Prince Harry made a solo visit to the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna on Friday. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex really do have a jam-packed schedule, and their first day in Nigeria was full of events, both together and separately. Harry wanted to visit some of the Nigerian veterans in the hospital. The Spencer rizz was in full effect, and as soon as the photos and stories came out, there was a very obvious comparison to Princess Diana’s bedside manner. Diana was great in hospitals and AIDS clinics, and Harry is always going to treat wounded warriors with humanity, care and love. Photographer Misan Harriman has been traveling with the Sussexes in Nigeria and he snapped some incredible photos, as did Simon Perry at People Magazine.
Prince Harry is spending time with service personnel during a solo outing in Nigeria. On Friday, May 10, the Duke of Sussex, 39, visited the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna on his first day in Nigeria. Prince Harry is in West Africa with his wife Meghan Markle at the invitation of the Nigerian Chief of Defense Staff General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the country’s highest-ranking military official.
Harry toured approximately six wards, witnessing rows of young men recovering from various injuries, including gunshot wounds, ambushes by Boko Haram and limb loss due to blasts. During the visit, 23-year-old Corp Yusef, who had been shot through the knee, spoke with Harry. The Duke inquired about his rehabilitation progress, asking, “Are you going to try for the Invictus Games team? Are you preparing for that?” He then gestured towards his friend David Wiseman, who was present and oversees the international expansion of the Invictus Games, saying, “Don’t disappoint us or him! We’ll see you there.”
As Harry left the ward, Yusef was doing push-ups on the bed to show his motivation to get ready.
After talking to Corporal Iziogo Onyema, 31, who had his right arm reset after a gunshot, Harry reassured him, “You do get better, I promise.”
Harry also interacted with Sgt Emmanuel Oyesigi, 46, who had survived a gunshot that passed through his stomach. Oyesigi recounted being ambushed while on patrol with his colleagues. Harry, impressed by his luck, referred to him as “Mr. Lucky” and called over Wiseman to share the story. Oyesigi expressed gratitude for Harry’s visit, saying, “Anything that can help us is much appreciated. It is good for morale to have him here.”
At the bedside of Private Habu Sadiq, 24, who had suffered from impaired eyesight due to a blast, Harry encouraged him, saying, “Get better, be strong.”
People’s coverage keeps going and you can tell that Harry’s visit meant the world to these men. Not just his visit, but the fact that he looked them in the eye, listened to their stories and treated them with empathy and respect. All of this is happening while the British media desperately tries to convince everyone that no one cares about the Sussexes. Please.

Misan is really extraordinary! what a powerful picture….H got all his mothers EQ; all of it!
Incredible how Diana recreated herself through her 2nd son. I wonder whose of H’s kids will inherit this gift ; perhaps both given how their mother also has compassion, empathy and courage written all over her!
We can really see why the Royal Family wants to destroy them. Harry is Diana.
Exactly! He is so much like his mother with his charisma and kindness and just a wonderful human. It kills them that he gets so much attention for the great thing that he is doing. They try to compete with stupid photo ops but they will never be as good and kind as Harry. Harry will continue to win without even trying.
Since they aren’t going to do the heir spare upbringing, it’s safe to say, both the children have the potential.
This. 💖
I honestly don’t see how anyone can be critisised for caring. He has such a way about him. It’s the monarchy’s loss that he’s left the firm, but he doesn’t need the monarchy to do what he was so obviously born to do.
Misan’s pictures from here were so moving and powerful. I feel like it’s a gift to visit people in these circumstances and exude sympathy but not pity and to show your respect for them. Harry has that.
Isn’t that the truth? The combination of a compassionate human interaction and a talented photographer is incredibly powerful. Harry is showing the breadth and depth of his kindness. If only he were king.
^^ I get why you say that. But Harry doesn’t need to literally be King of Great Britain, you know. He carries himself like the King he already is. His mother dubbed him Good King Harry because she understood that his personality was more suited to kingly leadership. Diana also knew that William would always be protected and put first by the firm, so she did her best to ensure that Harry felt secure in himself and confident of his own worth.
