Commander Biden bit another Secret Service agent, his ’11th biting incident’

Hey, remember how the Secret Service systematically deleted all of their text messages from January 5th and 6th in 2021? Remember how Donald Trump assaulted a Secret Service agent and we didn’t find out until Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony? Remember how Joe Biden didn’t trust Trump and Pence’s Secret Service agents and he wanted Kamala Harris to have his old VP team? Remember how many times Donald Trump has rolled up to places with an insane motorcade post-White House? Yeah. The Secret Service has been compromised. People don’t like to admit it, people don’t like to say it out loud. But the highest protection agency in America has been compromised by MAGA terrorists. The only one who seems to understand this is Commander Biden, the German Shepherd who resides at the White House.

President Joe Biden’s younger dog, Commander, bit another US Secret Service agent at the White House Monday evening, CNN has learned, the 11th known biting incident involving the 2-year-old German Shepherd.

“Yesterday around 8 p.m., a Secret Service Uniformed Division police officer came in contact with a First Family pet and was bitten. The officer was treated by medical personnel on complex,” USSS chief of communications Anthony Guglielmi told CNN in a statement.

The injured officer spoke with Secret Service Uniformed Division Chief Alfonso M. Dyson Sr. on Tuesday and is doing OK, Guglielmi said.

Commander has been involved in at least 11 biting incidents at the White House and in Delaware, according to CNN reporting and US Secret Service email correspondence, including a November 2022 incident where an officer was hospitalized after the dog clamped down on their arms and thighs.

White House officials said in July that the Bidens were working through new training and leashing protocols for the family pet following the incidents. Asked by CNN whether the new training had taken place or if any further action would be sought, Elizabeth Alexander, communications director for the first lady, said in a statement that “the First Family continues to work on ways to help Commander handle the often unpredictable nature of the White House grounds.”

“The President and First Lady are incredibly grateful to the Secret Service and Executive Residence staff for all they do to keep them, their family, and the country safe,” she continued.

[From CNN]

As many have pointed out, Commander is only biting Secret Service agents, not senior staff, not gardeners, not Democratic leaders. Commander is on a one-dog mission to take out compromised Secret Service agents. Commander is going to protect his mom and dad no matter what. It’s actually really funny to me that Commander keeps biting agents and the Bidens are like “that sucks, kiddo, we feel terrible about it” and then they just… keep Commander in the White House, and he keeps biting people.

Commander knows what’s up with those shady SS agents. If I were Biden and Co., I’d pay close attention to them.

    • Cessily says:

It is very telling that the dog is only biting SS agents and not also other random people. I was raised with German shepherd police trained dogs and they are extremely protective but not viscous dogs. I trust a dog instincts every time and I love all the posts defending the dog.

    • Just Chelle says:

      Yep. He knows.

Wasn’t Commander adopted from a shelter? The hubs and I rescued a poor, neglected doggo from his tragic life on the streets. We took him to a no-kill shelter, where the staff veterinarian told us if we decided to adopt him, he’d become the most loyal, loving and protective member of the family. Ten years later, I can confirm the vet was 1000% correct. Jack is even protective of our three kitties.

I’m so glad POTUS (and FLOTUS) are being so fiercely defended by Commander, who clearly has the ability to sniff out problematic agents.

I wish MVP also had a Commander in her life.

    • Alice says:

Exactly! Even more so, knowing that Major also bit some of these agents! It’d be an extremely rare coincidence if Biden had two dogs who both had the same behaviour issues. It is telling that Major was acting protectively too only against SSA and President Biden and his family should trust Commander now. And not allow him being sent away. For their own safety.

  2. Ponsby says:

Thank you for this take, I love it, I’m obsessed with it. Live Laugh Lunge at compromised secret service agents.

    • Kersplasha says:

Live, Laugh, Lunge is 100% my comment of the week.

      • Bee (not THAT Bee) says:

I need this as a necklace!

I do still think that naming a dog “Commander” is a terrible idea. They already think that! Don’t reinforce it! Obviously they can’t use Joe but there’s got to be some middle ground. Antony? Sparky? ???

  3. helonearth says:

Only biting Secret Service agents? Yeah, he knows what’s going on. Good dog.

  4. Hannah says:

Yeah, I’m with Commander Biden on this one. I have found the opinions and instincts of animals and small children far more effective than a shit tonne of people

    • Danbury says:

Yup, team doggo on this one. He just keeps defending his parents from the derangers, and we love him for it

    • TeaTimeIsComing says:

I always trust a dogs judgement about not liking a person. Theyre smarter than we are

    • lkm says:

This just screams privilege. Any one else with a dog that bit on 2 separate occassions would have the dog taken away, put down and potentially facing criminal charges depending on who that dog bit.
It angers me because I know of dogs that were good protective dogs but had to be put down for a bite…not a mauling …a tiny bite

      • MoonTheLoon says:

Yeah, it is privilege and that’s infuriating. Having said that, I’m happy that his family is standing behind him and might even be conducting their own intel gathering about the incidents and agents involved. Maybe this will be something that will help other animals.

      • La Dolce Vita says:

Yes, don’t dogs have to be put down once they bite a human?
Not only because they have amply demonstrated that they are dangerous and badly-trained, but also because they may develop a taste for human flesh.

