‘Spare’: Prince William threw a week-long tantrum about Harry’s beard

Prince Harry’s Spare could have been subtitled “How My Petty, Toxic, Jealous Brother Made My Life Hell Until I Broke Free.” That really seems to be the running theme of Harry’s memoir, how Prince William is a toxic a–hole who believed that Harry was his possession, his property, and William could bark orders at Harry throughout their lives. It’s also pretty clear that William was always jealous of Harry – jealous of Harry’s charities, jealous of Harry’s wife, jealous that the Queen seemed to prefer Harry. Speaking of, Harry’s memoir includes a very interesting story about his beard. Harry started wearing a beard in his late 20s, following his second tour of Afghanistan. When his wedding day approached, Harry actually had to get special permission from QEII to keep his beard while marrying in uniform. QEII gave her permission, and William lost his pegging mind about it.

Prince Harry has reportedly claimed that Prince William was “livid” after the Duke of Sussex asked permission from the late Queen Elizabeth II to keep his beard for his 2018 wedding to Meghan Markle. In an excerpt from the royal’s forthcoming autobiography, the 38-year-old royal reportedly wrote that his grandmother gave him the “green light” to keep his facial hair for his televised nuptials to the Suits actress.

However, Harry alleged his older brother “bristled” at the notion and said Harry had put their grandmother in an “uncomfortable position.” During a conversation between the two, Harry reportedly told the Prince of Wales that “his opinion didn’t really matter” because the queen had already said he could keep his face unshaven.

“He raised his voice,” he wrote, adding that William said the queen “had no choice but to say yes” to Harry. The Spare author recalled finding his brother’s claim ridiculous, and told William that “she can speak for herself.”

Harry had speculated that his brother was angry about the beard because he thought the queen had a “soft spot” for the younger prince. While the late British monarch had decided her grandson could wear a beard during his wedding, the fight between the brothers allegedly continued over the phone for an entire week.

“At one point he actually ordered me, as the ‘heir’ speaking to the ‘spare,’ to shave,” Harry wrote. According to Page Six, Prince William allegedly confessed that he was “bitter” that he “wasn’t allowed” to keep his own “full beard” after returning home from a military assignment.

“He hated the idea of me enjoying a perk he’d been denied,” he wrote, adding that William wasn’t able to get married in a uniform of his own choosing while Harry was able to do so. “Finally, I told him flatly and defiantly that his bearded brother was getting married soon, and he could either get on board or not,” Harry said. “The choice was up to him.”

[From The Independent]

Imagine putting the Queen in an awkward position over keeping your beard for your wedding day, my God. “Harry’s beard disrespected the Queen!” No, the Queen cosigned the beard. “Harry’s beard puts the Queen in an awkward position!” No, it’s just a beard. “I DEMAND THAT YOU SHAVE YOUR BEARD, THIS IS THE HEIR SPEAKING.” Shut up, Baldemort. Besides, the rare times when William did have facial hair, he always looked awful. As soon as Harry grew his beard, it was like “oh, this is how he was always supposed to look.” If he ever shaved it, he would go back to looking so baby-faced.

Hot take: the beard makes Harry way more attractive and William can’t handle that lol

    • Naomi says:

yeah i honestly didn’t find harry that attractive until he grew the beard.

i still can’t get over william being like “I, the heir, tell you, the spare, to shave your beard for your wedding.” i guess in the warped world of royalty this passes for normal, but literally *everywhere else* it is total psycho behavior.

also as an aside: harry is coming for william bc he has so much material; they interacted a lot. he probably doesn’t have that much tea to spill about charles’s behavior because of a more damning fact, that charles has basically been an absentee father from the word go.

      • Kittenmom says:

Yes yes yes! The beard masks some of his resemblance to Charles which definitely upped the 🔥 quotient, LOL. The redness of his hair also somehow weirdly makes the beard even better, for me 😹 I often don’t like facial hair, but certain men can really pull it off, with Harry being the prime example. I thought Willy looked terrible with his beard tho.

    • RiaH says:

Exactly! Harry became hot when he grew the beard, and Willy doesn’t like it.

