Imagine if you’re a loyal employee of an unhinged madman, and you make one decision to stand against that madman. In retaliation, the madman sends an armed terrorist mob to murder you, your wife and your daughters. People begin to tell you that you should do something to take away the madman’s power but you choose some kind of form of twisted loyalty and refuse. The madman continues to threaten and harass everyone with his death cult followers, to the point where you have to take over the madman’s job duties anyway. Now the madman is sitting in his sad golf club in Florida and you have to spend the rest of your life broke and looking over your shoulder, worried that the madman’s death cult will come for you one of these days. This is Mike Pence’s life.
On Tuesday, Business Insider reported that former Vice President Mike Pence and his wife Karen do not have a permanent residence since leaving the vice president’s mansion — and though Republicans close to the couple aren’t exactly sure of their current living arrangements, they believe the former second couple is “couch-surfing” at the residences of various Indiana officials.
“According to one source, the Pences are staying at the dolled-up cabin nearby that the Indiana governor uses as a retreat. If so, they’d need permission to spend the night from Pence’s former lieutenant governor, who now serves as governor, Eric Holcomb,” reported Tom LoBianco. “Two Republicans close to the Pences said they heard that the former second couple was staying at Pence’s brother’s place in Columbus. The one thing everyone is certain of is that when the Pences moved out of the vice president’s residence at the US Naval Observatory in Washington, they had nowhere to go. The former second couple doesn’t actually own a house.”
Per the report, the Pences are in a precarious position since leaving office.
“Republicans who spoke with Insider also said they wondered whether Pence and his team are closely guarding their new domicile because of the wave of death threats he faced just three weeks ago,” said the report. “The Trump-incited mob that stormed the Capitol earlier this month shouted that they wanted to hang Pence, and some of the people came within about 100 feet of confronting him and his family as they were hurried to a secure location in the Capitol.”
Furthermore, the report noted, Pence has essentially been cut off from all contact with former President Donald Trump, who was enraged by his refusal to try to overturn the election results during congressional certification. Pence, for his part, is reportedly resentful that Trump put his life in danger.
At first I thought “well, Pence will find some way to land on his feet, he’s a well-connected Republican, he’ll get a lobbying job or something.” But now I’m not so sure? Pence pissed off the Trump people and it’s looking like he pissed off most of the Republican Party too, because despite what they say, the GOP was largely in lockstep with Trump’s attempted overthrow of the republic, just as they were in lockstep with Trump’s general fascism, nativism, misogyny and racism. It’s truly a crazy f–king time when the most recent former vice president has to hide out in case the former president’s cultists come to murder him. As for the Pence finances… he was a public servant for years, but I doubt he’s broke or anything. He and Mother are probably looking at real estate in Indiana, they’re just doing it very quietly.

he doesn’t deserve to die at the hands of an angry mob, but I’m not crying any tears for him over this. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Yep
Yup. My sister-in-law and her wife live in Indiana and loathe Pence. None of us wish him harm, but he gets no sympathy from me on this one. He’s had a good, steady income for years. He could have bought himself a place anywhere in Indiana long ago.
May he have to look over his shoulder for the rest of his days.
He’s probably looking for a corporate gig so he might wait to buy/rent something until he knows where he is going. Am guessing a lot of places are passing on him and most of his colleagues in the administration, they weren’t skilled or connected to begin with and there aren’t that many companies that can afford to be that partisan. I would guess they will do better at private companies than at public ones.
This makes the most sense. I’d heard that the Pences bought a place in DC but apparently not.
As for job offers not pouring in, thoughts and prayers, Mike.
i was going to be snarky – it makes sense that he hadn’t planned ahead with how poorly he managed the planning around vaccine distribution. Bu you are probably right.
He helped empower the man who caused (and continues to cause) incalculable damage to this country and he sold his soul to do it. I have absolutely no sympathy for him.
I’m not sure I believe this story. I have a feeling the Pences just don’t want the world to know where they are out of fear for their safety. I bet Mike is getting a lot of grief from Mother, though. Hehe
It’s true. My in-laws live in Columbus and have seen him and Mother around town.
It’s true. They didn’t actually own a home when he was governor of Indiana, either. They used the governor’s mansion as their legal address.
I’m sure he grifted enough over the last four years to secure their financial future.
Pence has a pension from Congress, the White House, and the state of Indiana. He will be fine.
Came here to say this. He’s collecting from multiple public pension plans, and will for life. He won’t be in the top tier of money in the USA, but he and Mother will hardly starve.
Naw, I totally believe they are broke or don’t have a nest egg because they were in debt to begin with. His finances were the main reason Manafort was able to recruit him. He went on the ticket with most of his debt cleared. This is the same man who was a spokesperson for tobacco because he was so toxic after the pandemic he created in IN while he was Governor. If he had as many friends or close associates as they say, he would be somewhere and this story never would have come out. So, whatever he did not spend as VP and saves might not even be enough for a down payment, let alone buying property outright.
Oh and the bee hive they left at the Naval Observatory was also another give away.