  5. I had a German shepherd and she would follow those who came into the house that she was suspicious of and I heeded that warning. It was people like the cable people or those who did maintenance on my hvac. She never bit them and didn’t follow all of them just the ones that she was suspicious of. Joe should keep his dog at the White House to weed out the bad secret service.

  6. garrity says:

    Dogs always know.

  7. North of Boston says:

While in general no one should have to be repeatedly exposed to bite-prone dogs at work, the ‘only bites SS agents… not all, just some’ in this case makes me think Commander Biden is just reading the room, the body language and doing his job.

That said, muzzles are a thing.

    • Smart&Messy says:

Yeah, I get the joke, but I don’t think it’s funny. Some of these incidents sound quite serious. I wouldn’t want to return to a workplace where the same dog has bitten people, including me, 11 times. And their response sounds like they just dismiss it with a shrug.

      • Ash says:

It isn’t a joke, secret service agents should be investigated.

      • Sandra says:

Secret Service agents shouldn’t be involved in a plan to literally try and over throw the government. So…..

      • FancyPants says:

Same! I keep rereading this and I don’t see where it officially says he’s only biting Secret Service agents. I like President & Dr. Biden and distrust the USSS as much as anybody else here, but the bottom line is that this is an aggressive dog who keeps biting people so violently that they need medical treatment, and the Bidens are terrible owners to keep putting their dog in these situations. I would not appreciate anybody joking about me getting a violent dog bite “oh well she must be an ahole.”

      • DaisyMay says:

No one should be exposed to a dangerous dog.
Why can’t the Bidens hire some non-traitorous agents?

  8. BQM says:

Maybe commander needs a titanium grill Ala the SEAL dog who helped take out bin Laden and other terrorists. Actually, invite the Chaos and Insurrection Caucus from the House over for a nice lunch. Jim Jordan and Matt gaetz could use the once over. Though they’d probably try to impeach Biden over it.

  9. lawyercat says:

Look at Commander’s face in those pictures. Not a shred of malice in that good boy’s heart. He’s onto something for sure – go Commander!!

  10. Concern Fae says:

The way cops lie, I don’t even know that I believe he’s biting them. It just strains belief that he’d bite 11 Secret Service agents and nobody else. If they do know it’s a problem, why are these agents not avoiding the dog? It doesn’t make sense.

    • Ameerah M says:

      Exactly.

    • Dara says:

My personal conspiracy theory is that they are antagonizing the dog on purpose.

      • MoonTheLoon says:

@Dara, I do wonder about this. Since the President isn’t taking the same steps as he did with Major, they have to do this with subtlety. Knowing what we know about the Secret Service’s involvement in January 6, I think Commander (and Major, before him) are being the canary in the coal mine. If they could communicate any other way, I’m sure they would. Excessive barking will only get them told off or shut away.

  11. Newt says:

Dogs are very intuitive, particularly this breed. Commander is sniffing out the bad apples.

This has me wondering: how easy/hard is it for POTUS/FLOTUS to have certain SS agents switched out? Is it just a phone call? Is it a whole ordeal? Just curious. I am also curious if it’s the same SS agents over and over.

    • H says:

It’s the same SS agents who guard the Biden’s (they are switched out on rotation in a team). I worked with the SS while I was in the military. The family and the agents gets very familiar with each other.

I was in the military during Bill Clinton’s presidency and I would meet with the same guys who prepped him coming to our base every time. Same for Gore’s (VP) team. Only time I was ever perplexed was when guys who had been on Gore’s detail showed up on Clinton’s detail the following year. Gossip was they hated Al and Tipper.

As for the dog, I wonder if he’s biting UNIFORMED SS agents. Maybe the uniform is a trigger? Since he’s not biting staff in the WH.

      • Dara says:

Commander has been seeing uniforms, and the people in them, his entire life though. That was why they got him after Major was banished, he was a young puppy so he could be socialized to the environment from the beginning. It feels like something else is going on here.

My random thought is that something happened in the Secret Service culture after 9/11 and it was moved from Treasury to be under Homeland Security umbrella. There have been so many incidents of incompetence and horrible behavior since then it’s hard to count them all.

    • Eurydice says:

Biden changed the Secret Service team back at the beginning of his term in 2020 and he brought in people who had worked with him when he was VP. He also named a new director last year. The idea that Biden didn’t trust the SS came from a book that was published last year, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t trust those working for him now. Commander is just a poorly trained dog in a stressful environment.

      • Dawn says:

Who only bites one group of people? Poorly trained aggressive dogs rarely target just one group of people over and over again.

Maybe he picks up on their tension, maybe it’s something else, but there is a reason he’s biting Secret Service agent, and only Secret Service Agents,

      • Eurydice says:

@Dawn – I don’t know why dogs attack people and I prefer never to be around them enough to find out. My only point is that the protection staff President Biden has now is made up of people he’s chosen and trusts. So, the idea people have that the dog is sniffing out secret MAGAs makes no sense.

      • Satish More says:

        Dawn

No one actually knows if Commander is only biting SS agents, someone here asked if that was the case, that is all.
As far as I know, it hasn’t been stated that all 11 people (if that is even an accurate #) were all SS. And regarding your question of “what kind of dog only bites one group of people?” LOTS of dogs only show aggression towards one group. I knew a dog that was highly suspicious of all men, and only showed men aggression. And I once dated a guy with a rescue dog who, and it sucks to admit this, showed MAJOR aggression towards homeless people and/or people who “looked homeless.” The person who suggested that it might be a uniform thing could be right on the money.