  2. Fuzzy Crocodile says:

I get that this is all about control… but doesn’t he have more important things to worry about that whether his younger brother has a beard at his wedding?

    • Seraphina says:

When people have too much time on their hands they worry about the trivial. If William had to worry about how to put food on the table or had to find a job he wouldn’t worry about his brother’s facial hair. And I agree with @Neners, Wills can’t handle Harry being hotter than him. Which is hilarious.

      • Lemons says:

If Willy had put as much energy into ANY of his patronages as he did this beard, we wouldn’t be talking about this.

He really does nothing in his life.

    • JanetDR says:

Apparently not! Being around William must be exhausting.

    • MF says:

No. He barely works and has no purpose in life other than to exist as the heir so the monarchy doesn’t die out. It’s sad but he really doesn’t have anything more important to do or worry about. *shrug*

      • Nikki (49) says:

((MF says) “He barely works and has no purpose in life other than to exist as the heir so the monarchy doesn’t die out.”)
His purpose is to continue the line. he’s done that. The next Heir exists so Willy is already irrelevant.

    • New.Here says:

This is probably the silliest thing I have ever heard. The fact that W took the time to get wound up about it shows how out of touch he is.

      -People are hungry and unhoused.
-Women and girls are being trafficked daily.
-Shelters are overflowing with unwanted animals.

W spent a week on facial hair.

      • HeyKay says:

        Yes, 1000% agree. New.Here.
And Yes if William had to provide and work 40+ hours a week he’d be a better person. They all have nothing of use to do all day. That is why they spend so much time playing Game of Thrones.

Petty should be the family moto.

      • FeedMeChips says:

This reminds me of the time my “friend” refused to talk to me for a month in 6th grade because I grew my bangs out without asking her first. Very pathetic.

    • Deering24 says:

To someone as screwed-up as William, this stuff _is_ important. He’s been taught everything is about him as Da Heir; all reflects on him. He’s essentially a black hole of rampaging egotistical need and his life is about nothing but trifles.

    • ML says:

This is all about W controlling H, and it’s also about others controlling W. What an effed-up family! And by now, if W really wants the flipping beard: grow the damn beard and stop complaining about your younger brother.

    • Dawning says:

Now if anyone still doubts the reason why Willy brought Earthsh*t to the US, I can’t help you. Harry is here and he has to inserts himself in Harry’s space and take what he has. Glad the whole thing was a flop.

  3. Noki says:

These peoples lives are sooo petty.

    • SarahCS says:

It’s all they have. Most of them barely do anything that any of us would recognise as work and ever where they do/did have passion projects that make a tangible impact (I’m thinking PP and the DoE Awards type thing, not Earthsh!t) they have teams and committees to do all the actual legwork for them.

    • Cessily says:

Yes they are, another good reason to make them get real jobs and abolish the monarchy, with less idle time on their hands would help give them something else to focus on besides their own greed.

    • Deering24 says:

I forget who said it (Balzac, maybe?) but he noted that since the rich don’t work, holding up petty status crap _is_ their idea of work. They are ruled by rules that are always changing and never secure.

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

      Insanely petty.

  4. Veda says:

    William’s mental age is 10. That’s all I’ve got.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Remember all those old videos of toddler William throwing tantrums when Harry accepts something that William has previously rejected? Seems William never grew out of this behaviour. He is basically a 40 year-old toddler.

      • Mary Pester says:

Yes, just like Ken Wharf their bodyguard for years said, “William has always behaved like a petulant child. I bet he has spent the last 12 hours screaming at everyone in the family, his father, Kate the kids and the dog, but he is to afraid of what cowmilla has on HIM to yell at her. Personally I think he couldn’t stand the fact that with his beard, Harry is the image of a young Prince Phillip when he had one, I wish I had a more up to date phone as I would love to be able to add some pictures, but they are there on Google

      • CourtneyB says:

Harry has ALWAYS resembled Philip and Philip’s father Andrew of Greece. Plus he shared temperament and personality. He was cheeky, didn’t stand as much on formality, was a dashing military officer, wicked sense of humor, athletic, tall, chafed at protocol and beefed with the courtiers. I’ve always thought this was largely why the queen had such an obvious soft spot for Harry. I’ll never forget her appearance in his invictus promo. ‘Boom. Really.’ WHO else was she doing that for? No one, that’s who.

