Telegraph: Queen Camilla is ‘practically ruling solo’ as the ‘last one standing’

Queen Camilla was pretty much the only senior royal out and about in the month of January. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh also did a handful of events (Edward was even abroad), but ever since King Charles and the Princess of Wales’s dual medical issues were revealed, it’s been all about Camilla. Camilla out and about, doing events. Camilla making sure to be seen visiting her husband repeatedly in the hospital. Camilla holding down the fort and giving updates about Charles’s condition, while mysteriously never being asked about Kate’s condition. Everything’s coming up Camilla! Which is the point of this latest Telegraph piece – it’s mostly a summary of previously reported, positive PR for Cam, but the framing of it is very “Camilla is the last one standing.” Some highlights:

Last woman standing: The King is recovering from hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate, the Princess of Wales is convalescing at home, and the Prince of Wales is focused on supporting his wife and taking care of their three children. That leaves just one woman standing: Queen Camilla, holding the fort… This means the 76-year-old Queen – who has been out and about every day this week – is practically ruling solo, with support from the other “women of Windsor,” the Princess Royal and the Duchess of Edinburgh.

A busy schedule?? The ever-capable Camilla has ploughed on with a busy schedule of public engagements, too. On Wednesday, she opened a new Maggie’s cancer support centre at the Royal Free Hospital in London. She promised to pass on well wishes for the King, who she said is “getting on” and “doing his best”.

Camilla’s shoes: The secret to smiling in the face of a never-ending list of engagements? Comfortable shoes. “Camillla has found a way to dress elegantly for royal engagements without sacrificing on comfort. You’d never see her in a spindly stiletto – all her shoes tend to have the same sensible low block heel which the late Queen Elizabeth relied on into her 90s,” says Bethan Holt, Telegraph Fashion Director and author of The Queen: 70 years of Majestic Style. “She favours British brands like Sole Bliss, Eliot Zed and Russell and Bromley whose shoes and boots are crafted to withstand long periods of standing while looking good, too,” Holt adds. “The Queen’s longtime dresser Jacqui Meakin works with a small circle of designers including Anna Valentine and Fiona Clare to source outfits which will make Camilla feel effortlessly good.

Stoicism & good humor: A double Royal health blow presents unprecedented circumstances. But the Queen’s approach is nothing different to her usual attitude of stoicism and hard work coupled with good humour. “She has a great twinkle, and it comes out very readily… it puts people at their ease very quickly,” said Lady Lansdowne, a close friend of the Queen’s, in a recent BBC documentary about the Coronation year.

A stiff drink: Indeed, as a voracious reader and the patron of several literary charities, relaxing with a good book (with or without a gin and tonic, said to be her favourite tipple) is one of the ways the Queen takes care of her own wellbeing when faced with a busy and demanding schedule. Another is riding or walking, either at Clarence House or the private Wiltshire residence she has owned since the mid-1990s – although it is doubtful there is much time for a countryside retreat at the moment.

Running the show: Not long ago, it would have seemed impossible that the Queen would be running the show solo. And yet she has proved she is a very safe pair of hands.

[From The Telegraph]

What’s also sort of funny about the whole “Camilla is holding down the fort/she’s the last woman standing” thing is that before January, it felt like Camilla was being slowly downgraded in importance. She didn’t do well during the Kenya trip, and the trip to France wasn’t a galloping success either. There were more and more stories about how she didn’t want to travel, how she and Charles were spending more time apart, and she was “overwhelmed” by the workload and expectations of being queen. I got the feeling that she missed having more downtime to day-drink at Ray Mill. But something about Charles and Kate’s medical issues has given Camilla a spring in her step. She’s always happiest when she’s playing some kind of angle and screwing over one of her enemies. Something to keep in mind.

The way the picture gets cropped on the home page for this article is hilarious! All I saw was Gary Oldman as Dracula LOL

    • Scooby Gang says:

      YES!! 😄😄😄😄😄

    • sparrow says:

That’s hilarious! She’s an odd woman – can be horrible, but I admire how she just gets on with it. She’s elderly, her husband’s elderly and recovering, and his son can’t even be bothered to get out to work.

