family lives in Spain, they live in Majorca” she ends the statement with a “hmmm” knowing look/head tilt/nod & hand gesture that leads the other lady to say “so yeah, that makes sense, you wouldn’t know the pop culture of . . .” and Baldwin saying she knew no pop culture anywhere but now she’s better

      • Noodle says:

@pottymouthpup, thank you for pointing out how her diction and the structure in which she shared her story were deliberately hiding the truth. I will give her credit – she was quite masterful in that presentation of facts.

      • MM2 says:

This is a great one bird/two stone interview. She’s inferring she’s from Spain & that, since she’s not from the US, that explains how she didn’t know who Alec Baldwin was (biggest side eye ever).

      • Ohpioneer says:

She’s so full of mierda. However it is possible to grow up here in the US and not be in touch with pop culture. I have a 36 year old coworker who has zero pop culture references. I once had to explain to her who Cardi B and Niki Minaj were. And I’m in my 60s. 🙄 But in this instance she is just lying plain and simple. She’s so desperate for attention it is sad. She really is the poster child for attention ho Instagramers.

      • TriendnTried says:

In my 30’s I worked two or three jobs to make ends meet, also literally saving to finish a degree. I didn’t have a tv, computer or smartphone & lived 5 min from work, so had no commuter “down-time”. I met loads of famous ppl I did not know about- thank God- I would have been star struck. So 20yrs ago- some of us seriously didn’t know pop culture or much of current events. Alec is my age ,so it would have been plausible to him as an excuse? HE worked a ton too & when we were kids there wasn’t this constant media bombardment- if we didn’t have it here in the US it’s plausible she didn’t have it there in Spain, plausibly.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        Potty mouth
She has said and I think it was confirmed the family did vacation on the resort island before her brother went there for school. This is just the neighbor’s recollection.

If anyone can clear this up… so, she has no heritage there? No 2nd cousin to visit? She just went there a few times with family, her brother went there on an exchange program, but she didn’t and her parents recently retired to there? And she’s claiming she grew up there and is of That heritage? She’s really running with this lie

      • TriendnTried says:

She’s a good liar, no doubt. I am virtually isolated during covid but I let kids hang w their friend bubble. It does not include every kid he’s ever known. There is a busy body mom who is known for “covid shaming”. No one hung w her before the pandemic anyway- we all have ppl like that in our hood? Anyway, I DO have to lie to her & I lie like HIaria. I’m not SPECIFIC, but find myself “implying” and or changing the subject. I guess I’m good at “hilaria’ing” 🙂 🙂

      • Julie says:

Agree. She had to keep up narrative of not knowing pop culture because she saw Alec & pretended not to know who he was. Similar to Meghan telling Harry she did not know about Royal Family. Oh please. Two grifters after the Golden Ring.

      • BeanieBean says:

OK, Julie, now I’m on to you. Meghan & Hilaria are not at ALL similar.

    • TriendnTried says:

@wiglet watcher I’ve read everything on the story. Ask me anything! Not super proud but guess I had an appetite for pop culture at the end of 2020….she has ZERO heritage either in or around Spain. Everyone’s DNA could have random things, but her father’s American Heritage pre-dates the American Revolution. Her mother’s family hails from Nebraska I believe.

  3. Esmom says:

“Pseudo Spaniard.” Lol. Sounds like her brother paved the way for this schtick but it also sounds like he didn’t assimilate as well as she thinks she did. It is, how you say, hilari-ous.

  4. Bre says:

Ah, there is always a neighbor to set the record set. I would totally be that neighbor!

    • Chanteloup says:

I literally lol’ d at the fact she so pissed off her neighbors years ago with her snottiness that they are willing to go on the record with the quote of her yelling ‘I’ve lived here 19 years!!”
Oh karma, karma is such a bitch, when you are one to everyone around you

    • Kate says:

I love everything about this story but I don’t think the neighbor who admittedly didn’t know them that well is the most credible source. Don’t we all have that neighbor with a chip on his/her shoulder bc your dog pooped on their lawn once or you had a guest over who partially blocked their driveway or some other petty reason? If they weren’t friends with the family I dont’ know how they’d know their vacation itinerary. Meaning the family could have been traveling to Spain for vacations her entire life but only narrowed in on Majorca after her brother was an exchange student there.

She’s still batshit I just don’t buy this as totally blowing apart her whole story. She’s always been so careful with her wording to not get caught in an outright lie and she said in the NYT her family went at least once a year so I tend to think that’s true I just think it was like on a vacation basis and they had some local friends there who she now considers to be her “roots” in Spain (lmao I can’t)

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        Kate
I think the neighbor still holds water.
They are speaking of an encounter where Hillary said she lived there for x amount of years claiming it as her residence. And he knew the brother was an exchange student. In those communities you’re not close, but neighbors do chat politely. I think this falls in to that credibility.

    • shanaynay says:

      As would I! LOL!

    • msromperstomper says:

I mean, we all know the neighbor is “that” neighbor who needs the barest excuse to launch into gossip, but I’m still here for it!

  5. Mrs. Peel says:

    Ama de casa desesperada!

  6. Sayrah says:

I expect we’ll be getting more fun stories like this one in the days to come. What a mess

    • Sarah says:

Yessssssss. Here we go with the on the record neighbours and classmates!

    • Still_Sarah says:

@ Sayrah : I’m amazed that anyone tries cons like this anymore. The internet tells all! The only way to get away with it (the con) is to be someone who isn’t really that important or high profile AND who lives far away from their original life. So then there aren’t any neighbours who remember an “alternate reality” (Kelly Conway) from the one being sold to the public.

