Vanessa Kirby wore Vivienne Westwood to the Napoleon premiere in London. This is such a great dress but I kind of wish her hair was different. [RCFA]

Did Vanessa get an eyebrow lift? I agree that her hairstyle should be different. Maybe all pulled back?
Ariana’s blonde is very harsh and her boyfriend is still unfortunate.
That’s the first thing I thought when I saw her face; something is different…
Maybe it’s the hairstyle/makeup combo, but she doesn’t look like she did just last year…
For sure, she definitely had an eye lift and brow lift. She had a hooded eye before. She’s beautiful before and after, but there’s no question she’s had work done.
Maybe if they used a warmer blonde and didn’t bleach her eyebrows Ari would look better?
Vanessa slays as a brunette. I remember seeing her when we filmed The Crown S1 and her eyes and her skin just *pop* I think blonde hair drains her terribly. I’m not even going to attempt to sugarcoat that statement
I don’t think she had work done – I think her make up + the lighting are just off here.
Vanessa looks amazing. Her makeup is perfect, the fit of the dress is perfect.
She is gorgeous and that dress! She looks so long and statuesque. Amazing. That IKEA ad is hilarious. I swear high end designers / artists just want to see what they can get rich people to spend tons of money on.
First impression was wow! Second is how uncomfortable that must be for the wearer: the feeling that you’re about to slip out on the right, and even the left shoulder looks as though it could slip down because it has been thrown wide to create balance to the right. But that’s Westwood; she was all for building onto the body and enabling cloth to build support through draping and winding.
At first it stood out that VK looked kind of uncomfortable, which makes sense given what the structure of the dress seems to be.
But then I realized in the picture of the 3 of them, none of them looked even close to being pleased to be there, all 3 look over it and a bit put out. Not sure what’s going on there but it’s not making me want to see their movie.
They look like they all had bad oysters for lunch and are just trying to make it through the evening.
2 things- Vanessa Kirby s make up person did her dirty blend people blend and she looks better as a brunette.
That blend is perfection lol.
See, to me it looks like she has a giant dirt streak running down the side of her face and that is all I can see. The dress IS perfection on her though
@Sara – that’s fine. The look itself is specific. I do makeup and so I get what the look is. And I think it’s stunning. Not all makeup is MEANT to look natural. Sometimes it literally is for a specific aesthetic. And to me the look is stunning. It’s editorial and smokey and perfection.
I think the make up is less about looking “pretty” and more about intentional structure, to match the essence of her dress, not in shape but in the idea of something structural. The loose hair one side also mirrors the shoulder strap on the other. Funnily enough it brings back a sweet memory of when one of our kids was littler and I allowed her to “finish off” my makeup before an evening out, which she was desperate to do. I was miles away, thinking she wasn’t doing much. She was actually putting gold shadow on my cheeks, but ever so lightly. It was pretty heavy by the time I gave myself a last look in the mirror. Total shocker. She was so pleased with herself that I kept it on and went with it. It was just dinner at someone else’s and all the other parents thought it was hilarious.
The make-up/blending is terrible. The left side of her face looks painfully swollen.
I have an aversion to corsetted dresses, so Westwood is always a pass for me,
As for Dolly, her interview is why people don’t judge her too harshly for the work she’s had done. She’s open about it, and unlike other celebrities, is not trying to call the public liars for noticing a difference, or implying that OTHER women need work done, but not *them* because *they* are soooo genetically superior. All it takes is honesty, and the public understands.
There are two links I’m interested in knowing about but can’t bring myself to click:
1. Does Travis Scott have anything to say that doesn’t come across as totally insincere or navel gazing
2. Why would any woman willingly participate in patriarchal monogamy? I’ve heard explanations like “I want to have a huge family/help raising kids/be part of community” all of which describe non-patriarchal polyamory.
Since we have the weekend to discuss these topics, just puttin’ them out there. 😉
I wonder about that too. What’s in it for the women? Why do they willingly enter into that type of arrangement? I suspect there’s some deep internalized misogyny at play, but it’s got to be more than that.
Probably obvious but should say “patriarchal polygamy.” I’m mystified by any choice to be in an unequal power balance, but specifically about the polygamy story.
@DeeSea – I agree about internalized misogyny.
“I’m mystified by any choice to be in an unequal power balance,”
That’s plain marriage for most women with children. They earn less outside the home and do way more unpaid labor inside the home.
I think the word you’re looking for is “polygyny”.
@twinfalls – It seems like that’s part of the justification for polygyny (thanks @Bisynaptic) at least according to Big Love, that multiple wives and mothers help each other, and some can have careers thanks to the support of sister wives. But of course polyamory or even communal living doesn’t require a patriarchal structure. I’m way too introverted to want to live in a commune/kibbutz type of setting, but I can see how those can be great options for raising children, less unbalanced than a typical nuclear family with the dynamic you described.
I LOVED the Billy Bob season of fargo- it was amazing.
I liked the Kirsten Dunst season.
The Ewan MacGregor season was so bad i quit midway through and therefore couldn’t even bring myself to watch the Chris Rock season.
I would re-watch that first season though- it really was GREAT.
Kristin and Jesse were terrific together. The definition of chemistry
Her eyebrows are ridiculous. Bushy eyebrows aren’t attractive or feminine.
Well that’s … AN opinion.
That is truly a bizarre comment. Do you live in the 90s?
I Hope snoop is giving up the smoke for his own reasons and not an underlying health issue.
My guess is that he’s about to launch an edible or vape line.
I left twitter as soon as musk took over because I think he’s just awful. But I was just a lurker with few followers so I wasn’t giving up much. Never regretted or looked back.
Regarding the Buzzfeed article: Las Vegas’ dark underbelly is DARK. I lost my best friend from high school to it. Brilliant woman with a masters degree and a sweet husband. Got into gambling and prescription drugs and was able to somehow refinance their home and gamble the equity away. He divorced her and she ended up addicted to heroin in seedy week by week converted motel to apartment place, dying of an overdose. It’s so sad and it’s a common story.
Oh God, that’s awful. I am so sorry that happened to your friend. I’ve only been to Vegas once, and it wasn’t to gamble. I’ve never felt any desire to gamble.. That makes me lucky, I now realize.
I once spent a weekend at the Riviera playing penny slots, drinking free wine, and saw a cheesy Neil Diamond impersonator show. It’s sort of a fun escape from reality but there is a creepiness to the whole thing that you could be sucked in a never leave. The escape from reality is intended to be intoxicating and addictive.
Oh that is so awful, I am so sorry about that.
GREAT dress. Everything else is bland and looks dirty. Such a glamorous dress needs to be paired with …more. Oh well, at least she got the dress part right.
Agreed. She looks greasy and dirty from the neck up. Whoever did her makeup must hate her.
Celebitchy, can you do an Oprah’s Favorite Things post? I would LOVE to hear your thoughts!
I think I need strapless or the other strap. I kind of like it.
Vanessa Kirby looks like a Romulan in a fantastic dress.
What happened to her face? Her hair?
TIL that Pajiba still exists! Truly surprised.