      • Bumblebee says:

An ‘aggressive’ dog is reacting out of fear to drive away what they perceive as danger. Also called a reactive dog that has been triggered.
A ‘biting’ dog is a reactive dog that has tried with body language, growls, and other sounds, to tell people, ‘back off, go away’ and has reached their limit. Biting is the last resort.
(There are some biting/aggressive dogs that are that way because of ‘training/abuse’ by people. But even then most of those dogs are still attacking from fear).

  12. Harper says:

Alpha male Secret Service agents being put in their place by Commander. At this point, it’s the people who are the problem, not the dog.

  13. Brassy Rebel says:

Whether the dog is actually detecting a threat from the people he is biting is impossible to determine. In any case, this is “no joke”, as Joe Biden would say. According to the news report, one person was so badly injured by Commander that they required hospitalization last year. The person bitten on Monday night was a uniformed officer, in other words not someone tasked with presidential security but protecting the WH grounds. My guess is most of the bite victims have been uniformed guards not from the security detail. That may explain why others are not being bitten. The uniforms could be triggering the animal.

The fact that the presidential detail could be politically compromised does not justify the fact that an aggressive dog this size is attacking people. If they fail to address this problem and correct it, the Bidens could face major law suits. And they better hope that their dog doesn’t permanently injure or even kill someone. “But he was MAGA!” will not work as a defense in court. Sorry to be the skunk at this garden party but that’s how I see it.

    • Smart&Messy says:

Thank you! I thought I was the only one.

    • Eurydice says:

I agree. I guess I was too skunk-like in my comment because it was deleted, but you’ve said it in a much nicer way. And the article says the dog’s been involved in “at least 11 biting incidents,” so we don’t know how many more or if they were only against protection officers.

Dog bites and the possible politics of the Secret Service are two different things. If Biden is unhappy with his detail he can replace it. But a dog that attacks is a workplace hazard. Every state has dog-bite laws covering owner responsibility and how many times a dog can bite before it’s euthanized. In the outside world, this dog would have been put down. To let it keep happening is not fair to the workers or the dog.

    • kgeo says:

Yeah, I have to chime in here. I have a little pit bull that is the sweetest thing when we’re anywhere but my fence. Besides children entering our fence unseen, the only person she has keyed in on is one of our best friends who I would trust with my children’s lives, but he’s SWAT and the way he carries himself is triggering for her. The longer she is around him, the more she calms down because he is a dog person and knows how to handle himself around dogs like her, but it’s not the same when it’s a small woman or man who doesn’t have that presence. All this to say, it could just be the way they hold themselves. I generally trust dogs instincts, but certain types of LEO carry themselves in a certain way that can be triggering. Also, keep the dog away from people if he’s going to bite. A german shepherd can do some damage.

    • agirlandherdogs says:

My concern is regardless of why he’s biting some people over others, the fact that he has had so many biting incidents is evidence of a stressed/anxious dog. I strongly believe when you bring a dog into your family, you have a duty of care for that dog, which includes not putting them in situations that set them up to fail. I have a dog selective dog, and it is MY job to provide the stability he needs to succeed and live his best boy life. The White House is an incredibly busy, hectic environment (even in the residence – there is no private in the WH), filled with stressed out individuals. Emotions are high. And dogs pick up on that and react accordingly. If your dog is consistently biting people and you are not addressing the environmental factors, that is your failure as a pet owner.

      • MC says:

☝️ Agree. The first thing I thought when I read this was this is a clear sign this dog is stressed. When stressed, dogs are naturally inclined to exhibit certain traits- especially ones they are bred for. Poor Commander 🙁 Perhaps the Bidens should consider a rescue or a breed that isn’t inclined to guard, like a lab.

    • Eleanor says:

I have to agree. If Commander is that accurate in selecting who to bite, that is interesting. But he is not trained as a working dog at the White House. Whatever his instincts and breeding, this is not acceptable behavior for a pet. I hope someone in the extended Biden clan can re-home him for his sake.

I’ll come get him right now!

    • Lionel says:

Yeah, I find this report concerning too. I’m as strong a Biden supporter as anyone commenting here and yet I’m worrying about Commander’s environment. It wouldn’t surprise me if Joe and Jill simply don’t have the time/energy/bandwidth to properly train a dog. And while that’s understandable, it also means that maybe they just shouldn’t own a dog at this busy juncture in their lives.

  14. Lara (the other) says:

I think by know it should be clear that the white house is not the right place the poor dog.
The reason why he is only biting secret service agents is that no other stangers come this close to the president when the Commander Biden is present.
He followes his protective insticts but might be better of at a place with less strangers near his family.

    • Giddy says:

I agree that the WH is not the right place for Commander. But where is? At any other Biden residence there will be SS, so where can he go? I would do a lot of things for a dear friend, especially if that friend was the POTUS. But, I wouldn’t take in a GS with a biting problem. Sorry, but the liability for a private person is just too much.

