It was funny to watch last week, as the Windsors decided to all come out and do various public events. Almost all of the public events were highly stage-managed, especially those for Prince William and Kate. Queen Camilla’s first event of the year was a solo appearance at a university, and then on Friday, Camilla joined King Charles in Manchester for a day of events. They arrived separately, which seemed really weird to me. Charles took the Royal Train and did some appearances before Camilla got to town. Still, these were their first joint public events of the year, and their first since Prince Harry’s Spare came out.
Meanwhile, the coronation’s planning is still underway and there are still a million little choices King Charles has to make before his big day. Decisions about… breeches. Apparently, it’s tradition for the new king to wear some kind of fancy knickerbockers or something and Charles says no, he won’t be doing that.
He’s breaching tradition to ditch his breeches. King Charles III’s coronation outfit is going to “break away from tradition” and steer clear of the “dated” look of the past, according to reports.
The monarch will be formally crowned on May 6 following his ascension to the throne in September after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II — Britain’s longest-reigning sovereign. And while the royals have always stuck true to their centuries-old traditions, it seems as though the King is looking to switch things up to keep up with the times.
In previous coronations, the monarch traditionally wore silk stockings and breeches — often worn for horse riding. But a source told The Sun that Charles will don his military uniform on the big day in a bid to represent the “modern 21st-century monarchy.”
“Senior aides think breeches look too dated,” an insider told the outlet, suggesting that the monarch is being advised against tradition.
[From Page Six]
I’m not sure King Charles wearing all of his military regalia will be preferable imagery to breeches and silk stockings. I mean, Charles has given himself every military ribbon, medal, sash and pin in the British military. Seeing a 74-year-old man who never served in combat wear all of that at his coronation will actually provide a very “military junta by way of a tin-pot monarch” vibe. It will also highlight the fact that his veteran son (who served two tours in Afghanistan) will not be there. These people bathe in hypocrisy.

It will still be dated. Charles parading around in those medals is embarrassing.
+1. Here in the US that kind of military cosplay is called stolen valor.
Charles served in the military (Air Force and Navy) and he is the Commander in Chief of England’s military forces (at least in name, if not in actual decision making) so it is not stolen valor.
It is, however, horrifying that he wants to wear a military uniform to a religious ceremony declaring him the head of the Church of England. Jesus would flip every piece of furniture in the building over a symbol of war being used in a ceremony which is supposed to honor the Christian faith.
The hypocrisy of the monarchy continues…
One of the first things Henry VIII did on declaring himself the head of his new Church that he created in order to steal tons of property, give himself more power, and divorce his wife was murder thousands of his subjects who refused to change their religion. The head of the Church of England has always been a murderer — Charles’ body count is way lower than most.
(This is not some pro-pope thing. There are plenty of murderers and people who did other vile things in their ranks too.)
Good point. Can the Church anoint Charles as King wearing a military uniform.
Good Lord, the first photo from the bottom up 😬 🤮. That inebriated sickly shrimp face. I can’t. And his fingers on the verge of exploding in his own face.
@Nicki. Agreed. That’s usurpation of military title.
I recall Charles going to a tribute to D Day veterans who won their medals on the front lines. I found it inappropriate then when Charles was loaded with medals. He should have toned it down considering the D Day veterans who risked their lives were the ones honored that day.
@ Tessa, it is extremely bad taste that he chose to play as a military veteran on D-Day when so many of those lost their lives serving their country. It’s a flat out insult to those that actually served.
I would imagine that playing dress up is still their schtick.
Exactly, the scrambled egg he wears gets my goat, there is no need for it and proves that it’s all show and no substance, just like Edward, he couldn’t even make it through basic training yet parades around in uniform wearing unearned medals. The thing that REALLY sticks in my throat is that the UK is in the middle of a cost of living crisis but these muppets have decided to make it a 3 day Bank Holiday, just how much damage is that going to cause industry, and just how little do they care
The fact that in 2023 “ascending the throne” is being said without irony or distain is BONKERS
Agreed @sparkle! Royalty and its supposed special connection to the church is a social construct, and all of this nitpickery about what breeches to wear is just bizarre and medieval! My mind boggles that a good chunk of society still takes this stuff so seriously!
I’ll watch the news coverage but not the event. Don’t want him thinking my view counts as support. ** Oh, Hark! A new King! This white King supports his brother who is famously violent towards children, and shuns the love of his son’s life! This is the widow of Princess Di. The cheater. The briefcase-of-cash exchanger. The father of William, I mean come on. God love the clueless, out of touch, born-on-first-base King! ** yayyyy
Great selection of photos like the one of Charles guffawing and pointing.
