Serena Williams gave birth to her second child! It sounds like this birth was a lot less complicated than her first one. When she gave birth to Olympia – her little Virgo – in 2017, Serena suffered massive postpartum complications. She had blood clots in her lungs and she was slowly suffocating to death. Serena’s husband Alexis announced the birth of their second baby girl, Adira River Ohanian. It kind of sounds like this kid will go by her middle name too (Olympia’s first name is Alexis as well). From Alexis’s IG:
Welcome, Adira River Ohanian.
I’m grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama. Feeling grateful. @serenawilliams you’ve now given me another incomparable gift — you’re the GMOAT. Thanks to all the amazing medical staff who took care of my wife & our daughter 🙏 I’ll never forget the moment I introduced @olympiaohanian to her baby sister.
“Your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.”
I had to look up the quote because I’m not religious in the slightest. It’s Isaiah 48:18: “If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.” I kind of just think they both liked the name River, but Serena IS religious (she’s a Jehovah’s Witness) so who knows. It’s crazy that Alexis (Taurus) and Serena (Libra) have a Virgo girl and a Leo girl. That house is just jam-packed full of charisma!

Wohoo! Congrats to Serena , Alexis and big sis Olympia.
I am getting my insemination hopefully at en of the month if all works so looking forward to being a mom and having my little bundle too after this long long road… 🤞 it happens for me.
Best wishes to you @cel2495!
Best of luck Cel!
All the best!
Best wishes for you and your family @ Cel2495!!!
Wishing you all the luck Cel!! I did three rounds of PGD IVF for my two sons and it was so hard. I hope you are giving yourself lots of care and grace.
Thank you so much ladies! I’m so happy and nervous and in pain too but looking forward to it! @Sophie, I completely understand … I am in this journey the past 2 yrs and has been a roller coaster. It’s definitely hard and I am just praying I am getting to the finish line. Injections, exams, and more exams as well as all the $$ has been so taxing physically and mentally. Oh , and I am always super super emotional. I cried seeing Serena with her baby.
Get some sleep now, Cel! And congrats!
Cel, I have two beautiful nieces due to IVF, and it also took years for my in-laws. Best wishes and lots of hugs!!
Congratulations to Serena and Alexis and Olympia! Adira is a great name (I love that you hear “dear” in there) and goes well with River.
Congrats to their family! ❤
Congratulations to the whole family! I love the name!
So glad she delivered safely. I always fear for Black women giving birth because our doctors don’t listen to us. My cousin almost died giving birth in Florida four years ago because her doctor ignored what she was telliing him and I still think about it a lot.
Agreed. she had a terrible time when Olympia was born-she nearly didn’t make it. She also felt that her doctor and nurses didn’t listen to her or take her issues seriously.
My guess this time is she was well prepared. She probably had to be on heparin shots for the entire pregnancy. And she obviously has a fiercely devoted husband. So happy the baby has arrived and Momma looks good.
And if Serena Williams can’t get adequate postnatal care, who can?
Honestly, the state of maternal care in the U.S. is disgraceful.
So happy that all went with for this beautiful family this time around.
Yay! I’m glad everyone is healthy and that Serena didn’t run into any complications. It sounds like the hospital staff this time was very attentive to her concerns and wellbeing.
Congrats to the family.
I had no idea Serena was a witness but that’s a beautiful quote and I love the name. So glad this time around she had the best medical care (that everyone deserves but doesn’t get). I’ve helped out in /worked in health forever in different ways and it’s not equal. That’s why I volunteer to try to help those without a voice. Anyway congrats to the O family!
Congratulations to the happy family!!! And how cute is Olympia in that pose? LOL!!!! So adorbs.
Aww, yay! Congrats! That little Olympia is adorable. (Please please please don’t ever break up.)
I am relieved Serena had a easier delivery and love how Olympia has the fancy hair, dress, nails and jewelry! One can tell she feels special too, smart parenting.
So happy for them! I didn’t realize how worried I had been for her until I heard this news. That pic of Olympia meeting her baby sister is adorable 😍
Congratulations to the happy family!
Congratulations big mama, big papa, and big sis!
Another well-deserved blessing. Thrilled for that lovely family! In many respects, Serena and Alexis are American royalty.
Glad Serena had a safe and peaceful delivery. Both names are beautiful. Congrats to her and Alexis. And Olympia!
Congratulations to Serena, Alexis and Big Sis Olympia, on the arrival of the JellyBean, Adira River!
It looks like Serena had a much easier time with this birth. Granted, the first birth can be a mystery but Serena had a terrible , traumatic experience with the doctors and staff ignoring her pleas about how she felt after Olympia was born. Somebody, like Serena’s agent Jill Smoler or her lawyer or Alexis, probably promised some serious retribution if anything similar happened.
Like another poster said, Serena was probably on heparin the whole pregnancy and was closely watched. I’m just glad to see her up and about with her beautiful family 🙂
Does it say where she delivered? I know they have been based out of Florida during her career, but I would be more than a little hesitant to give birth, especially a high-risk pregnancy/birth, in Florida.
Welcome little River!!! Many congratulations to the entire family with the arrival of River and her wonderful sister Olympia, Mum and father!!!!
So happy to hear that Serena has had a healthy delivery without suffering complications and that she continues to rest and recover as she pleases!!!
Extremely happy for the entire family!!!!
Congrats to them! I am so relieved that Serena made it through this birth ok. I guess they waited until pretty close to the end for the gender reveal, I do not know how they had the patience to wait that long! The second I found out I was pregnant I was so antsy to know, even though I was fine with any answer.
Agreed…
So happy for Serena that she’s gotten thru this process safely and now the whole family can bask in the joy of it all.
Congratulations to the entire family!!
Olympia is killing me with her blue nail polish holding her new baby sis. Cuteness overload!