      • Kingston says:

For chrissake everybody could “get on with it” if all you had to do was:

        wake up each morning;
        have a servant deliver a cuppa and your favorite shidtrags while youre in bed;
        have more servants clean and dress you and do your hair and make-up;
        have a breakfast made and spread for you, even tho you may or may not choose to eat;
        have other categories of servants tell you where youre gonna be transported to for the day and whom youre gonna be exchanging greetings with and whether or not you might be expected to cut a ribbon;
        have lunch and several drinks with your gossipping cronies and chat shidt about members of the family youve married into;
and thru it all, be sure to be papped smirking and smiling like the cat who ate the cream.

        Get on with it, indeed.

      • TigerMcQueen says:

@Kingston, everybody, apparently, except for the prince and princess of Wales, who couldn’t be bothered to “get on with it” most days before the mysterious abdominal surgery. And who have telegraphed they won’t “get on with it” after, even Will, who isn’t the supposed patient.

    • Beverley says:

      😝

    • MY3CENTS says:

I saw Cruella De Vil .

    • the Robinsons says:

This is the face of greed.

    • Giraffly says:

The wind knows who she is inside because it’s giving her Maggie Thatcher hair

      • SpankFD says:

Maggie Thatcher all the way. Someone only a greedy, bitter (and salty!) old fart could love.

  2. equality says:

Funny how there are only pix online of her riding when she was much younger and that she herself claimed last year that she no longer rides. She also looks stiff whenever there is a photo of her with horses. I don’t think she was ever that into it. They are just trying to compare her with QE, who did ride almost til the end, for good PR. Probably why they are making so much of the news that an older lady wears low-heeled shoes for comparison with QE.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

I heard that she has pretty bad osteoporosis which would explain a great deal, especially the fact that she no longer rides.

    • Tessa says:

She was very interested in fox hunting. She and charles would be regular participants at the hunts
While they still were married to others

      • equality says:

She still looks stiff around horses. I’m sure the grooms did all the work and all she had to do was ride. Of course, she liked fox hunting. It involves chasing down some unfortunate animal.

      • Thena says:

According to a biography of Charles, he had zero interest in riding until Camilla joined a fox hunt. Then he not only started riding again, but he got Anne to teach him jumping so he could participate in the hunt when Camilla was leading it.

    • Jaded says:

She has serious osteoporosis (her mother died from it) which is why she seems hunched over much of the time. Her spine is like chalk now. If she were to fall off a horse she’d break every bone in her body.

      • Thena says:

Camilla had a pretty bad ankle break a few years ago when she was walking and got her foot caught on something. She definitely slowed down after that.

      • ChattyCath says:

Oh dear. Exactly what my doctor said to me. I love horses. And cats. Maybe dogs, some of them.

  3. Andy Dufresne says:

All I can say is “YIKES!” to all of this!

  4. Yes she is certainly out there taking the reins. I personally think that she doesn’t mind because it’s all in the UK and not abroad were she would have to travel and I think she loves being able to troll Peg with is incredibly incompetent way he is handling whatever is wrong with Can’t. So she is multi tasking and killing two birds with one stone lol.

    • Megan says:

How is William incompetently caring for his wife? The nature of her surgery is such that she doesn’t want it made public. Should he go behind her back and release it to the media?

      • Kokiri says:

        You’re kidding, right?

        He’s disappeared. Completely.

What he should be doing, bare minimum, is double the engagements & answering questions about Kate with simple “thank you, she’s recovering, thank you all for your well wishes”

He gets £21 million a year. For doing… nothing.

Even if this is a mental health crisis, which is what I think this is, Willy simply disappearing is unacceptable.

      • BeanieBean says:

We don’t know what she wants. There was that ONE statement from KP & we already know that William has no compunction about signing someone else’s name (e.g., Harry’s) to an allegedly joint statement.

      • CC730 says:

No but saying she’s there, then not, they don’t visit family in hospital, then they do, she’s not fine for month, then she’s going to work in no time….
This is the PR team that turned a racist Kate into the victim, yet, their handling of the whole thing is amateurish at best but again they admitted to the press not knowing what’s going on… This is absolutely not about what surgery she had done and more about what truly happened because the whole thing is shady.
As for secrecy, they are taxpayers funded and they attacked Harry (a civilian, not funded), his wife and kids who wanted said secrecy for him and his family.
        You reap…

      • Kit says:

Will’s incompetent because he mismanaged this whole fiasco. He didn’t protect his wife. The obsfucation, the misdirection, the confusing narratives all made things worse. Lies upon lies upon lies.