Plus, Diana is said to have encouraged her sons to be loyal and supportive of each other. Harry was toward William, but William broke trust with Harry and likely irreparably fractured their bond. A number of interactions Harry recalls in Spare explain how the cracks in their relationship began. The below article also gives insight:
https://stylecaster.com/lifestyle/zodiac/1276627/prince-harry-william-astrology/
The British patriarchal first-born heredity is what it is. Quite often, second sons have inherited the throne after first sons died, or in one famous instance, abdicated. Prince Harry is a modern royal who is showing us that monarchy and hereditary patriarchy should not limit or define what you can do or be in life. Who Harry is and what he brings to the world via vulnerability, courage, and caring is more important than being an actual king.
It’s impossible to imagine Will sitting with an injured veteran, holding their hand, and showing respect and caring. If Will tried he would end up with that fake grin of his and scare the soldier with his giant threatening looking teeth! (What big teeth you have. The better to BITE YOU WITH!)
Aftershocks – Thank god you were here to explain my country and history to me. While totally missing the point of my comment, that Harry is a kind, generous human being and is a better leader than anyone in place now.
Misan captured Harry’s warmth and tenderness.
The man is an artist with a camera! I cried when I first saw the pictures, because they were so beautiful. Harry is his mother’s son, and his compassion and empathy can’t be faked. Misan’s lens captured that perfectly.
Seriously- such powerful images- empathy infused with stoicism. Wow
I cried too. Harry is the epitome of Princess Diana. The Royal Family hated her because they could not figure out how she could relate to people like Harry can with humility, compassion, and empathy.
It is truly amazing. I am not a mushy/touchy-feely person usually and I absolutely teared up. The pictures are fantastic (Misan is so talented) and Harry just had to be himself.
I’m glad that Misan and local photographers are getting the payday for pix of H&M. That is likely really bothering the RR.
Yes, and I like how Misan credits himself with the “photographed by me” phrase, as a jab that these pictures are real and unaltered. I don’t know if he always words the credit that way, but given recent events it really strikes home.
Me too!
One lady said that they had been aware of this trip for a couple of months before it was announced to the public. This lady is a British Nigerian who was sitting on the panel Madam Duchess sat on, on Saturday. That tells you that there are absolutely no leaks from camp Sussex. Every one that was going to be involved in this trip was informed months ago, but nobody leaked, so the leaking wars that Charles and his folks are talking about are definitely not being fought with camp Sussex. And this also tells you that there were efforts made so that British media would not have time to apply for and get visas to attend this trip. The events were announced to the public way too late for anyone that is British media but isn’t dual citizen, to get to take over the entire trip while local media got treated like sh!t in favor of the foreigners from abroad. I truly believe that what happened in Nairobi during Charles and Camila trip has served as some sort of blue print for countries that don’t care for this kind of Britain’s shenanigans. Its like, the Sussexes were in Nigeria on invitation from the Nigerian MOD, and the MOD will do as they see fit for everyone involved including their local reporters. CNN Africa, BBC Africa and Getty Images Africa all have representation in Nigeria right now and are covering these events. There are many Getty images out there of this trip, all pictures taken by Getty Images local people in the region. The Brishitmedia is mad for the fact that they were all shut out and prevented from bamboozling this trip.
So joyed to hear that Harry’s visit is good for morale and much appreciated by the injured soldiers. The fact that he had Misan with him as opposed to a random rota photographer makes all the difference. Being surrounded by supportive people makes all the difference.
The legitimate friendships H&M have with Misan Harriman and David Wiseman make all the difference in the tone of their work. It is so much more natural than having an aide muttering all of their research in a royal ear as they move around a room.
So happy that Harry went to Kaduna, I lived and worked (teaching) in Nigeria for nearly 4 years and spent half my time living in Kaduna, a wonderful northern Muslim city. There’s a large army base in Kaduna and I would imagine that a lot of the troops based there have been heavily involved in the fighting with Boko Haram , I also lived in NE Nigeria bordering Chad (the area that BH kidnapped all the schoolgirls from)also lived in Mina central Nigeria close to the capital Abouja. I loved my time living there, people were so kind, generous and helpful.
