Back in February, Trey Parker and Matt Stone decided to satirize the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in an episode of South Park. Because Stone and Parker still think misogyny is Peak Edgelord, they even referred to Meghan as “Harry’s bitch wife.” For months after the episode aired, British commentators were and are name-checking South Park as evidence that “America hates the Sussexes.” Camilla Tominey in particular was obsessed with the idea that South Park is representative of American popular opinion. Well, Tominey is going to froth at the mouth with glee now that Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy has satirized the Sussexes as well.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been given the ‘South Park’ treatment once again – this time by Seth McFarlane’s Family Guy. In an episode from the newest series of the cartoon satire which aired on Sunday, main character Peter Griffin compares himself to the royal couple, who stepped down as working members of the British Royal Family in 2020 to move to the US.
Sitting in a bar with his friends as he thinks of ways to retrieve money he is owed, Peter Griffin says he’ll ‘go it alone’ – just like the Sussexes. The scene then cuts away to the royal couple lounging by the pool in their swimwear while a butler waits on them to hand them ‘millions from Netflix’.
In the newest clip, the Sussexes are pictured enjoying fizzy drinks by their pool, while a quintessentially British-looking butler hands them a pay cheque. He tells the Duke: ‘Sir, your millions from Netflix for… no-one knows what.’
The cartoon Harry flippantly replies: ‘Put it with the rest of them’ in a British accent reminiscent of Dick Van Dyke’s cockney character in Mary Poppins. As the butler scuttles off, Meghan’s phone buzzes with a notification. She tells Harry: ‘Babe, time to do our daily $250,000 sponsored Instagram post for Del Taco.’
A despondent Harry, staring off into the distance, replies: ‘I shouldn’t have left the made-up nonsense’ – in an apparent dig at the British monarchy.
“Babe, time to do our daily $250,000 sponsored Instagram post for Del Taco.” God, I WISH Harry and Meghan were cashing in the way everyone seems to believe. Please, they’ve left so much money on the table! Anyway, it’s particularly hilarious to me that this aired in America on Sunday, it made absolutely no news in the American media, and it took a full 24-36 hours for the British media to catch up to it. Now they’ll use this as yet another example of “how America feels about the Sussexes.” You know how we feel? Most of us aren’t watching Family Guy. I will f–k with American Dad though, so wake me when that cartoon satirizes the Sussexes. Please, Roger would be obsessed with Harry.

That was being brutally mocked? It was just stupid coming soon after the news of Netflix doing better after H&M’s documentary and considering that they have only appeared on SM while doing charity work, not sponsoring.
I don’t get it.. The only one being “brutally mocked” in this scene is the british monarchy. The rest about Harry and Meghan is just a bad joke, everyone knows how famous these two are, but calling the monarchy “made-up nonsense” has to hurt in Salty Island. Now they know how America thinks about them. They’re just trying to distract everyone from this fact…
Apparently Seth knew that if he wants ANY attention for an old show that isn’t funny anymore, he better do some serious clout chasing, and using Harry & Meghan for clout chasing is the go-to for all D list losers. MacFarlane just entered Sharon Osbourne territory.
Pretty sure they recently made a documentary for Netflix that spotlights veterans. But let’s not let facts get in the way of the what is clearly such hilarious comedy🙄. Like this isn’t even funny? Lazy writing.
Family Guy is misogynist garbage and this isn’t even remotely funny. But what does anyone expect from Seth?
They have exactly two good clips: the one where Katie Holmes escapes from Tom Cruise, and the one where the dog is in the car and freaks out over seeing another dog in a car and says “f you, other dog!” That’s it!
yeah, that’s what I’m scratching my head at here. This isn’t even funny, but its Family Guy, so no surprise.
It seems to me like one of their cutaways that they made and have just been sitting on, waiting for an episode where they had the right space, timing wise, to fit it in. I think they do that a lot, based on how random and stupid some of the cutaways are – they just shove something in that they’ve had sitting around, and the reason they have something sitting around is because they know it wasn’t very good.
