The main trio from Only Murders in the Building appeared at Disney’s upfronts presentation in New York and obviously stopped for some press interviews since the show’s second season is premiering in about a month. The three leads stopped for an interview with ET Online and since they couldn’t say much about the second season of Only Murders, they talked about social media and Selena hosting SNL. Steve Martin appeared in one of her her pre-recorded sketches, it’s a shame Martin Short wasn’t in one too.

For someone who talks about how she hasn’t been online for over four years, Selena sure seems pretty online and talks about it enough. She has a Twitter and an Instagram and apparently a TikTok. How does it work, does someone run them for her and tell her what content to create to promote her projects and stay on trend? Or does she tell them things she wants to tweet and post? That makes sense for Twitter and Instagram, but having a TikTok seems more online because there seem to be a lot of trends (idk what to call them because I don’t have a TikTok) that you only really understand if you’re on TikTok yourself. What Selena says about TikTok is something I’ve heard from others as well — that it’s a better alternative to Instagram, which is overwhelmingly fake and makes people feel bad. I agree about Instagram, but I only have that because I don’t need yet another time suck. I’ve been trying to minimize my time on Instagram as it is (there are other things I could be doing) so I don’t need to add another app to stare at on my phone, even if it is a more relaxed community.

It depends on your algo (which follows your likes and tendencies anyway) but so far I’m very happy with TikTok. I’ve learnt a lot of things, even on investments and career knowledge on TikTok. I block dance content so I don’t get those because they’re not my interest. I don’t need any other social media. I use it but I don’t post content. I understand why Facebook and Insta are threatened by it. The algo is way superior and small creators and businesses can easily go viral. I’m a liberal so the community for the content I follow are generally supportive and not toxic.
I totally agree. I rarely come across toxicity on TikTok because the algorithm has been whittled down to what I enjoy. So that might be an echo chamber, so what. My echo chamber consists of a farmer with baby goats, a feral cat colony with soap opera drama, a horse that can smile and crack his own neck, and recipes.
I think her generation has a different idea of what it means to not be online. Maybe she means she just doesn’t read/engage with comments? Or she really has someone else run her accounts but how would she know about the easy-going TikTok community?
Is the show good? I’ve had it on my list for a while now.
I loved her show, it was my favourite comedy of last year.
I just assume most celebs have a social media assistant that trawls for tends, tells them what to film, edits/posts for them, and then gives (positive) feedback on the response. This is 100% what I would do if rich and famous at least.
The show is awesome. My only complaint is that it is too short. Each episode flies by.
I agree, I do wish the episodes were longer. And its one of the few shoes that I’ve stuck with and tuned in every week. I’m terrible at bailing on shows in the middle and never going back to finish watching the whole season.
I think you can have accounts, but still consider yourself not online much.
Compared to influencers her output online might be a bit less.
I usually only see her promoting her make-up line, but I don’t see her posting super personal stuff that often like less famous influencers do.
I find Instagram useful for messaging friends, but I do find it kind of useless for pretty much everything else. There are only so many selfies of people, even very beautiful people, you can look at. I assume this is done for dating though — otherwise, I don’t really get the fascination with the selfie. If you’re getting dates or a marriage proposal out of this, then clearly there’s a purpose. If I want to watch personal trainers, I just go to Youtube for that. I don’t need Instagram for the gym advice either.
There are some really fascinating Instagram accounts out there! I love ones of ultra-realistic Korean tattoos of famous paintings, florists from all over the world, Michelin star chefs sharing their plating, historic sites and palaces, art pages of all kinds like people crafting these insane cakes with sugar flowers and making them look like Monet paintings, things like that.
I’m an older millenial and I’m on Tiktok a lot. I agree with her, it’s a much kinder community than on some other social media and it’s been like balm to me during covid especially

Yeah. TikTok is just as toxic as any other platform and in instances like that, often worse. I actually find Instagram much more soothing because you can focus on photography/aesthetic accounts much more and curate your feed.

I know Celebitchy is super careful about how they discuss this matter (which I really appreciate) but I hope we talk about this. I am blocking content mocking Amber/making light of the trial/fangirling over JD left and right, and yet it STILL keeps coming up. It is rampant and at this rate feels like yet another dedicated smear campaign sponsored by JD.
I hope so too. Many you tubers I like mock amber and many comments say she’s evil and then use that as an excuse as “proof” that feminism bad. If someone says he’s also kinda bad the response is that’s impossible because she’s the narcissist abuser with all the power. Then there is the deuxmoi sub on Reddit which is pro amber. There, if someone says she’s also kinda bad the response is that’s impossible because he’s the narcissist abuser (and male, richer older etc) with all the power. I saw some of the court on YT they both have behaved very cruelly at this or that point. Apparently I’m an abuser sympathizer if I acknowledge they both were sometimes quite mean, and both in some ways violent. I’m not on tiktok mainly because it’s connected to the ccp but I’m upset to hear about how amber is mocked there and how popular those tt are. Let’s say amber is 100% guilty and her ex was 100% innocent; still people shouldn’t mock her (“falsely”) accusing him of abuse in an entertaining way, that is going to be a huge deterrent for real victims to come forward and report. In addition it is fuel for the men’s “rights” (they already have rights😐) sjw groups. Unbelievably a lot of people are using amber being /seeming questionable to project that one situation broadly and act like men are the real victims and it’s some kind of horror that women are always believed. Unbelievable because women are still not always believed and still don’t always come forward even if they have solid proof.

Because IG is garbage now. If it isn’t ads, it is not accounts you are not even following in your feed and it is dozens if not more of them before you even get to the feeds of the accounts you follow. When you say you are not interested and still try to mute aspects of your account, it still multiplies.
