Prince William responded to Prince Harry’s text but it wasn’t ‘warm or informal’

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a simple message several hours after the Princess of Wales’s cancer-announcement video came out. The message: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.” I’m still sort of in awe of how they avoided sounding terse AND how they avoided sounding too ass-kissy. Just the right tone for a sister-in-law who spent years being deeply unpleasant to them (mostly Meghan). Shortly after the Sussexes’ statement, we also heard that Harry and Meghan had “reached out privately” to the Waleses. Given the way that story unfolded, it feels like Prince William has done the most for four straight days to brief against the Sussexes and scream and cry about how he will never reconcile with Harry. Well, if you need more evidence of that:

Prince William “has responded” to Prince Harry’s text but not in the “warm, informal” way you’d expect, it has been claimed. At the end of last week, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, revealed that she was diagnosed with cancer following abdominal surgery she underwent earlier this year at The London Clinic. After the announcement made headlines around the world, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex issued a statement, with it soon alleged that they had also “reached out privately” to the Waleses.

Royal expert and author Tom Quinn has now exclusively revealed to The Mirror: “Harry and Meghan have been in contact with William, but their private message was simply one of sympathy and didn’t include any suggestion the brothers should make up and let bygones be bygones or that Harry should fly back to the UK soon.”

He added: “There is just too much ill-feeling for that. William, who is still hurt by everything Harry has said in the past, has responded, but the response is very much engineered by the palace and it’s hardly the kind of warm, informal response you would expect from one brother to another. It’s more like the sort of communication you would get between two slightly wary diplomats.”

Around the same time as the above, reports swirled that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were allegedly “not told” about Kate’s health before the announcement was broadcast. “They had no idea, and only learned of the news around the same time the rest of the world found out,” an insider told the New York Post at the time.

[From The Daily Mirror]

Just so we’re clear, Harry sent Willim a text and William then went on a briefing rampage about how much he hates his brother and never wants to see him again. All it took was one text from Harry, and William is incandescent with rage and ranting to reporters about how he can’t trust Harry, etc. Also: one of the most galling parts of this whole sh-tshow is the idea that William and Kate were making some kind of pointed “snub” by not telling the Sussexes in advance. It’s clear that Kate and William didn’t even tell their OWN STAFF what was going on for weeks/months. It also sounds like King Charles and Camilla only found out last week! Besides, the Windsors made this big song and dance about the Sussexes being kept out of the loop as the palace fiascoes were in full swing, which is a blessing – all of the palace’s catastrophes couldn’t be blamed on the Sussexes in any way. They had no knowledge of any of it. They are minding their business in Montecito.

    Re: that top photo

William: Watch me do the Robot. Watch me. C’mon, watch me.

    Harry: No.

  2. Neners says:

The only word I have for all of this is banal. Harry and Meghan are being polite. I seriously doubt they care. They wish Kate well because that’s what is done.

    • PC says:

And this is why Harry and Meghan stay blessed. They responded appropriately to the news publicly and they reached out privately to reiterate it. Of course, the incandescent one reacted as he always does: mean spirited and vengeful. My only hope is that Harry has a burner phone that he only uses for the left behinds. That way Willy’s media cronies will have access to Harry’s real phone number.

  3. swaz says:

Why do I feel that in 20 years we will still be hearing of this 🙄🙄🙄

    • sparrow says:

I know how you feel, swaz. Tabloid editors and columnists must bless the day H&M got together – so much money for pedalling the same old crappy hate day in day out, year in year out.

  4. Indica says:

With the amount of stomping around and tantrumming he does…

HIs blood pressure must set new records. Constantly.

  5. Beverley says:

Keeping the Sussexes out of the loop isn’t the snub they hope it looks like. All it does, as Kaiser indicates, is confirm that the Sussexes cannot be dragged into this clown show. Inadvertently, KP has given the Sussexes cover. Any attempt to drag Harry and Meghan into this mess can now easily be refuted by KP’s own words. Harry and Meghan knew nothing before Triple K’s big reveal.

Bet the great statesman and diplomat Baldilocs can’t even begin to reason this out. Poor egg!

    • lanne says:

They are inadvertently showing the boundaries that the Sussexes set with KP. The Sussexes are giving a master class in grey rocking and maintaining a polite but firm distance. They are the ones who look royal, not Whiny William who never had a mild inconvience he didn’t treat like the greatest tragedy. Outside of the derangers, the only response of any casual viewer is, “that again? he’s still going on about his brother?”

