Today is Princess Charlene’s birthday. She has not been seen publicly since November 8th, which is when she (finally) returned to Monaco after spending much of 2021 in South Africa. Soon after she arrived back in Monaco, Prince Albert sent her off to an undisclosed “treatment facility” somewhere in Europe. She has not been seen since. She missed Monaco’s National Day, she missed her children’s birthday, she missed Christmas with her family and now she’s spending her own birthday alone, in a “treatment facility.”
Princess Charlene of Monaco is understood to be celebrating her birthday alone as she continues to receive treatment for ’emotional and physical exhaustion’. Charlene, who turns 44 today, shared a slideshow of photos to mark the occasion, including candid snaps of her husband Prince Albert, 63, and their seven-year-old twins Jacques and Gabriella.
The video, originally posted by her charity the Princess Charlene Foundation, also shows Charlene meeting world leaders and royals, and celebrates her successful swimming career.
Princess Charlene’s birthday marks yet another milestone without her family, after she missed her twins’ birthday and Christmas last month.The former Olympic swimmer was admitted to an undisclosed treatment facility in November, within days of her return to Monaco following a 10-month absence in her native South Africa.
Albert has remained vague as to the exact cause of Charlene’s illness, although he has said she is suffering from ’emotional and physical exhaustion’. Last month it emerged she is still ‘months away’ from a full recovery.
Albert took their children to visit their mother over the Christmas holidays but it is not known whether they are planning a trip to mark her birthday today. The official Monaco palace Instagram account has yet to share anything in honour of Charlene’s birthday.
The Instagram for Palais Princier de Monaco (the Prince’s Palace) did post the same birthday video, the one which Charlene reposted on her own IG. I absolutely think it’s odd/weird that she didn’t post a personal message, just as I think it’s bizarre that Albert didn’t offer some kind of personal message to Charlene on her birthday too. But honestly, this whole f–king thing has been completely weird, from start to finish. Charlene’s escape to South Africa, her health issues, her return, her treatment… who even knows. I hope she’s okay and I hope she’s genuinely receiving world-class treatment.

All I can say is thank goodness those two kids have each other. I know it’s a life of privilege in many respects, but it can’t be easy having parents like that.

There something about this whole thing that doesn’t seem quite kosher, or at least it is very bad communications. I’m wondering if she is indeed “banished” or has been “locked away” somewhere for the foreseeable future, or being “imprisoned” at some expensive medical facility. I would believe that she has suffered a catastrophic mental breakdown.
None of this makes any sense. I think as well as her physical ailments she had some kind of nervous/emotional breakdown and a possible ED. Her behaviour pre-illness was a big red flag. I wish her well and hope she fully recovers.

Could it be that dealing with Albert is emotionally exhausting?
The Royalists will tell you that there’s nothing wrong in the relationship between Charlene and Albert and that she’s just recovering from her illness which was as a result of her dental surgery. I’ll leave them to their delusions.
That photo of her as a baby is the spitting image of her son.
I hope everything is ok with her. This whole ordeal is weird and scary for the kids. Didn’t he allude she was struggling with addiction a while back? Maybe she was hooked on pills like opioids or something. She looked really unwell and I do hope she is getting good help.
This is what happens when you don’t capitulate and comply to the royal rules. And was forced to endure endless abuse in the press and by the system she was surrounded by. This is where Meghan was headed if she and Harry didn’t escape.

Charlene tried to escape and had a breakdown.
Kate is playing ball but wasting away, and probably hopped up on mood altering pills.
And the Japanese Royal Family is just as bad with what they did to break the Empress.
This was depressing as hell. I had to stop after a minute only to realize that it was 3 min long. Something is definitely not right.

There appears to be something much more serious going on than they are saying. I know it’s none of my business and she has a right to privacy, but they don’t have to lie to the public (saying nothing is better than lying).
Hope this isn’t the Monaco Royals version of disappearing Shelly Miscavage.

Can’t risk her escaping again, she might give an interview to Oprah or something.
My working theory is she came out of her medical procedures with an opiate addiction, and they’re desperately trying to preserve her privacy while also dealing with the issue so she doesn’t die.
A few months in rehab is what’s needed when someone’s badly addicted, and a locked-down rehab is best when the person is likely to attract bottom-feeders and enablers.
I actually think Albert’s doing his best to get the mother of his children help while also keeping a lid on the rumours for her sake. There may have been some weird dynamics in their relationship, but I don’t think this is an instance of one.
