The senior royals haven’t made any appearances this week, and they’re all scheduled to be off next week as well – a prolonged Easter holiday for everyone. Reportedly, Prince William and the Princess of Wales have been staying at Anmer Hall in Norfolk since March 22. Meanwhile, King Charles and Queen Camilla have either been staying at Windsor Castle since Easter, or they went off separately to Highgrove and Ray Mill, who even knows. Well, here’s some interesting news, I guess: Charles and Camilla will spend next week in Scotland, staying not at the Balmoral main house but Birkhall.
King Charles is set to travel 500 miles to celebrate his wedding anniversary next week in a clear sign of his “positive” recovery. Charles, 75, is said to be “itching to take the reins” and get back to his public role after an encouraging response to his “sophisticated” cancer treatment.
He is expected to spend his 19th wedding anniversary with Queen Camilla at Birkhall on the Balmoral Estate in Scotland. The property is so close to his heart that he chose it for his and Camilla’s honeymoon destination after their wedding on April 9, 2005. The royal couple also spent New Year’s Day there last year.
Charles’ road ahead and his recovery from the shock cancer diagnosis looks “positive”, a palace source said.
I mean… he can travel 500 miles to go to one of his vacation mansions but he can’t do work events? I know, I know, he’s immuno-compromised, but still – it’s certainly a strange look when he’s like “I need time off while I’m getting cancer treatments but I also need to travel to my Scottish palace for a week!” I’ve also always found it slightly weird that Charles wanted to go to Birkhall for his honeymoon with Camilla. He could have taken her anywhere and he chose there?
Incidentally, The Sun also reports that Charles is hellbent on doing that planned Commonwealth tour of Australia this fall, in October. The palace has been previewing a gentle return to a public schedule in June, so I would assume that Charles will take a summer holiday in Scotland, then return to “work” refreshed in mid-September and begin traveling soon after? This is all contingent on the success of his current cancer treatments, of course. But Charles and the palace really are telegraphing an upbeat vibe, so maybe it’s not as grim as the rumors indicate.

Well the immune compromised goes out the window when just last week he was out greeting the Easter crowd outside of the church without mask or gloves. So yes do some work.
@susan Collins, to late to worry about that Susan, but I would just like to tell Charlie, that if camzilla goes foraging for mushrooms, to, RUN CHARLIE RUN 😂😂
The last thing that Camilla will want is William as King.
I think it’s true that he wants to get back to work, but I think his health is not good. If Birkhall is so dear to his heart, so much that he chose it for his honeymoon and at this time where everything is uncertain, he would choose to go back there, with camilla, when there’s many more easier options closer to him, to me says a lot more of what is happening behind closed doors. Starting now, i think he will be doing a lot of “this might be the last time”.
I wonder if Charles will choose to die in Scotland, like his mother.
Scotland doesn’t mean as much to him as it did his mother. Highgrove seems to be a more likely candidate as the location where he would want to spend his final days.
LOL the title made me think of that Proclaimers song ‘I’m gonna be 500 miles’.
Lol, me too! I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more.
It’s not like he’s going to be making the 500-mile trip on horseback. I’m sure his private plane or train car are both very comfortable and the trip of that distance would be much easier on him than getting in and out of a car, standing for long periods of time. Plus as ableist and right wing as the palaces are, there’s no way in hell Charles would present the optics of being masked in public even if it has nothing to do with COVID vaccinations.
@Dutch, I was going to say the same thing. Riding in a car/plane is different than walking and standing for several hours. I think stamina is the issue not being around other people. Besides I think Charles has done more events than William.
@Dutch: I think it’s because they are ableist that they are insisting all is going well re his cancer diagnosis. Sure, he’s been more open than his parents, but there is a very long history of hiding (or minimizing) serious medical conditions in this family. I keep remembering how we had no idea the queen was so near death until the morning it happened.
I agree. I don’t find this at odds with anything. He’ll go from helicopter to private plane to private car. He will walk like 100 feet in the whole process lol and will not be around a ton of people like the lot of us would be at the airport.
Agreed. Let’s also be reminded that if someone is sick with a terminal illness and not working, it doesn’t mean that they are unable (or undeserving?) of taking a holiday to celebrate something.
Good reminder of Charles’ multiple mansions.
He has been working more than I had expected, I’ll admit. I think at least once a week for the past month or so he’s been doing some smaller meet and greets and has received a few ambassadors etc. It’s definitely a lighter schedule than his usual, but he does seem to be slowly ramping it back up.
Also, a “lighter schedule than usual” for Charles is still about 10x the normal schedule for the Waleses, combined.
He’s still reading his red boxes.
Most of Charles’ travels have been financed by the government. I guess, they wouldn’t pay for his second honeymoon, so the cheapskate took Cam to his own place.