I just kind of feel that taking digs at the Sussex’s is lazy. And let’s just be real, Stewie would be all over Harry. I too only mess with American Dad. Roger would be so much part of the Sussex squad. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was already plotting some sort of scam to infiltrate GB and do harm to Charles, cus that’s how he does.
And I took it more as an insult to the Royal Family than an insult to Harry and Meghan. It seems to showcase the Sussexes doing very well for themselves.
It’s like being satired on SNL; it shows you arrived. Anyone checked for the Waleses? W & K are not worth bothering with. You know TOB and KopyKeen want that life.
Is it just me or does that not seem that bad? They also took a dig at the royal institution. Anyone who watches the Family Guy knows they hold absolutely NOTHING sacred. But, if they lampoon you, it means you’ve arrived.
It’s not just you. I almost think it was vaguely positive for the Sussexes? Like that’s what the BRF hates about them- they left and they don’t need their money?
Lol the Sussexes are part of the zeitgeist so people will talk about them. What I find amusing is the UK press using 2 cartoon episodes as proof a whole country hate Harry and Meghan while saying a country that has thousands who continuously protest and boo the monarchy means the monarchy has the UK’s full support.
I’m tired of these shows using Harry and Meghan for ratings. If you want to mock them at least use something that’s true. They’re not on any social media nor make any sponsored content. They’ve also produced content for Netflix and are doing good work with their foundation.
That south park episode was very damaging because it put their lives in danger. We had a bunch of lunatics planning to go to their house on a “word wide privacy tour”. I wish these people will leave them alone, i won’t be suprised if it’s lee Thompson stretching his slimy tentacles to these networks to air stuff like this
Mean satire is not that magic in the bottle folks are wishing for rn, it rubs the genie 🧞♂️ in the WRONG way.
For comedy, just off the cuff here, I’m thinking more humorous would be Baby princess/prince cousins on a visiting family holiday 👸 in Cali, learning to sew 🧵 🪡 maybe from their fashionable Auntie/Great Auntie, possibly some Barbie or baby doll clothing, using pounds of money so old the needle can’t take hold due to the wear or a pattern not working bc of the picture fading. Maybe a machine minting new money would be at the palace sewing room, idk. That shiz could be FUNNY.
I don’t know why everyone gets upset about these cartoons poking fun at Harry and Meghan. They poke fun of everyone. It’s sort of par for the course. I bet Harry and Meghan are laughing their heads off. They do everyone from Presidents to celebrities. No one goes unscathed. No ones picking on them it’s just what these cartoons do. Everyone needs to relax. I bet Harry would be the first one to laugh at himself. The British media takes these shows way to seriously. They are not an indictment of how “America” feels about the Sussexes. By the way Meghan looks great in her little black bikini to get the cartoon perfect they should have draped a tendril down her face 😉.
Harry is sitting in a pool with his gorgeous wife, getting handed checks by butlers and needs to take a photo – and wonders about leaving all that make
believe stuff.
Which is the royal family. It’s all one mass delusion that keeps them in power. Wild.
If you get satirized it just means you’ve become part of pop culture. For example, Emilia Clarke always cites the example of the Simpsons parody of GOT as the moment in which her family realized that she had become famous.
So this very mild parody just indicates how famous and part of pop culture the Sussexes are now.
I meant in a larger sense of sponsorship (like Anne’s son doing these commercials for milk). They haven’t even been sponsoring anything at all. This joke is completely useless.
No they haven’t and I wish these shows would crack jokes about the Sussexes that were applicable to the Sussexes. The great thing about shows like this is that they lampoon the narratives and mystic that surrounds celebrities. So when done right its quite hilarious but this just feels lazy. The only thing you could claim was a accurate spoof was them collecting checks and the joke about the monarchy being made up nonsense. Everything else was cliched jokes that could have been written about any celebrity with an instagram account which Harry and Meghan don’t have.
