Obviously, we quote The View from time to time but for the most part, the fighting of the panel has outweighed most of the content. The biggest story from the show currently is Meghan McCain’s hair.At some point, Meghan decided that her hair needed to be as outrageous as the BS she spouts from her Sit and Speak chair. Many on Twitter wondered whether Meghan’s hair stylist hated her. We might ask that of any of Meghan’s team and it wouldn’t have anything to do with her grooming choices. But this seemed to be a well-executed revenge plot being played out on live television. Carmen Currie, Meghan’s hair wrangler for the show, is finally speaking out. Carmen says she’s not working out any pent-up anger on John McCain’s daughter (not sure if you knew who Meghan’s father was. She hardly brings it up). Carmen said she makes sure Meghan is comfortable with every style before it’s set.
Meghan McCain’s hairstylist is speaking out about The View co-host’s recent string of unconventional looks that have been making waves online.
However, according to makeup artist and hairstylist Carmen Currie, that isn’t the case.
“I’m not slapping something on her and being like, ‘Take THAT!” Currie, who styles McCain’s hair for The View, said during an interview with The Cut.
“I’m not telling her what to do all the time, it’s not like that at all,” she continued. “I want her to feel comfortable, I want her to feel confident with what I’m doing, and I want her to like it overall, and she does. I think it shows, and that’s part of what people are picking up on.”
Currie said that this is her first season working with McCain, which might explain the change in the host’s hairstyles compared to earlier seasons.
“I’m on The View now, but I mostly work with people who are on the news,” she added. “There’s no fun hair and fun makeup; it’s very straightforward, and obviously more conservative. Working with Meghan and The View, I get to be more creative and more artistic with the looks.”
According to Currie, McCain’s hairstyles typically “revolve around what she’s wearing, which I don’t know every day.”
“She might just have a black sweater on, or she might have something a little more fun, and that dictates the direction, which shapes and colors I emphasize,” she said. “I like to stay on-trend, but I like to put my own stamp on things, so it’s never exactly what you see on Instagram or Snapchat or all these other platforms.”
This does put the hair in a different light. First of all, kudos to Carmen for trying to add some personality to Meghan – champion effort. And a lot of the styles have been well crafted, so she’s obviously talented. I’ll bet Carmen was excited to get to go all out on Meghan’s ‘do each day. First, she found out she had to work on Meghan, and she thought, ‘What? Her?!’ And then Meghan said, ‘yeah, but you can do anything you want. Like, birds and honey buns-level anything,’ and Carmen was all ‘Score!’ Aw man, now I’ve got to give McMegs some props. This is the most I’ve ever appreciated about her. A lot of conservative blondes find a hairstyle and stick with it until they’re 10 years in the grave. The fact that she was willing to take some risks – and let’s be honest, calling them risks is being kind – is a nice shade on her.
Meghan acknowledged that she’s “just having fun.” She said COVID and just having a baby has released her inner experimental diva. She’s also seen our comments about her follicle midlife crisis and responded with, “let a bitch live!” Done! Even though I’m not a huge fan of many of the lewks Meghan’s sported, I do appreciate having fun with one’s hair. One of the reason’s I grow my hair out is so I can switch up the ‘do depending on my mood. Clearly, I’m going to have to think outside the box if I want to keep up with Meghan, though. Although, it’s probably easier for her to achieve her styles. I imagine the stick shoved so far up her butt helps keep her head still for Carmen to do the work.

Yup. I love her hair styles, even when they miss the mark, they’re fun and interesting. (And… I’ll leave it at that!)
So…we’re not going to say anything about these being black hairstyles (cornrows, puffs, etc.)? I don’t want her wearing these styles and subjecting them to ridicule.

Nope, not this time. She and her hair dresser can have all the criticism you must dish, but, really, this is cultural appropriation? From who, some kindergartners? These hairdos may be a bit juvenile and they may not be everyone’s preference, but they are pretty typical hairstyles in the European hair world. The braids you’re calling “cornrows” are French braids; there may be three of them and they be poofy on top, but that’s some run of the mill white girl braids. Those “puffs?” –pretty sure those are some pigtails tuned into buns on each side. Yes, kind of juvenile, not cultural appropriation. People with long wavy or straight hair have been pulling it up or back or twisting into a smaller mound for millenia—at least one would imagine since long hair gets in the way. I tie mine in a knot with the hair itself. Not appropriating; being functional. Calling too many things appropriation weakens and demeans an important issue.
I like her new hairstyles. Don’t watch the view, but they are daring and fun in the pics. She’s not my favorite person, but she’s attractive and can carry the looks.
I’m still not convinced that Meghan’s hairstylist doesn’t hate her, but oh well. If Meg wants to have fun with her hair all the more power to her.

Because that hair comes off as neither fun (nor is it remotely flattering on Meghan). On her it looks like over tight dance routine hair.

Meghan’s hairstylist needs to look at the TV screen and realize that the blondes don’t match. (real hair and fake hair.) I mean, how difficult is that? That would be a start! She is a beautiful woman, needs a better hair stylist. Although, as a former busy busy young mom I can see how a lot of her styles look very last minute or even self-styled due to things going on behind the scenes. :shrug:
On another note, I’ve been extremely gratified lately that Meghan is AGREEING with the others about controversial issues. I’ve been watching since the lockdown/Zoom episodes. It’s possible to watch now because they all take a turn and there’s no violent interrupting. It had been years since I could stand to watch but lately I’ve been watching every morning. The women on there really prepare, including Meghan. Yes, I’ve been shocked about Meghan, but gratified.
I may have to dress as her for Halloween.

Is it just me or does she sort of look like Madonna?? I’ve never thought this before about her but several of these pics look like Madonna to me.

She does this to get people talking. People talking about her is how she keeps her job. The point isn’t to look good or have fun.
I find it hilarious that her hairstyles are obviously styles worn by black women.
She’s wearing hairstyles that at are popular for black women. Nothing ugly about them, just not necessarily for her hair type.
That’s the mismatch. On *her* they look clownish and appropriated. I’m White and have zero claim to Black hair or hairstyles, but on her head? It makes me want to say “get those hairstyles out of your hair.” I implied above that I still think her hairdresser is a part of the resistance.
I used to wear my hair like this when I was little. It was very popular to style it like princess Leah. I remember everyone in my ballet class would. I wouldn’t wear it now as an adult but I like that she’s has fun fun with her hair.

this is a running joke in my home, i keep telling my wife that i cant start my citizenship process until have decided my final hair do. Her mom and sister are fairly conservative blondes that havent changed their hair in the last 10 years as far as i can see on their family pictures.

Hecate, thank you for covering this. Of all the things we can judge MM for her hairstyles have never bothered me. I appreciate that she takes risks with her looks even when they’re a huge miss. Her goofy looks humanize her and even give me **a bit** of a soft spot for her. Let a bitch live indeed.
I’m glad her hairstylist is having fun but Megan looks awful. The styles never match the tone of her outfits. Many of the styles look too tight. “Fun” styles on white women, especially with bright blond hair, are extremely distracting. And none of the styles are big enough for her, if that makes sense. Her head looks puny.
Also something to be said for your style matching your personality. Seeing someone like Megan with hair buns is just jarring. Like, don’t try to convince me you’re fun, that just comes off as manipulative and weird.
