The Guardian is basically the only British newspaper regularly questioning what the hell is going on with the Windsors. It’s mostly being done by Guardian columnists, but still. Recently, the Guardian published an extremely accurate column about the Sussexes’ trip to Jamaica, and how Harry and Meghan really could have been Britain’s best ambassadors, mostly because Meghan is “soft power dynamite.” Especially in comparison to diplomatic “kryptonite” William and Kate. Late last year, as Omid Scobie’s Endgame was making waves and there was a new round of “royal racism” talk, Zoe Williams wrote a funny piece in the Guardian about how the Windsors are “simply not in the intellectual shape to fight” accusations of racism. Well, Williams is back with her take on Prince William’s extremely bad performance at the BAFTAs, an organization for which he has served as president for fourteen years.
Actors know how to pose: The photos – all those magnificent faces that only actors know how to make – the “I’m so surprised to have won on this completely unsurprising occasion” face; the “of course I don’t mind not winning, the winner who won is, by happy chance, much more important to me than myself” face; the knowing side-eye, the straight-down-the-lens candour, the beaming sincerity. These are faces only the pros can make perfect. If the rest of us tried any of them, we’d look like we just got caught shoplifting.
And then there’s William: And into this Bafta array, as its president, steps Prince William. This job was not really optional for him. The only time in the organisation’s history that it hasn’t been led by a member of the royal family is when it was Richard Attenborough, who is like royal-plus. William, grinning at the rising stars Phoebe Dynevor, Ayo Edebiri, Sophie Wilde and Mia McKenna-Bruce, hits the summit of his endearing awkwardness. In the great schism of the princes, in which all right-thinking Britons were supposed to pick a side, everyone who chose the elder and who was not motivated by fervour against the wokerati, misogynoir or keenly felt anti-Americanism was really responding to William’s self-consciousness.
William can’t even do the bare bones of the job: But it’s just so relatable. Which of us hasn’t smiled a little too widely, in anxiety, and then suddenly found in the moment that using all those muscles is surprisingly taxing, and then forgotten what we were going to say, and, oh, hell, now the terror is in our eyes, that’s not going to help, and now we’ve forgotten our name, all we can remember is that we had one job, for which we’ve been preparing all our lives, which is to be able to talk and smile, if not simultaneously, at least in quick succession?
Rictus grin formations: OK, that’s two jobs. But which of us hasn’t felt like that? A body language expert told me recently that King Charles is always playing with his cufflinks and Prince Harry is always buttoning the button that’s already buttoned. These are self-comforting moves to deal with social anxiety. But Prince William is off the scale, seeking comfort in rictus grin formations that most evolved humans don’t know how to activate any more, having last used them trying to make peace with a cheetah.
Yes, this was an entire column devoted to William’s awkwardness. He’s remarkably charisma-free and incapable of simply standing with a group of actors and making small talk. That’s it – he can’t do it. It reminds me a bit of when they sent Prince Edward and Sophie to the Royal Variety show and Sophie was incredibly rude to comedian Frank Skinner, who had simply donated his time for a good cause. William was blundering around at the BAFTAs, telling people he didn’t watch any of their films and suggesting that an actress had a lot of “fun” on a film where her character is raped. He’s just… deeply incapable.

So shady! I love the framing of “William is awkward just like us regular people” except he breaks out a terrifying rictus grin like a homicidal clown.
When I read the headline, I was sure they were laying the ground work for reasons why Wills isn’t good at this due to social anxiety and just making excuses for him, but after reading the article – I agree, very much the shade.
It’s the first time I’ve ever thought it but what a couple of others say here is true – William is actually very much like his boorish uncle Andrew.
So many words just to say Bulliam hasn’t got the range and never will.
It is not awkwardness, it’s unpreparedness…they seem to do elite, colonizer, and haughtiness very well..
And unprepared also includes not having capable, competent staff. For example, no one expects William to watch all the nominated movies. He doesn’t have to do that. What should be expected is that he receive briefing by his staff about the movies, the people he will be meeting, etc. He cannot even hire staff. That’s how bad at this he is.
I absolutely expect the President of the BAFTAs to watch all of the nominated films…What else does he have to do? He has an entire year to put one on his at-home cinema and enjoy. He doesn’t even need to take notes! The rest of us are paying w/e streaming service/movie ticket/online renting service to see these films, and he can do it for free. It’s his job, so he should do it.