  7. Jane Doe says:

This quote from the article “She was a very entitled young lady.” She has continued to feel entitled to claim a culture and lie about her connection to it. The entitlement will never end. It’s been her path to more wealth.

  8. Megs says:

You know, I went to poorly funded public schools in the Deep South, and my dream life was her actual background (we’re the same age). The difference is that instead of then pretending to be a New England prep, I made the life I wanted by working hard and ending up in Boston for graduate school. No one would have any issues if she’d moved to Spain after college and made the decision to live her life there. But there’s a vast gulf between choosing to live your adult life a certain way and recasting your entire background to fit the new image (and the ability to do so, I should say, is a reflection of her privilege as a white woman).

    • Noodle says:

@megs, this is 100% white privilege. You are spot on.

    • Delphi says:

“There’s a vast gulf between choosing to live your adult life a certain way and recasting your entire background to fit the new image” – THIS! Megs, you’ve really nailed it!

    • Fabiola says:

I don’t think this has anything to do with being white or privileged. I think she may be mentally ill or had something traumatic happen to her that in her mind she made another reality. She could also just be a con artist.

      • Megs says:

I guess the point about white privilege is not why she did it but the fact that she got away with it. If you’re a POC, your race dictates/limits how the world sees you, unfortunately. In Hilaria’s case, she could choose to present herself as a Spaniard or a Bostonian and not be questioned for many years. Not everyone is afforded that flexibility.

  9. Oo says:

    “Chica, por favor.”

    💃

  10. Sam the Pink says:

This is really the gift that keeps on giving, because people are just so unwilling to let this go and she and her husband keep throwing gas on it by insisting she’s actually Spanish.

I am still confused as to how I am supposed to feel about this – offended? upset? tickled by the irony of it all? Gleeful? All of the above? I still haven’t figured out how to figure this one out!

    • Esmom says:

I’m honestly just grateful for a juicy gossip distraction, one that has nothing to do with Trump and his attempts, supported by way too many people who should know better, to cling to power.

      • Fabiola says:

I agree. This is just too funny and keeps getting better.

      • Julie says:

Cling to power? Ha! Election steal. Biden did not get more votes than Obama, the guy is a criminal & owned by China. It’s not about Trump, it’s about our country not going Communist.

    • Myra says:

Honestly, for me this is just a hilarious story with crazy twists here and there. As @Esmom said, it serves as a distraction, but I can understand how others may find it offensive given how they are treated for having an accent in the US.

    • Jamie says:

The fact that they refuse to admit the grift is exactly why in so interested. The more they deny, the more intrigued I get.

    • TriendnTried says:

I switch between gratitude (this veers away from the last days of disastrous trump monarchy) then sometimes I’m pist. My mom & grandparents were actually ESL Hispanic- they are likely euro decent, but STILL had to take it on the chin & walk the line to “prove” themselves in America. They worked tirelessly to give subsequent posterity some standing & what we’d now call “empowerment, opportunities as entrepreneurs etc. So this hard won respectable generational identity was just STOLEN by Hillary. These rewards are NOT hers. Also she denigrates & fetishizes the Hispanic personae by purring at her explosively angry husband & naming her kids after the cast of Dora the Explorer. My grandparents lost their beautiful names (Aurellia & Enrico) to Harry & Ester to make it easier for American associates. Ugh. So whilst I almost want to write hillary a thank you letter for distraction, I’ll hold off because she STILL needs to educate herself on many levels- Apologize- & educate the online trolls who STILL dont get it!!

      • Christina says:

Exactly. Hilaria’s story can be entertaining, but she’s a poster child for white privilege and narcissistic sociopathy. She won’t be apologizing unless some publicist on her husband’s team forces her.

My maternal grandmother was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and my maternal grandfather was born in the US of Mexican parents. My estranged father was born in Mexico. They made sure that their kids could be Mexican at home, but anglicized in the world so that they wouldn’t experience racism. My Black and Mexican family members code switch. The ones who don’t suffer financially. Me and a cousin of mine pass for white and speak perfect English, so we don’t have it as hard.

Hilaria and her enabler spouse are insensitive, ignorant assholes.

      • Esmom says:

I hear you. As entertained as I am by this sh^tshow, I don’t think it’s a harmless little whim she perpetrated. What she did is reprehensible. My parents were also treated like garbage when they immigrated here in the early 50s. Openly mocked for their accents and their poverty. They didn’t have the luxury of cosplaying some glamorous little game.

      • Fabiola says:

Why does she have to apologize for giving her children Spanish names? Parents can give their kids names outside their own language. I’m not French but I plan on giving my daughter a French name because I like it.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        Fabiola
Because you like the names is so far off point no one is shading this woman for naming her children names she liked.
It’s all part of a decade long international grift to boost her financial and social standings… along with maybe some psychological issues.

      • TriendnTried says:

A “straw man” defense is where someone fabricates an issue. NO ONE is upset she “embraces” a culture, (speaks a 2nd language, names her kids Spanish names or wore a Mantilla at her wedding) The issue is she faked an entire Hispanic person complete w accent & monetized a false personae. She was paid for jobs as “Spanish Fitness expert”, “ESL mother of five who bounces back to fit body”, etc. Could an actual ESL person have held these positions & genuinely contributed to society? Will never know because she was paid as that person who came to the US, assimilated & succeeded.

  11. Roma says:

We did some deep dives on Reddit yesterday, and one thing that came up was that her dad has a blog post detailing how his love for Spain came to be. From what we can tell, the longest time he spent in Spain was 3 months in college. So, no way was she “raised” there.

