I was surprised to see how much “credit” Prince William got for taking part in the social media boycott started by British footballers this past weekend. William’s boycott got widespread coverage in the American and British media. What was weird was that… he didn’t even really boycott. He and Kate gave Charlotte’s birthday portrait to the Buckingham Palace social media team to post online, which is not adhering to the spirit of a boycott. If it hadn’t been Charlotte’s birthday, I’m not even sure anyone would have noticed William’s boycott anyway – it’s not like the Kensington Palace team posts a lot on weekends anyway. In any case, now that the boycott is over, William was ready to work! And by that we mean he visited his favorite football team and “listened” as people explained their charitable efforts. I’m sure William nodded a few times and pointed at things.
Prince William is seeing firsthand how his favorite soccer team is helping their local community amid the coronavirus pandemic. The royal stepped out on Tuesday in the West Midlands, visiting the Aston Villa High Performance Centre to hear about the club’s community outreach and support initiatives through the Aston VillaFoundation. Prince William, who is a longtime Aston Villa fan, met a number of the club’s players, many of whom have been actively involved in supporting the work of the Aston Villa Foundation’s projects.
Over the weekend, Prince William joined a four-day social media boycott organized by England’s high-profile soccer clubs and their players. The boycott hoped to encourage social media companies to take stronger action against racist and sexist abuse online.
During his visit, William met representatives from several projects including Villa Kitchen, a project which sees the kitchens at the soccer stadium produce approximately 1,000 hot meals a week which are then donated to local groups in need. He also heard about the clinics that began operating in March 2020 due to the pandemic. The Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust worked with the club to equip six hospitality boxes to provide consultation rooms for local expectant and new mothers, delivered by a team of community midwives. After one year, the midwifery team see up to 60 patients a day at the stadium.
Prince William also formally opened the new High Performance Centre. The Centre has been designed to assist the athletes to become the best they can be, providing access to high quality facilities specifically designed for elite performance.
The Aston Villa organization sounds amazing and like they’re doing tons of great work in their community. Meanwhile… did you hear that William boycotted social media? Did you hear that it was his anniversary last week? Did you hear that he’s still incandescent with rage at his brother? What I’m saying is that William doesn’t have a lot going on and it’s becoming more and more noticeable. How many times can they ring the “preparing to be king” bell? Dude is just shy of his 39th birthday and all he’s got going on, work-wise, is stuff like this. Where he’s opening gyms and listening to people talk about THEIR work.

I confess, I saw the video and almost fell out of my chair laughing.. good to see that the future of the Monarchy is not in jeopardy with all hard work PW is doing.. the mini curtains were my favorite.
It really IS mind-boggling to think that at his age, he has started NOTHING, has NO ACHIEVEMENT to his *own* name, and he has not ONE OUNCE of shame about it (he even boasts that he and his lazy wife will do even LESS once they “take over” the job).
Meanwhile, as much as I don’t like Charles, at least he started TPT, that helps thousands, as well as doing the tours and the B&B stops. Harry, by age 19 started Sentable, and then Invictus. He did the trek to the Antartica with wounded vets, and continues to help others ( even here, delivering Meals on Wheels, packing and handing out school supplies to kids).
And yet, TOB has NO SHAME that he has done NOTHING similar to what his father and his brother have accomplished.

If they don’t give Wills his shiny new royal yacht, he’s going to do even less. Just watch.

Him and Katie Keen love doing those animated hand gestures,i wonder if its just that it gets captured to look like they are so engaged and actually interested in an intellectual exchange.
Those hand gestures bug the heck out of me. TOB and Keen have the exact same hand movements and, if you notice, they are the only ones in the conversation that do that. It makes me think that they were coached together on their poor body language at these events and they complained, “But what do we do with our hands?” So the coach recommended using these animated gestures as a way to show enthusiasm or to aid in expressing themselves. It looks truly dorky at this point.
I had an uncle who „talked with his hands” too. We were always laughing that today he talked so much his hands hurt.
I talk with my hands constantly, I don’t know if its nervous energy or what, so I don’t blame them for that in itself, but their hand motions are so similar that it does make me think they were coached.

I literally can NOT talk without using my hands! I was an expert at social distancing long before COVID, because if anyone came within arms reach of me while I was talking they risked getting hit by my hands lol. I find it impossible to describe something while sitting on my hands, which I’ve often been forced to do while playing board games, just so that I don’t give away clues/the answer. And I’m not even Italian. 🙂
I am sure all the CB hand talkers are using your hands as an authentic part of your body language in your own unique ways! But to me, TOB & KEEN’s movements look like stage direction: “OK, now, tilt your head and look interested. Then return head to an upright position and clasp hands in front of you while listening. Whilst speaking, if it does not feel natural to continue to hold your hands in front of you, then extend your arms and curl your fingers as if you are weighing two melons and move them in an up and down or circular motion, pausing occasionally for impact”.

Taking the melon position and expanding on it, join your fingers together and fold them inwards toward your thumbs and touch them, and shake your hands at the other person in an up-and-down gesture. It loosely means “what are you saying!?” in a disbelieving manner with an incredulous expression on your face. Greatly used in highly emotive Italian conversations. Good to use with the Cambridges too!

Its funny because with talks of slimming down the monarchy they are also talking about slimming down the amount of engagements. I wonder how the British taxpayers will feel about funding a family in exchange for “service” when that service becomes noticeably less
They need to cut expenses too. There is no need for all of that funding for a handful of royals and hardly any work. But they’ve already got plans for all three Cambridge kids to be full time working royals because they are stupid and greedy.

I really don’t want to say this, but how prepared are George, Charlotte, and Louis going to be for their roles with parents like Bread and Bitter? They are 40 and still they aren’t full time royals. They’ve been putting off work for a decade, 2 if we’re counting Kate’s pre royal life, and have been easing the public into expecting even less work. They can’t teach their children about hard work, dedication, diligence, or public speaking. It’s going to be difficult for G, C, and L to know the roles. Here’s hoping they are allowed to develop a personality because that is all they will have.

Okay how exactly is this going to help aston villa? I keep seeing the royals do these type of engagements where they listen to how other charities help the community and then thats it. Did he offer them additional funds? Did he ask them what else was urgently needed in the community? If so is he going to launch a project with them. This counts as an engagement but its not actual work. Did you guys also noticed that environmentalist William came by helicopter?

And Cecilia good point. I quite liked Meghan asking at the end of zooms if there was anything the org needed from her& harry, more support they can provide. Probably a good opportunity for the org to tell the viewing public actually could use eg spare footballs or more volunteers to sign up etc so good way for these royal visits to have tangible follow ups for the orgs.
Tho i find these type of engagements completely useless, i do agree that they need to increase their visibility if they want to make it look like a monarchy is actually necessary. Instead they have plans to cut down these type of engagements so that the can do more “focused work”.

This engagement demonstrates how absolutely useless the Royals are to organizations and how these appearances are just opportunities to for them to look like their doing something. William has been a fan of Aston Villa. He been photographed at and games and whenever they want him to look like just “one of the boys” they trot him out to an event. Yet this is the first time there has been any mention of the club having a foundation. He could have been highlight the community service of this club for years. Could have been helping them raise money. That would have been an easy assignment for him but he hasn’t done that. This engagement shouldn’t have been about him “listening and learning”. That should have already been done behind the scenes. This should have been about what can be done to further the work, to enhance the work.
But he wore Aston Villa colours! That counts as work, right?
