Donald Trump: People thought my incitement of terrorism was ‘totally appropriate’

Trump Departure for Alamo, Texas

Donald Trump crawled out of his cheeseburger shame spiral, dusted off the Cheeto crumbs and put on a baggy suit yesterday. He finally made a public appearance, his first since he incited a white supremacist mob to lay siege to the Capitol on January 6th. First, Trump waddled out of the White House, boarded Marine One and then gave his first statements to the media at both Andrews and the WH. This has been a fixture of the Trump era – the man hates to give press conferences in the White House Press Room, so he’ll give “off the cuff” remarks to the media as he’s leaving the WH, or as he’s boarding Air Force One. Again, these were his first official live public comments in a week, and his first on the terrorist attack he incited:

Donald Trump slammed Congress for weighing a second impeachment of him this week, accusing Democrats of the “continuation of the greatest witch hunt in the history of politics.”

“If you read my speech — and many people have done it, and I’ve seen it both in the papers and in the media, on television — it’s been analyzed, and people thought that what I said was totally appropriate,” Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews Tuesday, on his way to Texas for a media event at the southern border. To hear Trump tell it on Tuesday, he encouraged none of the siege. Trump told reporters that his remarks were “totally appropriate.”

Then he pivoted to whataboutism. He suggested Democratic politicians who condemned police over the summer violence are more guilty of fomenting unrest.

“If you look at what other people have said — politicians at a high level — about the riots during the summer, the horrible riots in Portland and Seattle and various other places, that was a real problem, what they said,” said Trump. “But they’ve analyzed my speech and my words and my final paragraph, my final sentence, and everybody to the T thought it was totally appropriate.”

Trump’s new remarks are worrisome. According to an FBI bulletin, armed protests like the one that took place at the Capitol are “being planned at all 50 state capitols from 16 January through at least 20 January, and at the US Capitol from 17 January through 20 January.” The document also warns of an “uprising” if Trump is removed from office. Trump, however, suggested on Tuesday that if there is more violence in his name in the days to come, it’ll actually be the fault of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer.

“For Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to continue on this path, I think it’s causing tremendous danger to our country and it’s causing tremendous anger. I want no violence,” Trump told reporters outside the White House, before helicoptering to Andrews.

Note: everyone who has read or watched Trump’s entire speech at the Stop the Steal rally on January 6th agrees that he was openly inciting the crowd to storm the Capitol. NO ONE thought it was appropriate and it is one of the most damning pieces of evidence against him in the impeachment trial. And think about what he’s really saying… punishing him for inciting terrorism will “cause tremendous anger” and be dangerous for America. He’s actually threatening Democrats (and all of Congress, and all of America) with more violence if he’s punished.

Then, Trump visited the border wall in Alamo, Texas where he once again said unhinged sh-t like: “The 25th Amendment is of zero risk to me, but will come back to haunt Joe Biden and the Biden administration. As the expression goes, be careful of what you wish for.” He seems to conflate the 25th Amendment with impeachment? If Pence somehow invokes the 25th, it won’t have anything to do with Biden. My guess is that this is just some generic threat from Trump and it’s mostly just a call to arms for his supporters.

My God. I want to know who these “people” are. Who thinks what he said is totally appropriate, apart from his supporters or yes-men?

I read an article last night about the “cult” of Trump, how and why people get sucked in, and what it will take to de-program his followers. It is terrifying. Here is a link if anyone is interested:
    https://www.rawstory.com/2019/10/can-the-trump-cult-be-deprogrammed/

No rational person think that speech was appropriate, he’s lying as usual.
Whenever he opens his mouth he’s lying.

    • Gina says:

The “people” are the voices in his head.

    • Elizabeth says:

Watching his downfall begin has been the most pleasant time of a severely difficult four years for me. I think his loss actually dented his power among his cult followers, like an apocalypse he predicted failed to happen. Without power, a patriarch is not as attractive. Most of my family are deranged extreme Trumpers, but after he lost, my dad stopped wearing his damn hat, and the signs started coming down one by one (I live in a rural area). They worship power and he’s lost it.

      • Noodle says:

@elizabeth, I hope so too. I have seen a few begin to wonder where all the election fraud is, and why he hasn’t presented it yet. It feels like the cracks show to those of us with common sense, but some want to remain in the delusion because it gives them power and an enemy.

      • GuestwithCat says:

What scares me is someone less fatally dysfunctional and incompetent and more effective at being a psychopath authoritarian will replace Trump in your dad’s regard. That loyalty is there under the surface, looking for a new recipient. Trump has had an instinctive ability to tap into something that had been mostly dormant in many people. It’s the same mess of bigotry, fear and outrage Hitler tapped into.

    • StellainNH says:

Thanks for sharing the article. I think this country will be in an absolute mess if we don’t deal with cult45.

    • steph says:

Omg, that was written way back in October. Imagine today?

    • minnieder says:

      Fascinating article!!!

    You weren’t missed bitch!

