This week, New York state’s Attorney General concluded her inquiry into Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Starting last fall, a series of women spoke out publicly about Gov. Cuomo’s sexual harassment and inappropriate – nay, criminal – behavior. The AG’s inquiry found that Cuomo had indeed sexually harassed eleven women, and not only that, he set out to punish several of the women who spoke out about his harassment. President Biden says Cuomo needs to go, and that Cuomo should simply step down ahead of an inevitable removal by the legislature. Most powerful national Dems – like Nancy Pelosi – are saying similar things, that Cuomo can’t govern at this point, that he needs to step down for the good of the state (and the party). Cuomo has exhausted the goodwill of his allies within the state too:
A day after the release of a devastating report concluding that he had sexually harassed 11 women, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo found himself increasingly isolated on Wednesday, with his most loyal supporters abandoning him and four prosecutors saying they would investigate his behavior. Several unions that had long been aligned with Mr. Cuomo withdrew their support on Wednesday. Two past members of his administration — including a former legal adviser who had been consulted in the governor’s strategic meetings on how to fight the accusations — asked him to resign.
By late afternoon, Mr. Cuomo had lost the backing of perhaps his closest political ally, Jay Jacobs, the head of the state’s Democratic Party, who has been the governor’s staunchest defender in recent months. In a statement, Mr. Jacobs said that the governor’s removal from office was “inevitable,” and that Mr. Cuomo’s refusal to step down ran counter to Mr. Jacobs’s advice. “The governor has lost his ability to govern, both practically and morally,” said Mr. Jacobs, who was handpicked by Mr. Cuomo for the job in 2019.
Mr. Cuomo was in Albany on Wednesday, remaining out of public view. He gave no response to the disclosure that prosecutors in Manhattan and Albany had already opened criminal investigations, and prosecutors in Westchester and Nassau Counties asked the attorney general’s office for investigative materials, or to the news that one of his accusers intended to file a lawsuit against him. (On Wednesday evening, Syracuse.com reported that the Oswego County prosecutor, Greg Oakes, would request materials related to one of the accusations made in the report.)
Cuomo had been preparing to run for reelection next year but that’s over now. He already had a war chest of political contributions and if not for his serial predation, he likely would have easily won re-election. Before this week, he was ahead in all of the early polls. Now the State Assembly has opened an impeachment inquiry which could move pretty fast if Cuomo refuses to resign. The NYT’s sources claim that the State Assembly could complete an impeachment inquiry within a month and draw up articles of impeachment for the governor by early September. If it goes that far, they would have the impeachment trial in late September. I seriously doubt it will get that far. Right now, his old Dem allies are just giving him a few days to understand that he needs to resign.

It’s about time that powerful men understand the “radical” concept that women are also people, with all the rights that come with citizenship.
And a round of applause please for NY Attorney General Letisha James, who isn’t scared of anyone.
Letitia. And you’re right, she won’t be intimidated by anyone.
ABSOLUTELY
Yes, and also that power doesn’t give you free rein to indulge your sick whims on the people who work for you.
Good riddance. I hope a progressive governor takes his place.
I want a woman.
You’ll get one. Kathy Hochul becomes governor when he resigns.
Yes but it will be cut throat to see who gets nominated for the election in 2022

While I recognize that not all women are wonderful allies, in places where there is more actual, measurable gender equality-and more women in positions of power, things sure seem to demonstrate improvements. The Patriarchy has had its run; how about we give the rest of us a chance to see how we can do better & be better.
When these initial accusations came to light Cuomo was sooo confidant that his political clout would be able to bury them. His constant retort was “ Let the AG’s investigation determine my culpability”
Now that it’s clearly not gone his way he’s mystified his political machinations aren’t what they used to be.
Like so many powerful men, he can’t quite believe his day is over.
This is it EXACTLY!
100%
They have gotten away with so much, for so long…and it seems unfathomable to them and those who have lived like them around the world that they are being held to account for any of it. I am here for all of it.
I worked in state politics and the behavior from the males – whether politicians or their male staff was disgusting.
Unfortunately men prey on women and more so younger women. Abusers know who to prey on. That is why it is so important to talk to our daughters and nieces about this. I also talk to my sons, they too should know the difference between right and wrong, as well as standing up for a female when she has been harassed.
Ugh. I really only want to vote for women. But then i will see a video clip of Laura Ingraham cackling with Lara Trump about “anchor babies” or some such brutal, cruel, nonsense, and I will think well, I will take a Beto or a Pete every day and twice on Sunday to that. But we need more women, always. I want more situations where I can look at the candidates, think to myself, you know they’re all pretty good, and then do “all other things being equal, I’ll vote for the woman”. Because when all other things are equal, I will ALWAYS choose the woman.