      • Lara (The Other) says:

Depends on the biting problem. If its “only” strangers at home, it can be manageable in an average household.
My brothers dog (rescue with unknown history) is highly protective and needs to be introduced to every person entering the house. once a person is declared as safe by a famliy member she ist the most cuddly dog ever.
If its a similiar case with Commander Biden its just a question of a home where not too many different people enter. I can imagine there are too many people in the white house for him to remember everyone who has been introduced as safe and to a dog the whole demeanor of security personel can seem threatening.
Get him a quiet place with few visitors and he might be perfectly fine and less stressed.

      • BQM says:

There’s the house in Delaware. I don’t know if any of the incidents have taken place there. There’d be a small contingent of agents there when the first family isn’t in residence. If it’s the stress of the WH aggravating commander, the family home may be the way to go. It’s where major is.

  15. Bumblebee says:

This is only funny in the cartoons. Too many people have been bitten by this dog and I’m afraid he’s going to go too far one day and have to be put down. Save this dog by moving him out of the White House.

    • ncboudicca says:

@Bumblebee, I totally agree. I was bitten in the face as a child (it was my fault; I didn’t read the dog’s body language correctly.) and it took 3 plastic surgeries to sew up and then straighten the scars. That was a total accident and nothing more than a warning bite from the dog – if the dog had been aggressive then it could have been much worse. I love dogs – I have 3 sleeping at my feet right now – and I’m just thinking this is the wrong environment for Commander. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I kept any of my dogs in a situation where they felt they had to bite and this could escalate into something awful for a person or for the dog. Commander needs to go live with a Trainer or with a family member.

      • Nanny to the Rescue says:

No small child is to blame if bitten by a dog. It’s either the parents or the dog handler’s fault, depending on what happened.

But what is clear, is that unlike some people here believe, dogs are not always good judges of character. If they were, we wouldn’t have regular attacks on small children.

Dogs can be triggered by a lot of things (not all bad or evil in our view) and large dogs that get triggered often are potentially dangerous to all around them.

Commander is a beautiful dog but he needs to be moved sonewhere where his aggression can’t do any harm.

      • Brenda says:

        @NCBOUDICCA
I am so sorry that happened to you as a child. There are plenty of ER and child psychiatry physicians who think very small children and animals just don’t belong together, and it’s because we’ve seen too much of this sort of thing. The kids can’t legitimately be expected to have animal safety rules dialed in when they are so young.
I couldn’t wait to buy my kid pets but it just had to wait until doggy safety training had taken place with a trainer for several months and kid had demonstrated mastery of the critical components.
That was very difficult training to arrange, by the way. Kids are going to be around dogs in this society, even if the dog isn’t in the home. I don’t understand why this kind of training isn’t more common place:

  16. Steph says:

I agree with everyone so far. His biting is a real issue that needs to be taken seriously by the right people. As someone who is not in a position to do anything about it, I’m still laughing at his targets. However, I’m also concerned about Commander. Is he in an unessisarily stressful environment? If so, I hope someone does right by him and finds a better place for him.

  17. SAS says:

Laws are obviously different where I am as this dog would have sadly been euthanised by this point- and everyone would consider the owners at fault for being so irresponsible.

It’s truly sickening about the situation with the secret service but let’s be fr, dogs do NOT only attack bad people. I feel for everyone in that workplace who is not MAGA and just trying to do their job and is potentially at risk of getting bitten by a freaking German Shepherd!

    • Eurydice says:

Yeah, I guess I’m a bit sensitive about this because I was attacked by a German Shepherd when I was 6 years old. And really, the dog may have just been trying to play, but it knocked me down and I ended up with a scar down my face that didn’t fully recede until high school, plus an aversion to big dogs.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

I have to side eye any suggestions that dogs are magical MAGA detectors. The reason for carefully training large aggressive dog breeds is precisely because dogs can be very unpredictable.

      • Bee (not THAT Bee) says:

The people need training too. Dogs do not jump straight from zero to biting. They give warnings. Ignoring the warnings is foolish. People are supposed to be the smart ones. Learn when a dog is saying “back off” and you won’t get bit. I bet the SS dudes are giving attitude to the dog.

  18. Amy says:

I am with Commander all the way. All the corrupt MAGA Secret Service need to go…NOW!

  19. Emily says:

Thank you for your service Commander Biden.

  20. Ameerah M says:

Commander is a good boi and is single-handedly investigating and then punishing sus SS Agents. He wants to know why those text messages on Jan 6th were deleted and he wants to know where each of them were on that day. And if he is not getting the correct answers …they get the CRONCH.

  21. Brenda says:

Kaiser, that was a very funny joke. Thank you.

As a side note, I would like to remind everyone that a bite that breaks the skin is serious. The mouth is a filthy place. If you are bitten by any human or animal, you should wash it out carefully and present to your healthcare provider for prophylactic antibiotic. Do not wait until it is nasty.

    • H says:

As someone who got bit (by a Border Collie) while at work, I agree. ANY bite that breaks the skin, you need to go to the ER. You need an updated tetanus shot and antibiotics, at the very least. In my case, because the dog did not have updated rabies, I had to IMMEDIATELY start the rabies vaccine. I’m sure Commander is up-to-date on his shots but let me tell you, that four course rabies shot schedule is not fun and very expensive (6K).