Kaiser is the master of commenting without words via photo selections.
He does rather look like he just tossed some coins from his gold-plated carriage and is laughing haughtily as the peasants scramble for them.
That’s his “let them eat cake” guffaw. And I think a bedazzled crown along with his tin soldier medals on a military uniform is too much overkill. I think a morning suit or regular suit is more appropriate.
@Miranda, omg that’s exactly what it looks like!
@Miranda Coins that have been heated red-hot in his golden portable carriage grill. I’m sure he uses an oversized set of tongs to fling the scalding-hot coins from the fire to out the window into the crowd. So very droll, Your Majestic Royal Highness.
(I wish I had a vomit emoji on this device.)
Chuck is morphing into Robert Carlyle’s Rumpelstiltlskin, from Once Upon a Time, before our eyes.
My belief is that Charles wants to wear stockings.
The Palace PR machine is just throwing this out to test the waters. Just like they did over a scaled down Coronation, when people came back and said they wanted pomp.
I was always told it was rude to point but Charles, Philip and Andrew love doing it.
I don’t know if military uniform is going to give the modern vibe he is going for.
If you want people to be impressed with pomp and pageantry at least go all out. Silk breeches and all. But that is just my opinion
A modern vibe would be to forego the ceremony altogether. Throwing yourself a huge taxpayer funded bash during an economic crisis is so tone deaf.
@Tacky – or if he really wants the whole whistle and bells coronation he could pay for it himself out of the billions he saved in inheritance taxes. He says he wants street parties maybe, he could dip his hands into his pockets and finance parties in deprived areas up and down the country. At the very least he should be paying for his brand new gold leafed coach!
@Tacky and Laura I totally agree with the both of you. Also on another note, I read the daily fail and there is a growing out cry against the cost of the coronation of the tampon king and his whore consort while the vast of Britons can’t afford to pay their heating bills. This may be a devastating turning point for the monarchy .
Imagine if he put the whole coronation budget toward paying some of the winter heating bills for the whole country, a kind of forward-thinking “UK we got you!” service-oriented new monarchy for the 21st century. He’s so out of touch. 😡
This! And on top of it all, he wants people to do community service as part of the weekend too. It’s not like that’s usually a bad thing to encourage, but adding it to the itinerary in the context of all the economic struggles of regular people at this time is just ugh. Maybe *they* should ACTUALLY serve a community for once.
At the end of the day it is a drop in the ocean compared to the tourism money it will bring.
I don’t want to sound like I think a military uniform is a great choice because I don’t. HOWEVER I certainly don’t want to see Charles’ skinny legs in stockings
@A, I laughed out loud. The comments here today are killing me
If Kate can pad her bony arse for a Mouret dress, Chuck can do it for stockings.
A agreed! That was my first thought as well. No silk stocking on Chuck the Turd’s legs PLEASE! But the military cosplay is gross as well
Why can’t he go for a formal tailcoat, or the livery of one of his chivalric orders? The uniform is not the right thing to wear, and as others have said it’s kind of farcical even if he is Commander in Chief.
You don’t see US Presidents who have not served in actual action wearing uniforms to the swearing in.
Heck even President Eisenhower, who, if any President in this country could legit wear a uniform never put it on as President and always wore suits.
I think it’s a terrible call, and he should be minimising costs, paying what he can out of his own money and cutting down the pomp and quit with the bread and circuses business when his people are in such poor straits.
I know businesses in the UK are by law somewhat better to their employees than in the US but are they required to pay their people for a 3 day bank holliday? And can someone explain to me how asking people who need help to do charitable work, when they themselves NEED charity…the man is bonkers.
@Tana: pretty sure that ‘three-day bank holiday’ means a holiday Monday following the weekend; so it’s one paid day off (assuming it’s paid).
That’s what I was thinking. I don’t think “military” when I think of the royal family. I think puffy drawers and powdered wigs. If they’re not going to do the puffy drawers and powdered wigs then a dark suit under his ermine cape would look better than a military uniform with fake medals.
Chloe I think you’re right. Do it as a historic play of sorts.
@Chloe Yes, it’s all about the pageantry as far as a tourism draw is concerned, and isn’t that basically the only reason GB keeps up the whole charade?
Well, of course, I’m forgetting the appalling gutter rag tabloid industry.
“I don’t want to look all dated by dressing like it’s 1770. Oh no, I’m going for that much more *modern* Disney Prince from 1860 in long pants uniform look! So modern, so relatable.”
hahahahaha
LMFAO. Plus a crown (and a scepter?). Super modern
Amy Too haha yes!!! This is exactly it!