  3. Esmom says:

I think his remark about the 25th Amendment and Biden is a nod to the conspiracy theorists who say Joe has dementia and Harris will invoke it so she can become POTUS, which has “been the Dems plan all along.” But who knows what his addled self really thinks.

I can’t with all this anymore. The push back by crazy Congresspeople about metal detectors. Invoking Q on the House floor. Disingenuous calls for unity. Every day that goes by where he’s still allowed to be president only emboldens the MAGA army more.

    • Darla says:

I should have read this before I posted my comment which is basically “ditto” lol

    • Seraphina says:

Esmom, yes. I was told by a coworker (republican) that the Dem’s plan is to get Biden out and have Harris as President. I was floored. Just floored.

      • Esmom says:

Their minds can never stop churning out bullsh^t. It’s truly become a new American pastime.

The Good Liars interviewed a Trumper on the street, a well dressed middle aged lady, who is completely convinced Trump is the one who will be inaugurated on January 20. She was trembling and tearing up saying she couldn’t even imagine otherwise, while her husband gently patted her hand, the poor dear. It’s just horrifying to behold how completely peoples brains have just…melted.

      • Lucy says:

Seraphina, my husband said that the other night. His co workers are all Limbaugh listening Trump lovers and they’ve said it so much he brought it up. I said wtf are you talking about.
A lot of these guys are longtime friends of his, and I know he’s pushing back on it, but he hears it so much it seeps in some. Like his co workers are sure in February we’ll have President Harris. Facts don’t slow them down, it’s infuriating.

      • Seraphina says:

Lucy, just bring up the other argument they had back in March to COVID: This COVID thing will miraculously disappear in November (meaning it has been conjured up to throw off the election). And I say to those people now, “So you still going out??? Yeah, I heard some tell me this COVID thing was supposed to end in early November and it’s still going strong.”

    • Sigmund says:

Well, Trump is all about projection. I honestly think, years from now, we will find out he’s had issues with dementia for most of not all of his term. Just listen to him talk. He rambles and honestly sounds senile.

Trump reminds me of my father, who has been an alcoholic my entire life, and whose memory some days seems entirely shot.

      • vertes says:

Trump doesn’t drink alcohol but does use various rx drugs. I think he has some form of dementia which his entitled offspring don’t recognize as illness. They’re so accustomed to their blowhard daddy’s outrageous arrogance over the years that they don’t see what a mess he is.

    • Christin says:

Distraction and projection is their MO.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

I will take President Biden with dementia any day over Mango Voldemort. Sorry not sorry.

  4. Becks1 says:

Is he talking about his Stop the Steal speech that was “totally appropriate” (I havent heard any of that speech, refuse to listen to clips of it) or his deranged “we love you” speech in the midst of the Capitol attack that was posted on twitter? I assume the former was not totally appropriate and I know for damn sure the latter was not either.

He is definitely threatening violence if he is removed from office or impeached again. But it seems the pentagon may be stepping up this time and at the individual state houses, the governors wont have to wait for approval to have the national guard ready.

    • Esmom says:

Good point about which speech he’s talking about. I still can’t get over the fact that this guy has to defend his words ALL THE TIME and never gets it right, never shows any contrition, always just doubles down. He is truly a monster and if he just walks away from all this I will be beyond livid.

    • Lightpurple says:

The “Stop the Steal” speech is the one cited in the Articles of Impeachment.

  5. Darla says:

The 25th amendment thing he said about Biden should give everyone a good idea of where they’re going. They are going to batter into us everyday that Biden is senile and Kamala is cutthroat and she is plotting behind the scenes to 25 him.

So don’t fall for any of that isht. It will be everywhere through the vast right wing propaganda machine.

    • Rapunzel says:

It’s projection, as always. My guess is there’s been plenty of 25th amendment talk about Trump on the quiet, throughout his term, but he blackmails or fires the folks trying to make it happen.

The whole “Kamala is a trojan horse” is absurd af. The rwnjs are just shook a biracial woman is VP.

  6. B n A fn says:

The man is very sick and evil. He should be on a 5150 hold until January 21. God help us until then. Anyone remember Jim Jones. This is Jim Jones 2.0. Those people who thought his speech was appropriate are very sick 😷.

  7. Wiglet Watcher says:

He doesn’t “want” violence. There’s always a “want” and a “need.” Desires and realities sort of stuff. He never condemned what his supporters did.
The police and other agencies need to do their job of cleaning house of loyalists and taking down these domestic terrorists.

  8. Esmeralda says:

It’s very scary… hopefully the national guard will be ready to prevent and stop violence, and the fact people (and self proclaimed shamans) were arrested for the Capitol attack will deter a few Trump supporters from engaging in violence.
But it’s important to remember that Trump was soundly and legally defeated at the polls and his violent supporters will also be stopped and detained legally, and their violence will not win.

  9. Adream says:

That first picture scares the bejeezuz out of me. In fact all those photos are ominous..

  10. Soupie says:

Just heard on Morning Joe that Trump isn’t even able to send emails. Didn’t know that. I just thought he was kicked off all social media. Being unable to communicate is huge. Not only that, NYC Mayor DiBlasio just terminated all contracts with the Trump organization. I love all this!! it’s gettin’ real DJ, it’s gettin” real!!

