Two Fridays ago, Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth announced their split. Given Reese’s personality and the huge amount of money at stake, I felt pretty certain that they would have only announced their split when they’d already gotten all of their financial and legal ducks in a row. I still believe that, just as I believe that the steady Friday/Saturday announcements have been preplanned, and organized in a particular way. So, two Fridays ago, we got the split announcement. Over the weekend, we learned that Reese has filed for divorce. Two Fridays from now, we’ll probably get a joint statement saying they’ve worked out their divorce agreement.
Reese Witherspoon has initiated divorce proceedings after announcing her split from Jim Toth. According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the Academy Award winner, 47, listed “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their divorce when she filed Saturday in the Circuit Court of Davidson County, Tenn.
Witherspoon’s document lists the filing date as the date of their separation and says the couple has a prenuptial agreement in place. She also asks the court to designate her and Toth as joint custodians of their 10-year-old son, Tennessee James.
Witherspoon and the CAA talent agent announced their divorce in a joint statement last Friday, days before their 12th anniversary.
A source told PEOPLE that the two “really are the best of friends,” adding: “This is such an amicable decision. They are so committed to co-parenting together. They are invested in their whole family and making this as smooth as possible for everyone.”
I’m glad Reese has a prenup, although given how much money she’s made in the past twelve years and given they live in a community-property state, I do wonder if Toth is trying to get a much bigger settlement than Reese wants to give. I mean, she sold Hello Sunshine for $900 million AND Toth was part of the production company and he helped her facilitate some of those deals. He wants a slice of that, I’m sure. But yeah, I’ll say it again – this is going to be like Gisele and Tom Brady. I guarantee Reese and Jim are already working with a divorce mediator and probably a private judge. They’ll have this divorce wrapped up in a bow by the end of April, if not sooner.

I agree with this prediction: not all partners who have been cheated on 1- wish to announce it publicly to peers 2- divorcing couples keeping infidelity under wraps to protect the kiddo, who at 10 is still very vulnerable.

Given he seems to fancy himself as some sort of tech starter upper he’s gonna need as much of her money as he can get – tech start ups need a LOT of funding.
And yeah am beginning to think he totally cheated and they’ve announced to get ahead of a story coming out about it.
I read somewhere that he got half of the Hello Sunshine money as it was their joint company. And then my cynical conclusion when reading about his midlife crisis stuff was that maybe he thinks that with several hundred million in the bank he can do better (I.e. younger) than Reese.
They lost a lot of money in that Quibi debacle though. Could be hundreds of millions.
Reese is so cute and sweet and southern that it must be husband’s fault. I need to order another pastel pink gingham Peter Pan collar dress and matching kitten heels with a bow at the toe.
I’m not sure what happened with RW and JT, but the reporting on the breakup of their marriage is weird. Nobody was paying attention, then just before their wedding anniversary we heard that they were separated. Then people were like, oh that’s why they split their company and sold off their joint real estate starting during the Covid period. Then there was som shady reporting on JT’s midlife crisis with his sudden sudden love of tats and chunky jewelry, and it seems like RW’s sources are driving this narrative. Now she’s filed for divorce and they are the best of friends?! Right. They should have just kept it simple and blamed the pandemic—now it seems like they Barbra Streisanded their split.
I agree it’s odd that they keep everything on the DL for years and now Reese’s PR team is running to the media with multiple stories about him being the reason for the divorce.

On top of getting shady vibes, they never made sense to me to begin with. Did RW want to marry someone that was not an actor or did he sweep her off her feet? They never made sense to me and his mid-life crisis PR spin has RW’s fingers all over it. It’s not a good look on her. Her PR people want to maintain her sweet, southern and down to earth image. Her PR team should shut these rumors down as it makes her look the opposite of what they are trying to achieve. Just my 2 cents…