Sigh.. there could have been jokes about their wealth, the podcast, SPARE, their mysterious famous friends who are always offering them advice, even jokes about how silly it is people are going crazy at just the idea of Meghan joining instagram. Instead its mostly forgettable and inaccurate quips that make it seem like the show is talking about someone else.
If I’m the Daily Mail I’d be more offended that the Royal Family was described as made up nonsense. The Family Guy at least got that right. The British press tried to make something about Chris Rock’s comments about Meghan only to find out that he called the Royal Family racist and they dropped that line of attack as fast as they picked it up.
Everyone both famous and not has mocked and ridiculed the Kardashians yet the joke is on everyone as they are making bank.
The Sussexes are not universally beloved. In fact aside from Dolly Parton I struggle to think of few ppl who are nowadays. I’m sure The Sussexes themselves could care less if a cartoon makes fun of them.
Seems like it is more critical of their haters, who claim that Harry should go crawling back to his toxic family to be crapped on, instead of sitting poolside with his beautiful wife while people throw bags of money at him for simply existing.
Ummm, not Seth! He is a good egg. He has donated and supported the actors strike, he has criticised Trump… Okay, some times his humour is a bit hit and miss, but I won’t fault him for it
I didn’t realize Family Guy was still on the air or that people watched it… I never thought it was that funny, mildly amusing sure. And it is fun to watch Seth McFarlane pull out the voices in random interviews. But I can’t remember the last time I watched an episode all the way through.
I’m not entirely sure how this is them being “brutally mocked”, Harry and Meghan lounging at their pool being waited on by a butler handing them money isn’t them being mocked, if anything the royal family was mocked when they were referred to as “made up nonsense”, which is interesting that British “journalists” commenting on seem to completely disregard that.
Also, they ignore the fact that members of the Royal Family have been satirized on this show before, such as in the episode “Family Guy Viewer Mail No. 2” when the Griffins were British, and they, along with other Brtish people, yell at Prince Charles as he goes by in a carriage and they call him a “Wanker”, which Charles agrees with every time. That same episode parodies Diana’s car crash, but instead it involves the Queen being chased into a tunnel by Chris and Peter. There was also a brief cutaway one episode where Diana’s name appeared on a list of celebrities that Peter said he hated.
I’m also not sure why people are blaming Seth Macfarlane, sure he created the show, but he hasn’t written for Family Guy in many years, nor did he write this episode.
South Park and the Onion also satirized the murder of JonBenet Ramsey.
To some extent, emotionally deficient people are who they cater to.
They will have a disdain for people who acknowledge or value feelings.
Fundamentally, they are anti-social and, imo, demeaning.
One has to be grateful that they have been lucky enough not to end up in their cross-hairs.
Do people not get satire. They took the worst things that people think about them and made a joke. There are stupid people who actually believe what those ridiculous tabloids say and Family Guy made a joke about it. Harry and Meghan laying by the pool and getting checks handed to them. These guys have made fun of Obama, Biden even the Queen. Look how ridiculous the British press looks reporting on this on their news stations. No self respecting news station would do this if they made fun of Biden. Every weekend SNL makes fun of celebrities, Presidents and politicians all the time. You don’t see Harry and Meghan complaining. It’s become a right of passage. Come on relax people. It’s not the end of the world. I bet Harry is laughing his head off and probably telling Meg she looks great in her bikini😂🤣😂🤣
Apart from the awkward dialog, I don’t see any problem with this. To me, they’re mocking the media narrative that, by leaving the RF, H&M would be all alone and starving in the wilderness. Instead, they’re lounging poolside while the checks roll in. The “made-up nonsense” might pretend that making money is not quite nice, but I don’t think an American audience would sneer at a life like that
I also love how they pretend that show by Gary Janetti didn’t brutally mock all of them. Philip was basically a corpse on that show (which aired before he died).