Here’s the thing, they didn’t need to reveal the diagnosis. But living off the public dime means they DO need to explain and justify why both are taking such a long break.

These people have huge staff, with ridiculous amount of disposable time, with the biggest, most enviable press apparatus at their beck and call, and they bungled royally. That’s sheer incompetence. That’s letting your wife down. His laziness and plain mischiefs are letting everyone down.

      • ML says:

Megan, He does not need to mention his wife’s medical condition at all. However, do you really believe that this man has decided to take over child duties from the nannies, cleaning and cooking duties, as well as dashing to his wife’s side to wipe her brow and hold a glass so she can take sups of water??! His job, repeat job, is showing up to various events and causes and now he’s gone completely underground? While his elderly MIL is out there doing her job? This beggars belief.

      • Jaded says:

@Megan — he visited her once, if indeed she was still at the hospital, but it was likely because they needed his signature to release her and have her transferred or committed somewhere else (posh Swiss clinic I imagine). He’s not working AT ALL and has stated he won’t until Kate’s *better* (read “I can divorce her now”). He’s hiding something BIG, and I believe the press know because their black-out silence on the subject speaks volumes. William is not looking after the children and doing school runs, he’s running scared.

      • @Megan well since you have asked I see a few have responded so now I will tell how he is incompetent. He puts out that she has had abdominal surgery and then visits once. The kids have not visited and it seems her parents have not visited. So if he wanted to keep it simple just say she has had a procedure and will be back when able. Instead there is great mystery many questions and back pedaling to cover. This is the incompetence that I’m talking about. Hope it answers your question.

  5. Jais says:

She’s practically ruling solo? Ruling what? The battle of who gets the most front pages? Well, yeah she is ruling that. Love Kaiser’s point about Camilla being happiest when she’s screwing someone over. She sure does have a spring in her sensible shoe step🙄. Reminds me of how Will and Kate had the most energy when they were actively competing and plotting against Meghan and Harry.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Yes, “ruling” is an odd choice of words.

    • Nanea says:

There’s nothing there for her to rule on other than making headlines on frontpages. Strange bit of reporting there from The Torygraph.

Camz doesn’t have a constitutional* role as wife of the HoS, and they know it. Is it their way of signalling what everyone knows, that CIII doesn’t really have any power, unlike the Parker Bowleses? That CIII does the PB family’s bidding?

What gets on my nerve: all this reporting about drinking, as if it’s NBD, when everyone should know by now how bad for one’s health even one drink per day is? No matter if it’s about cancer (mouth, stomach), cirrhosis, cognitive decline. What’s worse: regular consumption of alcohol is harmful to bone health.

      * I’m aware that the UK doesn’t have a written constitution.

  6. Harla A Brazen Hussy says:

It is interesting that Camilla is doing more engagements during this royal medical crisis, than we’ve ever seen her do before. I predict that once Charles is back “working”, Camilla will quickly return to her normal schedule of 1 engagement a week.

    • Chloe says:

Not really. Camilla hates competition and kate is now well out of her way. If there ever was a time to be extra seen, it would be now.

    • Becks1 says:

this is the best time for camilla to get the attention from the RRs. She’s also presenting a marked contrast to William, who is using Kate’s recovery as an excuse to not work.

  7. Maxine Branch says:

Bless those folks if this is the face of their Monarchy. You get what you deserve

  8. Pinkosaurus says:

Nothing gives her a spark more than turning the knife she has in someone’s back. Since it’s pointing out the worthlessness of Doolittle and Angry Bill, I’ll allow it.

  9. Chantal1 says:

Well played Camilla. She even has the BM calling her The Queen. Forget about the incompetent and lazy heir, C-Rex had better watch out for the lazy, competent and scheming queen consort! She’s been broadly smiling a lot for someone who’s elderly husband is/was hospitalized.

    • WiththeAmerican says:

Charles doesn’t mind being upstaged and even publicly run by Camilla. Lucky for her, since she has been in charge of him from day one. Bad luck for his first wife and children.

  10. Brassy Rebel says:

Here I am, still waiting for Kate to get “settled” so William can do some work.

  11. Amy Bee says:

Camilla sees this as an opportunity to come out of the shadow of Charles and Waleses. This is what she has always wanted.

