Kendrick Lamar has dropped new music. He did so on the 23rd anniversary of 9/11, which we now call Patriots Day. While Kendrick didn’t initially choose uniquely American holidays for his first Drake diss releases (April 30, May 3 and May 4), he did choose Juneteenth for The Pop Out concert, and then he dropped the “Not Like Us” music video on Independence Day. People have been waiting on Kendrick’s new album – reportedly, he’s been working on it this year – but no one knows when he’ll decide to drop. If we’re going for uniquely American holidays from here on out, I would guess Indigenous Peoples Day/Columbus Day (October 14) or Thanksgiving (November 28). Anything to unsettle that Canadian man.
So, the new music. I guess the name of the song is “Watch the Party Die.” I would qualify this as a Drake diss – I caught some of the references – but Kendrick is also referencing Drake’s industry allies and the “rap gossip” industry. While I’m sure this can exist as a stand-alone Drake diss, it’s much deeper. Kendrick has been in burn-it-all-down mode all year, it seems. He not only wants Drake to GTFO, he wants to dismantle the industry around Drake.
It also feels significant that he dropped this as the VMAs were starting, right? Like, Kendrick overshadowed the VMAs and he’s still trending this morning. It also feels significant that he dropped right after he was named the Super Bowl Halftime headliner. His name had already been on everyone’s lips as Nicki Minaj and Birdman threw very loud tantrums about Lil’ Wayne not being chosen. Kind of feels like Kendrick wants to burn down that part of the industry too.

I loved the song, has been listening all morning. It sounds very old school to me. I didn’t get the vibe of “Drake diss”, more like “f* the industry” as he said during the beef too. It also felt like a confession session to me. Lots of anger and asking for guidance. As of now, it is untitled song, so fans gave it the name.
Since Monday I’ve been going through the KendrIck/Drake saga on YouTube & it has been a THROUGHLY enjoyable AND disturbing time from a gossip & artistic experience!🤣🤬
I loved it.
I love the song and I can’t wait to see what he does next.
Love this man. Superficially, his face and the tone of his voice. But more so his poet-warrior lyrics, integrity and vulnerability. New music made my day
Oct 14th is Canadian Thanksgiving!
Kendrick is on fire! I love it.
