File this one under “Worst (and Most Insulting) Ideas Ever”. According to Production Weekly, someone idiotic is pitching a remake of Thelma & Louise. Only this one will be, in Moviehole’s words “pre-menopausal”. Insulted yet? Director Jessica Manafort wants to do the remake with Amber Heard (who I had never heard of) and Leighton Meester (from Gossip Girl). I just looked Amber Heard up, and I think I can safely say she’s just another blonde “It Girl” wannabe, someone who just looks like all of the other girls. She was in Pinapple Express, and I have absolutely no recollection of her. As for Leighton, I think she’s a very pretty girl, and she’s got some acting chops, but I still feel a big, fat “NOOO!” when thinking of her in this project. Here’s more from Moviehole:
Amber Heard (“All The Boys Love Mandy Lane’’) and Leighton Meester (TVs ‘’Gossip Girl’’) will star in a pre-menopausal version of ‘Thelma & Louise’, according to Production Weekly.
Jessica Manafort is attached to direct ‘’Cowgirl Bandits’’, with Paul Schiff producing.
Manafort worked with Heard on the 2007 comedy ‘’Remember the Daze’’. The movie, which Manafort also wrote, revolved around the relationship dynamics of a group of suburban teens on the last day of school in 1999. Heard played a cool “stoner” chick who is looking for direction and meaning in her life.Heard is known for playing the lead role in the popular but mistreated ”All the Boys Love Mandy Lane”, as well as for her performances in ”The Pineapple Express” and ‘The Informers”. She next appears with Johnny Depp in ”The Rum Diary”.
Meester is best known for her role on CW’s ”Gossip Girl”. She also has a top ten track in the charts at the moment – Good Girls Go Bad.

Here’s the thing about Thelma & Louise – it was a really, really good movie. Maybe it’s not cool to admit that now, or maybe it’s been so long that people forget how groundbreaking and awesome that film is, but it’s totally worth it’s iconic status. First of all, it’s one of Ridley Scott’s best films, and that’s saying something. The way Scott directed it – with the washed out desert colors, the twists and cuts in the story, the two women against the larger (epic) landscape, it’s all pretty amazing. Plus, he got two of the best performances ever out of Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon, two of the best actresses working at that time. I could go on, but do I need to? This film doesn’t need to be remade, and it really doesn’t need to be remade with some asinine commercial director with two actresses with little more to offer than dimples.

The director’s father is a bigshot Republican advisor and lobbyist who dabbles in movie producing. His assistant helped write her application to Tisch and he has pulled strings and financed her every career move. Money can get a project greenlit but it can’t buy taste.
What is up with all these remakes?! I know movies lately have been crap, but I have an idea. Instead of remaking all these great movies, why don’t they actually hold out for a really great new script.
Please don’t do this. Please.
NO..this subject is in the same vain of Billy Bob touring Canada this fall with his new face, NO, NO, NO, NOT GOING TO HAPPEN YOU BITCHES, YOU BITCHES FROM HELL..
Ah, that would be a big NO on this one. Besides falling into criminal film-making, who exactly is the target audience? Sure as hell won’t be anyone who saw and enjoyed the original.
I think it would be great if they had Pitt reprise his role and he wore his newsboy hat!
It’s not a remake. The article that’s quoted is poorly written. The movie is called COWGIRL BANDITS and has nothing to do with THELMA & LOUISE. It sounds like the director watns to evoke the spirit of THELMA & LOUISE.
And excuse me but if I remember correctly, neither Sarandon or Davis was at the age of menopause when they did this film. Some whippersnapper publicist should be shot.
Oh my God, I would flippin FREAK over this!!! I don’t know who the other girl is, but can’t you just see Leighton playing Gina Davis’ character?! And how about Matt Lanter from 90210 as Brad Pitt’s??? Oh my gosh, this would just be soooo good, especially if they kept it totally Southern trailer park like the original : )
no. just no.
(Firestarter, brilliant!)
I hope that they do NOT try and remake that film. It is a classic, it needs to be left alone.
Is there some sort of massive lack of writers in Hollywood, they can’t seem to come up with an original idea to save their lives.
from what i’ve heard about the project, it isn’t actually a remake, just a two girls against the world kind of movie that’s being compared to thelma and louise. i read it revolved around the two girls robbing banks for some sort of robin hood-esque means. i could be wrong, but i hope to god for the sake of thelma and louise that i’m not.
Hollywood is obviously in a slump.
Nothing but remakes lately.
All bad.
Oh. My. God. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I don’t remember that girl from Pineapple Express at all, but then again, I didn’t pay too much attention to it. Maybe it’s just me, but that Leighton girl is rather ordinary looking, and I don’t watch her show so I can’t comment on her acting ability. But I do know that neither of these two makes me want to run out and see them in a movie, remake (shudder) of T&L or not.
NO NO NO! (plugs ears, rolls eyes) NO. And honestly, who are they gonna get to replace Brad Pitt?
california angel, I wondered that too.
I know someone who’s an actor, and needs a big break. And I always thought he sorta has a brad-pitt-thing going on.
check it out…