Thank you for this additional context!
@roseberry
A m a z i n g !
Thank you for sharing your feelings- I can hear the fondness for the area and people in your words.
Harry is the embodiment of Diana and her caring nature. She would be so proud of him and what he has achieved. As I was looking at these photos I was reminded of the lyrics from Elton John’s Diana version of Candle in the Wind: Goodbye England’s Rose/ May you ever grow in our hearts/ You were the grace that placed itself where lives were torn apart.
These pictures show he is really his mother son.
Diana wasn’t perfect, but she was warm and human, and Harry is too.
This is why the Firm hunt both of them, because they show emotions.
Harry is a veteran, he can relate to them.
This is beautiful and painrul.
Diana was not perfect. Nobody is.Charles spin doctors would write negative things about her and Charles never took responsibility for his bad behavior to her. To this day ingrid and others write negative things about her. Diana will never be airbrushed out thanks to harry and his family and the spencers and those who remember Diana
It’s so good to see Misan is there with them.
Not only is he a Nigerian by birth, but also a true friend and one of the greats in documentary photography – and an artist.
The top photo has more than half a million views on Xwitter and more than 21.000 likes. The impact – of Harry’s idea, his (and Meghan’s) work and Misan’s eye will change people’s lives for the better.
I saw Misan in a few photos taken by others (they weren’t nearly as good as Misan’s photos LOL), and he looked so happy to be there.
He is one photographer whose empathy enriches his art.
What’s interesting (and appalling) is how King Charles and the whole Royal Tampon Brigade cannot for the life of them rise above their pettiness to see the bigger picture when it comes to Harry’s life’s work. He really is like Diana which is the whole reason Charles and Camilla feel so massively threatened by him. All they can manage to represent is petty mediocrity and selfishness, and then are enraged when the world just doesn’t find them that interesting.
They are so threatened, and soooo massively stupid. If they could only look past their own insecurities and guilt, they would see that by claiming H&M and showing pride in their work, they would get part of the positive reaction to their work. Imagine how easy it would be for KC to release a statement such as “The King is proud of his younger son Prince Harry and the work he does on behalf of injured veterans.” Simple, short, and I guess impossible for Chuck to get through his clenched teeth. So short sighted and stupid.
Harry has given Chuck and Willy so many opportunities to see past their own petty selfishness and to meet him halfway, to find common ground and family togetherness. Read Spare. As Harry said in the Prologue of his memoir, he was writing it in part to get through to his father and his brother what they have refused to hear; to explain who he is and why he is the person he has become; to lay it all out to the world, finally.
Sadly, the rotten, selfish Windsors still refuse to listen, much less to hear and understand. The left-behinds are a lost cause. Harry and Meghan have shared their story of weathering grief, trauma, and betrayal. They have done their utmost to heal and they have been done moved on. Let’s move with them! 🥰 🥳
Forget about the Opposite Day whining. It’s Moving Day, as we get lifted higher and higher by the good work and shining light of Harry & Meghan❣️ #LoveWins!
What beautiful photos and showing the embodiment of the IG mission. There were some articles yesterday with images of Diana side to side with Harry’s. One had Charles standing awkwardly away while Diana held a patient’s hand – Charles looked like he was afraid he might catch something. With Harry, the comparisons to Diana, the Spencers supporting Harry – it’s like the ghost of Diana continues to haunt him.
Harry is everything Charles and William will never ever be . A born king of the heart, soul and compassion. Diana lives on In her good king Harry
See, people are talking about royal tours, but royal tours don’t do sh*t for these countries except creating cost. There is no trade deal, no donation attached to it. H&M are representing Invictus & Archewell there, both of which will help people.
What did W&K’s scuba diving do for people? If all of their power is tourism, they could just the photos of the commonwealth countries from tourism brochures on their socials.