Hilaria’s own grandfather commented (mom’s father) essentially being like “I had no idea you guys liked Spain so much!”

    • Midge says:

I went down the Reddit rabbit hole yesterday, too. Pure entertainment – the stories about her time at Yoga for the People and dating the rapist cult leader there, stealing clients to start Yoga Vida, how her BROTHER waked her down the isle because he’s “Spanish passing”. Dear lord she shady.

      • Roma says:

It was a wild ride of information yesterday. And just example after example of her claiming to be Spanish, all the while trying to gaslight people by saying no one ever said she was Spanish.

It’s like Costanza on Seinfeld: “it’s not a lie if you believe it.”

      • Midge says:

*brother walked her down the aisle

      • TriendnTried says:

Wow! The rapist cult leader in yoga for the people…fascinating. I said above, the reason no one questioned her Spain schtick early on IS because she was a yoga teacher & students just didn’t question bios back then. Now we see hear so many predatory cases in the yoga world. That culture can be messy- my BF sold 2 studios before covid. How lucky he was, tho he started to see the cringe grift & predatory BS & wanted OUT

      • shasha says:

Do you have the link to the reddit thread, or what subreddit is it on?

    • msromperstomper says:

What?!? The grandfather said that? Oh my god, I am literally cackling…

  12. Taffy says:

She made herself a target. And she was annoying people. It adds up and people want to out her. She only has herself to blame.
And as far as admitting the truth she will never do it. I wish we could say that shaming her for her lies will do the trick but it won’t. She gets off on any kind of attention she’s that sick.

    • FHMom says:

“People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw rocks.” She never learned this. When your back story is a complete lie, you need to be low key and humble. Chica has real mental health issues that are more serious than the outing of her background.

  13. Sofia says:

I reckon she made this thing up so that she could market herself as foreign and “exotic” (hate hate HATE that word when describing people) and I guess, interesting so she could land a Baldwin?

The whole thing is so bizarre

  14. Noki says:

Since this story came out,i have actually been enlighted by a lot of things concerning ‘whiteness.’ As a POC i am very aware of colorism within our own people. Apparently there is some sort of for lack of a better word hierarchy between different white backgrounds, some of the threads i read ,being a white Spaniard is not the same as being an English rose.

    • Loulou says:

You are totally right, I am German and people from Mediterranean countries certainly are not looked at as white as people from Scandinavia. Discrimination has many layers.

      • Haapa says:

I am Finnish and Canadian (citizenship in both countries) and my uncle made a rude comment about my sister having a baby with a Greek man. My mind was BLOWN. It’s disgusting.

    • shasha says:

There is absolutely colorism between different white ethnicities although it’s not called that and the “wrong” color isn’t always a darker one. For example, lots of gingers (redheads) get bullied in England for looking “Celtic” (Irish). It’s “less than” to look Celtic, because of the long history of English colonialism, subjugation, and exploitation of Ireland and Irish people.

There’s also a long history of white Protestants seeing white Catholics as “less than” and Catholic societies as less “proper.” It falls somewhat along colorism lines (with Spanish, Portuguese, and Italians being “darker”) but not entirely (Ireland, Poland and others are also Catholic countries.) We saw that discrimination in the US with discrimination by the WASPs (White Anglo-Saxon Protestants) against the Irish and Italians, and also in the UK with discrimination by the English against the Irish, and now, the current Polish immigrants.

  15. Lawcatb says:

Can you imagine what it’s like for their kids, with a rage monster father and a narcissistic grifter mother? Yikes!

  16. Teresa says:

I mean the worst to me is her Instagram video of her asking her child if she thinks her mom is worse/better than others because of her brown skin. Fine pretend to be Spanish, but not you’re brown facing for likes and accolades. Literally no one would look at you and clutch their pearls in a neighborhood or shoot a “warning shot” at you in a police situation. Do not fake oppression, particularly racial.

    • Midge says:

I agree with you. I am white and I get very, very tan from minimal sun exposure. I shook my head at the video. Speechless. But faking oppression is Hillary’s thing! Take for example, how this all started last week. Amy Schumer posted the photo of Hillary in lingerie, holding her 3 month old, and in a self-deprecating way Amy joked, “Happy holidays from Gene and me”. It wasn’t a dig at Hillary, it was Amy making a self-deprecating joke. But Hillary made it all about her and how she was being body shamed for being a fit new mom. She’s the victim you guys!! I am so glad that blew up in her face. On a side note, I would like to say that I think Amy Schumer does so much for new moms. She is open about her extremely difficult pregnancy, she promotes body acceptance and positivity, and she supports the maternal health charity Every Mother Counts.

      • JaneDoesWerk says:

I was never an Amy Schumer fan but I’m loving how open she is about her motherhood journey. Also, he’ll yes for her tampon commercials. I am one of those women who works in an all male workplace and I’m sick of hiding tampons in my pockets like I should be ashamed or something.

      • Sayrah says:

Yes, the over the top “defense” of herself against Amy Schumer’s clear flattery of Hilaria and personal self-deprecation is really making me love this story. Tear her down. She’s an entitled phony who has thought too bigly of herself for quite a while. I hope her kids are ok and like a PP said they’re in trouble with such a rage monster dad and this for a mom.

      • Amy Too says:

Janedoeswerk: and the stupid thing is that you have to be ashamed of tampons because it shows you’re menstruating, but if you were menopausal or post-menopause and didn’t need tampons anymore, then that would be “gross” and shameful, and if you had a hysterectomy that would be somehow “shameful” and something you should hide, and if you had some kind of medical issue where you didn’t have regular periods, that would also somehow be “shameful,” and if you had such heavy periods that a tampon wasn’t enough that would also be somehow “shameful.” Just… everything having to do with women, their uteruses, their reproductive health, their menstruation or lack of it… is somehow private/shameful.