  5. Mooney says:

What’s this, North Korea? Where everyone is supposed to keep their haircut like Kim Jong Un?

And yeah, Harry certainly looks better and so handsome with his beard. I remember watching him for the first time in Cain wedding and was like, they were okay looking for princes, and thought of Harry as a funny younger brother (didn’t know much about them). Next time saw him at his wedding and was like woah 😯 this man’s so handsome.

  6. Jan says:

Keep scrolling, you knew what the story was about.

  7. Becks1 says:

I feel like this is about so much more than a beard, right? Harry had something that William wanted and was told he could not have. I feel like you could insert anything in the place of “beard” and the story would have played out the same, and probably did over the course of their lives.

Also, maybe William was told to shave his beard bc the Queen was trying to save him from himself, since he did not look that good in a beard, LOL.

    • T3PO says:

In a way these stories make me feel bad for William. He is a ruined man who has not shaken off the facade of his prince hood while Harry has. He has been primed and raised as a bully and is just this wasted potential. His personality at this point obviously has risen to the occasion, but I wish he had the same journey Harry had.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

I love the idea of the Queen inventing a “stop trying to make fetch happen” protocol for William’s beard.

      • Jay says:

QEII, taking out a photo of a bearded Prince Philip from her purse: “Now THIS is how you wear a beard, William.” Remove that scraggly mess at once!

      • Becks1 says:

LOL, William walks in for tea and the queen is just like OMG SHAVE IT PROTOCOL PROTOCOL SHAVE IT NOW!!!!!! lmao

      • CrazyHeCallsMe says:

@Jay. Maybe Harry reminded the Queen of a young Prince Phillip. There’s a side by side photo of the two sporting beards and they look so much alike.

      • Interested Gawker says:

        😂😂😂

    • Nic919 says:

It is a good way to show just how petty and jealous William remains in adulthood. Especially since Harry was no longer in the army and had the beard for years by then.

And it works because most people are like WTF when they read this.

    • Lurker25 says:

@Becks1, you got the nail on the head as usual. This is about more than the beard. “He hated the idea of me enjoying a perk he’d been denied,” he wrote”
That’s it in a nutshell, right? Egg HATES it when Harry hasc something that he doesn’t, even if it’s something that he (William) never wanted in the first place. From when the queen named Harry head of the Commonwealth whatever to all the way back, in the video of the kids with Diana and she’s calling W but he doesn’t come so she says “alright then Harry will have all the fun” and William shoots out, screaming NO, racing to get whatever it is so Harry can’t have it.

He covets whatever his brother has, just so his brother *can’t have it*… Idk what psychological root problem leads to this, but Jesus is so messed up.

      • Deering24 says:

Lurker25, for a man who has “everything,” everything will never ever be enough. 🙄🙄🙄

    • Harper says:

The Queen isn’t that fond of Willy and his temper tantrums and I imagine she was careful of indulging him in little things (like the beard) because he was such a jerk. Making Willy shave off his beard (listen to her, follow a rule) was good for him. Whereas Harry, who had a more good-natured personality, who was busy working for the Firm, and who had cultivated a warm relationship with the Queen, got the benefit of the Queen’s desire to indulge him. Willy had to feel the Queen’s favoritism and he tried to undermine her consent like the baby he is.

  8. Withouthue says:

The LIES! We LOVE hearing about this book. It’s messy in all the right ways and it’s finally telling all the shit we’ve been wanting to hear about. Please click on another post if you don’t want to hear about the royals.

  9. flow says:

The Queen said no alot over the years namely to her sister marrying the love of her life, to Charles marrying Camilla originally instead of Diana but according to William it’s saying no to a beard that puts her in an uncomfortable position? He’s an absolute idiot!

    • SarahCS says:

I understood that Camilla didn’t want to marry him back in the day, Andrew was her choice not some backup to Charles.

