It looks like the Daily Mail and Page Six have somehow discovered Armie Hammer’s “private” Instagram, and the images are reportedly full of raw meat, knives and scantily-clad women. While this seems entirely “on brand” for what we now know of Armie Hammer, I do find it suspicious that the Mail and other media outlets have access to it? Perhaps they do, and if so, those Instagrams seem to reveal a man who is on a downward spiral, someone who is likely hurting a lot of people on his way down. Some highlights from this Page Six story:
How Elizabeth Chambers is doing: This [scandal] has come as a shock not just to his friends, but his ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers, with whom he is in the midst of an already difficult divorce. They are both currently on the Cayman Islands, where Chambers has been living with their two young children since they split over the summer. A family friend told The Post that Chambers, who filed for divorce in July, is “really in shock” and has “not processed any of this yet,” adding: “They went out to the Cayman Islands at the beginning of the pandemic in March as a family and Armie left in late June to go back to California. She’s basically been a single mom since then, Armie didn’t see the kids for five months. The kids are her number one priority, so on top of all the emotional stuff she has two kids to take to school and make sure they’re not affected.”
She knew about some of the cheating, but not all this: The friend added: “Elizabeth was aware of some infidelity, but she wanted to make the marriage work and thought that he did too.” Several sources said that Hammer had been madly in love with Chambers. But a major Hollywood publicist told The Post how, once “Call Me By Your Name” boosted his fame, “women were texting him, chasing him — and when he would drink, that’s when he’d run around. Everyone thought he and Elizabeth decided to have an open marriage.”
He didn’t do that stuff with her: “[These messages] are very shocking for her,” Chambers’ friend added. “He never did any of the weird s- -t with her.”
Does Hammer need help? Another source who knows both Hammer and Chambers said: “My mind is blown. He always appeared so totally normal, he loves grilling, I mean — he was so excited about buying a new smoker and he would have friends over for barbecues and cocktails. None of this seems like the Armie that I know. He needs help. Something is terribly wrong, and I just wonder if it’s drugs.”
So, about the drugs: This week, the Daily Mail published video clips of Hammer declaring “s–t’s getting weird” after sniffing a white substance from someone’s hand and swigging from his beer can while behind the wheel of a car. On Friday, the Daily Mail posted a video from what is alleged to be Hammer’s secret Instagram account. The post said that he had “THC and benzos” in his system but that the hallucinogenic drug DMT had not showed up in a drug test; he also showed what appeared to be a court mandate ordering him to undergo drug testing as a condition of seeing his children. In the background, a woman wearing lingerie while on her hands and knees in a bed was visible. “Divorce is so fun. Not as fun as drugs. But what is,” the post read.
Heavy drinker to drug user? A movie insider who worked with Hammer on the set of the 2018 film “On the Basis of Sex,” told The Post that “He would have a water bottle of vodka in the green room before going on TV [interviews] but other than that he was a gentleman.” A source who has worked with Hammer told The Post that Hammer does “not have a drug habit” but that he will drink heavily for weeks at a time. Asked about the messages, the source said: “Of course Armie is not a cannibal … although BDSM might be weird, it’s not illegal.”
A God complex? A casting director told The Post that Hammer is a cautionary tale for young Hollywood. “Up till ‘Call Me By Your Name,’ nobody took him that seriously other than as a rich kid who wanted to get famous. He was in a lot of loser films before that,” the casting director said. “But after ‘Call Me,’ he started getting much better offers and much more attention. He seemed to be getting a bit of a God complex — like he’s so famous and rich, he’s above reproach. That can lead to some actors having very bad behavior.”
Part of me doesn’t believe some of the denials from Elizabeth Chambers’ friends/publicist. Even in this piece, her “friend” says that she did know about some of the affairs, and that’s been consistent with the reporting of what Elizabeth knew and when, with one of her friends even telling the Daily Mail last week that some of Armie’s mistresses/victims even came to her. My take is that I do think Armie was into some weird sh-t and Elizabeth knew some of it, and Elizabeth wasn’t into it and she just thought it would go away or that he would get it out of his system discreetly. And then the indiscretions, affairs and BDSM stuff just kept piling up and that was a big reason why she filed for divorce last year. And since then, Armie just keeps going deeper into this. Like, escalating his behavior, perhaps abusing drugs as a way to self-medicate for deeper issues, and on and on. Yeeesh.

I think the narrative that friends and publicists will push is to blame everything on drugs
Right. Like, maybe they ARE concerned he has a drug problem, but crisis comms experts always go to this well when their celebrity clients have gotten caught doing something terrible. Lots of people are into BDSM and that’s totally cool if it’s consensual adults. Lots of people have drug problems. Neither of these these things explain abuse or cannibalism, which he should be getting help for regardless of whether it’s just a fantasy or something he’s actually acted upon.
The fact that I’ve just read, “Neither of these these things explain abuse or cannibalism,” is mind-blowing.
It’s true, they are trying to excuse cannibalism.
Many have missed his statement (yesterday or two days ago) apologising for using the ‘Miss Cayman’ label in his video, only because the committee at the Caymans contest were offended to the hilt and basically went to the police with that.
So he is quite aware of repercussions that some of the crap he spreads on social media can come to bite in the ass.
Until those allegations are not substantiated, he’ll make it out of it with the ‘drugs -rehab’ excuse.