So glad “the King is looking to switch things up to keep up with the times” by refurbing the historic St Edward’s Crown that has been used since the coronation of King Charles II in 1661.
KC-II chartered the Royal African Company (RAC) that operated from 1660 to 1752. RAC held a monopoly on British slave trade in West Africa with forts and trading posts on the coast secured by the army and navy. Half of slave trade earnings went to the King. Slavery profits, so modern.
No breaking of “protocol”, KC. Every tabloid needs to be reacting with horror. This is the equivalent of wearing colored nail polish or leaving off the stockings.
Yeah, it seems like “breaking protocol” or “stepping away from tradition” because something is dated, isn’t a problem if it comes to Charles. BM won’t see the hypocrisy and praise him as a modern monarch.
Exactly! This is updated and modern, but anything M&H do is an unforgivable breach of protocol. Sure, Jan.
If they truly wanted to “modernize” the monarchy, they’d do away with this coronation nonsense. Celebrating one’s self in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis is the most antiquated bullish!T ever, silk stockings or not. 4 more months of a constant drip-feed of Fakata Coronation ™️ news, argh!!!
Just checked out pictures of Philip from Elizabeth’s coronation. Looks like he wore some sort of zhuzhed up uniform. They need to get someone from the BBC, theater, or movie costume department to come up with a uniform that will work with the coronation robes. But he’s probably to stubborn.
I know his brother and son served in combat, but we have to get over this idea that serving in peacetime is somehow lesser. It’s ghoulish, and makes war glamorous and desirable. Cut it out.
I don’t think it’s lesser to serve in peacetime. But I do think a military uniform with a ton of ceremonial medals pinned to it is inappropriate funeral and coronation for this family. The British Royals are titular heads of state, not military leaders nor even really in charge of the government. It sends the wrong message about their role and what they are meant to represent.
I do feel like it was a bit different for Philip, because Elizabeth was crowned so soon after a major world war that was an existential threat to the country, one in which many civilians as well as soldiers died. And Philip did serve in that war.
The thing is that it’s not titular – the monarch is actually commander-in-chief of the military.
It’s not that serving in peacetime is lesser. It’s that Charles doesn’t wear the uniform he earned during that time. He dresses in a rank and medals that he did nothing to earn besides being born first to the queen.
Now is he the commander in chief? Yes. But in many other countries the CiC doesn’t dress in unearned uniforms with unearned medals.
That may not bother some people. But it’s okay if it does bother others who see it as yet more propaganda.
Yeah, wear the uniform and the medals that you earned for real or f*ck off. No added honorary bs.
Philip actually served as a naval officer.
Everything @Becks said (can you imagine the reaction if Barack Obama had worn a military uniform?), but it’s also the fact that on top of everything Becks pointed out, Charles has also recently been prohibiting his son from wearing a uniform with medals he actually *earned.* Because his son had the audacity to marry a biracial woman and do some interviews that Charles disliked. It’s the constant rank hypocrisy that bothers a lot of us.
The last time Charles wore all of his medals, he looked like he was about to topple over from the weight of them, and now he’s adding a heavy crown, so 🤞 for a humiliating moment for him at his big party.
I loathe Charles, but am old enough to remember his naval years. He commanded a minesweeper and grew a beard.
My guess: red uniform under red coronation cloak won’t work. Khaki is insufficiently celebrational. Green uniform would be a big contrast to the red cloak. I guess he will wear that blue-black uniform under the red ermine-trimmed coronation cloak.
The black makes the gold stand out. Charles will LOVE that.
2nd pic: Charles was “crowned” Prince of Wales and he looks like a kid in costume. What worries me is that he clings to that sword for real which is supposed to signal his military power. That boy is taking things too seriously or he doesn’t have a solid grip on actual political changes which occurred in the last 200 years. Anybody deciding to pose with a sword in the late 20th century can’t be quite sane.
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/sep/08/prince-charles-king-coronation-may-be-months-away
@Freddy: I looked at the pic of him with the sword and he looks ridiculous. I also noticed that his fingers are grossly swollen on his left hand, and the index finger on his right hand is also swollen. Is it gout or something?
Oh no! He’s going to dress up like Idi Amin again. But I don’t think I will ever get the image of Charles in silk stockings and knee breeches out of my head. 🫣
Ok but they usually wear breeches to the diplomatic reception in Dec if you want to know what you’re missing 😉
I would actually love to see this for the entertainment value
https://www.bolnews.com/entertainment/2023/01/king-charles-decides-to-dress-traditional-silk-stockings-and-breeches-for-coronation/
@Nick G, I’m losing it, thank you so much for posting that. Now I *absolutely* hope he changes his mind and wears that getup
@ Nick G, many thanks for that article as we see Chucky 3.0 “ditching” tradition all while keeping The Monarchy still in the realm of the 18th century and not the 21St century. Gotta love that you can count on Chucky 3.0 keeping it “real”.