@Sevenblue so true. And I read on Twitter that a Royal tour/visit is imposed on the country that the BaRF wants to visit. H and M were invited to Nigeria. I don’t see BaRF members being invited anywhere!
^^ Great on-the-nose insight @SevenBlue! 🎯 💯
That’s exactly why H&M were invited to visit Nigeria in the first place! 🇳🇬 Not because of their royal status, but because of what they have done, individually and together as caring philanthropists and creative entrepreneurs, both individually and together! Furthermore, the Sussex Squad, inspired by H&M’s example, have donated beaucoup funds to some of their wonderful global 🌍 causes, including Invictus, and many charities in the U.K. and the U.S., the essential global work of World Central Kitchen, the stellar work of Myna Mahila in India 🇮🇳, and charities in African countries, such as Sentebale in Lesotho and Botswana, and CAMFED, the group who specifically benefit education for girls in Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe!!!! 🇱🇸 🇧🇼 🇬🇭 🇲🇼 🇹🇿 🇿🇲 🇿🇼
It is one thing to garner attention and undue adulation for simply being royal. It is quite another level entirely to use the platform provided by one’s high profile royal status, to make a difference for others in need around the world! Kudos to Harry & Meghan & their Archewell Foundation! 👏🏽🤌🏽🫡
These photos are just extraordinary. I love that the Sussexes have Harriman with them, his photos evoke real warmth. I’m not a fan of People generally, but they will write positively about the trip.
I wonder if the rota tried to get credentials and were rejected?
I read that since the news of the trip was made public too close to the date, they didn’t have enough time to get visas. Otherwise, I am not sure they could block them. They wouldn’t get preferential treatment, but they could get access to get photos of the events like local press.
Tourist visas to Nigeria are processed within the same day of applucation
@Aurelia, they are press. They wouldn’t get tourist visa. I think, they need to get journalist visa for their work, which requires some paperwork.
Very moved by Harry and the photographer’s photos. Good King Harry doing good in the world.
The pictures of Harry really remind me of Diana. It brings bittersweet tears to my eyes to see Diana’s legacy in Harry. I wish she had lived. CAn you imagine the things they, along with Meghan and their children, could have accomplished! He is truly his mothers son❤️
I believe Diana would also have settled in America and she would certainly have championed Harry and Meghan. KC3 has gotten complacent but those of us with long memories know how he was trying to isolate Diana and now he is trying to do the same to their son. Last week’s snubbing was wrong and aftermath rubbishing set against these heartrending photographs of Harry comforting wounded men show how wrong headed KC is. Sadly he was jealous of Diana now it is Harry and Meghan.
The evil jealousy in Charles egged on by his nasty conniving side piece have brought a new kind of reign of terror.
It’s just been more insidious. But the clouds are parting now.
I remember this story about Diana’s visit to Casey House, a hospice for those dying of AIDS in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was a warm fall day in 1991. All the patients had willed themselves to live long enough to meet her. One of them actually dragged himself to the small foyer of the house in order to be the first to meet her. There was no chair for Diana for this impromptu visit. To bring herself down to his eye level, she sat on the cold radiator so she could make a connection with him.
Diana visited with each patient, and the staff. The picture of her sitting on the side of the bed and holding the hand of the AIDS patient helped to destigmatize the disease, and showed people that it was safe to touch them.
Diana cared.
My grandma was a nurse for forty some odd years and she tells me to this day that Diana was the one that helped her get over her fear of catching AIDS even as a nurse. No one would take care of the patient (she worked as a rehab/nursing home nurse) except her and the rest of the staff started calling her “princess Betty” because of it.
That is a lovely story.
Such a beautiful and powerful picture. Harry said at the press conference in Kaduna that he wanted to cut things short so he could get to the hospital and spend more time with the soldiers.
Derangers were claiming these veterans were paid actors because “no one wears sunglasses inside.”
I just knew that man had injured his eyes and now this article confirms it. “At the bedside of Private Habu Sadiq, 24, who had suffered from impaired eyesight due to a blast, Harry encouraged him, saying, “Get better, be strong.””