Abusing drugs does not exempt someone from being accountable to the depraved violence they enact against women.
Obviously the PR agenda will disagree with this but it doesn’t detract from the fact he is rotten from the inside out.
He’s rich and well-connected and they’ll use whatever excuses they can. Jeffrey Dahmer was an alcoholic, but no-one would blame his murders or cannibalism on booze. Then again, Dahmer was a poor gay man from a broken home.

ITA- they are pushing the drugs and alcohol stories and the impact on his marriage so he can be redeemed at a later date. If the allegations of abuse women have been posting are true, he should be in jail. (I am only adding the “if they are true” caveat because some of the accounts the allegations have been posted under are anonymous).

I feel bad for the children.
My guess is that he has deeper issues, and he’s reached a point in life where it can’t be hidden or ignored any longer. The drugs are probably, mostly, self medication that’s gotten out of control, because he needs real help and drugs, despite mellowing the pain, can’t actually solve those issues.

Yes – the whole “the fame went to his head and he decided to become an abuser and a rapist” angle isn’t quite cutting it.
As a person who is waaay too invested in this story, my take on Elizabeth’s denials of knowing this side to her ex husband don’t ring true and could backfire on her. She’s obviously speaking directly to the Daily Mail – or is authorising a very close friend to do so and has been for a long time, about this and many other stories. And the DM shares stories with other outlets so she’s getting her narrative out there in a big way and the party line is that she’s totally blindsided. But here’s the thing. It took, like two minutes for the world to see that Armie was hiding this side to him in plain sight. His social media practically brags about it. There was even someone who matched up photos a couple of years ago where his DM’s were leaked to a girl he sent a photo to with a mannequin trussed up in shibori ropes.. the mannequin was in front of a pool and the reasons why it was proved that it did come from Armie was that Elizabeth had apparently posted a picture of her children dancing in front of the pool. So, he’s got a doll, AND ropes in the family household and she knew nothing about it? ‘Hey babe, whats with the ropes and the doll in the secret room that you always keep locked?’ ”Just good clean non BDSM fun, sweetheart!’
I mean, I get that she doesn’t want the narrative to be ‘hey, I like BDSM too!’, or even to acknowledge that she had a *little* bit more awareness of what was going on, but taking the high road with these tabloids is always a risky strategy because they’ll turn on the source if the other side provide an even juicier take. I agree this will backfire on her as I’ve seen the photos from their home of the mannequins and all the bondage he was into. Elizabeth probably feels cornered and needs to tell her side of the story somehow without implicating herself that she was complicit with “certain kinks”. I sincerely hope that the headlines don’t turn on her and start focusing on her role in all this when we need to keep talking about Armie and how he needs to be in jail.
My take on Elizabeth as someone who has followed her throughout the years: I think she’s a raging narcissist, very savvy, and a victim of Armie at the same time. There’s no doubt she was abused and gaslit by him ALL the time.
Her stance may have to do with the divorce and having leverage to gain custody of the children.

i think it’s weird that ppl who have been married for 10 years and presumably together for longer wouldn’t at least have *some* idea that one of them is into BDSM, even if not to the extent that has been subsequently revealed.

So she probably didn’t know how bad (veering into rape and violence) it was, though likely she knew he was into bondage. As someone who used to follow AH on Instagram several years ago, I remember him posting videos of smoking and grilling meats ion his backyard like a normal dude. I remember them vividly because I had the same smoker at the time and would do the same ( no worries, not into BDSM or cannibalism, I swear). I also remember him saying his wife and kids would always be in Dallas, where they have some kind of bakery business, so it’s entirely possible that he would bust out the freaky when she was away on business with the kids and kept it away from her. As far as the rest of his behavior goes, I hope any other victims speak up and out this abuser more. He deserves every bit of the backlash he’s getting.

I don’t think there’s any way to come back from a scandal like this…rape, cannibalism. It’s expected that women who accuse someone of sexual assault will be believed: but women who say they didn’t know their husband was doing stuff are often dragged on the grounds that of course they must have known. The vitriol towards Harvey Weinstein’s wife is a prime example. I am no fan of Elizabeth Chambers, who seemed thirsty for fame and without any particular talent apart from being Mrs Hammer. But many men who don’t have the money and freedom that Armie does are able to pull the wool over their wife’s eyes for years. Occasionally to the extent of being bigamists with separate families unaware of each other’s existence. At the moment I see no reason to disbelieve her.
Mhm, I take her at her word that a lot of this is news to her. It’s amazing what people are capable of overlooking when they love someone. Denial is incredibly powerful; it’s like the brain blocks out the entire pattern of evidence because it can’t process reality.
This is such a weird story. A lot of people, even nice people, do drugs. Not sure he is nice but it is what it is. If he’s driving under the influence, that should be dealt with legally. A lot of people are into kink and bondage, and as pointed out, it’s a little out there but not illegal. It seems there are several issues at once. He’s a cheating husband who may have substance abuse issues. He needs to get the drugs and drinking under control. He’s messy and indiscreet with his private life and putting his private business all out there for everyone to gawk at, which could affect his custody of his children and his career. Maybe he’s an attention whore but this is not good if it means dropping out of movies because of this attention. He seems to have issues with consent and parameters with some of his extramarital partners, and seems abusive and exploitative, which is really problematic and crosses a lot of lines. He needs serious therapy and to pull himself together. He’s from a very wealthy, prominent family so maybe never has to face repercussion or accountability before. Who knows? Seems like a lot of peoples messes are being revealed the further into this pandemic and lockdown we get.