  22. Jessica says:

I am totally on Commander’s side. He’s not a magical MAGA detector but he is detecting these agents are bad apples. Dogs do it constantly. I have a pit bull, and he is a huge sweetheart, he loves people, loves to give kisses, just a cuddle bug. In the three years I’ve had him, he’s reacted ONCE to a man, and it was so out of character, I instantly paid attention. They pick up on cues we have no idea about, and I know my dog wants to keep me safe. Commander is the same way I bet.

  23. Incognito08 says:

Commander Biden appears to have a facial expression that says, “I will do it again too!”

  24. Myeh says:

    In dog we trust.

  25. Pamela says:

So funny this dog keeps biting people. People need to be more serious w their comments, not everybody in the secret service are MAGA. As a pitbull owner, I’m apalled by how easy people are joking about this. I cannot live in certain states bc there’s breed specific legislation against pitbulls & I keep saying it’s not the breed, it’s how you take care of your dog. German sheperds are considered nice family dogs & here you have one that keeps attacking people & yet here we are joking about it. It doesn’t make us more anti MAGA to joke about these issues & we don’t help the Bidens by not putting the responsability on them

    • Myeh says:

I don’t know PAMELA I could be wrong but I think putting the dog through more training is pretty responsible. Given that this is their second dog who is doing his job and the second dog in the WH who is only hostile towards ss agents only. As a dog owner doesn’t it sometimes make you wonder how you trust your own dogs instinct around you implicitly but may distrust your dogs instinct around certain people. What makes you trust the intent of say someone you don’t know as well more than your own dog’s reaction towards them?

      • Nanny to the Rescue says:

A PROPERLY trained dog wouldn’t just bite a mistrusted person who isn’t showing aggression. It would alert that something is wrong, either by barking and snarling or whatever it is trained to do. But no properly trained dog simply goes for a bite.

      • Pamela says:

I don’t know MYEH, as Nanny to the rescue said, properly trained dogs don’t go directly to the bite, they have other reactions. Police dogs are highly trained & they don’t directly attack people, they bark & show other signs that something is wrong. What this shows me is that you are not being objective about this bc these are the Bidens, I hate Trump, but if he had a dog in the white house that had the same issues, I’m sure everybody in this forum would be appalled. I don’t blame the dog for its problems, the last thing I want is a poor animal being put down, the responsability for the behaviour of the dogs is of the owners

      • Eurydice says:

@Pamela – I agree. And it’s a bit weird to me that people are more willing to believe Biden would be so careless as to surround himself with security he can’t trust, than that he has a misbehaving dog.

      • Myeh says:

@PAMELA dismissing my voice by calling me unobjective and then making a ton of assumptions about my ability to opine just because I must favor the Bidens shows your implicit bias. Usually not answering a question(I posited around how can you as a dog owner trust your dogs instinct around you and then not trust it’s reaction to a stranger in my earlier comment reply to you)- that’s a pretty big tell in addition to your biased assumptions that you have a mindset conditioned by privilege and devoid of logic that is inherently inequitable towards me. I wish you well. You may hate Trump and pride yourself on taking a tangent about legislation surrounding pit bulls but the second a person starts talking about responsibility while not being informed of the facts I know it’s futile to reason with them the same way it’s hard to have a discussion around privileged people who blather on about individual responsibility while living an accountability free lifestyle themselves. Btw the commenter’s below us talk about “biting” incidents not being actual bites. Since you hate Trump I would like to posit another few questions to you. If an organization is so compromised that they delete evidence pertaining to sedition and an insurrection designed to upend a democratic process like the certification of a presidential election result, and they know that the DOJ is probably looking over their records and they do or did have some ill intent, perhaps they’re nervous – Can they actually do their job? Dogs loyalty can’t be bought with money, power, influence, political affiliation or ideology. Who would you think would do a better job of protecting you say during another hypothetical insurrection? The organization that needs it’s employees vetted because they’re under investigation for their background or your dog?

      • Nanny to the Rescue says:

@Myeh, according to the article linked, the person was bitten by the dog and treated by medical personnel on the premises. So in this case “biting incident” literally means biting, not just snapping at the air as a warning.

      • Jojo says:

MYEH putting him through training doesn’t give him a pass to bite at his own discretion. He’s not trained to be a guard dog. He is being/was trained to be a family member. Biting, in this case, is the final stage of his specific reactivity. I feel bad that he’s being put in situations repeatedly that makes him feel scared. It’s irresponsible for the Bidens to put rescue German shepherds in this situation repeatedly. Lastly, the secret service is a massive agency with many functions. If the Bidens want a different team they can switch out to other highly qualified loyal individuals.

      • Pamela says:

MYEH you’re the one dismissing these incidents, didn’t you comment “In dogs we trust”, that shows your bias trying to imply that dogs are some magical MAGA detectors, any dog can attack & the dogs from the Bidens don’t have any magical powers. By the way those “biting accidents” includes a person being hospitalized. But hey, no one is at fault bc “in dogs we trust”. As I said, you wouldn’t be taking the same stance if this was the dog of Trump, your big argument of “it’s hard to have a discussion around privileged people who blather on about individual responsibility while living an accountability free lifestyle themselves” applies to the Bidens, any average Joe w a dog w 11 biting incidents would have the dog taken away from them by now.