  12. Harper says:

I mean, I’d smile too if I knew I was showing up His Royal Laziness. I am eagerly awaiting the day that her son does a solo appearance on behalf of the crown. If that doesn’t bring Burger King back to the surface then maybe we start thinking Kate’s surgery is cover for wherever William is now.

    • equality says:

Well, her ex has already represented the crown at the funeral of John-Bowes Lyon. If APB can do it, why not his son?

      • BQM says:

That’s standard stuff though. Royals send non royal representatives all the time. Plus John BL was APB’s first cousin and he was already going.

I don’t care if her relatives go with her to things. They’re never going to be paid out of the Sovereign Grant and they *are* her family. I’ll just think when the press says nothing, how they melted down over Doria going to an event with Meghan. Hypocrisy at its finest.

  13. Libra says:

Talk about unintended consequences!! William thought that his absence would create sympathy . Instead, it left a job opening and Cammy stepped right in!!

  14. Lurker25 says:

You guys, I’ve made this comment before – the writers on the TV show “The Windsors” have some crazy inner source. That show has been depicting Camilla as a ruthless, Machiavellian schemer who wanted the crown, the power, the money, for herself and get Parker-Bowles bloodline YEARS ago. Back when “princess consort” and “doesn’t like the spotlight” were the accepted descriptions of the day.

“rule solo”??! My god. She’s going to poison them all 😅

    • Harla A Brazen Hussy says:

I really miss that show!! I wish that it would have continued, so much material, it would’ve been golden!!

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

I said it yesterday and I’ll say it again – I feel like she’s got great-grandma Alice Keppel’s diary stashed somewhere and is following g-g-ma’s penned revenge plot. Alice was mistress to Edward VII, who is Chuck’s great-great grandpappy.

Or maybe the current two idiots are the last pair of idiots reincarnated. Either way I’m pretty sure the spirits of Queen Victoria and Queen Alexandra are not resting quietly. In fact, I hope they haunt the crap out of the Rottweiler. Diana on the other hand can stay watching over her boy and his fam in Montecito. She deserves peace.

    • MipMip says:

The actress who played Camilla passed away recently, which was upsetting and sad. She was SO GOOD as soapy Camilla.

When she passed I couldn’t help but put on the tinfoil tiara for a moment. I bet the real Camilla was relieved. Her depiction was probably a little too accurate.

They Windsors did a coronation special but I have yet to see it in the US.

Another fun fact I always like to point out: that actress, Haydn Gwynne, also played Susan Hussey on the Crown.

    • Becks1 says:

that show also had the weird storyline where Kate was in a coma with….ebola, I think? That’s not what’s happening now of course but I do keep coming back to that storyline of her in the hospital isolated.

      • MipMip says:

Oh yeah! Kate had Ebola and didn’t tell anyone 🤔. Then Camilla went and stole the limelight by charming the northern Englanders. That show is quite prescient.

    • Proud Mary says:

They say “don’t hate the player, love the game.” But this heffa’s game makes me shudder with a mixture of admiration and fear.

      • GoldenMom says:

Thank you for this comment…I am now determined to call her a heffa at every single opportunity. Wouldn’t it be fun to call her this TO HER FACE? I’d laugh…

      • Deering24 says:

Yeesh. She and GOT’s Cersei would either have a lot to talk about–or would destroy the planet trying to kill each other.

      • BQM says:

Cersei kinda sucked at the game though. I’d say more Olenna Tyrell.

      • Deering24 says:

BQM–agreed. Cersei wasn’t nearly stealth enough about racking up enemies–and she made too many fatal mistakes to play a true long game. Olenna, on the other hand…🤣😂😈

    • JaneS says:

      “Ruling” LOL
None of them do anything that matters.
Ruling went out with Henry VIII

    • JaneS says:

This! The character of Camilla kept saying “The house of Parker-Bowles”
      That actress was terrific ❤️

  15. Mslove says:

It’s so helpful for Camilla to step up for the country since Peg is busy scrubbing bedpans for his beloved wife.

  16. Margot says:

I thought the remarks about shoes, of all things, to be interesting…the ‘not one for pointy stilettos because she has long hours on her feet like the late-Queen’…a veiled critique, possible?

    • Leslie says:

I definitely interpreted this comment as a direct hit against Kate, who as we all know loves her sky-high stilettos. It’s interesting how the tables are slowly being turned against Saint Kate, who “never put a foot wrong” according to the sycophants. Camilla is obviously leading the orchestra, and her band of paparazzi are playing along.