    • notasugarhere says:

Correct, SarahCS. Camilla wanted an affair with Charles but she wanted to marry Andrew Parker-Bowles. Anne did too, which is part of why she dislikes Camilla to this day. They were both sleeping with him, Camilla ‘won’ APB, and Anne continues to resent it. Still apparently not over APB as Anne is said to be cheating on Tim with APB these day.

No, QEII did not say no to Margaret marrying Townsend, although she should have. QEII did everything she could to arrange things, Royal Archives letters prove it. Margaret would keep her title, her massive Apartmnet 1A, her royal duties, her stipend. Her children would not be in the line of succession because Townsend was divorced, that’s it. Margaret CHOSE not to marry him and good thing.

Why do people keep supporting Townsend? He was a married man, sixteen years older than Margaret, who groomed Margaret from when she was a young teen. He started having sex with her when she was 16/7 even during royal tours, demanding the bedroom next to hers. He ended up marrying another woman when he was 45 and she was only 20.

  10. Noor says:

I am glad Prince Harry has managed to put to rest the press-fueled story that Meghan came in between the 2 brothers.

    • Prairiegirl says:

This is an important point that seems to be getting lost in all the commentary/outrage.

      • SarahCS says:

At the moment we’re in a weird place where the media are busy with the (translated from Spanish) copies and picking and choosing details to suit their agenda, Once the book is actually out and everyone can read the full thing we will hopefully get to a place where we can look across the whole picture he’s painted, here and in the interviews.

  11. DragonWise says:

It may very well be favoritism on the Queen’s part, but it could also be the downside of being the heir: he’s got a narrower range of acceptable behaviors because he will eventually be king and more is at stake.

It’s also that William has been steadily losing his looks, while Harry has become quite the snack over time! I prefer a clean-shaven look in general, but Harry’s beard just adds so much to his rugged handsomeness, and William knows that. It’s gotta be hard to see old pics of himself from when he favored his mom. Those Windsor genes hit Willy hard in his twenties, and as Harry said, it was definitely “alarming!” 😂

    • Jen says:

It could be that as the heir, he’s held to a stricter standard, but I think there could be an even simpler reason: in 2011 when William married, he was still in the RAF. Harry had resigned his commission for several years before getting married, so wearing a beard in uniform was different.

  12. ThatsNotOkay says:

Asking someone else if you can wear your hair a certain way, when you’re not in the military is…

And someone else putting up a fight about the favorable decision is…

Everybody is always up in everyone else’s business. The family is dysfunctional as are the institution and the society that support it.

    • SussexWatcher says:

The only reason I can see where this makes a tiny bit of sense is because military personnel (including veterans?) are not supposed to wear a beard in uniform and the queen is “commander” (or whatever) of the military, right? So maybe that’s why? Since it was such a formal occasion…?

Although now that I type all that I recall the pictures of Phillip in uniform with a beard so maybe I’m completely wrong. And I don’t know why I’m trying to make any excuses for this absurd, dysfunctional, racist, abusive family, lol.

      • notasugarhere says:

None of them pitches a fit when Prince Michael of Kent shows up in his pretend military uniforms for events though. Veterans in the UK are allowed to wear their uniform, and with a beard, for certain events *with permission*. Harry had permission from the ultimate source and Billy was pissed about it.

    • Anna says:

This is what I wanted to say… nobody in this family has a clue about boundaries and has an urge to demonstrate control whenever they can. This is not simple „work dress code”.

  13. Jais says:

This story is hilarious. What a petty little man William is. My god.

  14. SussexWatcher says:

The thing that this snippet from the Independent misses is that Harry said that William harassed him by phone and in person for a WEEK about this. A week!

IMO, William’s behavior goes way beyond simple jealousy or being spoiled. This man is seriously unwell. Whether it’s a personality disorder or a traumatic brain injury (from the childhood hit to the head), the picture being painted of this cruel, abusive man is really disturbing. I am so incredibly glad that Harry and Meghan said no to this cult and got their family out of there. Can you imagine the horror their lives would be if they had to be dependent on a king William?!

I’m still trying to get over the other tidbits about a literal prince not being able to buy FOOD or furnishings. And the Camzilla stories! What would their treatment been like under Williams reign? This family is absolutely psychopathic.

