Toni Collette, who was in Little Miss Sunshine and played the less attractive sister to Cameron Diaz in In Her Shoes, has given birth to her first child, a baby girl.
The star and her husband, musician Dave Galafassi, welcomed Sage Florence Galafassi on Wednesday, January 9 in Sydney, a spokeswoman for Collette said.
It is the couple’s first child.
“Both mother and baby are very well and very happy,” the spokeswoman said.
Collette, 35, announced her pregnancy in July, saying she was “completely over the moon”.
Toni Collette is the most amazing actress, as good as Cate Blancheet and Nicole Kidman, but has never received their level of recognition outside of their shared home country, Australia. Toni has also released a successful album and toured in the early months of her pregnancy.
As far as celebrity names go, I was actually expecting this baby to have a by far more outlandish name, but Sage is uncommon enough. It will definitely raise a few eyebrows on the Australian playgrounds.
Another baby born this week is designer Stella McCartney’s third child with her partner Alasdhair Willis, chairman of a furniture company.
Beckett Robert Lee Willis was born on Tuesday morning in London and a spokesperson for McCartney has confirmed that mother and son are doing well. The new arrival joins brother Miller Alasdhair James, who was born in 2005, and sister Bailey Linda Olwyn Willis, who turned one in December.
Vogue reports that the designers fashion show will go ahead on February 28th in Paris, featuring her autumn/winter collection.
Congratulations to all the happy families.
Picture note by Celebitchy: Toni Collette is shown on 5/20/07 at the Cannes film festival.