Harry and Meghan have gotten money to do very little work. However, many, many celebrities do. As do people who inherit from their ultra-wealthy families. To many of us, Harry and Meghan seem pretty useless (as do the working royals, including Harry’s immediate (problematic as hell) family. It’s all nonsense, and Harry and Meghan are not perfect people living above it all — they are part of the ridiculousness, and that’s not negated by the fact that his family put her through emotional hell. That executive level job Harry was given when they first emigrated was not something he ‘earned,’ it was something he was given because of his name and the public attention on him. Hard to claim they’ve earned anything since marriage (so definitely not including Meghan’s money from Suits) in the sense of having worked for it rather than it coming because of their family drama. Hard for many of us (outside of the die-hard fans that populate this page) to see Harry and Meghan as deserving respect for their work or achievements — but that also doesn’t make them any worse than so many others, including the side of the family that they are pitted against but have loads in common with.
Sorry but I think this take is delusional. And “many people” think Trump won the election but guess what, they are wrong too. But carry on, there are none so blind……
Mary, I do not recall a single person here claiming that Harry “earned” his position at BetterUp. IIRC, it was always openly discussed that Harry’s celebrity got him that position, and the point of his position was to bring publicity to the company and help them achieve name recognition, which Harry certainly did. and I do recall some supposed employee of the company whining that Harry doesn’t show up at the office 40hrs/week. No shit, that’s not what he was hired for.
Worth is measured in many ways, but it’s always about what people are willing to pay for what they need.
Meghan has worked in the traditional way for all of her life before she met Harry. In the same way, Harry worked for many years in the army. This is one kind of worth.
Personal experience can be of worth to people, as in Harry’s relationship with BetterUp. He was a client, he believes in the product, he’s willing to help market it and the company sees value in his personal network.
Personal stories have value, as we see from all the streamers and publishers looking for content. Netflix and Random House saw the value and paid for it, but H&M did the work to bring those projects to fruition.
And even unpaid work has value, as we see from the charitable work of Archewell, Invictus, etc. Just because H&M aren’t punching a time clock for a weekly paycheck doesn’t mean they’re not working and accomplishing things.
lol, what? I worked in corporate world right after university, what companies need, especially in executive levels, is people with experience in dealing with issues, with people skills to complete a project from start to finish. Harry has been working on projects in “executive level” since very young age. He has set up multiple successful organizations to his name when working as royal, unlike his brother. He met people all over the world. People like him are priceless to any international company. That’s why the company value of Betterup skyrocketed after he joined. He has no sway in royal family, so no one can say he got the job because they want access to the royal family. He has name value because of what he achieved when he was working basically as a representative of UK as the royal family member.
If everything H&M brings to the table is because of their royalness, I don’t understand why no other member gets the same credible jobs, projects as them. Even the heirs’ projects weren’t as successful as Harry’s. You can’t appoint a person as a representative of a country due to the family he was born into, then say he shouldn’t get awarded with good jobs after he leaves, thanks to the experience he gained through the job he was given as a birth responsibility.
Meghan wrote the Bench and prepared a podcast series. Unless we are discounting arts work as “not work” Meghan most definitely did work since she was married.
And running Archwell is a job even if it’s a non profit. They are doing work in terms of promotion, and their presence is a part of that work. When they give speeches they know the issues and don’t sound like mannequin airheads.
And Invictus involves some significant work just as travelyst does.
Many jobs involve networking which may mean going to dinners or other events, but it is still “work”.
Neither of them simply go on IG and promote products, which is what family guy was trying to imply with their joke.
This reads like someone entirely unfamiliar with the concept of of business and client development, which is something many occupations require, even lawyers.
Seems to me they are making fun of royal lifestyles, and how royals get rich for no reason and don’t “earn” their money. But they HAD to use Harry and Meghan, because most Americans don’t know who any of the other royals are, now that Elizabeth is gone.