      • Minority Report says:

The tide started turning in Kate late last summer. Slowly. A veiled criticism here or there, setting her up to take the blame for Sussexit, then lo and behold, Kate’s a royal racist, and then girlfriend disappeared off the face of the earth…

    • SarahCS says:

Oh 100% a critique with the implicit ‘I can be here for hours, not just wave my jazz hands and leave after 5 minutes then be done for the day’. They are coming for Buttons.

    • Magdalena says:

Perhaps they are hinting that KKKate had bunion surgery?

  17. Maddy says:

    “wasn’t a galloping success”

    LMAO.

    • leslie says:

Omg! So I wasn’t the only one who caught that! I chuckled. Good one Kaiser! Wish I could laugh like you which is adorable.

  18. PunkyMomma says:

Camilla does look like the cat that swallowed the canary—she’s enjoying every bit of this.

  19. Tessa says:

Camilla. Cannot rule. Charles is still working though now behind the scenes. She is not in line if succession.

    • Lurker25 says:

She went from sidepiece to “official girlfriend” to “wife” to “princess consort” to “Queen consort” to “Queen” full stop.

You really think she won’t “temporarily” step in?

      • Jaded says:

Yup. She doesn’t need to be in the line of succession because she’s a Councillor of State, so it would be logical for her to be part of the CoS group to work on behalf of the King should he become infirm.

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

@Tessa That’s a given, but in an age where the monarch has very little actual power, and the whole point of the monarch is “to be seen to be believed”, it’s *Camilla* who is the foremost face of the monarchy right now. Not any of the blood royals. And she has more influence on Chuck than anyone else. Which is not bueno.

You’d think the hardline monarchists would be more upset by that in the papers.

      • Eurydice says:

At the end of the day, I think monarchists care more that the monarchy continues to exist than they care about who the people are that represent it. Right now, Camilla is all they’ve got. But the situation isn’t so dire – Charles will be back in a couple of weeks.

  20. Joantastic says:

Seems like Cruella’s 60 yr plot is coming to fruition. Everything has been set in motion.

  21. Mamasan says:

All of it destroyed by the side piece. BWAHAHAHA!!!!!

    • Deering24 says:

Given the RF’s history, poetic justice is killer here. Fiction writers drink and drug because no one would believe them if they came up with this story…🙄

  22. MaryContrary says:

That phrase “safe pair of hands” just makes me stabby. I never see it anywhere irl except when someone like Ingrid Seward is trying to prop up some boring royal like Sophie or Camilla.

  23. Proud Mary says:

Haaaaaa: The trip to France wasn’t a “galloping success”. I see what you did there Kaiser

  24. Maxine Branch says:

Imagine this woman with her history being the face of your institution. The mighty have fallen to an all time low.

    • SarahCS says:

At this point it’s pretty much her or Andrew. Take your pick.

      • WiththeAmerican says:

I’d love to see a cartoonist put her face with Andrew’s on the pound notes and coins.

The Church of England headed by Camilla and Andrew! This is fine!

  25. Eurydice says:

Well somebody has to be seen as working, whatever that work might be. I think she’s scheming all the time, but also that Charles might have said, “Look, old horse…I mean, beloved…one of us has to be out there for the next few weeks and William is…where the hell is William?”

  26. Flamingo says:

What a photo, all she is missing is her Dalmation Coat…

  27. B says:

She’s massively unpopular and was definitely getting pushed to the back. Lol Charles and Kate being down for the count and Willy hiding somewhere has left her the only senior royal who can do public engagement and she is GLOWING.

I think Camilla thinks this is her moment BUT if history shows us anything its the Brit press would rather report on if the Sussex lawn is getting enough water than the Brit royals. I give it 2 engagements before the press put her pic in the bottom corner of the front page if she even makes it on to the front page.

  28. Lau says:

It’s so funny that William (who should be the one to take charge as the heir) is being pushed away but is just too lazy to do a damn thing about it. That idiot is doing so much for the rehabilitation of Camilla’s image.

