The celebrities who want to get noticed on the Oscars red carpet come the earliest, around five pm EST, which has to involve some fortitude and snacks I would imagine. That’s about seven hours of just being in one place, with full makeup in the most expensive jewelry and fashion you’ll wear in your whole life. After writing that last sentence, I definitely think it must be worth it. It’s got to sting if you lose an Academy Award early and you have to sit there smiling and clapping the rest of the night, but if you’re just there to support your movie it’s probably a fun night. Monica Barbaro was in Top Gun: Maverick and although she didn’t make a big impression on me in that movie I’ll remember her now. She was an early arrival on the red carpet and made so many of us go “oooh, who is that?” I absolutely love this two color Elie Saab gown. The design is simple and elegant, it’s basically a gorgeous blue chiffon gown with eggplant color back and sides. Monica told Laverne Cox that she’s loyal to Elie Saab because they’re one of the only designers who would dress her early in her career. It paid off for her!
Monica’s costar Jay Ellis was in Fendi and he was an early arrival too. Stylish! More men should wear beaded/embellished tuxes.
While Tom Cruise (L. Ron Hubba Hubba, to quote one of Kimmel’s decent jokes) wasn’t there some of the other cast was. Presenter Jennifer Connelly wore Louis Vuitton. I found this severe but maybe it was her styling. Where was Vision? I would have liked to see Paul Bettany there.
Miles Teller’s wife Keleigh Sperry Teller was in Celine. She was a knockout!
Also looking amazing was Ava Duvernay in Louis Vuitton. This is how you do black and silver metallic.
Speaking of Vision here’s Elizabeth Olsen in Givenchy. She looked kind of miserable on the red carpet but she perked up when presenting with Pedro Pascal. Anyone would. Also, screw HBO for not premiering The Last of Us on Friday this week like they did with the Super Bowl.

The women really brought their A game to this event. So difficult to choose one favorite. I like Jennifer’s dress – the more I look at it, the more I like it. The hair is a bit severe though.
And all the dresses with the bright beautiful colors were a feast for the eyes. I have two that were my favorite of the evening and waiting to see if they are to be covered. A beautiful array of dresses last night. Much better than in years past.
Monica’s dress was my favorite look. The colors are an unusual pairing but they compliment one another so well.

Jennifer definitely likes austere styling but she was much happier in the theatre and on stage.
I liked Elizabeth Olsen’s dress in motion – it was very slinky and cool.
Monica’s dress is ok — it’s not bad, I just find the color combination to be completely random.
And I don’t know what Jennifer Connelly did to her face (other than her long ago nose job, but I’m not talking about that), but my own face hurts just looking at her. She has that perpetually “surprised” look and frozen features.
Odd looks abound.
Ava looks lovely. The first time I’ve seen someone nail the right way to do the gloves trend, too. Jennifer does look too severe, but some of it is her facial expression. She is always so dour. The Olsen sister, her earrings are good, but otherwise nothing works about her look.
@ Chaine, Ava Duvernay was a vision!!! She was stunning from head to toe. Ms. Duvernay was showing everyone how to pull of this look, from the gloves to the metallics as well as the metallic heals as well.
Monica Barbaro was the perfection of old Hollywood glamour!! When I saw her in this dress, I was thinking that this is what Halle Berry should have gone for, not to diminish MB. And Jay Ellis looked superb!! He chose to dress for the Academy and it shows!!
Monica’s dress is beautiful. Jennifer did look really severe in that dress. I like the Celine dress. It is fun & young. I don’t how she puts up with him. That boy get on my last nerve. 🙂 Ava is always a goddess. I didn’t like Elizabeth’s dress at all. She didn’t look like she felt very good either. Like bad PMS day and she wanted to watch the Oscar’s at home and eat peanut butter. I felt bad for her.
Barbaro’s dress looks like a cross between a Madame Gres and 50s Dior, but I like that about it. Jennifer C’s styling oddly reminds me of Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face.

I love Malala’s entire look, and Monica Barbaro looks stunning. I am now going to type a sentence I never thought I would even think: The men, as a whole, looked so much better than the women, last night. Other than these two women, I was meh on the rest.
Wow, I missed this look last night, but I love it! I liked how she was mugging when Kimmel was joking with the Top Gun cast during the ceremony. I’ll remember her now too.
I absolutely adored Monica Barbaro in the movie and she and Jay Ellis both look fantastic here! Jennifer Connelly looked stunning in the movie with the wavy long loose hair. She always looks incredibly severe in all other appearances, including here.
Yes, Jennifer Connelly always takes the severe look at all awards shows and I don’t quite know why but most of the time she knocks it out of the park but I think that her choice of hair here was a little too extreme.
Yes, she and Rooney Mara. They look so much better with their hair looser.