Oh well.
This. Public servants can end up very easily without a tidy pile. I think the Regans got their friends to a buy a house for them after the WH.
Mike should have stood up and gone hard against Trump–it would have made him viable for 2024. I think he’s pretty much finished in terms of elected office.
If you’re creepy and insane yourself the Pences might make agreeable house guests.
I’ve heard all who leave this echelon of public service go through shock as within 1 day their lives cease not to be jointly managed by staff and your wishes and plans are carried out by teams. No invitations to send, none received, no meetings about flowers, no menus to approve with your team. You make your own toast now.
@Tiffany it all goes back to PMannafort-don’t know how any one can write a story about Pence w/o observing that: the same person that inserted PM to work “for free” with the campaign also chose Pence for running mate and that DT only “trusts” men as compromised as he is (Sessions, Graham).
Pence did not follow DT’s orders on the 6th b/c the order did not come from the person that Pence (and DT) actually have to report to. DT went off script with that whole insurrection thing and that’s why he didn’t get the support he needed, and that had been used to getting , from whoever it is that’s really controlling these men.
Also, Pence’s Trajectory is so similar to that of some of the new Q anon members of Congress and BKavanaugh, with their debts being cleared right before they take some sort of national stage is …just I don’t even know what to say about that, but I hope someone’s looking into this other than we celeb*tches.
Fascinating. So Trump is now on the blacklist of the powers behind the throne? Who are those powers? Probably more than 1 entity/nation.
Bee hive?
Insert “itswhatshedeserves” gif.
But seriously, he’s a white conservative male – he’ll be just fine.
I wouldn’t wish the death cult’s wrath on anyone. But I also think it’s important to remember that the guy is kind of a monster in his own right.
Yeah I doubt he’s broke. If he is he’s probably “rich people broke”. He’s probably hiding from the MAGAts who want him dead. The secret service protection expires in 6 months unless the Biden Administration grants him an extension.
He got over $200k/year as VP and has known since November that they would be moving.
This story is odd. Did they sell their previous home in 2016? Did he think he’d be in DC for 8 years plus?
He hasn’t had a home of his own since he become the Governor of Indiana. Once he become governor, he lived in the Governor’s mansion. Then he became VP so he lived in the VP’s place.
But he’s known since November he would need to find a place – unless he too believed the election results would be overturned. But he definitely knew on Jan 6th it wouldn’t so idk why him and Mother didn’t make some arrangements.
I’m sure 2 weeks is enough time to book a hotel in DC/Indiana/Maryland/Virgina so you can at least find a rental place.
Oh right, forgot he was governor right before that too.
Must be nice to have all your housing covered by the taxpayers for years and years!
My guess is he will probably go work for the NRA or some super right-wing organization. He won’t be broke and “couch surfing” for long. But what does Mother do? She bugs me to no end.
Well, she used to make towel charms, but I think that business has ended.
Towel charms remain my favorite. Indiana monogramming!
Doesn’t she teach at some Christian school?
She taught art at some private Christian school while Mother’s Husband was in Congress and went back part-time in 2019. The school is not without it’s bad reputation as it won’t admit LGBTQ students and posted a policy stating “it is permitted to turn away students who engage in, uphold, or accept sexual immorality, homosexual activity, or bisexual activity, (with the policy also applying to parents and employees).”
He has strong ties to the Heartland Institute and I’m guessing he will land there. In terms of right wing groups, Heartland really takes the cake. They think the dangers of second hand cigarette smoke are based on junk science.
We are birthing a permanent right-wing Taliban in this country and Pence is just as guilty as Trump for giving it life. He will likely be a target for life. Secret Service is really good however so he will probably be safe if not secure
“We are birthing a permanent right-wing Taliban in this country”
Your sentence gave me chills. This is what has happened, yes. Very succinctly put.
Trump is a grifter and a clown but Pence is an ideologue, which ultimately makes him much more dangerous. He genuinely believes the US should be a theocracy.
It’s really revving up in my state (Pennsylvania). The GOP here is attempting power grabs left and right, trying to strip power from the governor, and leaning hard into the fascist right wing element. A lot of us in the cities are nervous what’s going to happen going forward.
“Indiana wants me, Lord, I can’t go back there ” comes to mind.
Love it!
My guess is that Trumpy Mc Trump was the rainmaker for Mother’s Husband, but following his disloyalty that line of credit has been cut and debts have been called due.
That effectively puts the Pence’s in a horrible position, not just debt wise but safety wise. It also explains Pence’s to go after Trump whilst in office.
I think quite a few of the senior Rep’s are in a similar position.
I for one do not feel sorry for any of them. Sup with the Devil, then make sure you bring a long spoon.
Trump isn’t a rainmaker. My guess is the Mercers are Pence’s sugar daddy.
Here is the tiniest violin playing.
But hey, maybe one of his evil racist warehouses cruelly incarcerating children taken from their parents can spare a space on the cement floor.