I don’t know what the fuss is about. They wear stockings at state occasions, black ones. On this occasion he will wear white ones.
Am I mean a bad person for thinking, every time I see charlie, I think mean spirited eunuch. Hanging out with his pet vulture?. Sorry I can’t see him as masculine. Willy favors him not at all, and harry reminds me more of phillip.
I’m thinking William would rather look more like Charles than Mr. Burns.
The coronation itself is outdated, so everything that goes along with that just adds to it. Not sure if we are going to have a longer post about the whole
Weekend, but it does seem as if Charles is misreading the entire country right now. I feel like even royalists aren’t huge fans of him.
But is he really misreading the mood? Not many people seen to be upset by all this. They are still talking about Harry and searching for Meghan.
There’s also people being detained for holding up signs saying “abolish the monarchy..” and people are silent.
Let’s face it with this much apathy the monarchy will be around for a long time and they’ll continue to get away with all the secrets and lies.
The gov, media, and royals are all in on this scam and anyone that tries to disrupt the toxic cycle becomes enemy #1 as we see with H&M.
Agree. As long as the Tory government, British Media and Royal Family can use H&M as distractions from the real issues and problems nothing will change. The three are united in their efforts to maintain control and power and people seem gullible to stories about H&M and apathetic to what’s actually happening to them.
The one thing the British establishment is very good at is propaganda, and well done propaganda works. Breaking through to a thoroughly brainwashed public will not be easy for anti-monarchists.
@Cary I do think he is. Propaganda is powerful and he does have the media on his side, but that only goes so far when people can’t afford food.
Comments on the royal social media last night were about half negative for the coronation plans, which is very telling IMO.
Lack of popularity doesn’t mean the monarchy is going to end the day after the coronation, I’m not saying that. But I don’t think this is going to be the same feel as even the jubilee.
It might be apathy and it might be a scam, but it’s also history and culture and has been for 1,000 years. For good or bad, it’s part of what defines the UK. To me, the whole thing seems irrelevant, but I didn’t grow up with this history. I think it will take something extraordinary for the people to decide they don’t want a monarchy anymore and, sadly, I don’t think what’s happening with H&M is extraordinary.
One of those gray men should slip him a box of crest strips
One for William as well, please
Louis should call on his grandfather to make an end to the Victorian cosplay altogether…that child’s knees looked damn cold last we saw him.
Chuck the Turd, the pompous relic, should ‘keep up with the times’ by abdicating.
What an embarrassing fool.
Abolish the monarchy.
Gilbert and Sullivan comic operettas have come alive. “A modern major general” indeed.
The european raoyalty has done away with coronation. Why can’t the Brits follow suit.
“Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people.” (Laura Greenwood, Fangs For Nothing). Very true.
Oh my god I LOVE this quote!
He’d look like an idiot in breeches and silk stockings, and a business suit would look stupid with a crown. I imagine he’ll wear the uniform he wore at the opening of Parliament. In the photos where he’s ogling the crown, the uniform looks like a better match.
Anything looks stupid with a crown because real crowns look stupid in 2023 (paper crowns for parties are fun though).
Just go naked, Charlie. Your rota friends will write that you wore flowing robes and shiny shoes anyway, and the gullible public will believe it.
😂 I see what you did there. Very good. Very apt.
So true.
Perfect, Harper. Slow clap
Lol! 😆 Good one ☝️
A crown on a military uniform just doesn’t convey the right message, IMO. I wonder if they are going to use the ermine-trimmed robes.
“Idi Amin Goes to a Parade.” Well, this seems like money well spent. On the other hand, yet another opportunity to contrast this family’s stolen valor with Harry’s actual military service, which they keep trying desperately to erase from people’s memories and end up making the contrast even more obvious.
Charles has “actual military service” as well. As someone said above, it is getting disrespectful to imply that unless you were in a war zone your military service is somehow lesser or to be mocked. There are a hundred other reasons why this coronation bit is a bad idea.
KFC is loaded down with ribbons and medals and ranks which he did not earn in the military. That he does this and takes on such high ranks (commander in chief excepted) is stolen valor in the US. It’s not our tradition, and I don’t care what he wears. Don’t say that wearing this costume is modern. That’s a bridge too far.
