A very pretty lady indeed. And that’s why I don’t care for any of the Cyrano de Bergerac movies. The message should be that looks don’t matter, it’s what’s on the inside — but the *actual* message is always that a MAN’s looks don’t matter, it’s what’s on the inside, but a woman has to be beautiful for men to fall in love with her. The secondary message (which the Incels believe) is that no matter how “out of your league” a woman might seen, any man who wants her is *entitled* to her, otherwise she is a b!tch.

You make a very good point. I knew I never liked Cyrano & now I know why.
But the latest Cyrano gives us another opportunity to watch Peter Dinklage doing stuff. He’s one actor I will watch doing any kind of stuff. He’s such a master at his craft.
When I’d seen PD talking about this film on some panel, it made me really want to see it. But then when I saw the trailer my interest dulled completely.
Part of it was the disparity you’re speaking of: she seemed so much younger than Cyrano and and was depicted focused on her luminous and beautiful appearance and Cyrano looked grubby with messy hair … it was like every red carpet – the woman dolled up in fancy gowns, impeccable hair and make up and heels; dude in sneakers, schlubby pants and t-shirt, looking like he just rolled out of bed. Plus there was an off-putting vibe in trailer that I think you’ve all put your finger on.
I find redheads intriguing, Sarah Snook on Succession is just gorgeous.

@katie – me, too! My son loved to watch it with me because I’m a full/time single mom and he could see himself in the kids. A surprising amount of sitcoms still revolve around two-parent families, and he really loved being like – oh, that’s like me! Or he’d comment about how he related to the kids
Same here, katie & Dena Landon! Was a good show, even if a little cheesy, and as another single mom I appreciated the visuals for my elementary aged son as well. Leighton is great in everything though, IMO – I was a sucker for gossip girl for sure!
It’s a creepy bunch of tropes: the female lead looks like a child, it’s okay for men to lie during “the chase,” its okay for the “good-hearted” man to also lie, men can’t say no to f*cking with a woman if it’s for a bro. That being said, I love PD.