    • Deering24 says:

I don’t get why anyone who rabidly supports this system would want to be dependent on William. The guy is nuts, and will never be satisfied no matter how many people throw themselves on the pyre for him.

  15. Brassy Rebel says:

I honestly didn’t remember William ever having a beard. I had to Google it. Then I saw the one photo. Imagine that rage machine going on and on about this for a full week!

  16. Emmlo says:

I think what Harry is doing with these stories is very smart. He’s removing one of the Institution’s last protections from public criticism, the “mystique” of royalty. The Windsors have always been very pointed that they are above celebrities due to their exalted rank. But with every petty anecdote, Harry is letting us know explicitly that they are not better or different than any other dysfunctional family. They are just born rich and have the power to plant stories with the press to protect themselves. And then the obvious question becomes – if they’re not really any different from the common celebrity, what does Britain need them for? Public service doesn’t have to come from a palace. Diana was going to spend the rest of her life showing us that, and now Harry and Meghan are taking up that mantle. Good for them.

They’re going to try to paint him as too emotional and “unstable” so he’s going to be calm and cool while he talks about their rages and panics and tears. They’re just people. They have prejudices and hang ups and mental health struggles like you and me.

    • SussexWatcher says:

Agree completely, Emmlo. He’s also telling all of his embarrassing stories so the tabloids can no longer hold anything over his head. If all of his ‘dirty laundry’ is already out there, they lose all power over him. Smart.

      • SarahLee says:

In a strange way, he’s also giving them an “out” to the invisible contract, should they want to take it. He’s putting a bunch of stuff out there, and if they chose to do so (which they will not), they could just stop with all this briefing and tabloids and nonsense. Let the press say/do what they will because the first shots are what people remember.

      • Gabby - Take. Your. Finger. Out. Of. My. Face. says:

He is giving them an out isn’t he? They will never be perceptive enough to see that.

      • Petra (Brazen Archetyped Phenomenal Woman) says:

A smart family would have jump at the chance to tell the BM enough is enough when “chipwreck” contacted the Taliban for comment. Prince Harry is really a good person, he’s pointing a shining light for them to escape with but they too dumb to use it.

      • Jennifer says:

And now I finally understand the revealing of the todger!

  17. sparrow says:

All families can be petty and have squabbles that seem weird to the outside world. We all have some kind of splintered, perhaps just tense, relationships with our relatives, close or otherwise. But, dear heavens, this family is ultra odd. They’ve been bubbled their whole lives, and for centuries, and what seems normal to them is totally strange to the majority. Someone upthread says there’s an element of jealousy as to how much better Harry looks with a beard. I can see that.

  18. EasternViolet says:

The permission part from the Queen would probably be due to the military dress regulations. In Canada, which shares a lot in common culturally with the British Army, beards were not permitted except for some very exclusive units (Pioneers). However, the strictness of the dress regs have recently changed. Beards are allowed, long beards are allowed, there are no longer any hair cut or colour standards or facial tattoo prohibitions.

Basically many military men now all look like they have rolled out of bed hung over. I’ve never seen a sloppier bunch.

These changes have been adopted to allow people with indigenous facial tattoos, those with religious facial hair, as well as not forcing people with afros to shave their heads, because the white European hair standards could not be met. It was also implemented due to
    cultural and generational recruiting problems.

If William was pissed at the Queen granting Harry a military dress code exemption, he should be pissed at the party giving the exemption, not the person asking for it.

  19. Aida says:

William is spoiled rotten. This is what happens when someone is made to feel superior and told how wonderful he is and how he is going to be King. He has no self awareness. Lording it over people is all he knows.

    • MoBiMo says:

I have to say, the problem seems much deeper than simply having been spoilt. This kind of controlling and abusive behavior (especially the control = love equation) is dangerous, and this man has children and a wife. He also apparently lives in a family and a culture where many continue to believe that silence about family secrets, no matter how destructive, is still the right and honorable thing to do.

  20. IForget says:

Something else to consider in this sort of ‘protocol’ nonsense, is what it means for diverse intersections of people. We know that obviously there isn’t a whole heck of a lot of that happening at the Palaces, but if one isn’t allowed to wear a beard, it’s not hard to imagine that if a WOC had their natural hair on display, it would not be allowed, or a Sikh man wearing a turban, and the list goes on.