      • Ann says:

I’ve seen Amy live. She’s very funny. She can be OTT for me at times, but in general I really like her. If you haven’t seen the “Twelve Angry Men” parody from her show, try to watch it. It’s brilliant.

    • Kate says:

Ugh I just watched that video too. So f**king stupid. No one thinks a pale, privileged white person is “better” than a (possibly fake) tan, privileged white person, Hillary. Also I know you have to simplify explanations of race to a 5 year old, but the whole “some people think they’re better than others or hate others just bc of the color of their skin” thing is so misleading to a kid. It’s how we have so many white people who don’t know they are racist because they don’t think they “hate” black or brown people.

    • Julie says:

That video was mucho bizarre. Carmen looked confused w/ her mom’s questions. And the video of MLK playing…Hysteria uses her kids as props to promote her agenda.

  17. chimes@midnight says:

well, how do you like them apples?

  18. Insomniac says:

From everything I’ve read, her family has a long-standing appreciation of Spain. So I don’t see why she couldn’t have just expressed her love for the country and its language rather than engage in this cringey Penelope Cruz cosplay. But I guess that wouldn’t have made her special enough.

    • jenn12 says:

She is bilingual, grew up wealthy, and married even wealthier. She could have been an ally who helped real immigrants, but she chose to be a culture vulture. She is not mentally ill. She’s a sociopathic liar who monetizes her family and her fake identity. She is entitled and trying to control the narrative and blame everyone else for the lies she perpetuated. Her wealthy husband ensured that all the interviews she got and the attention she received for being his wife did not allow journalists to ask questions because she claimed privacy. Now that she’s being called out with evidence provided by her statements, her entitlement is still going strong: “I did nothing wrong. Everyone misrepresented me. I didn’t read those statements saying I’m Spanish and/or Latina. You misunderstood when I said my parents couldn’t say Alec’s last name. Nothing is my fault and everyone should still want to work with me and follow me.”

    • lucy2 says:

Exactly. I think it’s great to travel, live in another country, learn another language, etc, but to create a whole fake persona, claim another culture as your own simply because you like it, and then double down repeatedly when called on the lie is NUTS.

  19. My3cents says:

While everyone was worried with Covid, this girl has been dealing with the Spanish Flu for ages, she really is a hero.

  20. Anna says:

I thought it funny at the beginning but I’m not so sure anymore. This woman is clearly not well and she should be left alone to have some distance and try to fix whatever is there to fix. I know she’s baiting the public with the Instagram posts but when will this stop? When she’ll shave her head in public like Britney Spears?

    • jenn12 says:

It was never funny. And she isn’t mentally ill. She’s a narcissist who grew up wealthy and married someone even richer and with a lot of fame. Her sense of entitlement has grown over time, and the fact that she is blaming everyone but herself for the statements she made, and the lies she puts out there points to a spoiled culture vulture who is finally being held accountable and doesn’t like it.

      • Jaded says:

Narcissism is a mental illness actually. From the Mayo Clinic website:

“Narcissistic personality disorder — one of several types of personality disorders — is a mental condition in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others.”

        Sound like someone we know?

    • Chaine says:

She is not mentally ill. She’s just a horrible person who isn’t responding well to being called out about it. Just wait, she will parlay this into a reality show or a memoir or something else lucrative.

    • Christina says:

Narcissistic sociopaths can’t be fixed. Leaving her alone only allows her to retrench and justify in her own mind why we are all wrong.

I have an unenviable association with a narcissistic sociopath.

      • Jaded says:

My late older sister was a malignant narcissist. Growing up in my household was like picking my way through a minefield. I get it – sorry about your situation.

      • jenn12 says:

I feel for anyone who has to deal with a narcissist. But anyone can have elements of disorders or mental illness- it’s easy to think we know what someone has. I don’t know about EElahhhreeeaaahh, but I do know that she grew up wealthy, going to superb private schools, and then married a wealthy actor with a lot of influence and attention. She uses her kids in a higher food chain level way than Tori Spelling, but she still does. She uses her daughter in horrible public posts- comparing their skin as though she were a POC and using her daughter’s emotions when miscarrying a baby (I now wonder if the miscarriage was even real because this woman’s need for attention is BEYOND). She deliberately misrepresented herself and then throws innocent people under the bus publicly. She seems self centered, manipulative, and just plain mean.

      • Christina says:

Thanks, Jaded. AWESOME name for us survivors, Jaded.

I’m sorry that you had to deal with it, too. Not fun having a Hilaria in your life. The range of just crazy sounding to potentially homicidal can be very stressful and unsettling. Sorry your sister died, but grateful that it ended for you. My kid and I keep hoping he dies of a heart attack or gets into the kind of trouble that kills him. We are safe now, thankfully.

      • Jaded says:

@Christina – thanks. Unfortunately my sister chose to end her life instead of getting therapy. I hope she’s happier where she is now. Blessings to you and your child for 2021 and I hope it brings you peace.

    • Mira says:

I wish people with no medical training would stop diagnosing other people on the internet. People they don’t know and haven’t even met. I don’t give two sh*ts about this fake Spanish lady, but it bothers me how diagnoses for mental illnesses are being casually thrown around like confetti. Every time it happens, someone on the internet starts taking metal illness less seriously and if/when this will happen for years and decades, it’s the people who actually are mentally ill – myself included – who will suffer. Diagnoses will slowly lose their value and importance, and we are already facing attitudes like depression is just laziness. I just wish all this would stop.

