Lady Gaga & Cyndi Lauper’s MAC Viva Glam ad: which is which?

I love seeing new ad campaigns almost as much as I love seeing new magazine covers. One of my absolute favorite things in the world is the September and March magazine issues – because not only is it a new magazine, but those are usually the issues with the new ad campaigns. Love. It! Anyway, I’m all over this new MAC Viva Glam ad. The MAC Viva Glam is used to promote the MAC AIDS Fund, which supports global AIDS charities and causes. Every cent of the Viva Glam lipsticks goes to the MAC AIDS Fund, and so far $135 to $150 million has been raised. With that kind of goodness, it’s not shocking that MAC gets some high-profile celebrities to promote the lipstick line in print ads around the world. Previous spokes models have included Fergie, Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliot.

So, the new ad: Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga, together at last. I kind of feel like this is bigger than Madonna and Lady Gaga. Probably because I just love Cyndi Lauper so much! The ad is for two new MAC shades – Viva Glam Gaga and Viva Glam Cyndi, which won’t be in stores until March of next year. But until then we can enjoy the ad – although it took me a second to figure out which one was Cyndi and which one was Gaga.

And the Photoshopped the hell out of Gaga’s thighs, yes? I mean, she’s slender and she has a nice figure, but her thighs don’t look like that.

Cyndi is killing me. I LOVE her.

In one other piece of Gaga news, she was chosen as one of Barbara Walters’ “Most Fascinating” people of 2009. Gaga actually sat down for a surprisingly boring interview with Barbara, and ABC Online has some of the highlights. Some of my favorite quotes? When asked how her parents reacted to her starting her career, singing half-naked in bars, Gaga says: “It wasn’t really so easy for my dad, especially in the beginning. I mean we didn’t talk for months after the first time he saw me play, and uh, he didn’t understand. And from a genuine, genuine place, my mother told me that he was afraid I was like mentally unstable.” Ah, Gaga… who would ever think that?

Oh, I love Lauper – love!
And I concur: GaGa and Lauper are a bigger and badder pairing than GaGa and Madonna.
Madonna does nothing for others out of her own pocket: tightwad poseur who raises money for her Malawi causes yet contributes extremely little in the way of funding. Cheap bitch.
But let’s focus on the energy and fun of Cyndi and GaGa together! Brava M.A.C., brava!

Lady Gaga looks good in the MAC ad and that is because you can’t see the full length of her noise.

  3. Alarmjaguar says:

    Love them both!

  4. Lenore says:

Energy, personality, fun…and the celebs are actually recognisable. Yep,knocks those Absolut ads into oblivion, don’t you think?

These two make such a perfect pair.

Throw Bernadette Peters into this photo and you have an insane high pitched set of triplets. Maybe they can take on Hef after the twins.

  6. Sumodo says:

Lady Lauper! Too cute! Cyndi Lauper has Cupie Doll looks at 56, so how cool is that?

  7. Emily says:

@Sumodo, Cyndi’s 56? Man, I don’t even look that good now, and I’m only 21. Oh well, yay for her. Let’s all hope that Madonna looks at her and realises that you can look hot in a leotard in your 50s without scaring small children.

  8. Obvious says:

@JUICEINLA i think you just became my hero for knowing who the wonderful Bernadette Peters is. Most people just give me a look when i mention how much i adore her.

  9. Kathie says:

Ahh Bernadette Peters Glam Goddess thanks for the reminder! Cyndy Lauper is the real deal as a person and Gaga’s interview might have been boring but it was also respectful and articulate.

How perfect for MAC, famous for drag queen makeup. Love them both, but they’re definitely female drag queen types.

I’ve tried to buy MAC makeup before, but gave up. Nothing they have looks NOT drag queeny. Just not for the natural look, that’s for sure.

  11. ButteryBuddha says:

@gg, Deffers not for the natural look! 🙂
I can tell when my sister has on her MAC makeup. I <3’d it though when I was a teen b/c it covered EVERYTHING up and made it so nice and smooth.
<3 Gaga and Cyndi. I swear “Time after Time” makes me cry!! LOL! Gaga looks pretty here! I hate it when she wears heavy makeup. I don’t think she is a bad looking girl without all the makeup. The “natural” look she sported in her “Bad Romance” video looked so good and then she had to mess it up and in the end and looked like a drag queen. But I get that it is for a a complete look. :/ LOL!

  12. Jag says:

Love them both! I so want Cyndi to put out a skincare line, or a tell-all book or something, because she is flawless.

i completely disagree about MAC being “queen” makeup and unnatural…while the counter artists have a tendency to hype it up the tinted moisturizer/foundation is fabulous…it gives you as much coverage as you need (it’s buildable w/o looking cakey). and don’t even get me started on the shadow selections. also if you haven’t already…try the fluid gel eyeliner (in the pot) in blacktrack. it takes a bit getting used to and a decently stiff brush (i use an angle) but nothing i’ve tried to date as a self confessed makeupwhore compares!

  14. Rob says:

cyndi and gaga together..two creative women and 2010 is gonna bring much attention to these ladies!

  15. Jefferson says:

    @gg

I don’t know what MAC products you’ve been buying but everything they have fits all types of people, not just draq queens. In fact, their credo is all ages all races all sexes and their products are created by makeup artists (which most do not have a lot of experience in drag) so either you’re basing your opinion on their visuals which are made to stand out, or you’re not asking for the right kind of product, because if you look at their shade range, yes they have a lot of color, but 75% are natural shades. oh and they do offer you lessons so if you want to soften your features so you don’t look like a drag queen. Just sayin.

    Yay for another Viva Glam!