They may not think that controlling something like facial hair could be racist, but it implicitely is.

Hair is such a personal expression, I am sad when anyone is not allowed to express themselves in this way.

  21. lanne says:

Okay, so William has some serious boundary issues. He thinks he can interfere in his brother’s a) facial hair b) choice of godparents c) choice of wife d) career e) charities.

I’ll bet Meghan saw all this and said “Harry, this is not okay. He’s your brother, not your liege lord. You are not his servant, or his employee. You’re his brother before anything else. This interference is not normal.” No wonder William hates her. She has, in his mind, “interfered” in his ownership of Harry. She “took Harry away from him”

My god, if William acts like this with Harry, how the hell does he act with his own family? Does he get mad if one of his kids plays with a toy that he doesn’t like? Watches a TV program he doesn’t want to watch? Wears a color, or an outfit, he doesn’t like? (I’m leaving Kate out of this, because she’s made her bed, and she’s chosen to accept whatever nonsense she accepts. But the kids don’t have a choice). What happens when the kids start attempting to rebel, as all kids do as they try to create their own identities? If Harry wasn’t a person to William, surely his children are mere extensions of himself. I wouldn’t wish him as a parent on anyone. Those poor kids.

    • lanne says:

I just read an article on reddit where a married woman said she got into a big fight with her husband over mustard. He apparently got angry that she hated all types of mustard, a condiment that he loved. One day, he got her a hotdog at a gas station and slathered it in mustard and demanded she eat it. She refuses. Normally, he calls her too picky and childish for not eating mustard, but he starts screaming at her, driving erratically, making threats.

At the end of the day, it wasn’t about the mustard. The truth was that she was in an abusive relationship, and she ended up leaving. The mustard was just the catalyst for her to recognize abuse.

I immediately started thinking about William after that story. What are the odds that a man who is used to having his own way, has grown up knowing he will be the sovereign of his country, and that every institution will fuction in his name, who likely never hears the word no, wouldn’t expect everyone in his life to kowtow to him in all ways? People said about Victoria that all her relatives were subject to her tyrannical tedium. She was a small woman, not a 6ft 4 man with rage issues. What would it be like to share a dinner table with someone like that? And that the system is built to enable behaviour just like the mustard example above?

      • Jennifer says:

He literally does get to rule and dictate almost everything around him. What do you do about that? It’s not a normal life system there.

    • Lizzie says:

It’s the fault of both the queen and Charles. William should not have been included in any discussions at any time about Harry. The queen was the monarch and Charles is Harry’s father. William should have been told to butt out until the crown passes to him.
The queen made decisions affecting her sister only after inheriting the crown, so the situations are not the same.

  22. Amy Bee says:

William’s a terrible person. Harry may still love his brother but he has to happy to be away from that control freak.

  23. AnneL says:

The beard does suit Harry somehow. He’s nice-looking without it, but he has small features and is boyish so it makes him more rugged, as others have said.

For the most part, I find beards scruffy and would prefer a clean-shaven look for a wedding.

That said…..it’s just a freaking beard, William!! Get over it! It’s his wedding and Granny gave him the thumbs up. You have three freaking houses while Harry is stuck in Not Cot bumping his ginger head on the door frames. Quit griping.

  24. RoyalBlue says:

So much of their dynamic is really the heir being the boss of the spare. I understand why Harry named his book Spare.

    • QuiteContrary says:

Though he could have called his book “The Hair of the Spare” …

… as William seems so preoccupied by it.

    • HeyKay says:

OK, sibling rivalry + huge wealth = dysfunction.
This really isn’t that unique IRL lots of families have “The Golden Child”
Add in that the entire Monarchy is built around changing NOTHING, Will has been raised, controlled, reinforced constantly that being the future King is his God given destiny.
Does it really surprise anyone he has anger issues?

I find it interesting that Princess Anne handled things as well as she did.
And how must she feel that TQ finally changed the rule of succession for future heirs, from First Born Male to First Born, then the entire world hailed that as progress.