It is reassuring that the Oz trip is being planned as that is such a commitment to give now . Both he, QC and Carole Poppins are trolling FK with all this energy, enthusiasm and get up and go aren’t they?
FK = ?????
Carole Poppins = ??????
FK – Future King – William
Carole Poppins – Ma Middleton – see today’s other posts
Lady Digby, my first thought about the Oz trip was that this could be a red herring to allay concerns about his health, especially if his cancer is actually terminal.
He doesn’t look it.
Off topic but I keep clicking here to see Celebitchy’s take on Scoop! Can’t wait!
Let’s not forget that Charles will be travelling by private jet to Scotland. And I’ll just like people to know that most cancer patients of working age continue to work in between cancer treatments. They don’t have the luxury of taking months off like Charles and Kate.
Is 75 years old “working age,” though? If Charles was a normal bloke he’d be retired by now…it’s really Kate (and William!) that is the right comparison here IMO
Not if he’s Head of State, which Charles is. Biden is almost ten years older than Charles.
If Charles were a ‘normal’ person, he’d be working at walmart by now. Because his pension would not cover his heat. He’d be choosing between heat and food.
But yes, K & W need to get working cancer or no cancer.
Interesting turn of events. I’m suspicious about this sudden upbeat prognosis right before the courtiers ship him off to Balmoral. Isn’t that where they sent the queen to further alienate and finish her off early, albeit in the big house?
Will the impatient incandescent heir be picking mushrooms like his father was, or tending rosebushes when the time arises? Does Charles trust his food taster? Hmm.
He’s not going to Balmoral, he’s going to his private residence at Birkhall. And the Queen wasn’t shipped off to finish her off, she was in the saddle right up until a day or two before she passed despite suffering from what we found out was bone cancer. A very debilitating disease.
Birkhall is on the Balmoral Estate.
Very painful I have heard. She certainly had guts, unlike the heir.
Can we talk about whatever “sophisticated” cancer treatment means? Like, is it actually chemo? Or some herbal treatments?
Depending on the type of cancer he has, which we don’t know, intravenous chemo isn’t always the go-to remedy, there are a number of newer oral chemo medications he could be taking, or even immunotherapy. I worked with a naturopath when I had breast cancer in 2016 and now after my bladder cancer surgery, as a complementary treatment, I’m sure Charles is too.
Could the sophisticated treatments be “personalized “ as we say in the us? Where they do tons of testing and genomics? https://www.cancer.gov/publications/dictionaries/cancer-terms/def/personalized-medicine#
Exactly what I came here to ask! What the heck is a “sophisticated” cancer treatment? Does he sip tea ☕️ 🫖 during the procedure? Do the “unsophisticated” cancer treatments come tea-less? They write stuff like this and get all bent out of shape when no one takes them seriously or believes the propaganda they spew🤷🏻♀️🙄
Absolutely insane to me that anyone would want to go to one of their own homes for their honeymoon, no matter how much they like it there. WeirdAF
The wedding was controversial at the time, wasn’t it? Maybe they wanted to go somewhere private without a lot of press following them.
QEII and Prince Glücksburg spent part of their honeymoon at Broadlands.
Chuck and Diana spent their honeymoon on the Royal Yacht and at Balmoral.
The Senior Royals of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are just PLAIN WEIRD!!!
Diana and Charles first honeymooned at broadlands. Rather perversely mountbatten some years earlier allowed Charles and Camilla to spend weekends there. Even weirder he wanted Charles to marry his granddaughter Amanda when she came of age
I’m sure they get better service on their own estates than they could at any hotel or resort.
Yeah, don’t bank on him getting to Canada and if he does (which I doubt very, very much) don’t bank on him making it back. This is just Charlie’s way of making the Canadians think of HIM and his side peice /mummy substitute /dominatrix and forget that they will be holding the first ever winter invictus.
Australia or Canada of both???
‘the palace really are telegraphing an upbeat vibe’
They always do that, they minimise the Regent’s health concerns. Look how they reported on QE2 – ‘nothing to see here, move along’. They only know how to ‘keep calm and carry on’, unlike Kensington Palace.
I BELIEVE THAT KING CHARLES 111 should go fir two day to rest and return to work the county IS WAITING FOR THE KING TO GO TO WORK. CAMILLA QUEEN CONSORT SHOULD STOP TELLING THE KING HOW TO RUN THE COUNTRY.
SHE’S NOT THE QUEEN ELIZABETH 11
NOT CHOOSING BY THE COUNTRY.SHES
TAKING ADVANTAGE TO TRAVEL AT THE COUNTRY EXPENSE.KING CHARLES 111
HAVE TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN.