      • Christina says:

@Mira, I get what you are saying. I’m no psychiatrist and I’m not a doctor. My experience with narcissistic sociopaths comes from being in court for 10 years with one, and dealing with him for 7 years before that. The behaviors are really clear to survivors of one of these folks. Hilaria strikes me as on the low end of the spectrum. Trump is more like my ex. Thank goodness my ex didn’t have Baldwin-Trump money. The compulsive lying and lack of empathy and the performative parenting are lower key. My ex did all of that AND he tried to kill my kid. I can see a malignant narcissist from a mile away after all of the psychological custody evaluations and therapy and books and trauma. I don’t find the Hilaria situation funny. I find it dangerous to her children’s well being and to Latina culture and survival.

Color me an armchair fool. I hear you, but some of us commenters are survivors.

      • Jaded says:

Mira, we may not have medical/psychiatric/psychological training but we’ve lived the truth and had to figure it out on our own. My late sister was definitely a malignant narcissist and made my life and my parent’s lives a living hell. I was never happier than when she stormed out of the house in a hellish rage for the last time and didn’t come back. She lied, cheated, obfuscated, blamed and terrorized both family and friends. After her traumatic death in 1989 (suicide) I dove deep into reading everything I could find on personality disorders so I’m not pontificating from my armchair without having a good deal of background knowledge. She meets every criteria on the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders).

I understand that many people throw around diagnoses of mental health problems without truly understanding them, but we who have had to live through trying/dangerous situations have had to learn and comprehend what drove our family members or partners to behave so horribly.

  21. JaneDoesWerk says:

The fact that she is so obviously full of shit and is still blaming everyone but herself is super disturbing. She reminds me of that Theranos founder and the head of the Fyre Festival. Lady, you’re a con artist and it’s gross.

Neighbor hit it on the head, she’s entitled. I also get the impression that her and Alec have the type of relationship where he doesn’t really interact with her family much. He’ll pay for things and endorse her brothers dumb ass products or whatever, but I don’t picture him sitting down with her parents over a cup of coffee and just talking/spending time together. I think he’s in denial, believes what she tells him because he wants to believe that and isn’t willing to hear anything else. As a celebrity, he’s already in a bubble so it was probably pretty easy for her to manipulate that to her advantage.

    • FHMom says:

I would really love to know what Alec knows and when he learned the truth. I mean, does she fake an accent around him? They are both a study on mental health.

      • JaneDoesWerk says:

Right?! Maybe he has some weird fetish with accents or something. He definitely played up her accent and “culture” every chance he got. Maybe it’s less complicated than we think and they’re just too entitled white people living in a world of privilege with so much money they have no idea what struggles actual Immigrants face. They kinda remind me of the residents of the capital in the Hunger Games.

      • Sandra says:

I watched a video last night of clips of Alec in various interviews (Letterman, Stern, Ellen) talking about how his wife is Spanish. He plays up the accent when he’s impersonating her way more than she does. My personal belief is that he was totally into the fraud from the beginning. That he wanted her to play his fantasy of her being Spanish. Given Alec’s history of rage and violence, he’s clearly off balance too.

    • Jayna says:

I would imagine her parents find this distasteful and don’t want anything to do with it. Both of her parents are highly educated, having had very successful careers, and still very driven people. They’ve created another life after retirement, and it isn’t just sitting around on the beach. They co-founded International Integrators, and if you go on their site, they, along with many other people who write on there, are passionate about food and wellness, etc., and have retreats through the organization. There is zero mention on there of their daughteror her being married to Alec Baldwin. I’m sure they don’t want this Hilaria/Alec circus intruding upon their good name and reputation.

      • Anne Call says:

I read that her brother has some sort of nutritional supplement company and the mom gave it a glowing endorsement as a doctor (she has a different last name) but not disclosing that this was her son’s company. I don’t know they sound pretty shady also.

  22. Kyla says:

I think Alec is completely aware of the grifting and has happily gone along with it, because he likes what it said about him. That he, a senior citizen, landed a hot, bendy, “exotic” Penelope Cruz type, and then his virility knocked her up six times. He’s in on the game and I bet he’s known about long before they got married.

On another note, I used to listen to Alec’s podcast about a year or two ago. He had some good guests and was a decent interviewer. But, I wish someone would throw all of his fawning about the director James Toback, who he refers to fondly as “Jimmy”, back into face for a comment on all the MeToo stuff that came out about Toback. From what I remember, the way he talked about Toback, there’s no way he didn’t know what Toback was doing. He knew and he seemed to approve.

  23. Hyperbolme says:

This story is crazy. Like many people, I didn’t care enough before to really watch any clips with her in them, but I watched a video of her yesterday telling a reporter she was taking Alec to. “España”…. Said with an accent but also pronouncing the S very clearly. Who could have fallen for this grift?!?

Can anyone point me to the Subreddit where this deep dive discussion is happening? So interesting that the more info comes out the more clear it is she has zero real ties to Spain. Also- anyone have more info on a rumor I saw about her possibly having stalked Alec and creating the opportunities for their first meetings?

    • Miss617 says:

Agreed that it was a ridiculous grift no one should’ve fallen for, but the characteristic Spanish lisp only occurs on soft Cs and Zs, so España is said with a clear S, while the funniest word to hear in a Spanish accent is the word for beer, “cerveza” which is said more like “therbaytha”.

    • Jamie says:

I would love to know where to find that reddit thread too! Its gonna be a long weekend and I look forward to the entertainment.

    • Sunniva says:

Just look up Hilaria Baldwin, there are lots of threads.