@ SARAHLEE, not having competent staff is an excuse not a reason for Bulliam to be unprepared. William is 40 years old and has known since he was able to digest what his future held has been an awareness for Bulliam for decades. IF Bulliam was interested in applying himself for the decades of knowing and understanding what IS required of him, he would get off of his lazy ass and do the work. His mother wasn’t born knowing she would be queen but she certainly put in the work to actively support her new role as she deemed it was paramount. Bulliam has no excuse as he could and should have put in the work as this is his job. But he is perfectly content with winging it since his early days of life.
Hello @BothSidesNow! Believe you’ve been absent for a bit. We haven’t always agreed and that’s okay. Agree here. The staff (of pretty much anyplace) isn’t responsible for the Boss to do their job.lol The staff is responsible to do what they were asked to do. With William, it’s f*ckall. Don’t care. Even knowing the BAFTA’s happen every freakin’ year. A competent staff cannot carry for long with an Incompetent Boss. Been there, did it and the company spiraled downward. Over a decade ago. Gone now.
William and Kate are well matched in rictus grinning and general social cluelessness.
And jazz hands!
Wow, you would think allllll of that time spent preparing him to be FK would have included classes that help cover all of those glaring inadequacies…
You’re assuming Willy was willing to learn and didn’t throw a tantrum when asked to learn.
I’m voting tantrum happened, they gave up, and now we have… this.
Exactly. He was too busy bullying his brother.
This is person that was never held accountable to put in the work.
He never put in the work in school, in Uni, in his relationship, in his personal growth, in having a passion for arts or knowledge.
He never put in the work, there was always a shortcut or an excuse for him.
Well it’s massively backfired.
He made one statement they didn’t like, NOW, They do a hit piece. William has done notable things for decades but now they are going to write him up. Well why they are in the mood to take him down I hope they explain to us if the Middletons was really growing pot.
@Lauri, that was published before the statement. It isn’t a hit piece, it was written right after his BAFTA failure.
ONE statement? You might want to go back and research some other “gaffe” statements he has made. Just off the top of my head: Africans and having children, covid jokes, a remark about a foreign deliveryman.
And War in Europe being foreign, this recent one just before this one at the BAFTAs, being bored of racism and I’m sure a ton more. The fact that we just listed six or seven things off the top of our heads and I’m sure we missed a lot shows he is just not ready for primetime.
Richard Kay (!!) had a nice roundup of many of William’s gaffes in his column, as Kaiser pointed out. I had forgotten about the one where William rocked up to an anti-poaching conference having gone hunting in Spain the day before….
What did he say about foreign delivery men?
@Princessk He joked about an Uber driver bringing food to KP being put on the ground and frisked. The claim on Twitter was the driver was Muslim.
@PrincessK.
When Peg did a soccer broadcast, he had food delivered and the person (who just happened to have been a Brown man) that delivered it had to go through security, which included a pat down. Peg then went on to ‘joke’ about it when he returned with the food.
How about when William told a kid in front of his whole class that the cupcakes his mom made for him weren’t very good. That was just cruel and unthinking. He embarrassed a child, insulted the child’s mother, and proved he was an ingrate.
Insulting a mom who took the time to bake cupcakes for him is my personal favorite. Has anyone from the media tried to contact her for her reaction? People think he never puts a foot wrong because the media ignores such boorishness and fails to follow up with the people he insults. So many like the delivery driver!
In other words, the poor lad is just self-conscious. like the rest of us.
“William has done notable things for decades”
(Citation needed)
Notable as in things to criticize.
1. Joked about people taking COVID seriously 2. Shoved his brother into a dog dish 3. Identified with eggplant emojis 4. Showed up to an investiture drunk 5. Was caught on film high as a kite, dirty dancing in Verbier 6. Scared young children with his Giant Ant bald head 7. Obsessively fondled his scarf while smirking about his troll army attacking Meghan ETC. All notable.
Notable?
Or notorious.
He’s remarkably consistent at being horribly incapable at performing the “service” for which he receives an immeasurable amount of money for life.
He’s a dud. The UK is stuck with the dud brother that they pay for, & no matter the resources available or money spent, a dud he will remain.
And a cruel one, too.
Was one of the notable things he’s done swaying back and forth last week? Daydrinking or hungover? Or his huge gaffe at Baftas? I mean we’ve only seen him about 4 times this year.
The only notable things William has done is avoiding work. Oh, and punching his brother out in a blind rage, that’s a good one.
What about the Middletons growing pot?
What notable things?
Notable thing like insulting the king of Spain in Spain….Remember when Kan’t asked who the king of Spain was, answer from Will-do-nothing: don’t know and that they both stayed sitted disrespecting an actual reigning monarch. It’s the then french president that politely answer to dumb and dumber….