Nooo, not Jessica manafort! I went to high school with her, and let me say that she is the BIGGEST piece of trash to ever walk this Earth. Spoiled, hateful, stuck up little b*tch who only got where she is because her rich daddy gave $2 million to NYU film school and got her in, and because he’s friends with that one director…i think it’s Scorsese (I can never keep them straight) so he used that friendship to get his talentless c*nt of a daughter into film making. If anyone wants stories about this snotty brat, let me know, I’ve got a TON!
grisgris-
Sounds like you know them too? You from Alexandria?
Oh and her movie she made..”The Beautiful Ordinary” was just a total retelling of high school. It infuriates me that “Over It”, the band from that movie (they are a real band BTW), never made it big (The one guy from that band, Seth Watts, is the SWEETEST guy ever and totally deserves success), but this talentless hack gets it because of Daddy’s deep pockets and connections. If she had talent, that would be one thing…but she doesn’t. And she is a nasty piece of work. Everyone in HS HATED her, with the exception of the other snobs she hung out with, because she was spoiled and hateful about it. She didn’t fail in junior year because they bent the rules for her because of Daddy…so she’s never earned anything on her own merit, which just makes it worse. Call me a b*tch but I HATE to see people like her getting anything because not only is she talentless, she’s a horrible person to boot. UGH!!!!
“This film doesn’t need to be remade, and it really doesn’t need to be remade with some asinine commercial director with two actresses with little more to offer than dimples”…
100% agreed! T&L is one of my favorites and it shouldn’t be messed with at all!
Pickelhaube– sounds like you’ve got some serious goss! Me likey, though I’ve never heard of this impostor director nor do I care to know her “body” of work. But I like gossip anyway 🙂
Pickelhaube – tell us more! 🙂
All right…I never had any classes with her in high school, but apparently she would skip school ALL THE TIME. In our school, if you missed, I think it was 3 days and it was unexcused, you would fail. Well, of course she didn’t get failed, because Daddy came in and saved her butt. One of those times she missed a couple days in a row because she decided to run away and shack up with her boyfriend…she also SOMEHOW managed to get A’s and B’s on her report card, despite being a total b*tch to the teacher and never being there…gee I wonder how THAT happened?
Also, she was horridly spoiled. She had a $3,000 dress for homecoming, drove a Range Rover, and was always rubbing it in people’s faces. I played basketball with her in 3rd grade and she loved to make fun of me because I didn’t have the pump Reeboks (remember those? lol). She was always hateful, snotty, and just arrogant about what she had, and apparently got off on flaunting what she had and making fun of those who didn’t have it.
It was weird though, she always seemed to have a special hatred for me. I can’t imagine why, I didn’t have anything that she could possibly have wanted…but she still hated me and was a total b*tch to me. Maybe it’s because she’s so ugly (seriously, google her…she looks like a wonky eyed kitchen witch), I don’t know, but she is a horrible person who has never worked for anything in her life, nor earned anything that she has. She is a mediocre person, is ugly on the inside and out, and will never get anywhere without Daddy’s money. I think she’s pathetic and I hope nobody supports her if she does start directing “real” movies. She does not deserve it.
this is Atrocious! full-on boycott
“Maybe it’s because she’s so ugly (seriously, google her…she looks like a wonky eyed kitchen witch)”
I did yesterday, and she is fugly! 27 my a**! 🙂
Well, she IS 27 because we were in the same grade (and I’m 27), but she does look older. I would imagine that in college, like high school, she spent her time partying and being a general f*ck up because she knew Daddy would buy her degree and her way into Hollywood, just like he bought her everything else, and you know how partying ages you. She wasn’t always so ugly though, I tend to think that her inner ugliness is coming through and showing on the outside, which is what she deserves. And it serves as a warning to everyone who comes into contact with her…ugly on the inside and the outside.