Also, in one of them is a YouTube video from 2014, where Alec Baldwin clearly says her paternal grandmother is Spanish! He goes into great detail. I am guessing he might have been – how do you say- gatopezed? 🙂 initally to a point regarding her upbringing and supposed relations in Spain although he must have known her parents were white anglo-americans and her name was Hillary, but at some point he surely must have realized what she was doing.

      • Sandra says:

There’s also a video of Hillary saying “35 to 40 of my family members come from Spain.”

      • Sunniva says:

@Sandra, yes, that one she tried to explain away in one of the latest videos with a claim these were people coming to the wedding whom she “regarded as family”..

    • Gemma says:

Hyperbolm, Hilaria was friends with the owner of a restaurant called Pure Foods. The owner knew Alec frequented the restaurant and told Hilaria about him. Hilaria asked the owner to call her next time Alec came in. Her claim that she didn’t know who Alec was is an absolute lie. Interesting side note – the owner of the restaurant went to prison for several years for embezzling millions of dollars from the restaurant. Hilaria hangs out with shady characters.

  24. Milkweed says:

Their kids are so white. I always thought that was odd if she was naturally tan with dark brown hair. It also sounds like she doesn’t eat enough and brags about it. She’s insufferable.

    • JaneDoesWerk says:

Well I will say that my brother and sister in laws kids look white as hell and just like him despite having a mother with deep olive skin, black hair, dark brown eyes. She is South African and her kids are blonde, blue eyed, and pale like their Irish-American dad. But even so, this whole situation is bizarre and gross.

      • Milkweed says:

Yeah, I know it’s not unusual for kids to take after one parent, so it didn’t raise a big flag, but now with everything else, it’s very cringe.

  25. SKE says:

Also, on her IG one of her highlights is a text from her brother in Spanish. So maybe they are in on this delusion together.

  26. Christina says:

    “Chica, por favor.”

Thanks, Kaiser!! You are a goddess of gossip!

  27. Julia K says:

Next up; the announcement that she will seek rehab for “issues”.

  28. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I grew up on the border of Mexico, and I took my first son back every couple of months to be with my parents. He actually told his elementary school class I was Mexican. When I got wind of that, we all had a good laugh and still bring it up occasionally embarrassing him. 😋 Going through all this, growing up where and how I did (minority), speaking the language and losing accents to appease mother, I can’t wrap my head around a grown woman living this kind of lie. And doing so in this age of information shows an unbelievable amount of hubris.

  29. Midge says:

Check out Notskinnybutnotfat on IG for Alec’s explanation from 2014: https://www.instagram.com/p/CJYxfE5hSFu/

And this gem from the Kirke sisters, who moved to the US when they were 5 and 10 years old: https://www.instagram.com/p/CJZlvGohwQ_/

    • Sunniva says:

That`s the one I was referring to, thanks 🙂 Hard to believe he would lie about such an easy verifiable fact? I am guessing he bought this as far as the story about the grandmother and wasn`t interested in looking into it.

    • lucy2 says:

Wow, they never had their stories straight from the beginning! LOL.

The other Kirke sister is pretty funny in that clip. It makes sense Jemima would have an accent though, if she has British parents and didn’t move to the US until she was 10. I would have thought the younger sister would have too, but maybe she tried to get rid of it early on.
Moving around a lot when your younger can definitely affect an accent, I think Anna Paquin’s is kind of a mix of several too.
But you don’t acquire an accent to your native language after going on vacation a few times.

  30. Pugglebum says:

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but is her name pronounced like the first part of hilarious or like Hilary-a. Thank you in advance!

    • Jamie says:

I believe its pronounced E-lar-e-uh with a heavy emphasis on the first E and a rolled R. But I could be mistaken. I never paid much attention to her until this story broke.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

I haven’t heard her pronounce it but it sounds like the Italian female name – ilaria pronounced E-lar-e-ah.

Like Ave Maria – she picked a Latin sounding name and is passing it off as Spanish. Maybe she got Spain and Italy mixed up? Its obvs that she’s non too bright.

  31. Jules says:

Lmfao, the part where she says if my parents move to China, I’ll say “I’m from China”. Her publicist is living a nightmare right now.

  32. Jamie says:

HB reminds me of one of those movies where someone goes undercover, and they’re so entrenched in the fake life they don’t know how to integrate back into their real life. I’m trying to think of a serious example, but all I can think of is Adrian Pimento from Brooklyn Nine Nine.

All these denials make her look even more foolish! She has nothing to lose by coming clean! She’s still going to be a wealthy woman with a famous husband and 5 lovely children who gets to travel to Spain to vacation and visit her family. She’ll probably even retain all her followers too.

Hilaria, you can lie to us all you want. Just make sure you’re not lying to yourself!

  33. anp says:

Wondering if Alex ask his wife parents about them being from Spain. Why did not her parents come out with the truth?

Did Alex know the truth about her real identity?

  34. Natters5 says:

I think everyone and every article on this subject is missing the real truth. Hillary and her husband set off to make her a brand just like their Hampton neighbor GOOPy. Her husband managed to get her an agent at CAA based on his fame and connections. In brainstorming on how to make her happen and be a brand I am 100% sure the agent convinced her to push her faux Spanish background to have her stand out a little bit more as she really brings nothing to the table other than spitting out little Baldwins almost every year. She, Alec and her agent concocted her image to get her work and create her mommy/yoga brand that was going to emulate the GOOP brand. However it was a poorly thought out plan and now she is paying the piper. It is in the end all about money and Alec trying to please his narcissist wife, the Spanish appropriation is just a very strange side bar of this whole fiasco and that is why she is having such a hard time justifying it without sounding wacko or money/fame hungry.