The derangers are heartless monsters, just like the people they support. They’re the worst in people. Imagine attacking a veteran whose eyesight had been damaged because you hate the person comforting them.
I am more and more convinced that the derangers are part of the Alex Jones mindset where it’s appropriate to endlessly harass the parents of murdered children (Sandy Hook) and nothing anyone will ever tell them will convince them that they are wrong – not to mention horrible.
Sue, that’s a perfect comparison. Both also right wingers trying to excuse horrific actions of the people they support.
Trolling and insulting injured veterans is grotesque.
These are the same people who insist no one can ask about Kate because she’s “sick.” But it’s fine to insult wounded veterans who aren’t public people, invade their medical privacy and claim they’re acting.
These photos are so moving. I checked out their Instagram and I’m now following as well. Incredibly moving and so reminiscent of Diana. No wonder Chuckles and Co are fuming.
Beautiful and powerful photograph. This is who Harry is. Truly.
+1
I love so much that they brought Misan with them. Misan is of Nigerian descent and has so much love for the country and it really can be felt through his lens. The photos he took at the hospital were respectful and treated these soldiers with the dignity they deserve and I really appreciate that. And yes the gratitude from these soldiers, not just at the hospital but at pretty much every stop the Sussexes have made the last few days, is palpable. Harry has done a great service with the Invictus Games and they’ve a done a fantastic job in how they’ve executed this trip in Nigeria. No gross colonial undertones just respect, empathy, and graciousness from both Harry and Meghan.
Reading all the comments these past few days on how the world is fed up with C&C and their ilk has been cathartic to say the least. Thank you Kaiser and all who make this site possible.
So beautiful to see Harry channeling his amazing mother in his respect and compassion for fallen warriors. Makes me want to cry.
Y’all they are absolutely NAILING IS T on this visit. Wow, you know the roaches are having hysterics right now!! The pictures are AMAZING~ #SussexSquad
Like a lot of you who are on Facebook I get prompts for groups I might be interested in which includes numerous fan clubs for Kate and/or William (sheesh!!!!). Today they’ve outdone themselves, at least 3 posts with that awful tone deaf picture of William and Kate in that car in Jamaica – anyway could that contrast more strongly with the wonderful photos we’re getting of Meghan and Harry this week-end? But the derangers think they’re making a point here – I’m actually embarrassed for them!
All I can say is the salty island is psst off lolZ.. Besides themselves, no one cares about their leftovers- they don’t have as much worldwide impacts except what happens in their local backyard. Heck even Mickey and Minnie Mouse has more worldwide influence than them- and Americans don’t even pay taxes for Mickey or Minnie.
People see Diana in Harry and many in the world are in love with Meghan. Both HM together has sooo much charisma than the entire leftovers.
Also – Happy Mothers Day to all back in the states.
I hope they release Misan Harriman’s coverage on the Archewell site!
I can’t WAIT for headlines to start calling him “The People’s Prince,” and William to go ballistic when they do.
OMG! I forgot about that nickname until you just said it, Oswin. I’m practically giddy thinking about the meltdown on Salt Island after THAT! TeeHee. (Its GOT to happen, no?)
Empathy is impossible to fake. It’s a blessing and, sadly, can also be a curse. It’s impossible for those born with it to ignore – they’ll feel it *always* unless they cut themselves off completely from others outside their nuclear families and society. Diana suffered the wrath of the monarchy and the BM for sharing her empathy with the world, and now Harry is facing scrutiny and derision from the same horrid institutions that hounded his mother.
Thankfully, he has refused to let his light be dimmed by the ugly, cruel royals and the disgusting British media. No doubt Megan has helped him immensely. She fell in love with, married and had children with a man with strong values, character, empathy and charisma – there’s no way she was going to let anyone less *personally* invested in Harry than she (and their children) destroy the gifts he was born with.
Harry is a deeply empathetic person, like his mother, but he also experienced combat, so he knows what these soldiers went through and you can tell in these photos that the soldiers and Harry shared a bond.