    • Dawn says:

I don’t think it’s the least bit funny. Not the people being bit or the fact that this could end up with Commander being put down if it continues,

I do think it’s interesting that he only targets Secret Service agents, not because he’s necessarily a “MAGA detector,” but because I think he’s picking up on their more aggressive stance/energy.

I agree with the people saying that, sadly, he should probably be rehomed for his own sake. Maybe get the President a golden retriever, instead. One who is professionally trained beforehand.

  26. Lau says:

Dogs are the best judges of character. The Guardian had an article with messages from secret service agents saying he should be put down, they’re mad he’s doing a better job than them.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Dogs are not capable of judging character. That is not a thing in the doggy universe. Hitler had German Shepherds that seemed to love him. As far as we know they never bit him. Dogs react to certain stimuli which may seem totally benign from a human perspective. It is the responsibility of humans who keep dogs to train them consistently to follow commands and keep them under control at all times. People here should stop and consider how they would react to sharing a workplace with a dog which has such a lengthy history of aggression. Everyone has the right to a safe work environment. Even people who work for the secret service. I know many are just joking, but dog bites are not joke material imo. And, if the Bidens do not want their dog destroyed, they need to act on this immediately. As others have pointed out, Commander would have been put down if he belonged to any other family.

      • Lau says:

You can’t really take hitler as an example as we don’t even know if he wasn’t one of those person who just beat their animals into behaving well. I meant that they are good judge of character in the sense that these kind of attacks seem more of a response to someone they perceived as not well-intentioned. But I agree that they could at least have him wear a muzzle and take training classes (which often work on dogs).

      • Satish More says:

        Brassy rebel & Eurydice

THANK YOU for being voices of sanity. I hate to say it, but the way some of the people here are shrugging & excusing a large, powerful & poorly trained dog who is under no one’s control trying to bite people with abandon, I am reminded of the way MAGAs shrug about Trumps hundred criminal charges and dozens of lawsuits.

    • Grant says:

This is nonsense. Dogs are animals, not mediums or empaths. They don’t bite someone because they “perceive” them to be ill-intentioned, they bite someone because they have aggressive instincts that have likely been exacerbated by poor training and/or abuse. And this may be controversial, but some dogs are just aggressive because they’ve been systematically bred that way. This anthropomorphization of animals has to stop.

  27. Grant says:

I’m not a fan of aggressive dogs. While I appreciate the light-heartedness, I don’t think a dog with a ten-plus person bite history should be celebrated.

    • AS says:

I totally agree. I have fear of dogs and I carry a big stick when I go for walks in case I get attacked. A dog that keeps on biting people is a menace to society. Only dog owners who have blinders on would defend this sort of behavior.

  28. Rnot says:

This cannot be allowed to happen again. 11 documented bites represents serious negligence as both employers and dog-owners. It’s gross to assume that the victims deserved it. It’s not funny. Commander needs to be removed from the White House immediately. He’s a legal and political liability.

  29. Satish More says:

I remember the last time Commander Biden’s bad behavior was discussed here, some people were suggesting that the Secret Service person he bit must have had “bad intentions” or meant the Bidens harm or something. I was very surprised by the irrationality of these arguments.
And now that the dog has bit yet ANOTHER person, I hope people are FINALLY realizing that a woeful lack of training is likely the culprit.

    • Dawn says:

They hired a professional trainer after one of the earlier incidents. So I do think they attempted to train Commander. Perhaps he just isn’t temperamentally suited to be in such a busy, high-stress environment. Not every dog can be successfully trained to live in a place like the White House.

  30. Satish More says:

Many years ago I adopted a puppy that I was told was a lab mix. Little did I know it was mixed with a great Dane! As he got bigger and bigger and BIGGER and stronger, and harder to control, I finally had to hire a trainer.

    I’ll never forget, I told the trainer that my dog was simply TOO big and TOO strong for me, that I was afraid I couldn’t keep him. And he said;

“Little old ladies control horses. YOU can control your dog.”

And he was right. It was simply a matter of me being DISCIPLINED and CONSISTENT with his training. Training a dog is also about training YOU.

  31. Bad Janet says:

The optics on this are really, really bad.

I wouldn’t put it past absolutely bats*** people to provoke the dog into biting them just for a headline – I never would have believed it years ago, but EVERYTHING has changed since 2015. But I think its more likely the dog is distressed (as I would be, living in the White House). Well trained dogs usually won’t do damage like that even if they’re provoked, unless they’re in fear for their life or their owners’ lives. German shepherds are some of the smartest and most trainable dogs out there, but they can be stubborn and reactive, too. I’ve had eight different kinds of dogs and the only kind that had ever bitten someone unprovoked was my German shepherd, who is a neurotic little stressball. She doesn’t get to go play with other people or pets because she hates everyone but about three people outside the family. Some dogs just need super low stress, calm environments. I can’t imagine the Biden dogs get that at the White House with all those people around, their owners leaving for work, or traveling back and forth every weekend.

They gotta do something – unless you are hired to work as an animal handler, your job description should never include being okay with being bitten by family pets. And it seems like a reasonable guess that the dog is showing stress.