They probably all are very socially awkward. They do ( or are supposed to do) events with the general public, but those events are heavily staged managed and the people are supposed to show them deference. It doesn’t really lend itself to natural, non awkward conversations. If you couple that with someone who legitimately thinks that all the deference is justified, is lazy, intellectually incurious, and charmless…..well.
Yes, they are all very socially awkward, which is why Harry is the most popular because he like his mother isn’t socially awkward.
Yeah I think Harry like his mother didn’t have the competing thoughts of be sociable but also these people should show deference. He’s obviously very clear about the lineage of his family and the” importance” of the role but even as a kid he never struck me as the type that would ever think someone ” broke protocol ” when interacting with him, much like his mother. Which puts people at ease, which in turn would put you at ease. The ones that are awkward, also not discounting laziness, arrogance, and bigotry, are the ones they can’t get over thinking that they’re inherently better.
Extremely socially awkward here, know what helps? Putting in the work to develop skills. He has looked down his nose at what everyone calls bread and butter events. Dozens and dozens of those events, year in and year out, would have helped him develop social skills. I’m sure if anyone was interested enough to find Sophies first few recorded engagements and compare them to now you would see a remarkable difference because she has worked at it.
Also socially awkward. I had to work on it, and then I had a period of time when I didn’t have to get out there and meet people and now I’ve regressed. I have to re-learn!
I am also awkward, self conscious and full of social anxiety.
I also have a younger charming balding red headed brother who everyone loves along with his fantastic wife.
But I’ve done things like Acting classes and Public Speaking lessons just to get used to speaking in public. It’s never going to be easy for me but I can speak publicly and talk to strangers without being a complete disaster.
And I have no great resources or connections available to me. He has the whole world at his fingertips and has done nothing substantial with his life.
He doesn’t even have the sense enough to be ashamed of himself.
True @PrincessK. Except you can be socially awkward and still show interest in other people. It’s hard to explain. Harry & Diana are two people from the BaRF that had an actual interest in people that weren’t/aren’t royal adjacent. They liked real people and dislike the BM. They tried with the BM and gave up because the BM are arseholes.
My DH is a social person. Within meeting someone he can assess a commonality and talk about it at length. Doesn’t matter if it’s a male or female. It’s innate in him to find common ground. He has business degree. But, there are not personality degrees. It could have been his double major. Some people are just born with personality degrees. William is not one of them.
It’s hard to watch his awkwardness from a distance and I can’t imagine being in the same room. Those poor women!
It took me a while before it clicked with me that these women are all trained actresses at a professional event. William is really really really bad at this. And he has access to massive resources. If some of this is social anxiety, and at least some of this would be helped with better preparation, I don’t get why he doesn’t utilize these resources if only to feel more comfortable with himself. Arrogance and laziness aside, it stands out that he’s been allowed to wallow in his deficiencies, when getting some support would be a win all the way around. Did no one make him watch The King’s Speech?
great point! If it were social anxiety driving his behavior, he would have prepared comments and even small talk. It’s not like he’s coming across as awkward because he’s reciting his lines or being robotic–*that* is more consistent with being socially anxious.
This is why people should not be born into jobs.
They dont want them and arent good at them.
That is true. But, also you can get good at it by practice and training. The problem is, W&K aren’t natural at the job, but also too lazy to work on it.
I would add to that they lack self awareness to even know they need help/training/assitance.
Well, better, not necessarily good.
omg, this line – “Prince William is off the scale, seeking comfort in rictus grin formations that most evolved humans don’t know how to activate any more, having last used them trying to make peace with a cheetah” – has me in tears.
I think he feels awkward at events like the BAFTAs because most of the celebrities are not treating him like he’s been chosen by God to be the next head of state, and that’s something he demands from everyone, apparently even his SIL. And he doesn’t know how to act when he’s not being treated like that. Look at those faces on those actresses, they are not impressed by whatever he’s just said that he clearly thinks is hilarious.
I actually think he’s kind of a fascinating study in terms of environment and how someone is raised and how they’re treated by everyone around them. If you’ve never been told you’re wrong a day in your life, if you’ve never been held accountable for your actions, if you’re surrounded on a day to day basis by people who tell you you’re the GOAT….how can we ever expect that person to be even somewhat normal in settings outside that world?
The most direct comparison, of course, is Charles, and he’s certainly entitled and arrogant and feels superior to all – and yet he comes off as more relatable and engaging at events. Is that because he had more siblings? Because he wasn’t close to either of his parents?
These royals are never going to be “just like us” – but William takes it to a whole different level.
And for William to change, he’s going to have to admit to himself that everything he knows or was told growing up was wrong and that he isn’t special and doesn’t deserve special treatment for being born.