I can understand why she declined titles for her kids. Still grandchildren of TQ, with less hassle.

  25. Solidgold says:

Willy is such a small, petulant boy who resorts to stamping his feet, rage and then escalates to violence to get his way. There is no one around to keep him in check. I use to think that person was Harry, but I was so wrong.

    • HeyKay says:

Say KCIII only rules for a few years, he is in his 70’s after all.
Charles hasn’t really got a plan except to “slimline” the senior royals, does he?
And sources claim he spent years on a plan, after all he waited his entire life to be KC.

I’m trying to picture William as King at say, 50 y/o.
Who is assigned to get William ready?

Do we truly think Harry & William will never reconcile? Say in 5-10 years? Will they come together if Charles is suddenly ill?
What do we think The Firms next move will be, after the coronation?

Willy looked awful in a beard, but it’s ludicrous that his grandmother was able to order him to shave it off. Let the man have his ugly beard. It’s his body. What a “family.”

  27. Mel says:

This family sounds so exhausting. Every day a fight about absolutely nothing, every day a tantrum about absolutely nothing. Every day one brother who feels he has no control over his life trying to control the brother who has some control over his life. Frankly, I’m surprised that Megan didn’t run as soon as she saw all the crazy going on. She must REALLY love Harry.

  28. girl_ninja says:

I read this yesterday and I just shook my head at what an unwell man Bill is. He HAS to get help and ASAP. He has children that he has influence over. This is horrific.

  29. bisynaptic says:

    These people are bonkers.

  30. HeyKay says:

Beards, fighting and arguing about who is allowed to have a beard….Weeping days, how I wish my life was so filled with ease and luxury I had time to piss and moan about beards.

Did they truly need to ask the Queen if they could wear a beard with their Army uniforms?
    #1. I don’t remember W ever having a beard.
#2. If the rule is no facial hair for servicemen in uniform, then why did Harry ask TQ to make an exception for him?
#3. Harry is really giving out every slight, every detail he has ever felt in his life.
#4. This makes me feel like I’m watching him move into a very bad place, IRL, therapists encourage most folks to work on moving past into the future. All the endless book tour interviews feel like it is making him relive so much. I’m uncomfortable at this point.
#5. I know this site is pro H&M, and I’m fine about it. Just giving my .02 cents.
#6. I think we all know The Firm will find a way to keep all the ugliness going, if not The Firm the papers and SM will.

    • tamsin says:

Windsors seem to be a very petty family. In order to give everyone an idea of what it was like to grow up with them, to be with them, Harry had to give an account of how they behave. Harry describes all these “slights” because it appears he has been “slighted” his entire life. Harry has been the victim of very petty, jealous, vindictive, and immature family members.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

HeyKay, I think one of the reasons Harry is going into so much detail is that it leaves NOTHING for the bm. He has already told it, in context and it’s the truth. That doesn’t leave anything for the bm to grasp onto. He has spent how long now trying to talk with C&W, and it has gotten him nowhere, except for more leaking and planting of stories by the two of them, Consort and Wails. His story was always going to have to go into detail if he was to explain his journey to get to where he is as a man today.

I believed Harry when he said that in order to move to the next chapter of their lives they needed to finish this one. This book does that. They will now move forward. Whether his family will be a part of their lives will be up to them. He’s told the world he wants reconciliation, but he expects accountability in order to do so.

I saw the interview this morning on Good Morning America. One of the questions had to do with not being part of the royal family (or giving up titles, I can’t remember the question) and Harry answer that it’s not possible. I understood him to mean that it didn’t matter what he was called, he was still part of the brf and nothing would ever change that. I think we all agree with that statement. We’ve said often enough that if they gave up the titles that the bm would just come up with something else. Prince Harry will always be Prince Harry and that’s a reality that no one can change.

  31. Catherine says:

William and Kate come across as massive a****les in all of this. Harry is a better person than I would be in speaking about them.

  32. Lionel says:

Reading between the lines … I have long suspected that the Queen was showing signs of dementia for years before she died. She may have still been sharp(ish) when William was married, but she was mentally failing by the time of Harry’s wedding.

