Snoop Dogg & Flavor Flav are having an absolute blast at the Paris Olympics

It’s amazing to see Snoop Dogg and Flavor Flav get so much attention at the Paris Olympics. Both men have been in Paris since before the Opening Ceremony. NBC hired Snoop as a special Olympic correspondent, and he’s been giving interviews, doing cute segments for NBC, but mostly he’s just been attending events like gymnastics and tennis. They even let him do a section of the torch-relay through Paris last week!

Flavor Flav is at the Paris Olympics for a different reason. The US women’s polo team reached out to him months ago, wanting him to use his influence to draw attention to them and to water polo. Flav ended up signing on as a personal, five-year sponsor of the team AND he’s worked to attach other sponsors to individual water polo players and the team. Flav has attended all of Team USA’s water polo matches, although he did break away yesterday to support the American women’s rugby team, so he was there when the team won bronze! Flav has done such amazing work to lift up women athletes and he’s super-popular at the Olympics. People have been lining up to get photos with him, and with Snoop.

It’s just really cool that these two men – Snoop is 52, Flavor Flav is 65 – are living out some of their own Olympic dreams. They are having an absolute blast in Paris and they’re both doing so much to raise the profiles of underappreciated sports and underappreciated athletes. I’m including Snoop’s new Vogue video, where he talks about what he carries in his Olympic bag. He also confirms that he owns over 500 bags/purses/totes. He’s a collector!

The Vogue video is quiet long but definitely an entertaining watch. Got to love someone with a bag full of snacks.

Also his talk about his training regime? Excellent.

Top marks to both of them for bringing attention to different sports and athletes.

Good to know Snoop is basically rolling with a whole stocked minibar, in case you are in his vicinity and feeling peckish. Bold move taking your own wine to Paris!

  2. Pinkosaurus says:

Dr Biden and Flava Flav!!! I love the story of how he became a sponsor/supporter of women’s water polo and it’s so awesome to see how much the team’s profile has been raised. They deserve all the eyeballs.

And holy cow, how fun and awesome are the women’s rugby 7????? The medal games yesterday were the best, most exciting games I’ve watched so far. The announcer said the US team felt like they won the gold, and totally true.

Gotta say I’m a Flavor Flav fan now. His support of the team and his ability to play ANY instrument is super impressive.

    • Deborah says:

Oh my gosh, I am so impressed with Flava Flav’s hustle for the women’s polo team. He’s always seemed like such goofball in the past. Huge kudos to him for this. And Snoop+Olympics is everything.

  4. Becks1 says:

These two are the Olympic supporters/fans we didn’t know we needed. They’re bringing such a fun vibe to the games and I LOVE how Flav is so supportive of the women’s water polo. I also love how it just feels like Snoop is popping up in all these events in Paris. He’s definitely there to support all the athletes.

  5. Hypocrisy says:

They have been so fun to watch at the Olympics..

If our Olympiads enjoy having them there then I love that for them. Snoop is boys with DT and mocked Meghan the Stallion when she was shot. I have been out on him for years. Flav called out DT during the last election cycle for being a bum but shared his admiration for him in 2016. I think his support of the water polo team is wonderful and warms my heart.

  7. Mayfair says:

    He looks like John Waters!

  8. Nanea says:

I didn’t really care for all the celebs who already were in Paris before the games on behalf of their sponsors, not even Zendaya, and I say that as a fan of Tomdaya. It seemed so overblown.

But then Snoop appeared at the torch relay — and Flava turned out to be the best ambassador that water polo in general and the US women’s team specifically could have wished for, tasking himself with being the fairy godmother *and* emotional support when Lulu Conner, the SIL of Maggie Steffens, died.

And then Snoop offered refreshing comments that went beyond the usual sports talk, and Flava posed with Dr. Jill.

And Flava doing improv at the baby grand at the embassy, showing his musical talents go beyond rap.

    What’s not to love?

Honestly- They may be my favorite part of the olympics this year. So much joy.

If you had told teen me in the late 80s that that guy from the incredibly powerful (and unusual for its time) fight the power video- or the guy from the early 90s who was a friend of Dr Dre’s little brother, who was the defendant in a murder trial- would be beloved grandfather figures i can’t imagine i would have believed it.
But oh man do i love it.
    LOVE IT
And everyone there seems to love it to.
Flavor Flav with the First Lady!!!!!
    Snoop carrying the torch.
And he’s not getting high on camera- which seems unusual, he’s not even making references.
He is working for NBC, talking to Mike Tirico.

    LOVE IT.

    • BeanieBean says:

Oh, he referenced it, all right. 😉. He mentioned he wasn’t going to haul out of the bag the reason for all those snacks he carries.

It did my heart good to see the delight on the women gymnasts’ faces when they spotted Snoop at their event. And they (the ladies and Snoop) all started dancing. Just pure joy.

    • Giddy says:

I saw that and loved the impromptu dance session! These guys have added a fun element while also being supportive of the teams. Also, the Kevin Hart/Kenan Thompson take on Olympic moments has been epic. Their Olympics show is great!

  11. Sarah says:

I’ve always enjoyed Flavor Flav but honestly this past year he’s surprised me with his interests and just the way he finds pure joy in things you wouldn’t expect. And what he’s done for the women’s water polo team is just so kind and generous.

I’ve heard from people who work in stores I shop at that he’s the most wonderful person and their favorite customer because he’s so nice and respectful and I just really think the world of him.

Snoop has been hilarious but I’ve always found him funny.

  12. Traveller says:

Sorry, Snoop’s recent comment about having “nothing but love and respect” for Drumpf left me cold. Not interested in his Olympic stint at all.

  13. Stef says:

Loving watching these two have the time of their lives. The Snoop and Michael Phelps swimming lesson video was pretty funny. Love that Flava Flav stepped up for the ladies water polo team and he’s been getting shout-outs from friends on Twitter, such as Ice T.

The energy of the Olympic games is amazing and unlike anything else. I volunteered for 2 weeks during the Vancouver 2010 games and it was the best time ever!

  14. martha says:

This guys are so much fun! Sort of repping the average Olympics viewer – some sports known well and others that are just “huh – what is this? – this is fun to watch.”

Wonder how everyone in Paris is doing in the heatwave – yeesh mid-90s. They mostly don’t have AC and barely have room-fans over there…

On sad note – just saw a clip on E that says the sister-in-law of the captain of USA Woman’s polo team died in Paris after a medical emergency. Don’t know any details. How sad for everyone who knew and loved her.

  15. DaveW says:

I love it…having been lucky enough to attend an Olympics once, Snoop best captures the spirit of the regular people who make up the majority of people at the events (albeit with better seats, lol). It is just such a fun, amazing experience. You run into Olympians everywhere, and it’s not that difficult, or crazy expensive, to get tickets to most events outside of swimming, diving, track and field, gymnastics and basketball. We went to water polo match and several diving teams were having practice at the same time time so it was like a twofer since the diving well was next to the match pool. Just things like that and again, Snoop really captures that enthusiasm. Also, had no idea he is so tall!

  16. JanetDR says:

Why is Leslie Jones not there? Her commentary is the best and she is so enthusiastic!