If anyone actually thinks Charles and William went through basic training and served in the same way as the average joe does, I’ve got a bridge to sell them. Harry is a combat veteran and he has been repeatedly disrespected by his family members who served only in name, who were coddled and favored and protected for the entirety of their “service”. Will and Harry were in the military at the same time – funny how only one was in active combat. There have been reports that Will was never even sent out on any air ambulance missions because they couldn’t “risk the heir” when they had other pilots available.
Charles and Will earned their military titles in the same way someone whose entire lineage has attended an Ivy League school and has a campus building or three carrying the family name has earned their place at university despite getting all Cs. It has absolutely nothing to do with serving during peace or war time. Any real veterans who have served, war time or not, should be offended by Charles’ military cosplay.
@Same
As an actual American Air Force non-combat vet, I have a boatload of issues with all BFR’s chests full of unearned medals and such. Yes, they are actual medals. That the BRF gave each other for breathing, & not much more. If a Vet wears a medal they did not earn by virtue of being in a squadron when earned, or commiting a certain act of valor, it is still called stolen valor.
I am old enough to remember Charles in service, so at least he served. But the make believe medals, are still an insult to many, some whom had to shed blood to earn their medals
Not to be argumentative, but Just to give another viewpoint to be considered
@ Doppel back at ya as an actual American Desert Storm Navy veteran — my comment was directed at those who say…and continue to say…that he didn’t “REALLY” serve. I didn’t comment on the uniforms or the medals the BRF wear to various functions — as an American it is a tradition I don’t understand and frankly don’t believe in for 2023.
To your point of ‘stolen valor’– he isn’t wearing medals from a squadron he wasn’t in and representing himself as there in the thick of it — I don’t actually know WTF all those shiny medals are for — and I doubt any one here knows, we are just banging on about how he clearly doesn’t deserve them.
Hell, maybe he did earn a couple, maybe they are from his Mummy but the fact remains….
Chuck has ACTUAL MILITARY SERVICE … which is what I commented on in the first place.
So nonsensical to have this coronation. These folks are just celebrities trying to hang on to relevancy in the 21st century. A much more practical approach would be to allow his subjects to have the 3 day holiday, have vendors there selling food, memorabilia etc. and join in by walking among the crowds while they celebrate. This would be more 21st century. But to put on this grand party and it is a party to celebrate yourself is gauche.
If Charles really wants to be modern he would just wear a suit.
Exactly. Wear a suit, show up to the Abbey in a car (that you didn’t block traffic for) take a few pictures and get on with the business of trying to avoid questions.
I thought the same. I mean, they’re putting a damned crown on your head–who needs phony medals when you’re getting the real hardware?
I’m increasingly convinced “modern” just means “whatever Charles wants.”
Thank you! Yes, a suit would be perfect!
People are not flying in from all corners of the globe to look at Charles wearing a suit!
Euro-Trash. Period.
The EU has about 500 Mio inhabitants and unfortunately historically we have been settled with some toxic garbage.
Most EU citizens don’t approve of the remaining monarchies and aristos.
Whoa! Tories did not fund a years-long racist and xenophobic campaign to separate from the EU only for their prized pigs to be called “Euro”-trash! Take it back!
Enjoyed someone on twitter calling him out for charging the UK tax payer millions for him to clamp a metal hat on his head LOL! Oh well I suppose crowns are good for covering up bald patches and moral failings!!
This entire situation is wearing on my nerves.
The cost of living, food, heat, health care, hell everything is terrible.
These comments are spot on!
Charles and his coronation makes me angry.
Gold coach my ass.
I hope people ignore ” His big day” He’s a male bridezilla with this garbage.
That photo of him, red faced and guffawing really fits him.
Speaking of the gold coach— this is only tangentially related, but I was just reading up about it, and found this headline:
“The Queen’s coach made out of 4 tonnes of gold that’s not even comfortable to travel in
The Queen revealed that the journey to her Coronation was ‘horrible’”
The icing on the cake will be if, after all of this, Charles bitches about his four tonnes of gold being “uncomfortable.” That will go over real well.
Bet it was even more uncomfortable for the horses having to pull it.
Chuckles is tone-deaf, not a good quality for a king. Nobody needs kings anymore but he’ll go all out for the big show, costing his taxpaying citizens a fortune. Will they cancel NHS appointments again as they did for Liz’s prolonged funeral celebrations?