    • JoJo says:

I agree completely. Major also had a hard time adjusting to the White House. I think it can be specifically hard for a sensitive or reactive GSD even with all the training in the world. I wouldn’t be able to keep my german shepherd if she bit every person that put her OR me in an uncomfortable or stressful situation. I feel bad for Commander too. He’s probably having a fear based response.

  32. Murphy says:

Biden could have folded and gotten a yellow lab years ago but he’s hasn’t. There’s a reason Commander is around.

  33. Nic919 says:

I think it’s important to note they use the term biting incident and not bites. So it’s quite possible that the incidents mean that he snapped at an SS agent but not an actual bite.

It is also interesting how Champ was perfectly fine with SS agents during the Obama years and this issue only came up in the post trump era of SS agents. We don’t really hear stories of either Major or Commander going after staffers either.

It is more than likely that some of the SS agents are approaching Biden in a way that makes Commander want to protect him.

This is also a story being politicized because when someone else exposed SS agents to a deadly virus very little workplace complaints were pushed in the media.

    • Satish More says:

      NIC919

I’m confused by your statement that Champ was fine during the Obama years. The dog in question is Commander, not Champ. Same breed, sure, but two different dogs. What does Commander’s (seeming) insecurity have to do with a previous dog’s behavior?? Again, they are two different dogs, and aside from the obvious fact that dogs have personalities as unique as humans, there are numerous factors that could be different regarding Champ’s environment, vs Commander’s.

And much like the last time Commander was discussed here, I find it very troubling that so many people here are just shrugging and making excuses for a large, powerful dog, who apparently is not under anyone’s control AND seems to be very insecure, trying to bite people. If this was Trumps dog, I think most of you would be hitting the roof in outrage.

What if someone who doesn’t know Commanders history brings a smaller dog around him? I had a small dog named Loki who was mauled to death by an off leash pit bull right in front of me, at the dog park, because his owner was in denial about the dog’s aggression towards other dogs (I later found out that my dog wasn’t the first dog this pit bull had mauled).

      • Nic919 says:

Champ was around secret service agents during the Obama years and no biting incidents happened. So maybe we should look at the facts and question why the dogs post trump secret service are having issues with the agents instead of just saying the Biden’s are bad dog owners. Also why haven’t we heard of the dog going after staff or visitors? If this is limited to agents then the agents are doing something to provoke this.

Also check the dates of the incidents, all except one happened between Oct 2022 and Jan 2023. Then there is a huge gap and something in September.

So this story is being twisted in a lot of ways and checking the details might explain a lot more.

      • Bad Janet says:

Well, I’m not saying they’re bad dog owners. I’m saying this particular dog probably needs to be rehomed.

Think of it in terms of what is best for the dog. I have been a volunteer for a dog rescue for 15 years and the first question on my mind for my fosters is always whether or not the DOG will be happy in the prospective family’s home. If Commander is so stressed out he is biting people – or snapping at people – that often, he needs a change of environment, stat.

Just like people, all dogs have different temperments, and surprisingly complex emotions, especially smart and empathic breeds. I have had a bunch of diverse personalities in my own dogs and my fosters and loved them all. Some are not suited to socialize well with other animals or people outside the family (and this is a more common issue with rescue dogs). It’s the owner’s responsibility to do what is right for the dog and meet them where they’re at, not try to shoehorn them into a personality or a temperment that they don’t have. That’s where it seems like the Bidens are making a mistake, at least from the outside. Let the poor dog go live in a less stressful environment.

I have a lot of respect for Biden; Invited for him and will again. But he is treating an animal like property and not a companion, and I’m not here for that.

  34. Jezzebeelzebub says:

I feel bad for Commander Biden- he must be so stressed out. Maybe he needs some doggie Valium or something to take the edge off, so he feels better. Also I understand that I should be aghast about this biting-ass dog in the WH. I think 7 or 8 years ago, I would have been. Today, though…. fuck it, I think it’s fine. That’s by far not even close to the most dangerous thing that’s has happened in the WH in the last 7 years, anyway. If you wanna worry about a dog that bites, look at Trump’s rabid ass and all his shitty friends. I wish Commander would eat them.

  35. ArtFossil says:

“Biting incidents” include snapping and nipping.

There were no biting incidents for the past nine months–from January 2 to September 25, 2023.

And yes, I believe Commander is being provoked by people with bad intentions.

    • Satish More says:

      Artfossil

Or perhaps as these “biting incidents” grow in numbers, the people around Commander are growing increasingly nervous (i know i would be). Dogs can sense nervousness and often react negatively. So rather than it being the case that the SS secretly want harm to come to the Bidens, it may just be that the biting incidents are exacerbating people’s discomfort around Commander, which is exacerbating his instinct to attack, which is then FURTHER exacerbating people’s nervousness, and so on and so forth

      • ArtFossil says:

You’re missing the point. The “biting incidents” aren’t growing in numbers. Rather, there were no biting incidents for almost 10 months this year. Almost ten months! Now there’s a new “biting incident.”

There is no doubt there are people around the President who wish to cause him harm–political or otherwise.

