It’s not like the American Music Awards are really about the awards, but I’ll give you the brief list of winners just in case. Favorite Group: The Black Eyed Peas; Country Band/Duo/Group: Rascal Flatts; Female Pop/Rock Artist: Taylor Swift; Alternative Rock Artist: Green Day; Male Soul/R&B Artist: Michael Jackson; Male Country Artist: Keith Urban; Female Soul/R&B Artist: Beyonce; Female Country Artist: Taylor Swift; Male Pop/Rock Artist: Michael Jackson; Male Rap/Hip-Hop Artist: Jay-Z; Artist of the Year: Taylor Swift. So, yeah. Taylor Swift was the big winner, once again. She didn’t even show up. She accepted via satellite, because she’s in Europe.
As far as the fashion went, well… it looks like no one really called their stylist to ensure they would look amazing last night. I guess Nicole Kidman looked cute, sort of. She was her husband’s date (he won) and she was a presenter with Kate Hudson, who almost flashed her bits in a really low-cut silver number. Kidman wore silver too – a silver and pink striped gown that I find ugly, but whatever.
One of the biggest fashion disasters was Rihanna, of course. The girl can’t go a week without getting something wrong in some epic, horrible way. On the red carpet, she wore an ugly black strapless gown. For her performance, however, she changed into this monstrosity. White bondage… that is pretty much grotesque. Oh, and she fake-tattooed her album name (“Rated R”) on her chest and neck.
And of course, Lady Gaga. She scares children at this point.
And then, of course, there was Adam Lambert’s performance. Ugh. People are describing this sh-t as “raunchy”. I think it’s just weak. You can tell how bad his voice is, and now all he’s got is dumb “I’m so avant garde because I’m gay” crap. The Huffington Post is claiming Lambert “fell” during his performance just like Jennifer Lopez, but I kind of think the tumble was minor, and may have been part of the thing. Whatever:
You know what I did last night? I watched my DVDs of The West Wing, season 7. And I feel like a better person for it. Seriously.

My rule on awards shows are, if Rob Zombie, The Prodigy and System of a Down aren’t performing, I am not watching.

Adam LAMEbert’s performance was nothing short of epically horrific. These obnoxious fans of his are saying he’s greater than Freddy Mercury, Elvis, MJ, you name it. From what I saw of his **ahem** “performance” he has officially jumped the shark that would have been his career with that horrible act. He should be fined. We saw a 2 second nipple slip a few years ago during the Super Bowl, and they got heavily fined for that. Lambert’s act was a fine every 3 seconds. WTF at the simulated BJ and the kissing the straight guy in the band? I wish this guy would go back to wherever it was he came from. CAN’T STAND HIM.
The only thing I want to say about the AMA’s is, why does Janet Jackson even try? Her performane was horrible!!!! Her lip synching was so bad. Her lips werent even matching up to the words.

@NR – totally agree!! Call me a Puritanical prude if you will, but it was completely inappropriate for an awards show (MTV maybe, but on ABC?? no way). He really had the pressure put on him with being the closing act and it being his big debut performance, but he went way, way overboard. I was considering getting his CD but will definitely not be paying money for that. He was so amazing on Idol (though I was glad Kris Allen won), it’s too bad he just shot his entire career right off the bat.
I’m still trying to figure out why Janet Jackson was there. To quote one of her own songs, What have you done for me lately? The medley just proves she hasn’t been relevant since 1990. Still doing the same tired moves that are a rip off of her late brother. Boring!

Why is Rhianna wearing extra large paper doilies? She seriously needs a Stacey London fashion intervention, although I’m not sure even Stacey can fix this one. I really hate what she did to her hair; she should just shave it off and start from scratch.
Kate Hudson looks like she’s wearing glittery farm overalls. And Rhianna is just a big ole hot mess.
I gotta respect Kate for not being shy about her small assets, but she’s definitely crossed the line into OVER emphasizing their smallness here. All you can do is focus on her chest and breathlessly wait for them to pop out. Our peep, as the case may be.
Back in the day, Goldie Hawn was known for being a sex symbol despite her flat chest. My sense about Kate is that she’s continuing her mother’s style. She is obviously fine with having no boobs, so I don’t really know why anyone else would care so much about it. It’s just her body style and she’s good with it. Personally, I think she’s sexy and would not kick her out of my bed, lol.
As for Rihanna, for once I actually like her fashion choices here. She is rocking the hell out of those two odd outfits – can’t think of anyone but her who could pull that off!
Why do girls with these big shapeless legs wear their dresses so short? It just emphasizes what they dont have! Nicole Kidman could wear a short dress….she has gorgeous long shapely legs.

I actually love the fact that Kate Hudson flaunts her flat chest. I was gonna say tiny breasts, but that would be an overstatement. Ain’t saying I like what she wore at AMA’s but it’s nice to see someone not get implants, which are disgusting aesthetically and philosophically. To me, anyhow.

lady gaga can sing. whatever else i think of her at times.. i really can’t deny she’s got an impressive voice. she hits her pitch, stays in pitch, rings those tones out and has great vocal control. what songs i’ve heard i do kind of like… she’s catchy. but i’m super-impressed with the strength of her voice.
I usually watch these awards shows on >>> fast forward on tivo so all the BS doesn’t get on my nerves. So I watched the whole thing, stopping on a few performances and other chunks, in about ten minutes. So, sans boring crap parts, what I gleaned was: Rhianna’s got a killer ass, loved the stripes, Nicole is pretty, gaga is bizarre yet right on the money with the performance, Kate’s dress was a bad choice, Taylor Swift was gracious, and Michael Jackson still won’t really go away. How many more awards shows is Janet going to lipsynch to? I’m really just tired of her. I would love it if she would go away and make another, different, record and stop it with the fake singing. Gaga makes a fair portion of the others look like hacks. She can belt it like a damn steamroller.

What hypocrisy. Madonna can simulate a menage a trois, but Lambert can’t kiss a dude? If you deem it generally inappropriate then that’s one thing, but if not recognize that you are applying a double standard. My complaint is that he is not established enough to pull this kind of stunt without negative consequences. Watch promoters begin to pull their bookings.

alicia & j.lo were good for a few laughs. Rihanna of course sounded like a strangled frog as usual, shakira had like a million backup dancers doing the left overs from the ‘single-ladies’ choreographer. Suprisingly enough though lady gaga had the best performance. who knew she could sing so well?