  29. Tina says:

Last year when the story about the Duke of Westminster ‘snubbing’ H&M came out there was another story about how, years earlier, QEII wouldn’t let Charles and Camilla sit together at the wedding of the Duke’s sister. C&C were so mad about it that they didn’t go to the wedding (hopefully I’m remembering all of this correctly). Here we are years later…..she is Queen. She tormented Diana and helped get rid of her, helped push out Charles’ second son and his wife, waited out the Queen and Prince Phillip and now she’s sitting back while the first son and his wife are going through something and have disappeared. Its remarkable.

  30. Mary Pester says:

@TINA, yep, she’s is A PLAYER. She knows if your not seen your influence diminishes, and who is the only one being seen?? Yep it’s camzilla. As soon as waity (if waity) appears in public again, you can bet camzilla will find a way to grab the headlines.

  31. Kay says:

Did anybody notice at the event at BP for the doll house. The guy who dragged Lillibets name through the mud Robert Hardman. Standing next to Camilla , he’s doing her dirty work. Writing a book praising Charles also bad mouthing Harry and Meghan. I wouldn’t trust Camilla an inch. Whenever they talk about Camila a scheming witch comes to mind. she also has a Christmas lunch that had Pier Morgan and the vile Jeremy Clarkson.

    • Jais says:

I think I read that Hardman and maybe his daughter made a tiny little book to go into the doll house. Which would explain his presence. But yes, connections galore. Interesting that he’s close to Camilla and was pushing the queen being angry over Lilibet’s name. Camilla wants no peace for harry or his children. Or for William. Basically, she is doing Diana dirty even after her death. To the point of talking about a sweet little baby’s name. That story has Camilla and EY written all over it.

  32. Mary Pester says:

Message for @JADED @Jais, @brassyrebel, beanibean, rapunzel and all my other celebrity friends. I’m not bearing up to well at the moment, seems the spring forecast for my demise might have been right, still at least there are lots of daffodils and snowdrops. They are taking me back into hospital for a few days to try and clear a blockage, so wish me luck, and I will be thinking of you all and Kaiser, keep up the good work x

    • Bklne says:

Much love and hugs to you, Mary Pester!

      • antipodean says:

@Mary Pester, thinking good thoughts for you, and hope your hospital stay is quick and effective. Will miss your witty comments, but hope to see you back soon. Take good care of yourself, and sending virtual hugs.

Bless you Mary Pester!! Sending you love and all good wishes!!! ❤️❤️❤️

    • BeanieBean says:

😢 Oh, gosh, @MaryPester! I am glad, though, you’re getting to see & appreciate the daffodils and snowdrops. That is the essence of life. I wish you the very best of luck & peace. You’re in my thoughts & heart. 🪻💞

      • BeanieBean says:

Oh, and I wanted to add, @MaryPester, I know that flower is a crocus & not a daffodil! 😉 But crocuses have always been my harbinger of spring, and they always make me feel better when I spot the first ones after a long, cold winter. 🪻💗 Again, best of luck & peace.

    • Eurydice says:

Sending you love and luck from Boston!!

  33. Bklne says:

    Dear Evil Genius,

Congrats, we guess? (Emphasis on the “rats”)

Prince Andrew is still a credibly accused sexual predator. The US Dept of Justice Southern District of NY would still like to have a word about that.

    Sincerely,
    Literally Everyone

  34. AlexS says:

Charles and William should be thankful this isnt an couple hundred years ago. Camilla might have taken more permanent steps to became Queen and put her kids on the throne.

  35. Murphy says:

“Not long ago, it would have seemed impossible that the Queen would be running the show solo”

    What a sentence.

  36. QuiteContrary says:

Seriously, hide the Dalmatians. Camilla is on the prowl.

  37. BeanieBean says:

Oh, yay, sensible shoe stories. Is this what we’re in for?? It’s almost as though they don’t know how to write about women if they can’t write about their clothes & hair. 🙄😑

  38. Anonymous says:

Ruling over WHO exactly?? Her dogs?? Camilla rules over her terriers with an iron fist…..Not to mention they should trade out the scepter with a gin n tonic, don’t worry, Cammy won’t notice

  39. sparrow says:

Does anyone know where Sophie is? Surely this is her time to be properly involved as one of the seven.

    • May says:

LOL, my first response was but, but, what about Sophie! I thought she was one of the Royal family’s secret weapons. 😂

      • Christine says:

I really wonder what happens when Anne goes home at night. Does she have to spend half an hour screaming at a wall before she is able to shrug off her entirely incompetent family? QEII, Philip, and Diana all have to be spinning in their graves.

