Angelina Jolie wore Dolce & Gabbana to the TIFF premiere of ‘Without Blood’

I’m really enjoying Angelina Jolie’s new “outside” era. Angelina was in Toronto over the weekend for her TIFF premiere of Without Blood. She directed the film and cast Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir in the two lead roles. Salma and Angelina became besties when they worked together on The Eternals. I assume Angelina cast Bichir because he’s a brilliant actor. Angelina wore a Dolce & Gabbana ensemble at the TIFF premiere. I suspect she chose the gloves because so many people were talking about the veins in her arms while she was in Venice. Rude! Salma wore Gucci!

Angelina also received the TIFF Tribute Award last night, and she made a speech about making films about war and how war affects people. Here’s part of her speech:

“The challenge of making film you hope can make an impact, is that you look back and wonder if it did. As a director, I have been drawn to films about war. I have wanted to understand how people can be driven to commit such acts of violence and cruelty against their fellow human beings. I wanted to believe that stories that allow us to understand our shared humanity, might make these horrors less likely.

When I am asked how I feel about the state of the world today, I admit I feel sick. After pushing for basic human rights for all people, only to see the reality worsen for so many, I feel a part of the failure of the system. In a world full of broken commitments, it seems power and control and business mean more than protecting the already fragile fabric of human rights.

As artists, and audience, we have an opportunity now more than ever to watch and learn from world cinema, and to listen to and support others who are giving their perspective. I’ve had the privilege of working and collaborating with artists from across the world. I’ve been humbled by their talent and craft…

To know each other makes it harder for misinformation to be spread or divisions created. And to empathize with each other – as art as it best enables us to do – can help create the unity we need. We have no certainty of success, but no option other than to be human, and keep creating. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this creative community for all of these years.”

In late 2022, Angelina ended her role with the UN High Commission on Refugees after more than two decades as a goodwill ambassador and special envoy. At the time, I wondered if she was burned out and extremely discouraged to watch the cycles of war, violence and displacement happen across the world. That’s what this feels like too – “After pushing for basic human rights for all people, only to see the reality worsen for so many, I feel a part of the failure of the system.” She’s not part of the failure, she’s not part of the broken system, but she still feels that way.

Is that Pax with her in the 2nd to last photo?

  2. Briar says:

It’s so good to see Pax!!!

  3. Jais says:

Aw okay, there’s Pax! Good to see him looking healthy. I basically hate the long gloves trend. She looks amazing but it’s still a no to the gloves.

  4. Hypocrisy says:

She is looking beautiful, it is wonderful to see Pax hope his recovery is going smoothly.

  5. Aerie says:

Perhaps it’s the lighting but she appears pale and tired. I like her outfit; she’s one of the few who always looks chic in gloves.

  6. Mirelle says:

Love these photos. Good to see Pax up and about!!!! Salma and Demián look good. Looking forward to seeing this movie. Angie’s dress is OK…I guess I’m spoiled seeing her in color on the red carpet. Now she’s back to her evening, formal black.

Regarding her leaving the UN High Commission on Refugees, I read somewhere on Twitter she left because she was disgusted that the organization did not always advocate for basic human rights for all marginalized communities and that the agency really didn’t have any working plans/solutions to reintegrate/return displaced peoples to their homelands. Thus, continuing an endless cycle of displaced people without a country or future. I can understand why she left.

I think she looks great, I love to see her not in a sack dress, lol.

Now as to the gloves/ reason for the gloves:
Disclaimer, I’m a registered nurse. I look for these things, subconsciously. There’s a great meme out there called nurse p0rn and it’s just a picture of a very veiny forearm.

Angelina has been very vascular/veiny for years. It’s not uncommon for people on the thinner or more muscular side to be very vascular in the arm (in the case of over muscled you can see it in the pectorals as well). When I worked the emergency room I loved to see a muscular man come in and need an IV. They always made me feel that I could throw the needle from across the room and get access right away.

Angelina, objectively, does not have a lot of fat on her body. That’s why she appears so vascular. I really hope she chose the gloves because she liked them andnot because of the stupid media.

Thanks so much for this background! It’s good to have some context.

I know what you mean; I’m a geriatric social worker and I can’t turn that part of my brain off. There have been so many times I want to talk to strangers about how their walker/rollator doesn’t fit them & it’s unsafe!

    • bisynaptic says:

      I 😍 great access!

  8. Amberil says:

She looks beautiful. I hate that people made her feel self conscious about her veins.

Also she gave such a great speech at her tiff tribute !

  9. Mayp says:

Why would any feminist who supports lgbtq+ rights wear D&G?

  10. Lucía says:

Slightly unrelated but I always get surprised whenever I see an Argentinian actor featured here! I’m talking about Juan Minujín, the one in the light tan suit. Truth to be told, I had no idea Angelina had cast him in this movie. For those of you who don’t know him, he’s a great talent!!

  11. Localady says:

    Love that speech

A woman like her who cares so much for others, the arts, women, children, humanity

    To me

All that inner beauty shining out is success

Hope she feels as eternally successful as we all know her to be someday very soon. If someone like her who is such a helper is not a success, who amongst us would be. I for one deeply appreciate her hard work on behalf of others, immensely. 🖖

  12. therese says:

Angelina looks so beautiful here. And thank goodness she is not wearing a curtain. A world class woman and beauty deserves world class fashion. The picture of she and Pax holding hands made me emotional. Her children love her so much and are protective of her. But then, she has been protective of them and a wonderful mother. What she has done to protect her children has taken a lot of courage, and she didn’t blink. Wowzah, what a speech. She just quietly and inexorably keeps on keeping on.

    She is so beautiful!!
