Queen Mary & King Frederik looked happyish together on a tour of Norway

Denmark’s Queen Mary and King Frederik have been on tour in recent weeks, visiting “the Nordic monarchies.” They spent two days in Sweden, and then this week, they were in Norway. The Danish royals are very close to the Norwegian royals, and Fred and Mary did many events with Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Frederik was best man at their wedding, and he’s godfather to their daughter.

Norway also hosted a state dinner for the Danes, with King Harald V and Queen Sonja playing host to the new king and queen of Denmark. For the state dinner, Mary was photographed for the first time in the Pearl Poire Tiara, which Queen Margrethe used to wear often. It looks so much like the Cambridge Lovers Knot Tiara, right? According to People Mag, her gown was probably a rewear from 2015!

The Danes’ Nordic mini-tours remind me that the Spanish king and queen recently visited The Netherlands and those two royal houses seem especially close as well. It really does feel like all of the European royals get along and strengthen their European alliances… and Britain is sort of the isolated hillbilly island. The Windsors just refuse to travel these days.

As for Mary and Fred, they were putting on shows of unity all over the place. All forgiven and forgotten? Probably not, but Mary is playing along. It’s easier to play along when you’re queen and you have all of the jewelry, I guess.

I absolutely love her style. Never seen her look bad.

The daily mail has a hilarious article ‘re these royal and the tour and how the Danish Media are reporting it.
Basically, the Mail are saying that although the Danish Media are reporting how loved up they are, all may not be as it seems.
We’ll they would know, it’s the same with their own reporting on the Wales’

I had to check, and yes at least on of the danish magazines has written a story about them being strong together. Loved up isn’t what I got from the pictures, but I didn’t see any animosity either. In one of the pictures Fred is helping Mary with a mic, which I doubt we’ll ever see Willnot help Kate with

I’ve noticed in recent weeks the fail has several articles about Mary and Fred that include pictures with big red circles, ala the Willy’s Mothers Day pic. One article claimed ‘people were speculating’ that their first official pic was photoshopped with red circles of ‘suspect’ areas. No proof of manipulation nor that anyone else claimed there was. Another article included a pic where the df drew red circles around area that ‘body language experts’ thought might prove Mary and Fred were faking for the cameras. Completely ridiculous and such an obvious ploy to make is seem like Kate’s photo manipulation wasn’t described as akin to something put out by N Korea.

    I love the dress.

But oh no, not the striped sweater (that almost everyone in the world has had at one point in time)! Cue the BM saying Mary is looking to Kate for fashion inspiration.

    • Kaye says:

My thoughts about her clothing are the same, HeatherC. Me: Everyone’s going to say that’s Katewear.

She does look amazing in all the pics.

    • Jay says:

The striped sweater is something Kate would wear, but she would almost certainly pair it with skintight jeggings. Mary is ten years older and yet she is still rocking a more modern, relaxed fit. Plus, no bedraggled sausage curls or curtains of hair over her face!

In that top picture, I love how the photographer captured the glowing green color of the leaves in the water next to Mette Marit and Mary’s heads. They look pretty good in that outdoor setting (and Haakon’s untucked shirt makes me smile). The one where Frederik has one his hand on Mary’s waist and the other is gripping her arm on what looks like a level path looks silly. That periwinkle blue gown is beautiful—she wears jewel tones really well. Her arms look like she has beginning vitiligo (it’s in my family) and a bit of sun damage—she’s okay health-wise?
Were there more pictures of the Norwegian royals, too?

    • Couch Potato says:

CP Haakon is a bit nerdy and loves to surfe. When asked what he’d be if not royal, he answered professional surfer.
There’s some more pictures her; https://www.royalcourt.no/

Yeh, it looks like vitiligo on her arms. Never heard it mentioned though.

Y’all, that’s just the skin of an older woman who had too much sun in her past. Source: myself.

Fred and Mary did seem to interact well on their trips to Sweden and Norway, and Fred looked genuinely happy to be in both places. They were definitely among friends/family and it showed.

Mary has, I think, cribbed a little bit from Kate (I don’t recall if she was wearing those striped sweaters before) but obviously she has been on the scene longer and has her own royal style.

And the pearl poire is her “best” traveling tiara. The comparisons with the CLK are pretty inevitable, but she wore her best for a visit to the Nordic cousins. (She wore her ruby tiara in Sweden. It was originally the property of Desiree, the first of the Bernadotte queens, and passed to Denmark from Swedish princesses. Queen Ingrid of Denmark was Carl Gustaf’s aunt and the previous owner of the set; she gave it to her grandson Fred for his future wife.)

    • ArtHistorian says:

I have seen both the Perle Poire and the Ruby-Diamond tiaras in person. They are utterly gorgeous!

The gown pics are not flattering. She seldom takes a bad pic so I was surprised to see an unflattering pic. Being queen has its privileges.

  7. Concern Fae says:

They all seem to actually be wearing clothes they are comfortable in. Surprising how much that helps.

  8. Water says:

As a longtime royal watcher , I know why Mary was dubbed as OG kate. But unlike kate , mary does work ( royal standard) , not grabbing fed ass and looking for lovey lovey in public. She knows the assignment which is title at all cost . Maybe Wales should learn from this marriage. Kate failed in her job not only she is lazy, she wants all the affection from william and title. Mary and kate happiness varies and that’s why kate failed. She saw how pippa hubby behave and how harry treat meghan. If Carole was not there , I think kate might had balls left william. Instead you have narcissist mom egging on her.

  9. Couch Potato says:

Speaking of the other RFs relationship with the Windsors. Take a look at who was present at princess Ingrid Alexandra’s and now crown prince Christian’s birthdays. The Windsors are nowhere to be seen. Probably not invited either.

  10. Ana says:

Why aren’t the windsors friends with other European royals? They could holiday together do projects etc? They just don’t want to share any spotlight? Or are too in line with Tory propaganda so can’t be pro-eu? Did that stand a few decades ago?

    • ArtHistorian says:

There are old familial ties between all the Nordic Royal families and they used to be friendly. Queen EIizabeth II was friendly with the Norwegian RF and with Queen Margrethe II – privately and when she was younger more officially.

Charles seems to have zero interest and the same with William.

    • Liz says:

The British royals tend to look down at their European counterparts and are not popular with them