Doubt that will ever happen.
Charles is far more relatable than William, he has a sense of humour and can engage with people from all walks of life. Charles was very at home visiting black communities in Britain in a way that William never can.
So Charles is comfortable around people with Black ancestry…as long as they aren’t Meghan and his grandchildren?🤔
Remember when William hired a Black Woman to walk next to him during that scripted interchange with the press, where he got to say, “We are very much NOT a racist family.”
Charles can rise to the occasion when necessary. He was very kind and gracious to Doria at Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
Charles rose to the occasion at Meghan and Harry’s wedding because optics demanded it and with great effect as people still think this makes Charles a kind and good dad. People forget who was monarch then. QE2 was determined, given the splashy PR and international fervor, the wedding was going to happen come hell or high water. The wedding made the BRF relevant on the international stage. Look Charles was PoW then. He followed QE2.
As king, Charles……
Honestly, Charles and Meghan got along very well. He tends to enjoy being in the company of intelligent women, as long as they supplicate to him and do not unwittingly steal his spotlight like Diana did, without even trying. As well, Chuck has never liked his sons being more popular than him. Thus, when the media began to fawn over H&M, that rankled Chuck. Plus. we know from Spare that Chuck did not want to ‘pay’ for Meghan as Harry’s wife.
I suspect Camzilla’s meddling influence bts in some of Chuck’s reactions against Meg. In the beginning, Chuck’s staff attempted to gain him positive p.r. off of his on-the-surface, friendly relationship with Meg. Ineffectual, dithering Chuck’s biggest failures were in not protecting H&M from the tabloid onslaught, and in not stopping WanK and Camz from leaking against them.
Regarding H&M’s royal wedding, please remember that it was Charles who selected quite a bit of the music, and he also recommended the Kingdom Choir. It is important to recognize that Charles, in many ways, was practically serving as Regent bts from about 2017 forward. Charles taking over bts coincided with Philip’s retirement, Sir Christopher Geidt’s ouster, and with the Queen ceding power as she rapidly aged and succumbed to under-the-radar illness.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if everyone in the industry noted how they all looked down their noses at Meghan for being an actress. You don’t have to be friends with or know her to see that they have insulted your industry and think they’re better than you. Of course you wouldn’t want to give them deference after that.
I notice a lot of people remained firmly in their seats, ignoring William as he walked in. That’s gotta hurt. Don’t people ordinarily stand when royalty walks in?
And yes, that cheetah line was a thing of beauty!
Charles comes off better at these events because comes prepared, which William never does. At times, I think he’s even genuinely curious about the people he’s talking to or the things they’re doing. When he’s not, he does a good job pretending he is by asking informed questions about people and/or their work. If you watch him work a rope line, he’ll make self-deprecating quips around nervous people to put them at ease. This makes him seem human and relatable. Charles has gotten good at this because he’s spent 55 years doing bread-and-butter events and has learned through trial-and-error. Also, despite his arrogance and entitlement, he seems desperate to be *liked*, and that actually is relatable.
William has long refused to cut ribbons or open curtains to reveal plaques, and he doesn’t prepare for the events he does attend. And he has no intellectual curiosity whatsoever. His questions to people are unsophisticated, and the answers to them are things he should’ve known well before walking in the door. He’s never interested in knowing about the people he’s talking to, or in what they do. Everything is relates back to him, or back to George (“I’m also interested in saving lions because I would like to take George on safari someday.”) When William makes a “joke,” it’s because he’s resentful, mean, and passive-aggressive, so his “jokes” always target someone else. He’ll never learn to do better because he doesn’t think he has to. And he doesn’t care if anyone likes him, but he wants everyone to give him the reverence and respect he feels he deserves because he’s the heir, dammit!
For quite awhile I defended Charles believing how could he not be pround of Harry & Meghan. They made the BaRF look good. Don’t like wading back into those waters. Yet, I can’t argue. Chuck manages to look genuinely interested (unless it involves a nefarious pen) with people. William, who partied it in clubs, looks like he doesn’t know how to interact with people.
Where is Kate and how is her recovery going? Have the people that Party Pieces owe money to been paid back with the Middleton’s silence?
Is the guardian trying to portray him as a lovable goofball? That’s not gonna fly.
Just take out the one word “endearing” and it’s a hatchet job. Maybe she was adding a layer of sarcasm only Brits can see.
Definitely not! The Guardian is not a publication I would consider part of the RR. This article is a remarkable example of the British sense of humour
“The only time in the organisation’s history that it hasn’t been led by a member of the royal family is when it was Richard Attenborough”. Nope. Do some research. Easily found out that from 1966-1972 the Earl Mountbatten of Burma was president. He is related to the royals, but not royal.