That was being brutally mocked? It was just stupid coming soon after the news of Netflix doing better after H&M’s documentary and considering that they have only appeared on SM while doing charity work, not sponsoring.
When family guy came out, I laughed until I cried at most of the episodes. That was easily 20 years ago.
They haven’t made me crack a smile in easily a decade plus.
I don’t watch it. I don’t know anyone who watches it on purpose. I’m assuming it’s still college drunk or high college kids.
Also as far as roasts go, this isn’t even a sun burn. They are name dropping them to try to be relevant.
Watch them ignore the ‘made up nonsense’ that characterises the windsor institution, just like they did the pegging wedding. Sigh.
@wannabefarmer
Exactly!!
Niche cartoons for adults,, clout-chasing the Sussexes. Sad.
This isn’t funny or remotely accurate. But Seth MacFarlane sucks, so no surprise.

I…..did not know Family Guy was still on air.
Came here to say this. ^^^
H and M used for ratings once again.
They make fun of everyone, it’s really not that serious.
This.
Oh, yes, aquarius64, others would give their right hand for being topics on SNL and such! Too bad – too boring for such attention.
Is it just me or does that not seem that bad? They also took a dig at the royal institution. Anyone who watches the Family Guy knows they hold absolutely NOTHING sacred. But, if they lampoon you, it means you’ve arrived.
That seemed pretty meh to me. It also referred to the monarchy as “made up nonsense” so I’m fine with it.
It’s not just you. I almost think it was vaguely positive for the Sussexes? Like that’s what the BRF hates about them- they left and they don’t need their money?

Honestly it’s worse for the BRF.
Harry is sitting in a pool with his gorgeous wife, getting handed checks by butlers and needs to take a photo – and wonders about leaving all that make

Harry and Meghan have made it which is what the press and the Palace didn’t want to happen. This is a win for them.
Unless they are actively good guys, I assume all comedians to be at least somewhat MAGA adjacent.
That instagram post “joke” comes out of nowhere, like they haven’t even done anything sponsored ? (I’m trying to remember, so sorry if I forgot one)
They don’t have social media.
Meghan looks pretty. Otherwise, yawn.
I thought so too. They make her cartoon character really cute.
ew. they made her cartoon look so disproportional. nothing like her at all. gross

Jimmy & Roslyn Carter, probably.

Meh! Harry and Meghan have been through way worse. Will and Kate wish Family Guy would satirise them.
Family Guy has satired them.
Just to add, the episode that Chuckles was being called a Wanker, QE2 was called A Bitch.
This depiction of H&M is just dumb. Satirizing the murder of a child is sick.
They make fun of everyone…. Get the hell over it.
Aww, I remember when me and my husband (then boyfriend/fiance) used to laugh our heads off at Family Guy…around 2004-2005’ish.
Apart from the awkward dialog, I don’t see any problem with this. To me, they’re mocking the media narrative that, by leaving the RF, H&M would be all alone and starving in the wilderness. Instead, they’re lounging poolside while the checks roll in. The “made-up nonsense” might pretend that making money is not quite nice, but I don’t think an American audience would sneer at a life like that
That’s pretty mild for Family Guy.
Msiam, hard agree
Well said.
LOL @Mary. Your observance of The Sussexes work ethic is absent of intelligence. But, you do you. F.I.N.E. IYKYK.
Meh. American Dad has always been the stronger of the McFarland shows. Yawn.
This is even tamer than South Park. Oh yes. Murikkkah hates the Sussexes soooo muchhhh *insert eye roll*
Lol funny
H&M are public figures and are not above being satirized or mocked.
Seems to me they are making fun of royal lifestyles, and how royals get rich for no reason and don’t “earn” their money. But they HAD to use Harry and Meghan, because most Americans don’t know who any of the other royals are, now that Elizabeth is gone.
Family Guy is still on?
The UK and Australia are totally Clueless of American pop culture 😆