This….I’ve done lobbying in several northeast states and in DC and it is pretty awful across the board. NY is up there with DC as the worst, though in Albany in most circles Cuomo was more known for being a bully to all genders than a sexual harasser/predator. The culture in Albany has always been questionable but he made it exponentially worse. His wheeling and dealing to keep the big unions in his debt is legendary, and I’d guess this report will open Pandora’s Box for investigations into some of the other things he’s done (where did the Buffalo Billions actually go?!). Cuomo SO BADLY wanted a 4th term, he says to vindicate his dad but think it’s more about his ego. Even naming the “new” Tappan Zee the Mario Cuomo Bridge….legend has it he actually pushed through the name because eventually it would be just called the Cuomo Bridge and people would affiliate it with Andrew, not Mario.
He’s a creep and has ALWAYS been an embarrassment to me politically and ALWAYS reminded me of Trump…and this being his lasting legacy is appropriate.
He’s gonna take his brother down with him too I think. Which is really something. I loved Mario Cuomo that’s all I can say. If you had been in NY back then, you know he lost the governorship over the death penalty? he 100% did. He had such moral clarity and was a big influence on me. And this is right at the time Bill Clinton had to go back to Arkansas to oversee an execution in order to become President, because believe me, the country was NOT THERE. When I tell you NEW YORK was not there, that should tell you what you need to know.
But Mario didn’t bend. What a shame that his son is such a, well, I really think he’s a bad guy.
Lala I don’t know how I made this a reply to you, it wasn’t supposed to be! I’m not lecturing you, LOL. I messed that up.
Darla, I agree with you. I was just reminiscing about Mario with a friend yesterday. Sad (but not shocked) that Andrew is not cut from the same moral fabric.
Why would he take his brother with him? Chris seems like a nice guy and I haven’t heard of any stuff like this around him.
DU, because Chris is in some trouble over at CNN for helping his brother with statements and responses. Recent stories are that other talent there are fuming about it. Also, he can’t cover this and it’s a big story.
Darla…Mario was also one of my FAVORITE Govenors from back in the day…which is ANOTHER reason why I despise Andrew….
@Digital Unicorn — Chris Cuomo is very problematic. Apart from Darla’s comment, he’s done everything from accusing Amanda Knox of being into freaky sex during an interview, crashing his car into a parked Mercedes after drinking at a party all day, threatening to throw a heckler down the stairs who called him “Fredo” (the weak brother from The Godfather) — there’s a video on Twitter of him yelling “I’ll f***ing ruin your s**t,” “I’ll f***ing throw you down the stairs”. An altogether charming fellow.
Ah, thanks for the update ladies – seems being a mega douche runs in the family.
He is very Trumpy indeed. If only Trump would be less impervious to consequences.
I am waiting for the day that Democrats go after Republicans as hard as they go after other Democrats.
All these powerful men are predatory nightmares.
No kidding! Why are they such wusses with the Republicans? January 6 seems to be all but forgotten. At least they do seem to go after their own when there is good reason. Although i’m guessing it only happens once transgressions become public. That at least sets them apart from the Republicans who defend even their most reprehensible colleagues.
It is absolutely mind-boggling to me.
THIS. SO MUCH THIS.
Why would Dems go hard after sexual predator Republicans when Republican voters would JUST vote them right back in AFTER losing their minds regarding Dems policing their behavior…
It’s up to the Leaders of each Party to deal with rancid behavior within their party and we ALREADY know that being a sexual predator for Republicans is an ASSET…not a detriment
I’m actually glad that the democrats go after their own party for immorality. it is a key difference between democrats and Republicans. Republicans, at least in national politics, will not enforce morality on their colleagues. Funny when you think they are the supposed to be the religious party.
Good! Take ! Out! The! Trash!
Glad he’s getting ousted for any reason, but wish it was for all the nursing home deaths he’s responsible for. If it wasnt for him being a creep, he would still be on CNN every night laughing it up with his brother.
If he resigns so do Beavis/Butthead Gaetz and Kegstand Kavanaugh.
The Dems take out their trash. The Repugs promote it.
+1
100%
This is another example of why people should not worship politicians. Cuomo was a hot commodity last year people were all he could do no wrong, etc. It’s ironic also how he went after Gulliani & Trump but he was swimming in the same waters.
Glad Sandra Lee got out before this mess started. Kwanzaa cake aside, she seems like a good person.