Mountbatten was Queen Victoria’s great grandson. A cousin of the Queen and Prince Philip’s uncle. Not sure why he’s not royal.
A great-grandson is considered too far removed to count unless in the direct line. He is considered aristocracy.
He was born prince Louis of Battenberg. His father lost his German title and HSH in the 1917 Titles DeprivatIon Act
^^ This explains Mountbatten’s lifelong obsession with winning back royal prestige and power. Obviously, this is the chief motivation behind the Earl giving his nephew, Philip, the Mountbatten name and pushing for Philip to court the eager, infatuated young Princess Elizabeth.
What a great idea! If actors can fake emotions so can Prince William. He needs a really good team who are going to tell him what facial expressions to make at every social engagement he is going to attend. I believe that most of his time should be spent doing prep work for every occasion. William has to find staff who can polish him so he doesn’t look like a lazy fool.
This man is nearly 42 years of age and they’re explaining away his incompetence as if he’s some sort of 15-year old school boy. For those saying this is a hit piece, well, it’s not. They’re just doing what they always do by papering over the cracks every time he makes a fool of himself.
That’s what I think too. If there were any digs there, they were so gentle as to tickle the subject.
Wow they are just figuring out how inept he is now? I think it was out there for all to see but they were too busy trying to exile Harry. Now the spotlight is on and it is showing all the many problems.
I always thought William gave off “Andrew” perv vibes. An entitled asshole who doesn’t care about other people. The BAFTA pictures and reports show that Andy isn’t the only creeper in the family.
My husband, who doesn’t follow any of this, said the same when I showed him the photo. He also thinks William looks “just like his uncle, the r*pist.”
While I love the shady parts, equating his awkwardness as some sort of relatability bc we’ve all had awkward moments is just not working for me. Royals: they’re just like us! Painting him as a bumbling awkwardly relatable fool kind of undercuts the acidity. Pointing out his foolishness is always welcome though it could have held back on the whole haven’t we all related to that schtick.
This is my eternal problem with the Guardian they have to add that bumbling Hugh Grant in 90s aspect to criticism of the royals, and always manage to insert some snide hippie, granola, flower child descriptors into articles about the Sussexes. Just let criticism be full chested, and the same for defense.
See, I read that as irony or maybe actual sarcasm – “Royals, they’re just like us!” except that of course they’re nothing like “us” really.
It’s a fine line though. If they went full-on attack it would likely drum up sympathy for PW. IF they phrase it like “poor lad is awkward”, people turn around and think just awkward when he has had years to prepare and is THIS bad at the job.
Indeed. It’s a well thought way to express it.
William’s awkwardness is due to two things. 1. He does not prepare for any of his engagements. He does not do his homework and when he has to speak off the cuff he flubs it because he is ignorant about the topics. And 2. he isn’t curious or interested in other people.
For the Baftas he couldn’t be bothered to watch the movies. He had all the time in the world but he just…meh. At the ceremony, since he was unprepared he can’t discuss anything intelligently nor can he ask questions to help other people open up. He has no interest in anyone unless being near them makes him look popular (ex. Tom Cruise). He is so focused on himself that he tries to make himself look good through humor at an event that is not about him. The Baftas weren’t about him so he didn’t prepare and because he didn’t prepare he came off as a dull, awkward twit.
If he had been curious and interested about the actors and about the behind the scenes work he could have asked about that and it would have put the focus rightfully on the actors. But he isn’t curious or interested in other people, especially strangers.
William only cares about himself and about doing the least amount of work possible.
He’s lazy in every possible way. That laziness leads to lack of confidence. The lack of confidence leads to these awkward situations. Sadly, he’s never going to improve.
Spot on! And really, he only needs three or four questions in his repertoire to make people feel seen because he spends so little time in each conversation.
He can get by with “”what excited you about this role?” Or “how did this role compare with your past roles?” Those two comes easily off the top of my head. His new secretary could even practice those questions with him.
Another thinly disguised attempt to humanize I-Robot Will. The shade was quite funny tho as she fully detailed his awkwardness.
I’m shocked that she acknowledged racism and anti Americanism as the reasons some Britons sided with Will in his one sided battle against Harry. Hadn’t heard the term “wokerati” before. Congrats racist white people. You have co-opted, perverted and colonized “woke” but you’re the only ones still using it and sounding more and more stupid when you do. I’m also genuinely surprised she used the word “misogynoir” and that she appears to know its meaning. Still, its interesting that the BM are even talking about his inadequacies.