      • Lemons says:

I feel like even the derangers are tired…They can’t keep the hate up this long for a couple that really has no affect on their life whereas the Wales’ are living off the public dime…Most normal people, when they don’t like a family member, go no-contact…It’s clear the Sussexes have done so to the best of their ability, but all William can talk about is how much he hates a couple halfway across the world…Is this the future of soft diplomacy? Peg wants world peace but can’t make it with his own brother? It’s a joke.

  6. Eurydice says:

Wasn’t part of the story that W&K didn’t tell H&M for fear that they would “tell all’? Or maybe I’m just assuming that because it’s a constant with William. In any case, how did Tom Quinn “exclusively” reveal this text to The Mirror? Not likely from H&M.

  7. So Harry said speedy recovery and then they said we don’t need your well wishes but that looked bad so now it’s he received the message but he doesn’t want a reconciliation so there. My god how this petulant man child and his wife deal with stuff is ridiculous.

  8. yupyup says:

Will couldn’t just “thumbs up” the text? He has to get the whole damn palace to say “TY” . Then he had to tell the RR to run a story so that people knew about this ? lol what a self own.

  9. molly says:

Happy to see that neither William or his staff has learned ANYTHING about this mess at this point. The less he keeps talking about the “behind the scenes”, the better.

    • Lynwall says:

Actually…I want him to continue talking.
They have still not realized that they are now being watched and analyzed by people outside Britain.
They continue to prove Harry right with every leak to the media.
In addition, the media and people outside of Britain will receive this kind of foolishness very differently than the British media and RR.
I expected better from Lee …what advice is he giving? Or are they ignoring him?
Dignified silence, no complaining no explaining…that is Harry now…not William.

  10. ME says:

Why does anyone care if these two brothers talk? Not all siblings get a long. I don’t care if you share blood, that is no reason to keep a bad relationship going.

    • yupyup says:

@Me William cares that’s why its funny. OH cares or the RR have no other way to talk about the better prince.

    • Blithe says:

I’m American, so none of this affects me personally. I’d care though, if my tax dollars were supporting him, because if William is branding himself as a competent statesman, and if he plans to assume the role of Defender of the Faith, his inability to handle even his public relationship with his brother with appropriate maturity and good judgment calls into question his maturity and judgement overall. More: “First Make Peace With Your Brother” headlines will be the natural— and embarrassingly appropriate— response to pretty much anything that William tries to do.

I agree. Brothers don’t need to get along. I applaud Harry’s healthy effort to avoid keeping this “bad relationship going” — even as William’s public behavior makes his own inadequacies as a statesman and a leader of any sort ridiculously clear.

  11. BeyondTheFringe says:

    Hahahahaha, WILLIAM can’t trust HARRY!?!?!

As if William and his palace staff didn’t just spend months proving to the world who the least trustworthy brother and future monarch on the planet is!

    Not enough eyerolls in existence…

  12. Nicki says:

Harry’s “private message was simply one of sympathy and didn’t include any suggestion the brothers should make up and let bygones be bygones or that Harry should fly back to the UK soon.”

This must have stung a little

  13. bisynaptic says:

I seriously doubt they were text- messaging each other. These people communicate through their respective offices.

    • Kingston says:

No, rmbr H told a story in Spare when he and Bully had a 72-hour long back-n-forth over text, when Bully tried to use H’s response at the first Wellchild event after Archie’s birth, to tell him he was “unwell” and needed “help.”

Also, during the H&M netflix special, there was a moment when H received a text from Bully after the O interview and he showed it to M and said “I dont know what to do.”

So yeah, they (H and Bully) apparently still hv the ability to text each other.

  14. equality says:

“William, who is still hurt by everything Harry has said in the past”. How about: Harry, who is still hurt and offended by everything William has said and done and continues to spout off about.

  15. Jais says:

So all those snotty tweets and articles about the timing of Meghan’s ARO are just a bunch of bitter betty haters.

  16. Cessily says:

My god this is pathetic.. do they change this grown man’s diapers after his tantrums also? I really think people should be sending KP diaper deliveries at this point.

  17. Mooshe1 says:

This is NOT a flex for William. It just makes him look petty and immature

    • sparrow says:

Good point. I’ve never understood why William’s so keen to get his anger broadcast far and wide. This is our future king. He sounds unhinged.

  18. Feeshalori says:

Andrew must be loving that William’s histrionics and the cancer situation are keeping him out of the news.

  19. Cb says:

The wrong brother is the oldest… dang it

  20. Impromptu says:

There is more than one side to this. I am sure Harry and Meghan are happy to have your one sided reporting. Harry did interview with Oprah and has written a tell- all book about the Royal Family. Harry published Spare. In the interest of journalism you need to shine some light on why nobody feels safe commenting to Harry or Meghan. To ignore those betises is to hobble honest journalism.
