This week, Donald Trump’s impeachment trial will begin and there’s a lot of news about that, especially because over the weekend, we had the one-month anniversary of the Capitol siege, which was provoked and incited by Trump. In the lead-up to his Senate trial, Trump is more concerned about other things though. For example, SAG-AFTRA is being mean to him! SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union, planned to hold a hearing to remove Trump from the union following the Capitol siege. Last week, Trump wrote a sniveling letter to the union, removing himself. SAG-AFTRA’s board still made a move to ban Trump from the union for life though.
The SAG-AFTRA National Board has voted to ban former President Donald Trump from future re-admission into the union. The resolution was passed via Zoom videoconference on Saturday, citing concerns over the deadly riot in Washington, D.C. that Trump incited on Jan. 6.
“Preventing Donald Trump from ever rejoining SAG-AFTRA is more than a symbolic step,” SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris said in a statement. “It is a resounding statement that threatening or inciting harm against fellow members will not be tolerated. An attack against one is an attack against all.”
The official press release stated: “The National Board hereby finds that the well-documented actions by Donald J. Trump to undermine the peaceful transition of power in the United States, and to undermine the delivery of truthful information to the public by attacking journalists is anathema to the values embodied by SAG-AFTRA and to the members of SAG-AFTRA; The National Board hereby finds that any future re-admission to membership of Donald J. Trump would not be in the best interests of the union; The National Board hereby directs that any future application for admission to membership in SAG-AFTRA by Donald J. Trump shall be denied.”
News of the resolution comes just days after Trump resigned from SAG-AFTRA amid the union’s move to expel him.
In a January national board meeting, SAG-AFTRA found “probable cause” that Trump had violated the organization’s constitution when he incited the deadly riot earlier in the month. According to a previous release, SAG-AFTRA ordered a disciplinary hearing be held and requested that Trump, 74, be removed from the union.
SAG-AFTRA’s board is more functional than the US Senate, that’s what I’m getting from this. I think it’s good that the union did this, even if it was merely symbolic. I’m very worried and concerned that the further we get away from the horrors of January 6th, the more Republicans will minimize what happened or just outright lie about it. It’s good to still feel f–king outraged. Donald Trump literally incited his batsh-t crazy cult members to violently lay siege to the Capitol. More than a hundred police officers were injured. One cop was beaten to death by white terrorists. They smeared feces on the walls. Remember how unsettling it was.

This is incredibly smart because it will prevent him from ever having a TV show again.
That’s what I wondered – in addition to being a symbolic move, what are the real life ramifications of being rightly banned from this union? How far does it reach?
Not sure about that.
do anchors of op/ed & news shows on “news” networks have to belong to SAG?
No it doesn’t. It just means he cannot ever be a SAG member again. This feeds into the “need” for an alternative network like Trump TV.
There seems to be no consensus on EXACTLY what his expulsion means, even the industry dailies I read have conflicting information. Theoretically it means that he cannot appear in ANY SAG-AFTRA productions and that means no plays, tv shows, commercials, movies, except non-union ones and those don’t get seen as much or get the publicity or distribution to be seen widely. So it WHOLLY eliminates him getting through to people on a mass scale with those forms of media. I am not sure whether that covers talk shows or news, but I would think most network shows are all under SAG AFTRA except the very right wing ones, (OAN News, etc) so no, you probably won’t see him being interviewed on CNN, lol, not that he would have gone on there willingly, But it MAY cover fox news. (YAY!). So he could be stuck just going to fringe channels (THE DONALD TRUMP SHOW ON BLAZE TV!) which is just great.
And you KNOW this is bothering him way more then getting impeached again. All he cares about are TV ratings and now he can’t be on tv so can’t GET the ratings, lol. It’s the best way to get back at him-SIDELINE HIM!
It means that he can’t work on union movies and Tv shows. Most reality TV is non-union.
This news made me laugh so hard and so long, I don’t even need to do any cardio exercise for the rest of the day.
Question, does this ban prevent him from ever being on TV and film again, e.g. Celebrity Apprentice? What about streaming media? Is that covered under union rules? Does this prevent SAG-AFTRA members from working with him? Just curious, what the effects of this ban will do to him.
It means he can’t work on any union projects again. Non-union people can be hired onto union projects, but they must then get the person their union card. He could still work on non-union projects which are typically low-paying and low-status. (You do non-union work to build up your credits so you can get your union card and get hired on bigger more prestigious projects.) Don’t expect to see him on a show on a major network, but he could do some kind of public access thing or YouTube.
Thank you!
Well, he said that SAG-AfTRA had done nothing for him… guess they decided to rectify that. They sure did something for him now.
That’s his kryptonite, man. He wants to be a Hollywood star and be loved and admired by Hollywood stars so badly. In the past four years whenever popular actors have spoken out against him, he immediately has to get onto Twitter and say in effect: No, you’re a stupid head. And you have cooties! And I’m way too cool to even notice you, loser! Before storming off on his tricycle. Arrested development.
Good move – means even is he does end up having his own TV network he is unable to appear on TV again. Thou how does that affect being a guest on a news show?
That photo of him holding the bible gets me ever time – he’s clearly wondering what it is like he’s never seen a book before. Or ever seen a copy of the bible before.
Yes, it’s like he just notices the bible in his hand for the first time, isn’t it? Like, huh, I’m told waving this thing around will appease you guys, but I don’t actually understand why, and gee it’s heavy. He can just barely understand it as a symbol, but nothing else.
I would assume the Bible is burning his fingers and it’s distracting him.
Spat out my coffee at that, Tim! Perfect.
Comment of the week, Tim.
Completely irrelevant, but his signature is literally a line of zigzags. I wonder what a writing analyst would glean from his signature.
I’ve always said it looks like V-Fib (ventricular fibrillation).
The multiple zigzagging triangles are indicative of aggression. An analysis was done way back, I think in the 1980s, and the expert said it was the scariest handwriting he had seen since Charles Manson. The article is on the internet somewhere.
He’s a malignant psychopath capable of great harm!

Thanks for the link.
Holy crap —that was a chilling read. Holy. Crap.
It looks like a Klan rally.
Ha!
Golly Gee: there’s lot of analysis out there but the piece that I came across recently was an analysis of Trump’s handwriting from 1988 by a person very experienced in the field. the Daily Kos had a write up in October 2020 (had to google it). Can’t link but take a look — it’s scary.
Thanks Tilewa. Sean provided the link upthread.