Well said! @Chantal
This is where we see how Kate has been missed. Before, it was Kate with the “rictus grin formations” and Will could hide behind (or stride ahead) with a glum look on his face while she guffawed and waved her hands around. She was literally carrying all the social weight – maybe not very well, but at least she was doing it.
That’s William in a nutshell. He also blamed Kate for his inability to be taken seriously as a global statesman, because she was unserious. It’s why he banned her from his NYC Email Tour. It’s why she was benched for Keenshot. But he also hates when Kate’s there because he wants to be the center of attention. Now he doesn’t have Kate to hide behind and he is more exposed than he ever has been. Harry succeeding puts William’s inadequacies in even starker focus.
Exactly. Rictus grin formations are traditionally Kate’s specialty. This feels like it written about Kate and shelved for some reason but dragged back out this week. Do a few search and replaces inserting William’s name instead of hers and voila! Timely column about the current awkward royal.
Maybe Kate scammed us all with this health crisis which makes her untouchable gossip-wise, leaving the Royal Oaf to bear the glare of the spotlight. Are there bookies taking bets on how long before he implodes and abdicates now that he’s left with no buffers?
Did they argue and the final sentence was “You don’t need me? Let’s see how well you do on your own” and voila no Kate, no Middleton gossip, no Uncle Gary distraction just William twisting in the wind
“Maybe Kate scammed us all with this health crisis which makes her untouchable gossip-wise, leaving the Royal Oaf to bear the glare of the spotlight.”
You know, maybe she’s pulled a Sleeping With the Enemy thing where she’s actually disappeared voluntarily, leaving TF and her decidedly-unbeloved hubby to face the music. 🤣 👀That would explain a lot, especially why the palaces are being so bad at handling this… They really have no idea where Kate is.
The thing is a person off the street given 40+ years of training and at least 10 years of “full time” “work” would be way better at the job. We would also expect better of them. If this was your coworker you would be rolling your eyes saying dudes been her for years and he can’t make small chit chat about movies. At even 10 meetings a year most people would be better at meeting 10 then meeting 1. Yet will has not gained ANY improvement.
I’ve been to a walkabout with Edward at my job and he was fine. It was useless but he could make quick pleasant superficial chit chat. He’s done it enough that while he may not have ANY charisma or personality but he can get thru a low level unmemorable interaction. (Sophie came off as a bit dumb and lacking knowledge of pure basics and blanked enough that by the end the group had to talk about the weather. I’m sure edward is just as ignorant but he masked it way better). That’s all that’s expected at these events. Plus a few non hyena pics and yet William can’t cross that extremely low bar. I’ve had photographers at extremely small local charity events and while I’m not photogenic and I have no experience I don’t look this weird. In fact most regular people don’t. You can usually find at least 1 good photo. And yet again a man that gets so much financial and social capital for his “job” that he’s been doing for years can’t do the same. The emperor is wearing the most butt ugly SHEIN fast fashion and we are expected to ouuuu and awwwee and it drives me crazy.
Edward can be terrible, too. Remember him telling the Black transit worker to step back from the queen — and laying a hand on the worker?
Harry aside, the royal family is a bunch of racist social misfits who don’t deign to do the work required to act like human beings.
“The emperor is wearing the most butt ugly SHEIN fast fashion and we are expected to ouuuu and awwwee and it drives me crazy.”
@Susie – that’s chef’s kiss 🤣
Where IS Kate?
After Captain Incadescent, Captain Incapable.
and then Captain Imbecile
Plot twist : he’s been Captain Imbecile all along !
Haven’t read the article yet but that header photo reminds me of Alien 😳
“How dare you?!?”
-the Chestburster Community, probably
His awkwardness is more pronounced when he has knows he has no right being there. He went unprepared and uninterested in the actors and was solely focused on winning the PR game over his brother.
@Amy bee; does he have enough self awareness to even understand when he has no right to be there? He is the POW which entitles him to full access wherever he wants, he believes.
Kate, if your still on this planet I owe you an apology, now don’t let it go to your head. I still think your a vain air headed, bewigged BCH of the highest order and a racist one to boot, BUT, I didn’t realise that your sole purpose for the monarchy was to grin, tip your head to one side, be permanently festooned in buttons and JAZZ hands, yep those bloody jazz hands, to keep people from looking to closely at your husband. Well, sorry but you will be glad to know people have realised your missing, but more importantly, the press are starting to realise that YOU TO are a human shield, just like Harry., shame but you waited 10 years for it!
Very good point. To take it to the next step, William has been abusive and jealous of the two people whose entire being was devoted to shielding him from the world.
So he’s ungrateful and ignorant about his own shortcomings, as well as bitter and violent.