I have NO doubt that William was jealous of Harry, that the beard issue (SO trivial and petty) was about so much more, and that Harry was just done with William by the time of this argument.

But there’s no other explanation for how William could possibly accuse Harry of putting the Queen, who historically sure didn’t have trouble saying “no” to innocent requests, “in an uncomfortable position” over a few ruddy facial hairs. The Queen suffered from dementia in her final years. And that puts so much of what’s gone on since then into clearer perspective.

  33. chris says:

Just saw pic of pw with beard. Haahaahhhhaaaahhhaaaaahhhhhhaaaaahhhhaaaaaaa! Looks like a middle-aged man playing dress up, poorly/or like a buffoon doing a bad SNL skit. What an absolute net LOSS as a “human”. How upsetting that he exists at all.

  34. Dara says:

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but hadn’t Harry left the military before he got married? My memory of their wedding is a little iffy, it was 3am here, but I thought a commentator said he wore the uniform of the unit he had served with, and not one of his ceremonial ones, which in itself required special permission. So, two exceptions then? One for the uniform and one for facial hair?

And thanks so much for making me google William with a beard, that’s not an image I needed in my brain, and now it’s stuck there forever.

  35. RoyalBlue says:

Walmart’s jealousy is off the charts. As this is his gig, someone who “advocates” for mental health, he should seek some help for that.

  36. Kay says:

I can’t help but think that Harry with a beard probably reminded QEII if Philip. So of course she would say yes to her favorite grandson. And yeah, Willy is such a wanker!

  37. ABB says:

I just came to say how thankful I am that there is a corner of the internet that’s pro Harry in all this — even mainstream US publications (looking at you The Cut) and humor accounts (Reductress c’mon now) have been really patronizing. Harry is not “unhinged;” he knows EXACTLY what he is doing.

  38. Kingston says:

    @HeyKay says:

Did they truly need to ask the Queen if they could wear a beard with their Army uniforms?
    APPARENTLY THEY DID.

    #1. I don’t remember W ever having a beard.
    GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND

#2. If the rule is no facial hair for servicemen in uniform, then why did Harry ask TQ to make an exception for him?
H DID NOT ASK BETTY FOR AN EXCEPTION. IN FACT THE OPPOSITE: HE WAS N.O.T. A “SERVICEMAN IN UNIFORM” AT THE TIME OF HIS MARRIAGE.

#3. Harry is really giving out every slight, every detail he has ever felt in his life.
    THIS IS INCORRECT.

#4. This makes me feel like I’m watching him move into a very bad place, IRL, therapists encourage most folks to work on moving past into the future. All the endless book tour interviews feel like it is making him relive so much. I’m uncomfortable at this point.
YOUR FEELINGS ARE IMMATERIAL TO THE FACTS. YOU ARE CLEARLY NOT AWARE OF THE FACTS OF HARRY’S LIFE AND HIS THERAPY JOURNEY.

#5. I know this site is pro H&M, and I’m fine about it. Just giving my .02 cents.
IT IS TRUE THAT PEOPLE WITH INTELLIGENCE TEND TO GRAVITATE TO THIS SITE FOR THEIR GUILTY (GOSSIP) PLEASURE. HOWEVER, THEY MOSTLY BASE THEIR OPINIONS ON FACTS. A .02-CENTS OPINION IS OF NO VALUE TO PEOPLE WITH INTELLIGENCE.

#6. I think we all know The Firm will find a way to keep all the ugliness going, if not The Firm the papers and SM will.
    WHEW! A GLIMMER OF INTELLIGENCE!

  39. Well Wisher says:

It must be soul destroying being around someone that will make silly, imperial demands about keeping a beard for one’s wedding.
He quaked after receiving two homes just after his wedding, while his brother gets to keep his beard and start his marriage in a two bedroom cottage.
William cannot allow for a moment of grace and let his brother be happy, since he was not allowed to sport a beard on his wedding, Harry should not.
    Such entitlement is breath taking.

  40. Well Wisher says:

    Such a loving command.

  41. PrincessK says:

There is so much hypocrisy. Media are calling him a traitor for saying he killed the Taliban, whereas in 2013 they were putting on the front pages of all their newspapers that he had killed Taliban.