And a gold coach is not going to look dated??? I think this pageantry and history is very important to a lot of Brits, and some of them seem to live for it. It’s so much part of their history and psyche. However, anything modern would look ludicrous with a crown, because a crown is dated. Technically, the sovereign is also CIC, so there is nothing wrong with Charles wearing a uniform, and he did do military service. I believe all working royal men have done military service, except Edward. I think only Britain carries on with this divine right of kings business, and crown themselves in the Church and make themselves head of the Church at the same time. In order for Charles to have a simple investiture, which is what should happen in this day and age if you’re going to have a monarchy at all, but he would have to give up his role as Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England (and ironies pile up here, considering Charles and Camilla’s history and how the Church of England came to be in the first place) and also give up the notion that his power comes from God. I think there will still be a monarchy for a long time in Britain. Only its lustre will continue to dim.
For briefly serving in the British Military Charles has a lot of medals attached on his chest. He must have committed an heroic deed every day in his army service to earn such a lot of bling. His ermine coronation cloak might get stuck on those.
Any Royal joining the Military is a security nightmare for the military ;-).
If charles doesn’t wear silk stockings and breeches then what about that diamond encrusted Order of the Garter garter? (Diamond encrusted garter just right below the knee). Is he gonna wear that on his wrist as a bracelet? Or is Camilla going to wear it for him? Diamonds do look so much better on her than on him 😉 The bling provides distraction from the harsh fun lines* ;-D
*me trying to be positive about wrinkles
@Freddy, I’m now actively hoping that some ermine does get stuck in one of his medals, because can you imagine the epic tantrum that would ensue? We’ve seen the way he loses his sh!t (publicly, on camera) over a PEN.
If he had some ermine-related wardrobe malfunction at his coronation, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself.
Charles served from 1971 to 1976 in the navy. Can’t really call that brief service. As far as pageantry and gold coach, knee breeches, the aristocracy and class system is deeply entrenched. Even if Charles wanted to forego a coronation would all the dukes, marquesses and earls be happy? Ceremonies like coronation keep them entrenched in their high places.
I saw a documentary about Charles he was not all that great in the military. On one of his navy ships on his watch the anchor got caught on a cable on the ocean.
Yes, this. The whole structure of the monarchy is dated – all those titles of Supreme This and That, the Orders of Whatnot, the Grand Keeper of Whatsit. If you’re not draped in ermine and jewels to go along with them, it looks even more ridiculous. Charles in a business suit and crown might as well be me wearing a tiara and rubber gloves to clean the bathroom. If the RF is now all about celebrity, then they have to look the part.
He really thinks he’s the Shitz, doesn’t he? With his Crony-Eyed Crow beside him…yukking it up, once again putting on a show.
These over the top coronation plans are grotesque given the economic times the peasants are facing, never mind the complete moral failings of this particular monarch.

Hey Chuck, don’t forget your diamond encrusted codpiece!
I would tune in for the cod piece actually — I remember my first Tower of London tour and the crier was wearing a period costume and his junk cover was banana yellow.
Post Harry Book tour, announce grandiose (+ unnecessary) flamboyant coronation weekend which will be all about ME. Garner a few happy headlines. Announce a holiday. Rah rah. All about me (because I live in my colonial bubble where I am the top dog of all time!) I’m guessing he really wanted to wear the Coronation robes but was talked out if it. The public can only handle so many Disney vibes.
Focus media on whether H&M will come so they come out as being petty and unsympathetic. Win for Dada King C3. Vapid Royalists will eat it up. KC3 will get favourable headlines for 3+ months UNTIL the cost of this extravaganza is leaked to taxpayers. Second focus will be on dresses for Camie & Katie B & children. Tiaras on steroids. ((Again they refuse to read the room in favour of Pomp & Circumstance)
KC3 & grey suits will place some POC in key camera worthy positions during events to prove “I’m not a racist”. Music performers will be interesting to see who wishes to be linked to this.
(Apologies had to vent…)
Will Kate try to dress the children like Charles and anne did at the last coronation. Matching white outfits.
Charles’ hands look way younger than Camillas: vanity fat injections? Watch out for pre-coronation plastic surgery rejuvenation 😉
3rd pic of Charles grinning like a maniac: bunny lines nose?
Charles’ hands are so swollen that it inflates some of the wrinkles. You don’t think he has a spf flunky to apply sunscreen, do you?
Camilla’s wardrobe has had an amaaazing glow up. As Duchess her attire was almost nondescript, dowdy, with a ‘nothing to see here, look elsewhere for the fashion plates’ vibe. Now that she has the job she can finally dress as a fashionable, unbearably rich aristo. I’d LOVE to know the cost of her new wardrobe.
To be honest I don’t see any.difference in Camilla wardrobe. She wears the same style. The only thing is she can deck herself out in more bling at formal events. Her day to day wardrobe is more of the same.
It’s so puzzling… like we’re all in on the joke that this ‘Royal’ jelly family has become. They are like zoo animals & truly this is a humanitarian farce. Where is amnesty international?!