I suspect when Chuck goes, Anne’s first order of business is going to be retirement. There’s no way she’s working for her lazy nephew.

  40. tamsin says:

If none of the senior royals were seen for months on end, people might wonder why they’re needed. Camilla is “being seen to be believed” as per her late Majesty. It’s odd, that William is too lazy or too dim to realize that this is his opportunity to step in and be the face of the monarchy and show he is ready to take charge. Did I read that she has been doing an event or been photographed every day for a week? Camilla certainly rewarding and feeding her beasts and lapdogs well. The slimmed down monarchy means more money for fewer people- no more supporting the wider family.

    • Kingston says:

Bulliam is in anger management classes. The crisis involving kHATE is a perfect cover for protecting the monarchy by hiding the fact that the next in line is undergoing treatment as an in-patient at Rageaholics Anonymous.

      • Kate says:

You nailed it. He’s in time out for behaving badly. And you know for the royals , it’s bad when they tolerate, protect, and even embrace a person like Andrew.

It’s worse for the institution because this is the future king. You can have a F up and lazy king. You can’t have one who’s out of control though. Harder to clean the mess up.

  41. jill says:

Does anyone else thing she looks like that old pickled racist, Princess Michael of Kent, in the header pic? I swear, this whole family has a family tree that doesn’t fork.

  42. JaneS says:

These comments are cheering me up. Thanks, CBers.

Yup, if I was William I’d be eating all my meals at the local McDonalds for the next few weeks. LOL

As much as I dislike Cam, she sure has got the upper hand right now, doesn’t she?
Maybe the Govt. should ask her for advice on running the country…she certainly can Plot Longterm, no?

    • Kit says:

The only glitch with your suggestion is Cam is all about Cam. She can plot to outlast others and rule. But she doesn’t have the character, the DNA, to care for others that doesn’t directly benefit her. So she’s actually bad news for the people and the government. Look at what she did to the Windsors!

She’s a jinx, so no, please don’t foist her on us.

  43. Cassie says:

Hope all the schoolkids didn’t have nightmares from seeing a real life witch .

  44. Berkeleyfarm says:

Wow. Cams is definitely doing well in the PR war. KP has bungled it so many ways and she’s … not inclined to help out.

If W has been placed in Time Out, it’s by someone who has a credible way to enforce it. Otherwise we would be getting sooo many more “stories”.

  45. JR McGraw says:

This whole thing could’ve been the easiest win for Wills.

Dad’s out? Take over his engagements! Look like the dutiful son, the hardworking Duke AND the heir ready to take the reins!

Kate’s out? Visit her at the hospital, then take over her engagements! Look like the dutiful, loving husband, emphasize your wife’s work (like yours) is so urgent it can’t be halted, make the sentimental get teary seeing him play with children & harness the pity for the poor man with a sick wife who’s so bravely taking up the torch and carrying the family load!

He could’ve shored up goodwill for YEARS if he just acted the part for two months I swear. It’s shocking, SHOCKING to me that he can’t even go through the motions. All of the above is a no-brainer that a beginning PR assistant could game out in 30 minutes but instead, with all his staff and all their titles and training he just…disappears?

  46. bettyrose says:

WTAF is happing with the BRF right now? Chuck is out of commission with health problems. Cam is gleefully taking center stage. And Kate is missing? Here’s the thing I really don’t get. Wills is the heir. If the monarch is out of commission, shouldn’t the heir be stepping up and the QC taking direction from the heir? Or are we meant to believe that Wills is committed to Kate’s bedside until she’s recovered?

    • Tessa says:

Camilla would be Dowager queen if Charles passes on first. Wiliiam would be required to step up as monarch not camilla. Does the current king realize how bad this looks. William should take time to represent his father.

  47. Andrea says:

I swear the shoes bit is another dig at Kate, who only wears stilettos and has visibly fucked up feet.

  48. J.Ferber says:

But Charles is hoping Will fails and will do nothing to prop him up. He’s seen his rageaholic son gunning for his (Charles’) job and Charles is such a prick he WANTS William to fail, just as William wants Charles to fail. The conflicts, competition and hate in that family! So Camilla wins bc neither Will nor Charles will lift a finger to help each other or England. In addition to all their other faults, the Windsors are as unpatriotic AF.