Yes, indeed. The press knows things they can’t say outright. When they wrote that Kate is a “steadying influence” for William, we were all “Oh, that’s just more embiggening from Carole.” But maybe they meant William’s a total loose cannon and it’s Kate’s shield that makes him look steady.
@marypester
I too wonder if Kate is still on this earth but that’s another discussion.
I agree that Kate’s purpose was to play human shield. To help give William the image of a solid family man. That’s the only “steadying influence” she has had on him. She’s just cover. I think the real William is rage filled, abusive, mentally unbalanced, promiscuous man who swings both ways, and deeply incurious, lazy and stupid. And I believe Kate put up with all of it to become Queen because that’s what her mother beat into her head since birth.
Now both of Willy’s shields are gone and people are starting to notice and remark on his true character.
Mary Pester, good point. I can see KHate being part of making him look like a family man, but you would think that she would have gotten better at engagements, too. She hasn’t. It would be interesting to have a body language expert explain how the two of them differ from each other. I really wonder if there would be any differences.
You can’t polish a turd.
Hello everyone
I have been long time lurking on this website. Many people here are very smart and funny! I think Bill might have a personality disorder or brain injury? Billie reminds me of King Edward 8. Both men’s birthdays are two days apart. They were born under the sign of cancer and their moon signs are are water signs.
@pisces rising
I’ve been saying that for a while. He had a traumatic brain injury to his frontal lobe when he was 8 years old. He was hit in the head with a golf club and it fractured his skull requiring surgery.
(Per Chat GPT)
The frontal lobe is a critical part of the brain, playing key roles in various important functions. Its main purposes include:
1. Motor Function: It controls important voluntary muscle movements through the primary motor cortex.
2. Problem Solving and Decision Making: The frontal lobe is essential for cognitive skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, and planning.
3. Memory and Attention: It is involved in tasks that require attention, short-term memory, and working memory.
4. Impulse Control and Social Behavior: The frontal lobe regulates impulse control, social interaction, and understanding the consequences of actions.
5. Emotional Expression: It plays a role in managing emotional responses and expressing one’s personality.
6. Speech and Language Production: The Broca’s area, located in the frontal lobe, is crucial for speech production and language comprehension.
Overall, the frontal lobe is vital for many aspects of conscious thought, including behavior, emotion, and personality. Damage to this part of the brain can lead to significant changes in these areas, affecting an individual’s ability to perform daily tasks or maintain normal social relationships.
I can see William has issues with 4 out of the 6 listed above. The institution has been covering for it his entire life. Combine that with how he was raised to believe he was literally God’s gift and can do no wrong, you get the mess of a human being we see today.
@Snuffles, 7. He saw something nasty in the woodshed.
I don’t doubt the head injury didn’t help, but Charles’s former valet wrote a book when William was still a preschooler and called him a monster. He hit people, threw nonstop tantrums, and flushed people’s shoes down the toilets.
Harry was described as quiet and sweet.
@alice
I also wonder how much of Diana’s tumultuous pregnancy damaged William in utero. She was under extreme emotional distress and threw her self down the stairs and bruised her pregnant belly.
I think he may suffer from oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), which includes a frequent and ongoing pattern of anger, irritability, arguing, bullying and defiance. It appears in early childhood, and he’s been like that since he was a small child before the head injury. Like many things, it could be a combination of factors that led to the perfect storm he is today.
@WaterLily *snort* 🤣🤣🤣
@Snuffles It’s highly unlikely that there was in utero damage from a fall downstairs at 4 months pregnancy which is when Diana said it occurrred. The fetus is highly protected in the uterus and more vulnerable to something like that later in the second trimester into the third. Where did you get that she bruised her abdomen? That was never said by Diana.
Excuses, excuses…. He is a spoiled brat of epic proportion, that’s it, that’s all. Never say no or contradict the mother trying to raise him well and you have Will….
Plenty of actors suck at public engagements. Women like Meghan and Angie may benefit from their theatrical training but their social skills are innate.
Yes, it’s not easy to fake empathy. And empathy (interest in other people) is THE social skill.
Does anyone think Billyboy might be on the autism spectrum? What about being narcissist? Snuffles i agree with you 100%
I’d say that he’s highly strung and probably incapable of doing small talk genuinely. The rapid blinking on show at all of his engagements indicates, to me, impatience & irritation. That’s not to forget the innate laziness and lack of preparedness. In his role, he might benefit from sedatives before public engagements?