😂
“ These people bathe in hypocrisy.”
Just plant this in every single post about the RF.
It’s so tone-deaf but Charles has literally been waiting his whole life for this. He ain’t scrimping. Bring forth the golden chariot. The only thing I’m looking forward to is the absolutely epic memes that are gonna come out of this. Wasteful and unnecessary, wish it wasn’t even happening, but hey, at least the memes will be gold.
It might be difficult to put as much gold on the memes as Charles will insist on wearing during coronation.
@Jais, that IS a worthy silver lining. It will be a fun few days on Twitter
Mummy had a big coronation, why can’t I? Mummy had one, I want it too!
💯! but Mummy was from the colonizing, still imperialist Britain. Those crowns, ermine robes, horse drawn carriages are from Britain’s immensely cruel imperialist empire. After Brexit, Britain can’t even be a major player of the European Union, they left. The crown, robes, orb, and scepter are all equivalent to blood/conflict gemstones.
Thanks for the reminder that Kenya Emergency (Mau Mau rebellion) and Malayan Emergency happened under Mummy’s stewardship.
Yep Kirk, exactly. Obama’s grandfather was imprisoned and tortured horribly by the Brits after the Mau Mau rebellion. Mummy’s reign included colonizing crimes.
5-minute craft
The C.Milla barbie doll:
1. cut the hair of a blonde barbie doll
2. give the doll’s face some heat till the plastic starts softening
3. use the non-sharpe side of a small kitchen knife to press in the wrinkles
Seriously most people in Charles’ age (74) are no longer eligible for a house credit and many already stopped driving a car. Most people at his age are glad to put up their feet for an hour after lunch/dinner and have a little snooze. Most surgeons stop operating long before that age and most lawyers have stopped doing legal business or just do some simple things. And he thinks he can seriously handle all that royal business and he thinks he can do that adequately.
Britain has a lot of problems and I doubt that Charles even knows about most of them. Rumours about his participation and appreciation of that conspiracy theory called G. Reset don’t bode well either.
He believes in homeopathy and other bunk “alternative medicine” of the lowest order, and it’s not an age thing. He has simply always been stupid.
This won’t be enough for Charles he will perhaps want to have Anniversaries of his coronation celebrated every year.
Won’t Someone think of the Royal Protocols?! Haven’t they suffered enough breakings already?!
@Gobo, stop, the comments here today have been so funny that my side already hurts from laughing 😭
The comments are gold today!
Oh, come on, this is supposed to be about the pomp and pageantry they’re always honking on about. Where’s the pomp and pageantry unless he’s prancing about in his little knickerbockers and a very silly hat? Does imaginary tourism mean nothing to him???
Our problems are all due to social inequality. Just that.
Charles never “served” anyone, anywhere. He did not “serve” in the military. And he did not earn any of those medals any more than he earned the brand new gold coach.
The monarchy isn’t Britain’s culture that should be respected any more than the mafia is Italy’s culture that should be respected. Though the monarchy did a lot more harm.
Camilla’s coat looks like a sewn-up autopsy incision.
According to SPARE, C3 has always considered himself to be a character from Shakespeare. He thinks he is another Henry IV, hence he wants to stress the military connection. But we lost Henry IV at age 53 I think.
He had a HUGE coronation to make up for the fact that he had killed the previous king. Other similarities: feuds with the York family and a wife who looked as horrified as Cams does here. Henry V appears to have donned a nightgown or a clown costume. See images on the internet.

Does Britain have a Costco equivalent for eggs in bulk for this coronation? I’d give anything for the coverage to be interrupted by the BM who can’t cover eggs raining down like arrows 300 style and reporting it’s some weird, weather phenomena… if only
I’ve studied the monarchy as a way to understand power structures since I was a kid (starting with the book Young Bess) and I think the BRF is a great example of people being trapped by their own status. Money and power attract sycophants, and royals, like many rich from birth, have few opportunities to develop self-awareness and know when they’re being advised against their own best interests.
I occasionally mention royal drama to Mr. Lizzie, and he put forward a fascinating idea the other day: What if Charles abdicated on the 1,000th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings? That would be 2066, giving him more than 40 years on the throne. The BRF could negotiate retention of assets and give large amounts of personal wealth to charity to offset taxes and for PR.