    • Diana says:

Wooooo-hoooooooo!!!!!!!! This is encouraging news! 🙏

    • Lightpurple says:

He has a government email account. If he can’t send emails, it’s because he doesn’t know how. He has said many times before that he hates to use email.

      • Esmom says:

Exactly. No one has cut off emails or the many, many other ways he can communicate. Twitter is not an unalienable right and I can’t believe I actually typed that. This faux outrage about big tech is designed to deflect from the deadly insurrection on the Capitol.

      • lobstah says:

His campaign’s email provider cut him off. He can send an email to a friend, but he can’t send out those mass fundraising emails anymore.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

When Deutsche Bank (a corrupt mega bank that launders money for the mob, despots, drug cartels, his master) closes your accounts you know the sh!t just hit the fan.

I also read they are cutting ties with him as he has fallen very behind on interest payments to his $300mill PERSONAL loan. They are cutting their losses – am sure he has millions squirrelled away with other very dodgy banks that we don’t know of yet and I think thats why Jared is in Israel, they are hiding Trump money there.

  11. Seraphina says:

He continues to use threatening tones and shows no remorse for anything that happened. While her daughter is concerned all about her political ambitions – just like Cruz and Hawley. Our legislators will show themselves in the coming days. I hope they place country before party, actually it’s more like country before Trump-licans.

  12. Willow says:

Apparently, he keeps saying ‘no violence’ because his lawyers advised him to, so they can argue he didn’t intend to cause violence. His speech is literally blaming everyone else, making threats, and oh yeah, no violence, wink, wink. Like everything else he’s done, he’ll get away with it.

  13. Rapunzel says:

Trump is a moron, per usual.
He will go down for inciting this because THE CULPRITS SAY HE DID! They are literally going to use “Trump invited us” as a defense. And it’s going to be hilarious when he turns on them and gives them the “I don’t know them” treatment. Prepare to get coffee boy’d, Trumpsters.

  14. Lizzie says:

Will state charges be dropped on him on the 21st?

    • Sigmund says:

I hope so. I’ve got a bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge for just such an occasion. 🥂

  15. Christin says:

A reporter just tweeted photos of national guardsmen sleeping on the hard floors of the Capitol this morning. These men and women left their jobs and families to protect DC, because of the senseless lying of Orange and his minions.

    • AnnaKist says:

We saw that here in Australia, too. I don’t think there’s a bill word left to describe this filthy piece of garbage. All this to give his ego some salve. I really hope he is held accountable, not just to make sure he can never rise again, but to also send a clear message to anyone else who gets an idea of carrying on where he left off.

      • Christin says:

I hope the same. This is an opportunity to send a message to the world about democracy and laws. No one should be above the law.

    • windyriver says:

Thousands of NG were already expected in DC for the Inauguration prior to last Wednesday’s events as part of the typical, usual security preparations. It’s part of the National Special Security Event designation for DC that was scheduled to take effect January 19, but is now effective as of today.

And, AirBnB is cancelling all reservations for next week in the DC area and will block attempts to make new ones. Reportedly will refund people for their reservations and reimburse hosts at its own expense.

The mayor of DC, and governors of VA and MD, on Monday told potential visitors in general not to travel to the area, both because of the riot, and the pandemic.

My GOD the pathology on display here! He is mentally and physically capable of facing reality. The only thing that’s gonna end up being named after him is a new mental illness like Malignant Narcissistic Sociopathic/Psychopathic Frontotemporal Dementia Crazypants Morbid Delusional Pathological Deception Syndrome.

Stay safe, Joy, and let us know how you get on.

    • ATLMathMom says:

Please stay safe! My husband used to work in one of those big governmental buildings right on the Mall, and I am very thankful right now that he no longer does.

  18. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Definitely a message for his supporters. He’s nothing without Billy Bob and his AK. It’s time for the FBI and national security to “blow up” domestic terrorism and threats against America. These shitholes need consequences like… YESTERDAY. Enough already. If we allow it to continue, it grows and becomes more dangerous and more prolific. I can’t bust down doors, confiscate weapons and throw em in jail. So get busy American security peoples.

  19. AnnaKist says:

Oh, god. I guffawed on the first sentence… 😂😂😂 Now I’ll go back and read the article in full.

  20. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

I’m listening to CNN live and hearing Republican after Republican beg for ‘healing’ and ‘mending divisions across the aisle’. Where were they for the past four years? Where were they then? Where? Where?!

    • Christin says:

Funny how reaching across the aisle suddenly becomes the talking point of those who do not have a majority anymore.

  21. Lal says:

Man alive, Trumpy must gag down large doses of statins with his gallons of diet coke. He remains fairly upright despite being a total knuckledragger.

  23. olliesmom says:

Who are all these “people” all the time? Are they in his head? He really shouldn’t listen to any of them because they are morons and they are always wrong.

Not going to miss him at all.

  24. Valerie says:

I am so sick of him.
