There’s a vibe around the coverage of the Cannes Film Festival this year. A vibe of… this isn’t special anymore, this isn’t a hot A-list event which jump-starts the film festival season. Maybe it’s the largely weaksauce fashion, maybe it’s the in-competition films this year, I don’t know. But for the second year in a row, everything around Cannes seems like a snooze. Still, people like to talk about Cannes fashion, so here we are. One highlight of Thursday’s red carpet was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in this completely bonkers Falguni Shane Peacock dress. This is NOT the look and the whole thing looks so cheap, but I don’t know, I sort of enjoy the fact that Aishwarya doesn’t seem to give a f–k.
Greta Gerwig in Chanel… her worst look thus far.
Nathalie Emmanuel also wore Chanel. Chanel really phoned it in, huh?
Grace VanderWaal in Panos Zinas. Eh.
Chloe Fineman in Celine. She left a comment on a fashion IG because she was mad that people don’t like this on her. It’s a simple dress and there’s really nothing wrong with it and I’m sure she felt really special and honored to wear it. All that being said… it could have been better.
Aubrey Plaza in Loewe – thanks, I hate this. Half-rolled condom-ass dress.

Chloe Fineman’s dress could have worked with better styling – more dramatic hair or something. It’s a lovely dress in itself, just overall the look is kind of boring.
I love the bonkers peacock gown, lol. It’s kind of ugly but kind of works and you can’t say it’s boring!
@Becks1, Certainly can’t say the peacock ensemble is boring, you’re right! When I saw the first pick of it I was startled to see the train dragging behind the frock with large crisps (think you Americans call them chips??) all over it! 😂
I’m also loving the gown and the fact the Aishwarya often brings something big and dramatic. Paired with how beautiful she is she always stands out. More of this.
My main complaint about Chloe’s dress (other than agreeing that more dramatic styling would have helped) is that it continues the trend of ‘we don’t know what to do with boobs’ that seems to be a thing in so many red carpet dresses and tops. Sure we don’t need to go back to the wonderbra days but currently they seem to be an afterthought and it bugs me.
Maybe it’s bc they platformed Johnny Depp last year? Kinda takes the shine off. But I like Greta’s dress!
I actually don’t mind Aubrey Plaza’s dress and like the styling. The rest are a snooze fest. Aishwarya is no stranger to Cannes fashion and this is not her best look.
None of the dresses look appealing but when I saw Aubrey’s I quickly read Kaiser’s response and almost choked because I couldn’t put my finger on what was wrong with this dress but Kaiser described it perfectly LOL
That is a SATIN condom, may I hasten to add.
(Fellow FugNationals, you feel me.)
Aishwarya and Natalie are in my opinion the most beautiful women out there.
Hahah Aubrey’s dress, you nailed it.
I always feel bad for people like Greta G who aren’t made to walk the red carpet. I had to walk a few red carpets for film premieres and You just never look like you imagine. My girlfriend was just photographed on a red carpet and she called me after and said “it’s over.” Hahaha. A brutal experience.
Those who were made for it make it look so easy! (Looking at you, Zendaya)
I usually ride for Loewe but that dress is AWFUL. I actually don’t mid Greta’s Chanel. Her taste veers older and this fits her aesthetic well. As for all the other dresses…meh.
The Saint Laurent was Greta’s worse dress by far to me. This is okay to me maybe pretty good. Natalie is so pretty that I thought she looked great even though I don’t love the dress. I like her hair darker and curly, but nothing wrong with a little change. Nothing great but Greta and Natalie have the best dresses. Aishwarya’s dress is a lot. Puffy sleeves, a train, and pointy things. Not great.
That dress is definitely a statement. Lawd. Greta never really nails any of her red carpet looks in my opinion. I actually like Nathalie’s dress and think she looks lovely. Chloe’s dress is blah.
I thought the Aubrey Plaza dress looked great from a partial profile perspective, kind of old hollywood. the straight on view does give it a more condom look- which is not good.
So disappointed when i found out Chloe Fineman is a scientologist. She has kind of that cult look in her eyes, in that pic- though i think its a pretty dress.
The bar is high though- you’re at cannes.
Where fashion is EXTRA and sexual predators are lauded.
Imagine spending hours and hours selecting a dress, getting fitted, hair and makeup…just to have people pick you apart.
Aubrey Plaza usually nails it. Weird dress this time
Aishwarya’s dress reminds me of ones Adele used to wear to big events, the “look over here don’t look over there” – distraction dresses.
I know nothing about Nathalie emmanuel except that she had a role in GOT. But she is my pick to play Meghan if there is ever a movie about the duchess of sussex, she reminds me of her very much.
I adore Aubrey Plaza, and *almost* like her look, or the shape at least! It needed to be different color top and bottom, and neither should have been the champmagne color it was… because, yeah, condom.
I like Greta’s dress! She usually wears stuff that makes her look like an old fat granny wrapped in blankets.