Royals could do whatevs, some could live at and caretake properties, possibly even give tours like lesser aristocrats who have opened their estates to the public (I think Charles would love being a tour guide). William would FREAK OUT but finally have time and no real excuse to avoid therapy. Divorces could happen openly, and every royal who wants to go be a rich insufferable snob could blissfully disappear from view 😆
It’s an elegant solution, but the courtiers have a lot riding on the monarchy staying in place. The whole ecosystem is set up to preserve itself, so if this happened, it would have to involve a lot of sensitive high level communication between Charles and a few government officials, and I don’t see that happening. People can never keep their mouths shut in royal courts, and since Harry left, they lost the one person who might have been able to facilitate his father’s abdication (not that Charles wants it).
I’m really impressed by Harry and Meghan’s security protocols for communication and movement. To escape like they did and set up a new life, and evolve their approach so that less and less information got out over time, is no easy feat. They are obviously employing the best and actually taking advice. Groundbreaking 😂😂
Charles would be like 120 if he abdicated on that date.
He already acts like he’s 120.
Does anyone else remember Camilla’s golliw*g keychain? Camilla was spotted with it as she was leaving the Hampton Court Flower Show in 2008.
For those unfamiliar with what that is, it is a minstrel rag doll caricature popularized during the Jim Crow era. The figurine was tacked to Camilla’s Burberry handbag and spotted in the open trunk of her car.
Clarence House brushed it off and said it had been a present and that no offense was intended.
The BRF is grotesque.
What is this about the new gold carriage having TONS of gold?
WTactualF? Actual tons of Gold? I can’t get my head on that info.
My holy bleeding cow!!
I recall Liz saying is was uncomfortable to ride in, I’ve seen it on tv, I do know it was a gold coach…but honest to Dog, I NEVER thought the damn thing was constructed of tons of gold. I’ve never given it that much thought.
I can not find words. No. Hundreds of years of BS with the BRF, 2 world wars, hundreds of thousands of people killed in the wars and this bunch of clowns has an actual carriage made of gold.
Jesus wept.
Could the PM/Govt. declare that for the betterment of the people, they are melting down that damn carriage and giving the money from it to NHS, Disabled Veterans, the eldery, childrens schooling, food banks, on and on and on?
Charles that SOB really deserves a right kick up the royal backside!
Gold carriage made of tons of actual gold. Burn.Down.the.Monarchy.
I’m staying off the Net for the rest of the day. This info has given me a blinding headache.
HeyKay, 128,000 ounces of gold. Gold prices today are at $1935. That means the gold alone is worth about $250,000,000. I assume the carriage would go for more than that.
They should sell it and make sure it goes to the people to help them.
As much as I love to rag on CharlesdaTurd, the gold coach isn’t actually gold, but gold leaf. So not as valuable. The weight of the carriage is from the heavy carved wood that has had thin gold sheets applied. I believe the wood is English oak, but it could be another species. The suspension is leather that the upper part of the carriage is attached to allowing it to wallow like a beaching whale.
It has always been an anachronism from it’s creation. Just like Charles and the entire BRF.
The Clown in the Crown.
The only thing he could do that would be acceptable is to say he’s selling the palaces and giving the money to the people and the NHS.
He’s a spoilt idiot. He’s already meddling saying people who had covid should do yoga. From a man who will never wait for an appointment or treatment.
Go away Charles. We no longer want you.
Clown.
Do these people not have regular dental visits?! Why do their teeth look so bad? I’m not even suggesting veneers, just their general appearance. It’s like having crooked, yellowing teeth is a point of pride for them 🤮
they drink a lot of tea and scotch, and I think they’re all secret smokers.
the over bleached almost blue-white teeth and orthodontia starting in elementary school is not a global thing. I think Americans aren’t accustomed to seeing people with actual natural teeth (or hair, boobs, lips etc).
Lol!
Same, WOW, you have a very skewed idea of Americans. I’m going out on a limb and guess that you are British.
I was looking at what Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands wore got his ceremony and it was white tie/tails with his orders and coronation robe. That seems more appropriate
Someone needs to tell these people that the empire is dead.
I vaguely recall some fairly recent images–i.e., within the past year–of Charles & William both wearing knee-breeches & silk stockings for some formal affair, so he’s not exactly averse to going with fussy outdated traditions. And Kaiser’s right, stupid breeches vs. tinpot dictator, what to do, what to do.
This whole coronation is going to be quite a mess. One of the few things that would make it bearable is if Harry and Meghan decide not to go and take some inspiration for celebrating it from Veep, specifically the finale when Catherine and Marjorie are drinking margaritas while watching Selina’s funeral.
Go to any Food bank line up in London and ask if any of those folks are going to the Coronation.Ask the single parent that cannot afford a good coat or nutritious food for their child if they are going to the coronation. So many British people are in need of the basics and Chuckles is wasting so much taxpayers funds for a circus for the elite.