      • Satish More says:

        Artfossil

I am absolutely not missing the point. Those who are trying to justify or downplay a large powerful dog under no one’s control and biting multiple people with abandon because something something “maybe they’re MAGA!” are the one’s missing the point. Besides, is there any evidence that THESE ss agents are maga?? I would think that, seeing as how Biden is not an idiot, if he suspected that his ss agents were not loyal, he’d get new ones! He’s the PRESIDENT he can do that! But you would have people believe that Biden would keep SS agents around him for months and months who he sensed might be disloyal and that his remedy would be to just continue to let Commander try to bite them. Okey-doke, luv. 🤪👍
The actual point is that allowing this dog to keep attacking people, whoever they are, is reckless, illegal, dangerous, stupid AND could prove to be very very expensive, if any of these agents decided to sue. That is the point.

    • Nanny to the Rescue says:

In the article it is clearly stated that the dog bit the person and that they were bitten and treated on the spot by medics. So it’s more serious than snapping or nipping.

      • Nic919 says:

One of the incidents was an actual bite requiring medical treatment. They are using the word incident because not all of them are bites. They would have said that if they were all bites.

Also that huge gap between Jan 2023 and sept 2023 suggests the training was working because 10 of the 11 incidents happened from Oct 2022 to early Jan 2023.

      • Nanny to the Rescue says:

If it was only working for 8 months, it wasn’t really working. He’s attacking again after a short while. If I were the Bidens, I’d at least get a muzzle for the dog.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

I don’t know where the idea arose that “biting incidents” are not actual bites. The term biting incidents is most likely used because there is more than one bite involved. For example, the person who required hospitalization was described as having been bitten on both the arm and the thigh. That is why they are not described as 11 bites but are called incidents instead. It may actually involve many more bites than 11.

  36. WithTheAmerican says:

Oops, I forgot my user name, sorry. I cleared cookies and cache. It’s WITH not for.

  37. MinorityReport says:

Um, I could be wrong, but aren’t dogs that bite people usually put down after the third offense? I’m genuinely asking. No, I don’t want to kill all the dogs. I’m just wondering if the First Dog is getting special treatment.

    • B says:

It seems like it’s really at the discretion of the local animal control handler for what they feel like enforcing.
A few townhomes back there was a woman with a pit who also liked to leave the door wide open and one day the pit ran out snarling and trying to bite and fortunately the mister had a piece of wood he could block with for like 5 whole minutes.
animal control did zero and the yeotch kept leaving her door wide open. zero changed.

  38. Karma Kitty says:

There are other animals/pets in the WH as well. Young Commander hasn’t bothered them and there have been photos of him and the kitty napping together.
A dog that loves cats but doesn’t trust MAGA SS agents seems okay with me

    • Nic919 says:

There are a ton of other people in the WH too and yet we only hear about the agents. It’s pretty obvious they are doing something to trigger him.

And not all trumps hires have been fired. Which includes the ones who deleted evidence of texts during an actual insurrection.

      • Bee (not THAT Bee) says:

100% this. The agents are either openly going after/provoking the dog, or at the very least ignoring growling and other warning signs. Aren’t the agents supposed to be smart and the best trained people around? This totally smells like people are trying to get bitten in order to create bad press. I wonder what’s going on in their secret group chats.

  39. jferber says:

I think that they should open an investigation into every Secret Service agent the dog bit. He knows. Now let it all be proven.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Seriously?! Probably cause is needed to open an investigation into someone. Being bitten by a dog does not constitute probable cause in any context including this one. This would be victim blaming on steroids. Unless you’re joking, in which case, 😆🤣😂

  40. JoJo says:

I know this article is tongue in cheek but as a german shepherd owner I personally hate this kind of coverage. My girl is very in tune to other people and their emotions but she is trained to not bite people who have bad vibes. If she did, she could get euthanized. I rescued her and my landlord was willing to kick my whole family out because she had a bad impression of the breed itself. A dog can be specifically reactive. It’s the owner’s (maybe staff in this case) responsibility to help manage this. Hopefully they find a way to manage it, he’s still pretty young.

  41. Bad Janet says:

People. As a person who loves dogs, trains dogs, and fosters rescues: some of you are vastly overestimating their intuition.

Dogs can and do pick up on subtle things that people don’t. They can also be dumb as a post, and inconsistent. They have bad days, sweet days, moody days, happy days – just like you do. They have biases – just like you do. They can be calm and easygoing, or neurotic and grumpy. They can’t predict the future or tell good people from evil people at a glance. I’ve encountered racist dogs. I’m still rolling my eyes at a former co worker who told me her dog, who barked at me constantly, knew something was off about me because I am an atheist. My golden retriever and my pit bull have loved up on some people who turned out to be extremely gross. My GSD hates almost everyone for absolutely no reason and bites anyone who tries to pet her (so she stays home). Dogs are not good judges of character by sole virtue of being a dog.

They are amazing little creatures and I would never want to live my life without them (I’d still take the company of my neurotic and grumpy GSD cause I love her to bits), but they don’t have magical powers.

  42. Penguin says:

I find this “Commander only bites corrupt MAGA agents” really bonkers. Dogs don’t have the ability to distinguish bad people from good; they’re not lie detectors. Much more likely is that the busy environment of the White House isn’t compatible with this particular dog. As loved and cherished as I am sure he is, he needs to be sent to a quiet, stable environment for everyone’s benefit. If he’s already bitten people multiple times, it’s only a matter of time before a serious incident takes place.

  43. jferber says:

    Brassy Rebel, I was joking.