If I were Mike Pence, well, I’d probably just jump into an active volcano and the whole thing would be moot. But if not that, I’d write a tell-all, go on the talk show circuit, and milk the hell out of this. The death cult already wants him dead anyway, so might as well make their anger worthwhile and earn a few bucks from the mainstream media that continues to insist upon being “fair” to the poor, frightened, ignorant, racist white people who voted for Trump/Pence in the first place. Lord knows people like Pence love to play the martyr, anyway.
If he’s homeless then good. That’s your own fault for not saving up your salary, accepting defeat, and figuring out a plan to live after you rightly lost an election then lied about it for months. All if his problems are his own doing. He was upstaged by a fly. Crawl back into the hole you orc birthed out of and never been seen or heard from again.
Pence might have lost Indiana in 2016 if he’d not jumped on the National ticket. It’ll be interesting to see what he does. Both of his brothers are well off but I’m pretty sure he’s only tight with one of them (the one who is in Congress and is like him). The other one is basically the opposite of Pence.
He’ll write some book called “Leading with Jesus” or some nonsense and make a ton of money. I give up. I feel like none of these awful people will ever face any consequences for the damage (and actual deaths) they’ve caused. They’ll just keep counting money with blood on their hands. Sigh.
Maybe not in this lifetime, but I firmly believe that people get what’s coming to them one way or another. Unfortunately maybe relatives/friends…
I find it weird that even before the insurrection they hadn’t found a place to live. I mean, Pence knew they’d lost. It’s why he was okay with doing his job and certifying the results. So why in all the weeks from the election to the inauguration hadn’t they figured out where to go?? They could have done so quietly.
He went to the inauguration and stood there on the steps with Kamala and Doug afterward. That sealed his fate with 1/2 the base.
I really don’t care that much about him. He can go do whatever Dan Quayle did. But I am hoping that Vanity Fair or someone will give us the scoop about Mother’s glow up.
A small touch of reality for the Pences! I have a hunch they will be ok.
As someone from Indiana they are get everything they deserve, I hope he is never able to find a high paying job, I absolutely don’t feel sorry him at all, he had no problem trying to take away LGBT and women’s rights from Hoosiers, hopefully his current situation is Karma at it’s best.
I think Pence just doesn’t want to disclose his location because of the MAGA nut jobs out there who want to come after him. How expensive are houses in Indiana, especially compared to priced in the DC metro area? Apparently, news outlets are reporting there was a big meeting at Trumps hotel the night before the Capitol riots with a lot of Trumps people, some elected and cabinet officials that reeks of some kind of planning meeting. Also reports that the leader of the Proud Boys, who was conveniently arrested 2 days before the riots used to be a government informant. Pences hand are not clean either, but Trump was prepared for him to go. The GOP is circling the wagons because so many are all complicit, or even active, in what happened. Some of them should also be on trial and more stuff is coming out. It stinks to high heaven.
As a resident of the state of Indiana it gives me great pleasure that Pence is exiled and hopefully depressed as hell that he has imploded any chance at the Presidency in the future. His hypocrisy (as well as Mother’s) and enabling of DT the past 4 years should never be forgotten. And let’s just say the the entire Pence family including his brother Greg, are not the squeaky clean conservative family they claim. Hell even his niece was fired from the Indianapolis NBC station for ethics violations while working on a story.
Hah! Don’t forget the nephew who was on the board of Jared Kushner’s shell corporation!
As for Mike Pence, well, Hoosier Hospitality apparently has a limit.
Every eff I used to have already flew out the window in 2016.
I doubt he’s just crashing on a couch like a 20 year old college student, he’s too much of a robot for anything so laid back.
He and the Mrs. can come stay at my house. My spare room has a lot of litter boxes in it. He’s feel right at home, considering all the crap the Republicans have been spewing around him. But I run a clean home, so he’d better leave his flies outside.
So I have zero respect for Pence and “Mother”. They put themselves where they are right now because they did NOTHING top stop the momentum of that insane orange malignance and his violent cult. No one should have to live in fear of their lives, or be threatened obviously, but you know what … fuck them both. They signed up for Donald Trump, and they got what comes with signing up for that. Violence, bigotry and total insanity. Pence did absolutely nothing to stop the insanity, and I am fine with him paying for it the rest of his life. We will, why shouldn’t he?
Pence was apart of the Newt Gingrich cult & he is apart of the foundation of what eventually created the tea party & now the maga terriorists.
Am I supposed to feel sorry for this pathetic excuse for a spineless sycophant? Because I don’t…
1) Guess Pence didn’t prep for Trump losing. More fool he—and the ineffable Mother. 🤣🤣
2) Pence is one sinister dude underneath, and the courtly born-againner surface does not hide it. He’s given me the rolling creeps ever since his VP debate, and I’m convinced he would have Gilieaded us in a minute had Trump died. He’s as spineless as a pit viper. 🤮🤮🤮🤮
If I was guessing I would say that he planned on staying in Washington but doesn’t feel safe or welcome there since he almost got murdered at the hands of raging Trump lunatics.