    • shanaynay says:

      All good points.

    • damejudi says:

      This x100.

She’s got a lot of kids to provide for if hubs divorces her or passes away. Now her “brand” is completely trashed.

Plus, a lie is a lie is a lie-whether she actually uttered the words, or neatly sidestepped questions/comments. Yes, Hilary, if you don’t correct the misinformation, you are lying by omission.

    • Jayna says:

Excellent points, or as Hilaria Baldwin would say, excelentes puntos.

      • Christina says:

        BWAH hahahaha!!!

      • Natters5 says:

Funny thing is my family is Latin and I was born in American and none of us have accents in either English or Spanish so I just don’t understand where this accent is coming from??

    • Fabiola says:

I think they have gone too far with this lie that they don’t know how to end it. They will never admit the truth.

    • Tourmaline says:

Great points about the branding and CAA. I am also certain CAA were big on positioning her in publications such as Hola and Latina. It was interesting in The NY Times article she threw CAA under the bus for mistakenly listing her as born in Spain, saying she wasn’t happy with them.

Just looking at her recent instagram posts I was surprised at how many sponsored posts she does. A ton of different brands including Bissell vacuums, Fisher-Price toys, Spindrift water, just to name a few. Curious to see how this affects her endorsements and her podcast and other stuff.

      • Natters5 says:

She would have not gotten any of these endorsements without the help of CAA but I am sure it was Alec who arranged the NYT article where she throws them under the bus.

  35. lowercaselois says:

So it turns out she is just a plain white girl from an upper class neighborhood in Boston , who moved to NYC to become a yoga instructor, while she seeked out her fame and fortune. If you can make it in New York City, you can make it anywhere. To switch things up, you know what would be funny ,if Hilaria/Hillary would start talking in a Boston accent. Sort of make fun of herself . Like “Pahk the cah in Havahd Yahd.” I am hungry for “ Lobstah.” I wonder how she is going to spin her brand now?

  36. dawnchild says:

I must say I’m fine with Alec being mocked at and muddied with all this. He had Woody Allen and Soon Yi at his wedding…says everything about him to me. He can go sit in a corner with the other liars

  37. NYStateofMind says:

Wow a white, rich, bratty, narcissist from a wealthy suburb of Boston, shocking.

  38. MsIam says:

This reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry thought he was dating an Asian woman and not “some girl from Long Island”, lol. Only it sounds like Alec was in on the grift too.

  39. Sayrah says:

Someone mentioned stern upthread. I am curious to hear what Howard has to say about this next week. He would usually be all over something like this for at least an hour but Alec is on his show all the time. I don’t know that he will be willing to call him out. However, he did have fun with Alec’s infamous voicemail he left for Ireland many years ago. I guess we’ll listen and see.

He’s pretty clever. He went on letterman after Dave’s scandal and really went after the story. It was so over the top and in the end helped Dave get past the scandal.

  40. Zantasia says:

Uh…did neither of her parents or any of her family ever watch her interviews or read her Instagram? Or childhood friends? This is so odd.

  41. L4frimaire says:

This is just so funny to me. An upper class WASP, whose family dates back to before the Revolutionary War, the all-American ideal and epitome of what we’re told to emulate, felt that wasn’t enough. She crafted a fake persona because the one Edith Wharton and Henry James wrote about was lacking. Paella and tapas over clam bakes and lobster rolls. She probably has the mind of a serial killer.

  42. Freddy says:

I just found out someone I know lived directly across the street from the Thomas family in Boston and said the family was “that” family on their street: noone could stand them. HA!

  43. Saralee says:

People like this come to believe their own lies !!!!! Trust me I was married to one

  44. Louisa says:

So I just went down the Reddit rabbit hole and something that surprised me that I hadn’t seen mentioned before is her hot ex-boyfriend (believed to be Cuban but not confirmed) that she follows on IG and comments (with hearts and flame emojis) / likes every single one of his posts. And the best part is that his name is Edu….the name of her last kid.

  45. clare says:

So… what will she do with her Spanish accent now? What a dilemma.

  46. w says:

In the longer version of her cucumber video, she isn’t able to sustain her effected fake accent long so I think anyone that knew her knew it was fake: https://www.insider.com/hilaria-baldwin-cucumber-video-full-today-show-clip-2020-12

Also, I saw a video of her speaking Spanish & she only speaks using simple grammatical structure in present tense, which is what I read other commenters said about her speaking Spanish in other videos apparently.

So it doesn’t sound like you could have known her & known or tried to know anything about Spain or Spanish or Latin America. Or immigrants. Or being a baby in a home in which NATIVE SPEAKERS OF a language other than English AND English were spoken. Or multicultural home. Or children of immigrants. Or multilinguals. Or or even what American English sounds like regularly . . .

And not known sooner or later.

I’m not at all surprised about the neighbor article & apparent comment here. As I commented on the last article, she didn’t just represent she was a Spaniard & Latina rather that she was THE authority on Spanish authenticity, in this video. And she acknowledged she was the best in Latina fashion, publicly. Both in front of Spanish-speaking audiences.

So she is the one telling all of us including those of us that are actually a number of things she pretends to be are apparently too ignorant to know what it is like to speak 2 languages. (Many Europeans speak more than that & some of us do too).

The comments said no one had ever heard her speak Catalan &, supposedly, if she were truly from Mallorca, she would. I don’t know that much about Mallorca so can’t speak on that. She doesn’t seem to understand about regional subtleties within a European country, however. She doesn’t even seem to have ever resided in Spain or lived there.

