Here are some photos of Dakota Johnson at the June 10th screening of Daddio at the Tribeca Film Festival. Dakota has been filming a movie with Chris Evans in New York in recent months and she’s been keeping relatively quiet since Madame Web bombed. But last month, there were rumors that Dakota and Chris Martin split recently, and those rumors seemed to come directly from Chris. He told a fan that he was single last month. It was surprising because we only really get gossip scraps about Chris and Dakota’s situation – they’re loosely engaged, they’ve been together for years, and Dakota and Gwyneth Paltrow are seemingly tight. But what’s really going on? Well, People Mag has an interesting update:

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin’s relationship is in a good place. As Johnson, 34, premieres her new movie Daddio at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City and Martin, 47, continues a world tour with his band Coldplay this summer, a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE the longtime pair are “going strong.”

“They’ve had ups and downs, but now they’re definitely back on,” the source says.

Johnson and Martin were last seen together during a February trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they were spotted hitting the beach. The pair began dating sometime in 2017, three years after Martin and his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow famously “consciously uncoupled.” They finalized their divorce in 2016.

The pair have typically kept their relationship private over the years. As a source told PEOPLE in March, the couple “got engaged years ago but were in no rush to get married.” Johnson was seen wearing a large emerald ring on her left hand in December 2020, though the couple did not comment on the ring at the time.

“Now they’re definitely back on” – so, an admission that they were off for a time. I wonder if they split around the same time Madame Web bombed? If so, that was a particularly rough time for Dakota. I also wonder if they’ve had little breakups here and there and we’ve never heard about it. Hm. While I know Dakota might not want marriage and the whole “settled down” lifestyle, I will be so mad at Chris if it turns out that he’s strung her along for eight-plus years and he was always the one who never wanted to get married.