I don’t get the sense he’s on the spectrum, but some personality disorder traits can be similar (people on the spectrum sometimes display a lack of empathy, while some personality disorders are defined by actual lack of empathy). I think he’s just a spoiled prince who even under the best of circumstances would not have been armed with the emotional resources to weather adversity, and his circumstances were far from the best. Combine that with the belief that by divine right he’s better than and entitled to more than nearly every other human on earth, well, here we are.
There isn’t a doubt in my mind that he has developmental trauma, of which autism is one type.
This whole article could have been written about Kate. She is also socially awkward, asks very stupid questions, grins insanely which leads to the most crazy photo ops, and just as lazy as William. They have more in common than I realized. Due to her being MIA, William has also been largely MIA and it’s showing that he can not even do the bare minimum at events. Or maybe he’s under a lot of stress right now and that’ s why he looks like he’s so lost. He did (marginally) better before his dad was diagnosed with cancer and Kate had her surgery. But this article is the kind of thing this website has been saying about Kate for years (especially about the rictus grins).
This is the lane William has chosen to be in. He wasn’t born into his social awkwardness, his laziness and overweening arrogance put him there. He has no problem being a drunken buffoon at weddings or “larfing it up” publicly with his aristo chums at the expense of the Muslim delivery guy being frisked or held down when he brought Indian food to KP. He has no problem publicly saying his favourite emoji is an eggplant (nudge nude wink wink). He’s a lout and a lummox who is too disinterested to learn even a modicum of social graces, he thinks he’s above it all because he’s the FK. He’ll continue to be a preening, middle-aged adolescent with pretentions of grandeur he’ll never live up to.
How do you solve a problem like Maria, sorry, William?
I’m not sure what William’s gifts and skills are but he’s not playing to them. He is trying to compete with Harry who has loads of skills, a work ethic, a glamorous and accomplished wife.
I honestly think William is trying to get out of his marriage and expect him to seek an American woman of colour (a model or actress) for a partner. IF he succeeds I imagine the UK press will hail it as the most wonderful thing to have ever happened and declare her a saint. It’s possible they’ll turn on him but I doubt it.
Not a chance of that. He is a bigot
Willy is pompous and prickly. Those are just two of his unpleasant qualities
“ everyone who chose the elder and who was not motivated by fervour against the wokerati, misogynoir or keenly felt anti-Americanism was really responding to William’s self-consciousness.”
I do enjoy that she’s pointing out that the only reasons to prefer William are either you’re a terrible hateful person, or you appreciate a buffoon, so you enjoy watching him make a fool of himself. Why doesn’t he have a body man, for fuck’s sake, guiding him? And how hard is it to say to a group of celebrated young actresses that you’re excited to see their work for years to come, if you haven’t seen their films? To tell the winner a simple “congratulations”? To ask how they enjoyed the ceremony? A *lot* of people are awkward at small talk, but it’s *literally* his job, HIS ONLY JOB. He should have been trained for this, and he should have an aide at the ready feeding him lines if need be. JFC. Clown show.
The gift that keeps on giving…William is awkward and insufferable and we all know it. The women’s faces makes me laugh so hard. Priceless. He will make an atrocious king. Someone above compared him to a previous king. Are they any other kings he resembles in mannerisms and or looks?
He looks like George the third with those hanoverian features imo
He’s not socially awkward; he’s a pompous horse patootie. Those are two very different things. He keeps committing these unforced errors because his father ignored him as a child and now he’s surrounded by people who are paid to bow and scrape before him regardless of how ignorant he is or how abhorrently he behaves.
Why in the world did he even bother attending this event when he rarely ever has done, and he hadn’t even bothered to watch any of the movies? He really doesn’t deserve much pity, but I do pity him.
“Why in the world did he even bother attending this event…?”
Because Harry was in Canada getting very good press for the IG 1Y2G events, just days before.
What to make of all these stories lately? Still no sign of Kate. Just recycled reports of her concern with George’s future school and puff pieces about the children taking care of her. Charles has an undisclosed type of cancer and was visited by his younger son hastily. Now all these articles critiquing William and his suitability to take the helm. Sure doesn’t sound good. I guess we will find out more as the year goes on.
So many articles about William and/or Kate act as if they just took the job, and we should all be patient while they learn the trade. What? Then there are articles that are so ridiculously fawning. But if you watch footage of them actually at “work”, it is obvious how ill-prepared and how little they do. I think with William, he believes “existing” is enough and he is giving everyone a gift with his presence. There are so many more negative comments about him; it’s as if many people are waking up to say, “Wait, he is the Prince of Wales now. Stop making excuses and step up. Can’t you do this job at all?” Of course, some of us have known for a very long time he is a waste of space and Kate is simply a grinning clothes horse with terrible style.