I saw her father’s internet comment that at some point in his late teens or so he finally went to Argentina, on apparently his first visit to a Spanish-speaking country, & considered himself quite fluent in Spanish by the end of high school. They seem to conflate Argentine with Spain & all of Latin America sometimes as they talk about their “deep, deep, deep bonds” to Spain.

I read commenters say they never heard her use any tense other than present in Spanish. I don’t know the Mallorcan Spanish accent well enough to comment on her accent or dialect. I too only heard her use present tense in a short clip.

In my mind, I’m simply going to refer to her as cucumber since in this video she pretends to forget the word twice in a row so hopefully she is not ever going to forget it again.

I’m not sure though it sounds like she plans to keep lecturing us on yoga, authenticity, learning a second language, immigration, multiculturalism, female ethnic minorities, appropriation, racism & multilingualism & keep speaking in her fake accent.

    • Plucker says:

Plus any Spanish speaker ie- born and raised speaking Spanish as a first language could immediately tell a fake Spanish accent.
This sham is laughable from so many perspectives. Especially pathetic bully Alexander Baldwin still trying to defend his lyin’ ass wife.

      • w says:

Do you mean when she speaks Spanish or English? I can tell in the longer cucumber clip when she speaks English though I am not native Spanish speaker. I studied Spanish started at age 11 through university. I don’t know the Spanish from Spain accents or dialects well enough to say when I listened to her speaking Spanish in a video briefly.

Apparently, she has been doing the fake Spanish accent teaching yoga in English consistently for years: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/13621568/hilaria-baldwin-aggressive-yelled-traumatized-yoga-student-lawsuit-spain/

So her excuse for her fake Spanish accent doesn’t make any sense because those in Mallorca that know her family say the family speaks to each other in English & the parents aren’t even fluent, it sounds like rather understand: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9096541/Majorcan-friends-Hilaria-Baldwins-family-claim-theyve-never-met-fake-Spaniard.html

I’m happy they are covering this story in Spain. I have huge respect for Spanish-language cultures & I thought it well known for those that do that one should not ever say they are a native speaker if they are not. That simply is not done. I see that as highly disrespectful so her excuse doesn’t make any sense at all.

I clicked on the link though could not see the text in Spanish from her brother. It sounds like her brother moved to Spain when she was about 22, about the time after which she would have graduated from university so it makes no sense she says she was raised there. The people from Mallorca say they have never heard of her.

I am so thankful so many have spoken up about this since some have had horrible things happen to their families under colonialism & other situations & it feels like a loss all over again when white people like her & Alec Baldwin & that Hollywood Reporter journalist, a white male, say that no one is allowed to speak up about this. It is like an individualized form of colonialism & appropriation trying to silence people that really actually went through these situations & those that speak on their behalf because they lost so much as a result they are unable to.

I am thankful too so many have been writing in the press about how this is indeed harmful & have included concrete examples of her holding herself out as Latina as when she accepted being named to the best dressed Latinas list & spoke of being mistaken for her children’s nanny.

My dad risked his life over & over again while very young in extremely dangerous situations for the Allies to ensure my right to speak. So thanks to him, on his & my behalf & on behalf of his & my family who died under colonialist efforts. I speak & Alec Baldwin, that white male guest columnist & cucumber can’t stop it. I speak on my dad’s behalf too about discrimination he suffered after his service as a war hero veteran. Also, those of us speaking are speaking the truth, & they are not so the truth is going to win.

I have had European relatives that live in Europe since I was born. I yearned to see & know them more & at least one has passed so that’s impossible. However, I did spend time in Europe, including in effort to do so, & have too much respect to say I am European like they. I made regular trips to Spanish-speaking countries starting very young. Everything she is doing is hugely disrespectful to everyone. This is just insult to injury to speak in this manner of situations leading us to be spread everywhere.

What this whole thing made me realise is that as a Mediterranean European (I’m greek ) I’m somehow not considered white in the US and I find this so entertaining 😁

If she has to make such an elaborate explanation, she’s just reaching and lying. Enough.

If she spent time in say Malaysia or Singapore during her youth, it won’t make her Chinese, Malay, Indian or Eurasian! She’s a white lady who has a second home abroad. That’s it!

So many questions… does Alec really believe it? What do her parents think? Did she ever really go to school in Spain? Someone commented above that no one would’ve judged her if she’d wanted to move there as an adult because she loves Spain – but she never has! Why not? Such a fun story. Personally, I didn’t know until all this came out that she said she was Spanish because I only read about her in places like this, and it hadn’t occurred to me that Hilaria was supposed to be a Spanish name… What do Spanish people think of her? I’ve also found it interesting to see different conceptualisation of whiteness in America than in Europe.

I went to Majorca on vacation last year…am I Spanish too?!!!

Kidding. But for reals it is absolutely gorgeous. Clearest waters I’ve ever had the privilege to swim in. I can imagine why they’d want retire there.

Hilaria Baldwin is annoying for many reasons — but mostly because she’s a snake oil salesperson like her mother. Hilaria, with no credentials whatsoever (at least her mom is an MD), is (with the assistance of CAA) marketing herself as a “health guru.” The average local cheerleader knows as much (if not more) about healthful practices. And Alec (who one might consider to be her main project) has aged a decade since he met her. So Hilaria is annoying mostly for being an opportunistic fraud. I saw a post on an NYU website that pointed out Hilaria and Alec call themselves “a good team.” It’s not about parenting (the paid staff are doing most of that). It’s about selling themselves to the public as a unit. No one intelligent is falling for it. Oh and her in-and-out fake accent has to go. She’s not Salma Hayek.
